  • Will Cannabis Be At The California Super Bowl

    [ad_1]

Will cannabis be at the California Super Bowl as gummies quietly rival beer at America’s biggest game

As the state prepares to host, a familiar question is quietly circulating alongside conversations about commercials, halftime performers, and watch parties: will cannabis be at the California Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in America?

California has long been a pioneer in cannabis legalization and normalization. From the passage of medical marijuana laws in the 1990s to full adult-use legalization in 2016, the state helped transform cannabis from a taboo substance into a regulated, mainstream consumer product. Today, legal dispensaries operate across California, cannabis brands advertise on billboards and podcasts, and infused products are as familiar to many adults as craft beer or fine wine.

RELATED: Sara Carter Bailey Approved For New Drug Czar

Yet the Super Bowl remains a complicated space for cannabis. The game itself is governed by the non-profit NFL and broadcast standards still prohibit cannabis advertising and on-site consumption, even in fully legal states. Inside the stadium, cannabis will not be sold, promoted, or consumed legally, despite California law allowing adult use elsewhere.  Some guests might bring in edibles, but even tobacco vapes are banned. Alcohol, however, will once again dominate. Beer sponsorships, liquor ads, and branded cocktails are a staple of Super Bowl culture, both in the stands and in living rooms across the country.

At home, the contrast is even sharper. Super Bowl Sunday has become one of the biggest alcohol consumption days of the year in the United States. Viewers are encouraged to drink early, drink often, and associate the game with beer runs and party coolers. In California, however, a growing number of adults are choosing cannabis as an alternative. This shift is subtle, but real, particularly among consumers looking to avoid hangovers, reduce calories, or simply enjoy a different kind of social experience.

If cannabis does make an appearance connected to the Super Bowl, gummies are the most likely form. Gummies are by far the most popular edible category in legal markets, favored for their discretion, precise dosing, and lack of smoke or smell. Unlike flower or vapes, gummies can be consumed quietly at home without disrupting guests or drawing attention. For many California viewers, a low-dose gummy has become the equivalent of a beer or glass of wine during the game.

    RELATED: Greenland And Cannabis

Brands know this, even if they cannot advertise directly. In the days leading up to the Super Bowl, dispensaries often see increased sales, with consumers planning their game-day experiences just as carefully as their snack menus. While cannabis won’t appear in commercials or on the field, it may still be part of Super Bowl Sunday rituals across California.

So will cannabis be at the California Super Bowl? Not officially, and not visibly. But in living rooms, backyard watch parties, and quiet moments between plays, cannabis, especially gummies, is likely to be part of how many Californians experience the biggest game of the year.

  • Traveling With Cannabis And CBD

    [ad_1]

Holiday guide to traveling with cannabis and CBD, microdosing gummies, easing family anxiety, navigating airports smarter.

The holidays are prime travel season — packed airports, crowded train stations and frayed nerves as families reunite. With the stress, what about traveling with cannabis and CBD. After all, they serve alcohol on the plane. For many Americans who use cannabis or CBD medically or recreationally, thoughtful, low-dose strategies — especially microdosing and small edible formats like gummies — can help manage travel stress, ease social anxiety at family gatherings and make transit days calmer. But travel with cannabis remains a patchwork of state and federal rules, and smart planning is essential.

RELATED: How Cannabis Can Help A Family Thanksgiving

Federal law still classifies marijuana as illegal, which means when you pass through a federal checkpoint (airports in particular), you’re technically subject to federal rules. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says officers do not search for marijuana — their primary mission is security — but if illegal substances are discovered during screening, TSA has the option to refer the matter to local law enforcement, although in most states where it is legal is this enforced. Outcomes vary by airport and the laws of the state where you land. International travel with cannabis is always illegal.

Public opinion has shifted dramatically: large recent polls find a vast majority of Americans support legalizing marijuana for medical or recreational uses. That cultural shift is one reason airports and some local enforcement have de-prioritized routine marijuana enforcement in legal states.

