  • Newly Sheared Timothée Chalamet Says Goodbye to His Cherubic Ringlets

    [ad_1]

For Timothée Chalamet, there are no half-measures, and that includes his haircuts. The 29-year-old Hollywood star stunned fans this week by showing off his newly shaved head during an evening outing at Yankee Stadium with girlfriend Kylie Jenner. The actor, known for his heartthrob-worthy curly mane, officially inaugurated a buzzcut—a hairstyle that speaks volumes.

“The buzzcut sported by Timothée Chalamet is a cut that immediately conveys strength, virility, independence and confidence,” Matteo Orlando, hairstylist at the Mastromauro salon in Milan, explains. “It’s not a hair look for everyone: you need character to wear it, but that’s precisely why it’s so magnetic.”

The advantage of radical removing so much hair, says Orlando, is that “it brings out the features, look and proportions of the face: it’s as if it strips the person of all artifice, letting the essence emerge.” Orlando also emphasizes the liberating component of the gesture. “Cutting the hair altogether—especially for someone like Chalamet, who is used to a rebellious, soft and rather long cut—can have a deep symbolic meaning. It is a way to reset and restart.”

A photo from last spring: Chalamet with soft brown curls.

    Mondadori Portfolio/Getty Images

And for those who would like to imitate the actor? “Remember that the buzzcut needs to be touched up every two weeks or so if you want to maintain the clean-shaven effect like Chalamet’s,” says Orlando. “But it’s also an opportunity to experiment: you can play with shades, gradations or longer textures on the top.” In any case, one thing is certain: the new Timothée teaches us that sometimes, the real headshot is having the courage to change.

  • Demi Moore looks so cool in her ‘Gucci bangs’

    [ad_1]

Demi Moore just proved the universal truth about a great set of bangs: they can do it all. When your fringe fits your face and your style just so, everything seems more elevated, even a humble white T-shirt and jeans ensemble.

Demi Moore relied on a fringe to help her craft her character in the new Gucci short film, The Tiger. The star plays a character named Barbara Gucci in the film, which was directed by Spike Jonze and Halina Reijn to introduce the Demna era at the Italian fashion house.

She turned to hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos to help bring Barbara Gucci to life, and that required bangs. The bangs were a collaborative event between the filmmakers, Demi, Dimitris, and Demna, Gucci’s creative director. “Demna had the idea of the ‘Gucci bangs,’” Dimitris shared. “And [of course] he always has the right vision.”

47 fringe hairstyles if you’re considering bangs

After the group agreed on the fringe, Dimitris got to work, crafting a set of brow-skimming curtain bangs that blended beautifully into Demi’s signature long dark hair.

The bangs looked effortlessly cool with Demi’s heading-to-set outfit of a T-shirt and denim, but they transformed into something completely different when she got into costume and character.

Demi Moore the person’s bangs were a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, but Barbara Gucci’s bangs were more polished, hitting right at the brow and brushed straight across her forehead with piecey separation, swapping the undone look for a “ladies who lunch” aesthetic—especially with the addition of a red Gucci jacket. One set of bangs, two completely different vibes.

In the film, Demi’s character Barbara, the “Head of Gucci International and Chairman of California,” is throwing a glamorous party for her family, but there’s a lot going on under the surface, and things start to get a little… messy.

Demi Moore’s bangs may have been a one-time thing for the movie—she’s back to the fringe-free Demi once more—but if she ever wants to bring them back, we’re 100 percent on board!

  • I’ve been struggling with hair loss – could a hair regrowth helmet be the solution?

    [ad_1]

What are the leading causes of hair thinning and hair loss?

Almost all men, and over half of all women, will experience hair loss in their lifetime – and the most common cause of this hair loss in all genders is “androgenetic alopecia”. Genetics can be at play, of course, and lifestyle factors like pregnancy and stress can lead to hair loss (telogen effluvium is a post-stress form of hair loss), but androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause.

What wavelength of red light is best for hair growth?

For red light therapy to encourage the stimulation of hair regrowth, the optimum wavelength range is considered to be between 620 and 670 nanometers (nm). CurrentBody’s device emits a spectrum of red light between 620-660nm which is, more specifically, the most effective within that range.

What colour LED light is best for hair growth?

What are the effects of red light therapy, and how does it work for hair thinning and hair loss? “LED (light-emitting diode) therapy, particularly in the form of low-level light therapy (LLLT), has been studied for its potential benefits in promoting hair growth,” begins Dr. Raj. “This therapy is thought to stimulate hair follicles, increase blood circulation in the scalp, and enhance cellular metabolism, which can lead to improved hair density and thickness.”