Microdosing — taking very small amounts of THC or low-dose CBD repeatedly to get mild calming effects without intoxication — has become a popular strategy for social anxiety, focused relaxation and travel stress. Early research and user surveys suggest many people find microdosing helpful for reducing situational anxiety (like holiday travel), though clinical evidence is still evolving and results vary by individual. CBD-only microdosing is another option for people who want relaxation without THC’s psychoactive effects; products like low-dose tinctures or single-count gummies make dosing predictable and portable. Medical sources urge caution: the evidence is mixed and more study is needed, so start low, go slow, and test at home before trying a dose on travel day.

Gummies and other edibles are popular for travel because they’re discreet and easy to dose. If you carry edibles:

    • Keep products in original, labeled packaging if possible (helps show legal purchase in some states).
    • Know dose per gummy and start with a microdose (often 2.5–5 mg THC) if you’re aiming for calm, not intoxication.
    • Consider CBD-only products for daytime travel or when you must be fully alert.

There’s confusion about K9 units: some airport and federal canine teams are trained to detect narcotics, while others (and many TSA-owned dogs) focus primarily on explosives detection. As legalization has spread, some drug-detection programs have shifted their training priorities; nevertheless, law enforcement canine teams (and Customs/Border Protection narcotics dogs) can and do detect narcotics, including cannabis when trained for it. In short: don’t rely on any loophole — a canine alert or a discovered edible can still trigger police involvement.

RELATED: 8 Wacky Things To Know About Thanksgiving

The takeaway: many travelers find cannabis or CBD (especially microdosing and measured gummies) a genuinely helpful tool for holiday travel and family stress — but the legal landscape is uneven, and federal rules still govern many checkpoints. With smart dosing, careful packaging and an awareness of state vs. federal rules, you can use cannabis or CBD to smooth holiday journeys while minimizing legal risk.

  • What To Know About Hiking With Marijuana

What To Know About Hiking With Marijuana

    [ad_1]

Hiking is the most popular summer sport, especially when the temperatures are under 100.  It is an easy entry activity just needing good shoes and the right location and off you go.  Emerging yourself in nature and seeing waterfalls, meadows, vistas and scenic views are all the big payoff. It can be even better when considering the option of adding in some of cannabis.  Here is what to know about hiking with marijuana.

Hiking while drinking alcohol is never a good idea. Alcohol can impair balance, significantly contributes to dehydration, and impair judgement. While you don’t want to get totally stoned while hiking, a little focused consumption or microdosing can enhance nature’s wonders.

RELATED: The Best Habits To Stay Energized

While there are many approaches to get high on a hike, vapes and gummies tend to be the easiest.  Find a strain which gives you energy and focus and manage the high so you can enjoy the hike.  It will unlock parts of your brain and the make the journey better.

    Pack all the necessary tools

As you head out, make sure to pack all your necessary items in discreet and convenient places. If you’re taking a vape or pipe, pack one that you wouldn’t mind losing or breaking, since accidents (tripping, falling, etc.) are common while hiking. If you’re planning on smoking, make sure you’ve prepared it ahead of time and stored it somewhere that protects it and keeps the smell contained.

    Be discreet

No matter the state where you live, cannabis is still considered a Schedule I drug, meaning that if you’re caught with it in a national park, you’re still breaking the law. Also, not everyone enjoys the smell of weed so be considerate of others and smoke in an area that’s secluded and private.

    Pack water and snacks

Water is a basic necessity when hiking, but plan to add a bit more if you’re considering bringing weed. Remember to pack your favorite snacks in case you get hit with the munchies and still want to be able to enjoy your hike.

    Never travel alone

No matter how experienced you are with marijuana, it’s important to be with someone if you’re planning on consuming somewhere other than your home; you don’t want to get too stoned and then be unable to make your way back home. And you never know if something can go wrong.

RELATED: Your Genes Have A Surprising Impact On How Marijuana Affects You

If you’re an inexperienced hiker or if you’re trying out a new trail, being with a companion is even more important. It’s also more fun to converse with someone, high or not, while on the trail.

    Don’t litter

After you’re done consuming, snacking and hiking, make sure to take the trash with you and leave the space a little better than you found it.

Marijuana Can Bond Grandparents To Family

    [ad_1]

Like wine with dinner or a beer in the backyard, marijuana is becoming very common.

With almost 60% of adults drinking alcohol, it has been a staple of family events. Relatives including grandparents, cousins, adult grandkids and more have sat at a table and toasted with beer, wine or booze….and now cannabis may be in the mix.  As legalization has grown, cannabis is being embraced by more people and is popping at all sorts of family gatherings. And, it seems, marijuana can bond grandparents to family.

RELATED: The Most Popular Marijuana Flavors

In a third party survey sponsored by Sanctuary Wellness, some interesting data has given hope about intergenerational bonding. There are all sorts of concerns about boomers and Gen Z not relating, but marijuana like music is showing a positive trend. Nearly one in three have tried cannabis, far less than alcohol, but still a significant number.  In the survey, Millennials use the most followed closely by Gen X then Gen Z and finally Baby Boomers. And while a whopping 86% of Gen Z and Millennials support the legaization of weed…a full 71% of Baby Boomers do also.

Gen Z is slowly turning away from alcohol and feel they have way more stress than their grandparents.  Due to the embrace from the medical community, Boomers are starting to see cannabis as aid in dealing with chronic pain and sleep issues. The plant can be very effective without as many harsh side effects.

Once interesting factor in the survey is the use of gummies. Microdosing has become huge and Gen Z sees it as a way to manage anxiety.  With gummies, you see 76% use of Baby Boomers and 72% with Gen Z….far higher than Millennials and Gen X.

For many Europeans, alcohol is a part of their culture and viewed as a social activity. In Italy for example, children are eased into drinking with a bit of wine at dinner. They’re taught from an early age that alcohol is something to drink casually and in moderation. Alcohol abuse is less coming in Italy and France due to the generation training.  Maybe marijuana, which has clear medical benefits, could be another thing which generations share to make for a better life.

  • The Best Tips For Surviving A Plane Middle Seat

The Best Tips For Surviving A Plane Middle Seat

    [ad_1]

Winter or summer – flying can be tough. Their is a new trend called rawdogging, but there are better ways to make flying cough, or gulp, in the middle seat better…

Travel is remaining strong and the airlines are packing in more and more people to the same planes. The average legrooms decreased from a comfortable 35 inches to a cramped 28 inches, often found on low-cost carriers. While the actual seat width has also shrunk by as much as four inches over the past 30 years, leaving many seats with a narrow 16-inch width. So long flights in the middle seat can be a challenge, but the good thing is the right prep and mind set can make it more tolerable.

RELATED: How To Cancel A Flight Without Paying A Cancellation Fee

There is a new trend among some males called rawdogging. It takes the form of a monk-like asceticism while in the air, denying any entertainment, reading, food and just focusing on the space ahead. Apparently you can stare at the flight tracker as the only distraction. While meditation can make the trip a more enlightened experience, this sounds somewhat awful…especially for flights over 4 hours. Instead, here are the best tips surviving a plane middle seat.

Store your bag in the overhead bin

In order to stretch your legs and have some more space, take out all the items you need – headphones, water, books, tablets – and store your bag in the overhead bin. Just because flight attendants say there’s not enough space in the plane doesn’t mean that you should be in pain.

Have headphones and entertainment in hand

Having a middle seat means you are between two people, increasing the odds of having a talkative neighbor. Have a pair of efficient headphones in order to have an easy way out to talkative neighbors or just escape mental. Ways to lose your way while reading or getting lost in a movie another way.  Load something you have really loved or want to enjoy so you can savor it even in tight quarters. This could be your change to binge watch something on your list.

RELATED: Airline Passengers Keep Stealing Luxe Bedding From First Class

    Use the restroom before boarding

Before the whole plane boarding mayhem begins, make some time to visit the bathroom. Being in the middle seat means that you’ll likely be awoken by your window neighbor when they’re on their way to the restroom and you’ll have a hard time going there yourself if you’re shy about waking the person that’s on the aisle seat.

    gummies
Photo by Kindel Media from Pexels

Gummies – either CBD or marijuana

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Chicago report low levels tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the main psychoactive compound in marijuana, does reduce stress. A discreet gummy can make the trip more relaxing and you might enjoy your entertainment of choice better. If you want the benefits without the high, consider a CBD gummy.  Just make sure you plan for the timing as most gummies take longer to absorb into the system.