He explains that “studies have shown positive results for individuals with androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness) and other types of hair loss.”

From a trichologist POV, Kingsley explains that, “there is limited evidence into the guaranteed results of using LED, although there is no harm in trialing this option” as a part of your hair loss/growth journey if you so choose. She echoes the idea that devices using low-level laser therapy (LLLT) [also known as photobiomodulation] have more backing in terms of studies, but that any device is best used in tandem with other hair loss solutions, such as minoxidil “to gain the maximum benefit.” This way, your hair regrowth journey for thicker hair will not rely on just one thing – it will be part of a full treatment plan.

What kind of LED devices are best for scalp?

“There are many available on the market, from caps, helmets to combs,” says Dr Raj, who believes the best are “ergonomic, easy to use devices that can be used in smaller areas more consistently.”

As you’ll see, many brands offer solutions, ranging from caps you wear on your head, to small handheld devices you massage your scalp with. The latter can help to stimulate circulation at the scalp where hair grows, and can sometimes be used alongside scalp scrubs or oils, making them potentially doubly as effective.

But it’s really down to preference and budget in terms of which hair loss treatment is best for you. LED devices just offer a great non-invasive treatment option, no matter which you choose.

Are red light therapy devices for hair loss safe?

Experts I quizzed agreed that genuine, high quality devices (such as the ones we’ve reviewed) are safe – and you should not experience unwanted side effects. That said, you must always follow the specific product’s instructions.

“Some users may experience mild irritation, redness, or discomfort on the scalp; however, these symptoms are often temporary.” Dr Raj adds that consulting with your doctor or derm is essential if persistent reactions occur.

How often can you use red light therapy on hair?

This is very dependent on your particular device, but in general, “consistency is vital across all home use tech and none more so than with hair growth,” according to Newman, who adds that the CurrentBody Helmet, for example, should be used daily.

Newman explains that “regular usage is key to seeing results, and frequency typically depends on the device type and treatment goals. For example, many LED devices are designed for daily or every-other-day use for 10–20 minutes per session, though specific guidance will depend on the model.” He adds: “Consistent use is critical to achieving and maintaining the desired effects, whether for skin improvement or scalp treatments.”

Ferguson and Measures recommend that for their The Light Salon device, you should use it “three to five times a week.” They conclude: “used this often, the number of treatments amounts to 240 a year, making an LED an amazing investment.” Elsewhere, the FAQ 301 device is best used on alternate days.

How long does it take to see hair growth with red light therapy?

Unfortunately, there is no solid answer to this – due to varying factors. “Hair type, the level of hair loss and hair density will all contribute to how quickly you see results,” explains Newman. “Also, you would need to consider any other treatment therapies you are using alongside devices, such as oral minoxidil.”

“Results from red light therapy for hair growth can vary among individuals,” confirms Dr Raj, who adds: “Generally, users may begin to notice improvements within 12 to 24 weeks of consistent treatment. However, the full effects often take several months to manifest.” In other words, it’s crucial to be patient!

  • ‘Bambi brunette’ is autumn’s biggest hair colour trend for cosy girls

    [ad_1]

Summer is the time of year when we typically lighten up, but right now we’re seeing the hair colour pendulum swing in favour of ‘bambi brunette’ – the of-the-moment hue that hair colourist Mark Leeson describes as “a soft, warm, light-reflective take on brown hair.

Right now you’ll see different iterations of this expensive-looking brunette trend on celebrities including Hailey Bieber, Kaia Gerber and Zendaya. But how exactly does it differ from a regular brunette shade?

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Bambi brunette is essentially all about dimension. “It’s almost like you’ve had a summer of sun on your hair, but in a really understated, chic way,” Mark says. “Think gentle caramel and beige tones woven through a brunette base to give it a velvety, doe-eyed glow – hence the name. It feels more modern, glossy and multidimensional than a block brunette.”

This on-trend hue is also ideal for autumn when we naturally crave more warmth in our hair colour. “Bambi brunette brings softness and richness to the hair, but without tipping into overly dark or heavy territory,” says Mark. “It’s the perfect in-between – rich enough to feel seasonal, but with a lightness that keeps the face bright.”

What should you ask your hairstylist for?

The big thing to note is that placement is key. “Ask your colourist for a soft brunette base with lighter warm, caramel accents threaded throughout, particularly around the face and mid-lengths,” Mark advises. “These need to be fine and blended, so it feels seamless rather than stripy. The idea is to add dimension and glow without it looking like traditional highlights.”