    Pay extra and avoid it

If you still find the middle seat too uncomfortable, pay extra for an aisle or a window seat and avoid all of this drama. While getting a seat upgrade generally comes with a significant bump in ticket price, you’ll at least have the space you want for sleeping and stretching.

What Is The Dosage For A Marijuana Light Chill

    [ad_1]

Sometimes you just need a little push to relax, but don’t want to go farther…how much should you take for a little chill to take the edge off.

Friday are the second most favorite day of the week, only behind Saturday. Mondays are the worst with the focus on heading back the 5 day grind. But sometimes the pressure or mindset of work is hard to leave behind. Rather than getting blotto’d on booze or heavily stoned…what can you take to just unwind and let your muscle relax?  What is the dosage for a marijuana light chill, but lets you do all the things you want to in a weekend?

RELATED: 5 Morning Activities To Help You Feel Happier

Marijuana is available to over 50+% of the population and over 85% of the country believes it should be legal in some form. A healthier option than alcohol, it is gaining traction and cutting into beer sales. One reason is there is more of a chance of control over the time and potency of the high. Give you more options on how to use your time.

Like a glass of wine, marijuana in moderation can help with a little bit of a mood reset.  Another benefit of a light dose it can put your brain in a more receptive pace. When high, the brain slows down the memory search function allowing you to experience food, music, comedy and more…raising the intensity of the experience.

To take the edge off, start with a 2.5-5 mg and judge if this hits the spot.  Vapes and gummies are great ways to manage dosage and keep just a certain level. With vaping, you simply take a hit when to keep you in the same spot, as it fades, you can make a decision. With gummies, you will need to estimate timing as it is absorbed differently in the body and can take from 30-60 minutes to hit.

Photo by Mister M via Unsplash

The airline and train industry are still ruled by the federal government and traveling with cannabis is still prohibited.  It is NOT SMART to travel with marijuana to another country.  For in country, TSA officers do not search for marijuana but are required to report any potentially illegal item they find during the security screening process to local law enforcement. States where it is illegal can make it difficult for you. Gummies can be dump into a bag with other candies and pass unnoticed.

Most major rental car companies also have a non marijuana use policy. They require customers to sign a contract agreeing to not smoke or vape in a loaner car or a $150 to $250 cleaning fee. This charge will automatically hit your credit card.

Hotels are also not a fan of smelly marijuana. As a private property owner, they can ban the use and, again, charge an extra cleaning fee. It seems the average cost of from hotels are $500 for ridding the room of the smell.

Cannabis can provide a temporary relief as it is a proven help against anxiety. To use this tool, there are a few things to know and also not to be over reliant on it as a solution.

Part of the way marijuana chills you out with the active cannabinoid THC. It acts through cannabinoid receptors which activates the brain’s reward system. These includes regions that govern the response to healthy pleasurable behaviors.  It also adjusts perception of time, which is what makes movies and music sound better as it allows you to stop and really absorb the moment.

The younger generation has taken advantage of consumption methods to have marijuana on-the-go.  Vaping is the second, and trends show soon to be first, most popular method of use.  Like gummies (the third most popular way to consume), it is easy, discreet and portable for those with an active lifestyle. What Can Consumers Expect From Marijuana Rescheduling

    [ad_1]

Most of the industry has been thrilled with the progress of rescheduling.  But for the 40+ million who consume – what does it mean in real world terms?

The federal government took a big step toward rescheduling marijuana from a Schedule 1, which is a dangerous drug with zero medical benefits, to to Schedule III such as ketamine, Tylenol with codeine, and anabolic steroids.  The industry is excited at the progress, the benefits will include the ability to have simple tax write off like any other normal mom and pop business.  But what can consumers expect from marijuana rescheduling.

RELATED: Beer Sales Flatten Thanks To Marijuana

Two longer term benefits. With a Schedule III classification, medical researchers may find it easier to obtain the necessary approvals and funding for studies.  With existing work, scientist have just began uncovering how the plant can help the body.  By better understanding of the compound’s potential, better treatments will be available for a variety of health issue. The pharmaceutical industry, the major leader in research, stands to gain from increased research opportunities.

It also will move the medical industry closer into viewing cannabis as a legal, useful tool in treating patients. This could play a part in weaning physicians from using opioids for pain and using something developed from cannabis which is much less addictive.

Another benefit is it allows legal businesses a bit more breathing room and some expansion, even in the short term. The hope is to push out the grey players who are causing issues. One which is the flow of premade products from maker to seller to consumer, currently – some cut corners and products are not quite the same as on traditional store shelves. Rescheduling will allow more oversight and safer products.

“Legalization represents a pivotal shift towards a safer, more accessible, and consumer-friendly cannabis market,” said, Bob Groesbeck, Co-CEO Planet 13. “Legalization would not only have significant economic implications but would also greatly benefit cannabis consumers. “With legal status ensuring that products undergo rigorous testing for safety and quality, consumers can confidently access products that meet stringent standards.

RELATED: Cannabis Industry Employs The Same As These Companies

One benefit not seen in the near horizon is a lowering of prices. As a growing industry, most mom and pop need the extra cash to stabilize and grow. So while sales may happen, the benefit for the consumer is a healthy shop/product maker which will be around longer.

“Cannabis policy is a burning question with a small minority of the public but data show that in congressional campaigns, the vast majority (nearly 90% of candidates) never mention cannabis policy in public. That suggests that most voters are focused on different issues. Despite that, the current cannabis rescheduling petition before the federal government, and initiated by President Biden, is moving at lightning speed compared to every other cannabis rescheduling petition before it.” shared John Hudak,  Director, Maine Office of Cannabis Policy.

The sativa strain tends to energize and uplift and can place you into a state of timelessness, effortlessness, euphoria, and single-minded focus. Microdosing cannabis can help boost creativity, mood and productivity.  Consider about 2.5 mg to start – which is about half a gummy or a puff or two from a vape.

    Household Chores

From laundry and folding clothes to cleaning the fridge, these are must do activities to facilitate day to day life.  Sometimes mindless, it is easy to slip into boredom trying to match an endless supply of socks or cleaning the oven.  A little sativa can add not only energy but a bit of creativity in these tasks.  You might be startled by how vacuuming can become fun!

Additionally, cannabis has been proven to have properties that not only aid in the recovery from working out, but also in the actual performance of certain activities. Studies have shown the plant’s ability to decrease anxiety and act as a bronchodilator increasing airflow to the lungs. Moreover, as one study found, “cannabinoids are potent anti-inflammatory agents.”

  • Marijuana Dosing For The First Half Of The Week

Marijuana Dosing For The First Half Of The Week

    [ad_1]

It was common and part of the American myth, guys would come home after work and pop a beer.  Or stop by their “local” for a quick one before heading to the house. But the world has changed and more people are concerned about weight, calories and health impacts. A survey by the American Heart Association found millennials, more than previous generations, are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors, such as regular exercise and maintaining a healthy diet. In addition, Gen Z seems to be the first generation to slowly move away from alcohol, and a portion are moving to marijuana.

RELATED:  Are You Really Ready To Try THC-P

Thanks to anecdotal and hard data, there is now a slow trend where after work instead of a grabbing a beer, people are taking a puff or popping a gummy.  Same relaxation, but with less side effects. But what should be the marijuana dosing for the first half of the week? It is important you don’t rely on anything every day to relax.  To do so could be a sign of addiction. But if you are want a quick, after work cool down.  Here are some suggestions.

Consider vaping, gummies or tinctures. These vehicles are easy to consume and you don’t have to commit to a big dosage.   A couple of hits on the vape while unwinding should be enough to release the tension while doing Monday stuff. The same line goes with gummies and tinctures.

RELATED: The Most Popular Marijuana Flavors

A suggested dosage of marijuana for a low key chill is between 5-7.5 milligrams (mg).  A study revealed participants who received 7.5 mg. of THC reported less stress after the psychosocial test than those given a placebo, and stress levels dissipated faster after the test.  This would equal a couple of dose on a vape or about 1.5 gummies.  (with gummies having a bout 5 mg of THC).