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

How do you keep the shade looking vibrant?

Gloss and condition are everything with bambi brunette. “If the hair isn’t shiny, you lose the effect,” says Mark. Top-up glosses in salon will keep that light-reflective finish but, at home, he recommends using Goldwell’s Dualsenses Color Extra Rich 60 Sec Treatment to lock in luminosity. Also be sure to include a colour protective shampoo in your routine such as L’Oreal Elvive Colour Protect Colour Protecting Shampoo and add shine with a targeted serum or treatment.

  • The best silk pillowcases for a bedroom aesthetic worthy of its own Pinterest board

    [ad_1]

Sleeping on one of the best silk pillowcases is said to come with a whole host of beauty benefits, including anti-ageing properties for our skin and smoothing properties for our hair. In fact, silk helps to retain the skin’s natural moisture while we snooze, keeping it soft and supple, and in turn reduces fine lines, wrinkles and breakouts. Sure, they cost a bit more upfront than linen or cotton, but the payoff is priceless – deep, luxurious sleep.

So, if you’re yet to invest in this beauty editor’s must-have, you’re seriously missing a trick. But fear not, we’ve outlined the benefits of switching to silk, along with our editors’ tried-and-tested recommendations of the best silk pillowcases to invest in today, to help you achieve the best beauty sleep of your life.

Typically, silk pillowcases are sold either individually or in pairs, and can be used separately to complement our luxe bedding set-up. But for all-out opulence, look for complete pure silk bedding sets, sheets, and bedspreads. Throw in an electric diffuser, sleep mask, and a weighted blanket, and you’re in for a serious sleep upgrade.

    Silk pillowcases FAQs, answered:

    Meet the expert:

How we tested the best silk pillowcases:

With so many silk pillowcases on the market – differing in silk grade, momme weight, size, and care instructions – it can be tricky to know which one truly delivers on comfort, durability, and beauty benefits. To cut through the noise, we tested a wide range of silk pillowcases across weeks of use to find the ones genuinely worth the investment.

We focused on pillowcases made from high-quality mulberry silk, all with a minimum of 19 momme for optimal softness and longevity. Our testing spanned different closures (envelope vs. zipper), fit across standard and king pillows, and additional features like hypoallergenic properties or OEKO-TEX certifications. While most of our testing was done with standard-size pillowcases, we also included king, travel and square sizes to accommodate different needs.

Each silk pillowcase in this round up has been evaluated for its smoothness, breathability, ease of care, along with any notable beauty benefits we noticed after switching to silk. We also considered whether they held up well after repeated washing, before giving each one a score out of 10. Lean more about how we test.

    Why you can trust GLAMOUR

We’re picky when it comes to sleep. At GLAMOUR, we don’t just take brands at their word. We speak to the experts (think sleep scientists and facialists), dive into the nitty-gritty of skin health and hair care, and most importantly, we test the silk pillowcases ourselves.

Our editors know what it’s like to deal with insomnia, skin concerns, and allergies firsthand, so we take the job seriously. We sleep on these silk pillowcases for weeks – not just a night or two – and we focus on how our skin and hair feel, how gentle the fabric is, and whether we wake up refreshed or with irritation. If it doesn’t pass the test, it doesn’t make the cut. Simple as that.

Ahead, our full edit of tried and tested silk pillowcases to elevate your beauty sleep tenfold.

  • How to DIY the most popular Halloween hairstyles, according to pros

    [ad_1]

Spooky season is here, meaning it’s time to start planning your costume — and, of course, your matching Halloween hair. Not sure where to start? No need to worry. We tapped a handful of hairstyling experts for tips on how to DIY the most popular Halloween hairstyles, plus how to decide on a coordinating costume.

As a starting point, “pick someone who already has similar hair to yours, then do some styling tricks—like wear a clip-in bang,” celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawkins suggests. It’s the perfect year to try it: Glam goth is on trend so perhaps your Halloween style icon is Wednesday Addams with that hair. Or perhaps you fancy rekindling your love for the Cowboy Carter tour with a nod to the Texan blowout? The ’90s and Britpop beauty are calling, too, after Oasis fever struck so a tribute to Nicole Appleton’s chunky highlights could be equally as popular.

Feeling inspired? Keep scrolling for expert-backed advice on how to DIY this year’s most popular Halloween hairstyles, and get ready to screenshot.