Alcohol sales, a predictor of use, shows the first half of have low sale but by Thursday it is has jumped 2.5X. Marijuana should follow in the same footprint.

  • Maybe The New James Bond Should Update With Marijuana

Maybe The New James Bond Should Update With Marijuana

    [ad_1]

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is to be the new James Bond…maybe he should update the image and add in some cannabis.

The buzz is Aaron Taylor-Johnson may be set to be the new James Bond. A British tabloid claims Eon Productions offered the iconic role to the actor after Daniel Craig stepped down.  What does it mean for the next round of movies? Maybe the new James Bond should update with marijuana.  There is a case of bold different direction, The Spy Who Loved Me used the title of one of Fleming’s novels, but was an original screenplay with nothing to do with the book plot. And both Sean Connery and Roger Moore flirted with the plant when young.

RELATED: Beer Sales Flatten Thanks To Marijuana

When Casino Royale was published in 1953, Bond burst on the scene.  When he hit the big screen via Eon Production in 1962 with Dr. Noan icon was born.  The name, the look, the cars, the martini all became part of the cultural language. While the 60s were the start of the cultural revolution, it hadn’t hit the movies.  And Eon was all about mass marketing and weed was not where it was at. Ian Fleming, Bond’s creator was an old school spy. He took his adventures and knowledge, added in a healthy dose of creativity and produced a series which have captured the public’s fancy.  Himself a fan of liquor and cigarettes, his writing reflects the times.

But since the new Bond will not appear at least until 2025, things have changed. The youngest fans in Gen Z have started drifting away from alcohol and embraced legal cannabis.  Also, over 85% of the population believe there should be some form of legal cannabis. A different landscape could add some updated nuance.

While it might be hard to switch out the martini for a vape or pre-roll, an ointment or gummy could be used to help with the frequent aches, pains and injuries the hero endures as he saves the world. The average deaths per movie is 16 people which usually involved some type of scuffle.  Popping a gummy to power through could be positive…or Q can give him some medical marijuana for injuries.

RELATED: Celebrate With These Simple Classic Cocktails

While Bond is known for charging hard, defeating the villains and winning the ladies.  It must take a tool.  Cannabis and even CBD can help him sleep and is proven to help with PTSD…which even the most ardent hero must have some regrets.

Let’s see what Eon does in the role and in the update.

  • Kris Mayes coming for your smoke shop vapes, gas station gummies

Kris Mayes coming for your smoke shop vapes, gas station gummies

    [ad_1]

Arizona law bars the sale of “diet weed” products like delta-8 THC in smoke shops and convenience stores, Attorney General Kris Mayes said.

But proponents of the hemp industry say the effect of a formal legal opinion that Mayes issued Monday goes far beyond the hemp-based intoxicants and will likely also sweep up the entirety of the CBD marketplace in Arizona, barring sales of products used to improve sleep and reduce body aches and pains.

And it may prompt litigation aimed at having the courts determine exactly how Arizona’s hemp and marijuana laws ought to be enforced.

Mayes, a Democrat, concluded in her opinion that, while federal law may allow for intoxicating substances to be made from hemp derivatives, Arizona law expressly regulates how such products are sold.

And that means they must be regulated by the Arizona Department of Health Services and only sold in dispensaries that are licensed to sell medical and recreational cannabis products.

Delta-8 is an intoxicating cannabinoid with a chemical profile and psychoactive effect materially similar to that of marijuana, but that is synthesized from the hemp plant. It is a chemical analog of delta-9, the primary psychoactive element that occurs naturally in marijuana.

Products made with delta-8 THC, including vape cartridges and gummies, are currently on sale in smoke shops across Arizona.

They have largely existed in a legal gray area in Arizona, with the hemp industry relying on congressional action in 2018, when that year’s annual Farm Bill expanded the definition of hemp to include “all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, (and) isomers” of the hemp plant. That paved the way for making delta-8, which is chemically synthesized from the naturally occurring cannabidiol into an intoxicating concentration.

Arizona voters have approved both medical and recreational marijuana in the state, but the industries are highly regulated, and licenses to operate are expensive. Arizona lawmakers this year are considering legislation backed by the hemp industry that would add more regulations to the sales of delta-8 THC products.

After the 2018 Farm Bill, production and sales of delta-8 THC products proliferated in Arizona, as they were seen as outside the scope of the state’s cannabis laws.

But Mayes said that simply isn’t the case. Arizona allows for “industrial hemp” production, but state law strictly defines those products to excluded derivatives and extracts — basically all delta-8 THC products — and explicitly says hemp products “made to be ingested” except those made of the hemp seed are not legal. And since the state’s hemp law doesn’t list inhalable products, like vape cartridges, those are also illegal to sell outside of dispensaries.

A legal opinion on Monday from Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes threatens to quash the sale of delta-8 THC products in smoke shops and gas stations.

    Matt Hennie

‘It’s a wrongheaded approach to marijuana policy’

Mayes has effectively handed the existing marijuana industry a monopoly, said Jon Udell, the communications director for Arizona’s NORML chapter. NORML has backed legislation seeking to regulate the sale of delta-8 THC and similar projects in Arizona.

“This is Attorney General Mayes giving the marijuana industry something that the legislature would not,” he said. “It’s a disappointing outcome.”

Udell noted that legislation backed by the Arizona Dispensaries Association, which represents licensed cannabis retailers in the state, has been introduced in recent years that would do everything from outright ban hemp-derived THC products to making them legal to sell only at dispensaries.

Mayes’ legal opinion effectively does the latter, Udell said.

He noted that, in 2022, the Arizona Dispensaries Association chipped in $40,000 to a political committee that went on to spend more than $367,000 to help Mayes get elected. Mayes won the attorney general’s race over Republican Abe Hamadeh by just 280 votes.

Ann Torrez, the executive director of the Arizona Dispensaries Association, said her organization was pleased with Mayes’ findings.

“We believe it reflects the intent of Arizona’s voters and most importantly is in the best interest of public health and safety,” she said in an email to the Arizona Mirror.

Tom Dean, a Phoenix attorney who specializes in cannabis law, said Mayes’ opinion reads like a point-by-point rebuttal of a legal analysis he provided to her office in late 2023. Dean’s analysis concluded that hemp-based THC products were legal under Arizona and federal law.

Dean said he was disappointed in Mayes’ findings, which aren’t legally binding, and said the legal dispute over delta-8 THC and similar products warrants litigation. He said he is interested in building a coalition to seek a declaratory judgment from the courts to settle the matter once and for all.

“It’s just yet another example of what I think is a wrongheaded approach to marijuana policy in general,” he said.

Of particular concern for both Dean and Udell is how the opinion will affect CBD sales in Arizona. CBD products generally do not contain THC, the psychoactive element in marijuana, because they are made from hemp plants, which contain scant amounts of THC.

Mayes wrote in a footnote in her opinion that her conclusions only apply to “intoxicating” hemp-based products, and CBD production and sales are exempted from her findings. But both Dean and Udell said they don’t see how she can interpret the state’s hemp laws one way for delta-8 THC and another for CBD, given that they’re both made from the same plant.

“There’s absolutely no legal distinction between CBD and delta-8,” Dean said. “They want to treat CBD differently, but they can’t.”

  • The Best Reasons For A Good Bong

The Best Reasons For A Good Bong

    [ad_1]

Acceptance of marijuana has grown with the President talking about it positively in his State of the Union address, Missouri doing over $1 billion in sales and 85+% of the population believing it should be legal in some form.  If you are new to cannabis or an old hat though, bongs can make for an excellent experience. Here are the best reason for a good bong.

RELATED: The Most Popular Marijuana Flavors

Some people find bongs inconvenient and apropos to a college dorm room, but bongs are effective in managing dosages and treating your lungs with a little more care than a joint thanks to the water filter.  Technology has evolved over the years, with devices now available to help keep your space clean, are more compact and, most importantly, make the most of your high priced stash.