  • Jennifer Aniston’s 52 best hairstyles over the years

    [ad_1]

Jennifer Aniston’s hair deserves an Instagram account of its own. With a few exceptions, no star has served up as much dreamy hair inspiration as the former Friends star.

Of course, no sentence about iconic hairstyles would be complete without mentioning The Rachel. You’d be hard-pressed to find any other hairstyle from the last 25 years that remains an enduring pop culture reference and a symbol of the 90s.

Those choppy layers, that gravity-defying bounce, those delicious caramel highlights, Jennifer Aniston’s cult 90s cut became era-defining statement, even picking up a loyal fan following that included Tyra Banks, Christina Aguilera and Meg Ryan (all of whom headed to their hairdressers for their own rendition of the style).

Countless styles later, though, Jennifer Aniston’s hair is still coveted, morphing from short and choppy to long and beautifully layered and more recently bob-length. The secret to its enduring appeal? It’s the definition of ‘pretty’ hair, finding that elusive sweet spot of looking sexy but soft, tousled but natural.

So take it from Jen – give your hair a break from over-styling, opt for looks that celebrate the strands you already have and embrace your natural texture.

Ahead, 52 of Jennifer Aniston’s best hair looks throughout the years to give you all the inspiration you need…

  • The boho bob is having a moment – here’s how to style it

    [ad_1]

Bobs aren’t going anywhere. As we approach the end of the summer, 2025’s favourite haircut is still front and centre. Say hello to the boho bob.

Perfect for those looking to refresh their short style, but are after something more effortless, the boho bob is a versatile cut with a more tousled and textured feel at the opposite end of the spectrum to sleek, blunt bobs.

If you’re looking for a new style as autumn approaches, here’s everything you need to know about the boho bob.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

    What is the boho bob?

“Think of the boho bob as a softer, freer version of the traditional bob,” Melissa Timperley, founder of Melissa Salons, tells GLAMOUR. “The beauty of this style is that it’s long enough to tie back, but short enough to feel fresh and modern. It strikes the perfect balance between structure and effortlessness – ideal for those who want a low-maintenance cut that still makes a statement.”

You’ll have already spotted the style on everyone from Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid to Lily Collins and Selena Gomez. But don’t worry, it’s not too late to join them as the style works just as well for autumn and it does for summer.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Who does the boho bob work best for?

The best part about the boho bob is that it works for (almost) everyone. Unlike more blunt bobs – which can accentuate longer or more square face shapes – the versatile boho bob can be tailored to hide or highlight your face shape.”Where the cut ends is where the eye is drawn,” says Melissa. “If you’re not keen on highlighting your chin, avoid a chin-length bob and opt for a slightly longer version to draw the eye downward.” While anyone can try out the style, Melissa says that rounder or fuller faces benefit the most, by “adding movement and elongation”.

If you’re looking to take the plunge, Gem Schwartz, founder of Taylor Rose Hair, suggests bringing your favourite reference images to help guide your stylist. “Ask for a bob that sits between the chin and shoulders with floaty layers and soft face-framing movement,” she advises. “If you want extra fullness, speak to your stylist about adding a few rows of micro ring or keratin extensions or even tape-in hair extensions just around the baseline or mid sections. It’s a subtle enhancement that can transform the cut without making it look like you’re wearing extensions at all.”

  • Millie Bobby Brown’s blonde ‘Lob’ is the cool-girl cut you’ll be seeing everywhere this autumn

    [ad_1]

Millie Bobby Brown has been serving non-stop beauty inspo lately. From experimenting with bold hair colours to switching up her go-to styles, the British actress keeps us on our toes.

Now, in a new Instagram video where she is sat on the sofa wearing a relaxed gym set, she’s unveiled her latest transformation. The beauty entrepreneur swapped her brunette waves for a sleek, collarbone-grazing chop in a soft blonde hue. It’s a chic, autumn-ready haircut that’s already taking over salons. Enter: the lob.

The British actress showed off her brand new look for autumn

We know what you’re thinking – what exactly is a lob? The lob-otherwise known as the “long bob”- has long been heralded as one of the most universally flattering cuts, thanks to its effortless versatility.

Sitting somewhere between the chin and the shoulders, it strikes the perfect balance between short and long, giving you enough length to style but is also short enough to feel like a bold statement.

The beauty founder’s new haircut is the perfect look for the transitional weather

The lob has also clearly become the cut to the stars; from Selena Gomez’s curved lob to Jenna Ortega’s shaggy lob, this cut has definitely got the A-list seal of approval.

Why is the lob a popular autumn 2025 hair style?

The appeal of the lob is in its adaptability. Whether styled poker-straight, tousled with beachy waves, or tucked behind one ear for that model-off-duty vibe, the cut works with all hair textures and face shapes. The length naturally frames the face, softening features without the commitment of a dramatic short bob.

The Stranger Things actresses fresh blonde shade adds another layer of cool-girl energy to the look. Creamy and effortless, it’s a reminder that autumn hair doesn’t have to mean going darker – bright, luminous blondes are so in for every season.

There are also three ways you can style this cool-girl cut:

    1. Glossy & sleek: Use a straightener to create a smooth finish, adding shine spray for a glass-hair effect.
    2. Soft waves: Wrap random sections around a tong, then brush through for classic Sam McKnight undone look.
    3. The tuck: Part hair down the middle and tuck behind the ears for an instant chic vibe.

Millie Bobby Brown has officially entered her lob era, and it’s everything.

  • How to reduce shedding and manage pet hair at home | Animal Wellness Magazine

    [ad_1]

Find out why dogs and cats shed and check out practical tips to reduce shedding and keep your home free of pet hair.

When you share your home with a dog or cat, shedding often becomes an issue. Pet hair can quickly accumulate on your floors and furnishings. It may be frustrating, but fortunately, you can minimize shedding and keep your home as hair-free as possible. Here’s why dogs and cats shed, and how to reduce shedding and manage pet hair at home.

    Why dogs and cats shed

Dogs and cats shed hair year-round, although it’s more prevalent during the spring and sometimes the fall. Shedding is a natural process: old hair falls out to allow room for new growth.

Flag it: Some breeds with longer and/or thicker coats will shed more than others.

However, excessive or sudden shedding may indicate a problem. It could signal nutritional deficiencies or medical issues such as hypothyroidism or diabetes.

Overgrooming, irritation, and rashes are common skin problems that contribute to hair loss. One of the most common causes of excessive shedding is allergies, although parasites such as ringworm, ticks, and fleas can cause abnormal shedding as well.

Steps to minimize shedding and pet hair

Consult your vet if your dog or cat’s shedding seems abnormal or starts suddenly. There may be an underlying health issue that needs treatment. Once you know why he’s shedding, the following prevention and management steps can help minimize the issue and keep your home as clean as possible (see sidebar on page xx).

Regular grooming helps prevent and manage shedding effectively. Grooming on a weekly or even daily basis removes dead hair before it is dispersed throughout your home.

Even with professional grooming, you should brush your pet several times a week. Tailor the frequency to his hair type and shedding level. Choose grooming tools that target loose hair and the undercoat. This removes as much hair as possible, reducing both shedding and matting.

Flag it: One of the best grooming tools is a de-shedding comb, specifically designed to remove loose hair from your animal’s coat.

You may need to test out several different types of grooming tools before you find something that works for your dog or cat’s coat. Be sure to choose something that won’t scratch his skin and make the grooming experience unpleasant for him.

Bathing may seem a good way to manage shedding, but too-frequent baths can dry out your pet’s skin and worsen the problem. This is especially true if you use commercial shampoos that contain detergents and other chemicals.

Use pet wet wipes as an alternative to frequent bathing. They help keep your animal cleaner and reduce odor. Just be sure to choose a product made from natural ingredients.

    • Feed him a nutritious quality diet

A healthy, high-quality diet is another essential step to reduce shedding. Low-end commercial foods often contain ingredients that trigger allergies and worsen shedding or skin problems. These ingredients include wheat, soy, corn, and artificial preservatives, flavors, and colors.

Flag it: Some animals may develop allergies to certain proteins such as beef and chicken, commonly found in many pet foods. Giving your dog or cat a diet made from alternative proteins such as duck, bison or rabbit, may help.

Be sure to choose a premium diet made from whole-food ingredients, with no fillers or additives.

    • Visit the vet for checkups

Take your dog or cat to a holistic or integrative vet annually to check for medical concerns. If shedding is a problem, have your vet check your animal’s skin and coat for any issues. They can identify allergies, parasites, or other problems contributing to excessive hair loss.

If your dog or cat has any health concerns that might exacerbate shedding, follow the treatment plan recommended by your vet, and follow up with them when required.

Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and other biting pests sometimes trigger or worsen skin problems in dogs and cats. Redness, itching, hot spots, and other irritations lead to scratching and increased shedding.