Photo by secret agent mike/Getty Images

    Better grasp on your dosage

Consistent doses are difficult to achieve when smoking weed. When rolling a joint or a blunt, these can end up coming out in different sizes, containing different grams of weed. When packing a bong, there’s always the same bowl, which allows for consistency and keeping better track of how much you smoke without having to count the amount of puffs you take.

    A cleaner space

The easiest way to consume is a vape or gummies, but a bong has advantages also.  Smoking requires something for ashes, a strong smell and generally a bit more mess, a bong can be both attractive in the space and be cleaner.

An easy way to clean a bong is to use rubbing alcohol and sea salt. Soak it for a while and then jostle it around. Rinse really well, let dry and put it away until next time.

RELATED: How To Smoke Marijuana In An Apartment Without Getting Evicted

    Longer lasting marijuana

Bongs are more efficient when it comes to prolonging your weed. Since you consume so much smoke per hit, they tend to get you high faster, with less puffs than if you were smoking a joint or blunt.

    Smoother hits

RELATED: How To Clean Your Marijuana Gear Without Using Rubbing Alcohol

Water used in bongs allows the hits to be smoother and gentler on your lungs, preventing irritation and filtering out some of the ash that occurs with combustion. There’s also no need to add tobacco or paper, both compounds that damage your lungs.

So if you invest in a good bong, you can go old school and have a great journey.

  • Chill On National Unplug Day With A Gummy

Chill On National Unplug Day With A Gummy

    [ad_1]

Today is the day to pull the plug on your electronic devices, kick back and enjoy life in real time. It promotes giving our brain, body and eyes a chance to heal and readjust to life in the moment. What better way to start March then letting your mind be an unfettered playground. Science has long been clear excessive screen time is not healthy, so why not chill on National Unplug Day with a gummy.

RELATED: The Most Popular Marijuana Flavors

Over the last 15 years, most everyone of all generations has slowly become attached to digital devices. While it has done wonders in the day to day business of work, banking, and staying connected to friends and family, screen times also agitates the brain.  Marijuana’s key psychoactive ingredient is THC. It stimulates the part of your brain responding to pleasure, like food and sex. This unleashes a chemical called dopamine, which gives you a euphoric, relaxed feeling.

The National Day of Unplugging started in 2009 in partnership with Jewish arts and culture non-profit Reboot and Sabbath Manifesto. The event draws on the Jewish tradition of observing a weekly day of rest, called Shabbat. In Jewish culture, Shabbat is typically observed from sunset on Friday evening until nightfall on Saturday.

The term digital native refers to people who have grown up using digital technology, and are therefore highly comfortable with and possibly dependent on it. So various generations have a different relationships screens.  But across the board, a little break is positive.

RELATED: People Who Use Weed Also Do More Of Another Fun Thing

Science has shown unplugging is positive for you and can make you happier and more productive.  Some of the reasons include

Screen time disrupts sleep and desynchronizes the body clock.
Because light from screen devices mimics daytime, it suppresses melatonin, a sleep signal released by darkness. Screen stimulation can delay melatonin release, desynchronizing the body clock. Once disrupted it can effect deep sleep which is how the mind and body heals.

Screen time desensitizes the brain’s reward system.
Gaming releases so much dopamine—the “feel-good” chemical. But when reward pathways are overused, they become less sensitive, and more and more stimulation is needed to experience pleasure. Meanwhile, dopamine is also critical for focus and motivation, so needless to say, even small changes in dopamine sensitivity can wreak havoc on you function.

    Screen time induces stress reactions.
Both acute stress (fight-or-flight) and chronic stress produce changes in brain chemistry and hormones that can increase irritability. Indeed, cortisol, the chronic stress hormone, seems to be both a cause and an effect of depression—creating a vicious cycle. Additionally, both hyperarousal and addiction pathways suppress the brain’s frontal lobe, the area where mood regulation actually takes place.

Marijuana gummies on the other hand, have a chill effect, and, thanks to data from BDSA, we also know they are the most popular way people, especially those under 45, consume. So give your body and mind a break and chill on national unplug day with a gummy.