Choose natural flea and tick repellents over chemical-based products to protect your dog or cat from pests. Essential oil sprays, such as lavender or lemongrass, repel pests from your animal. Be sure to buy only the highest quality therapeutic grade oils and be cautious using them around cats.

Unless you have a hairless breed, some shedding is inevitable. This is just a reality for dog and cat parents. But taking steps to reduce shedding and manage pet hair at home will make it much less of an issue.

Way to reduce pet hair in your home

    • Vacuum your home daily or every other day. Vacuuming is better than sweeping since it captures pet hair more effectively. Use microfiber cleaning tools on hard floors to prevent spreading hair around the house or into the air.
    • Upholstered furniture is a hotspot for pet hair. Slipcovers are a perfect solution. You can easily remove and wash them as needed to eliminate pet odors and stains as well as hair. Run cushion covers, clothing and blankets through the dryer before washing them. This helps loosen pet hair.
    • Household tools for removing lint from clothing and upholstery also work well with pet hair. Look for sticky rollers and lint removal brushes, widely available in stores or online.
    • Stick to fabrics that don’t attract as much pet hair as more textured materials or those prone to static cling, such as wool or polyester. Linen, cotton, and denim are good choices.

  • Faux Locs Have Become the Secret Weapon in My Curly Hair Routine

    [ad_1]

Growing up, my relationship with my hair was anything but simple. I was raised in a Dominican household where curly hair wasn’t seen as beautiful; it was seen as something to fix, smooth out, and straighten. As a result, my family ensured that I visited the Dominican salon for regular relaxers and blowouts. It wasn’t until 2016 that I truly began to embrace my natural texture. However, one of the biggest misconceptions about going natural is that caring for curly hair becomes easier once you stop straightening or using relaxers. Trust me, it doesn’t.

I have 3C-type hair, which means my curls are tightly coiled and can be a little testy at times. There are days when my curls are absolutely perfect, and I feel like the most confident woman in the room. But let me be real, those times don’t last very long. On a good week, I get maybe three days where my curls are in their prime. The rest of the time, it’s all about moisture, styling, and making sure my hair stays protected. In other words, caring for curls can be a full-time job. It’s not something you can do half-heartedly. It’s not for the weak, which is why faux locs have become a major game-changer for me.

Faux locs entered my life as a way to save time and protect my natural curls. I needed a break from the constant maintenance of my curls, but I still wanted a look that was stylish and easy to manage. Faux locs gave me that. I can choose the length, style, and color to fit my vibe for the day. Plus, they’re a lot easier to maintain than chemically straightened hair. I don’t have to worry about humidity or rainy days interfering with my hair. I can wake up and know that my hair will stay intact for at least three weeks. I can say goodbye to frizz and embrace worry-free styling every day.

And as someone with a busy schedule, faux locs have become a lifesaver for me. Whether I’m heading to an audition, a comedy show, or a big event, I can rely on my locs to look great, no matter what. They give me confidence in a way that my curls sometimes don’t, simply because I know they’ll stay on point. Plus, faux locs are super versatile. I can try different looks without committing to something permanent.

Now, the cost of faux locs can be a little steep — I’m not going to lie. In California, they can run you around $600, while in New York, you might get a good set for around $300. But here’s the thing: I’ve learned how to do them myself, which saves me a ton of money. It takes me about six hours to do them properly — four hours if I’m feeling lazy and don’t care about how the back looks. But when I’m done, I feel like I’ve accomplished something major. It’s one less thing I have to worry about for a few weeks.

Sometimes, I think about making faux locs a permanent part of my style. They’re just so easy and low-maintenance. But then I think about my curls, and I can’t imagine giving them up. I’ve spent so many years trying to embrace them, and now I’m finally at a place where I love them. I’ve come to realize that my curls are actually an integral part of my identity, and they are not something I need to change. So, for now, I enjoy the best of both worlds: curly hair for those days I want to feel unstoppable, and faux locs when I need a break.

Ultimately, what I’ve learned is that hair is an expression of who you are. Whether curly, straight, loc’ed, or anything in between, it’s a choice, and for me, that choice is about feeling empowered and confident in whatever style I choose. And let’s be real, as a Dominican woman in the entertainment industry, having the freedom to express myself through my hair is a power I’ll never take for granted.

Sasha Merci is a first-generation Dominican American actor, comedian, and viral digital creator. She showcases over a decade of diverse experience in entertainment with roles in films like “Righteous Thieves” and “De Lo Mio,” along with collaborations with renowned brands such as Target and Bumble. She shares her Bronx roots and passion for Latine culture by being vocal about mental health and navigating comedy.
