Studio Sushi is Revolutionizing Tourism With Their Brand New Japanese Game Show Cooking Course

Delighting tourists with a blend of authentic sushi cooking classes and interactive entertainment, Studio Sushi offers a whole new perspective on Japanese culture and heritage

Japan has become a hotspot for international tourists, welcoming a record-breaking 3,081,600 visitors in March, as reported by the Japan National Tourism Organization. This figure surpasses the pre-pandemic numbers of March 2019 by 11.6%, setting a new historical high for the month.

A significant factor driving this tourism boom is the depreciation of the yen, with it recently hovering near 150 yen per dollar, marking the weakest yen in approximately 34 years. For tourists, this translates to an exceptional opportunity to enjoy Japan’s exquisite cuisine and heartfelt hospitality at an affordable price.

In response to the profound impact of COVID-19 on its tourism industry, Japan has been actively revitalizing its attractions. One of the standout additions is Studio Sushi, a sushi experience entertainment venue that opened its doors in May 2024. Studio Sushi emerged with the mission to educate visitors on the art of sushi and Japanese culinary culture while delivering a highly entertaining and unforgettable experience. The result is a bilingual and fully immersive sushi-making class combining a rich cultural experience with modern entertainment.

The innovative experience includes a hands-on session where participants learn the art of sushi-making from preparing sushi rice to making nigiri, sushi rolls, and chirashi-zushi.

However, what sets Studio Sushi apart is its emphasis on entertainment, a component often sidelined in traditional cooking classes. Each session incorporates exciting quizzes and challenges, enriching the overall educational experience, while also encouraging guests to laugh, relax, and learn in a fun and comfortable environment.

Studio Sushi goes a step further by offering participants the chance to step behind an upscale sushi counter and become a chef themselves. Guests are challenged to create one final masterpiece sushi under the watchful eye of their resident chef Baba Masato and present their creation to the restaurant, adding an exciting layer of authenticity to the experience.

Guests leave not only with the knowledge and ability to create their own sushi at home but also with several mementos, including a chef’s hat, access to exclusive instructional videos to recreate the magic at home, as well as immediate access to all of the photos and videos taken on the day.

Through the captivating blend of culture, cuisine, and competition, Studio Sushi is changing the face of tourism in Japan. Their innovative approach provides a unique perspective on Japanese heritage, leaving guests with memories, skills, laughs, and an enriched understanding of the gastronomic art that sushi truly is.

New restaurant Soul de Cuba Cafe opens in Seminole Heights

A brand new cafe and restaurant with century-old ties to Tampa quietly opened its doors in Seminole Heights.

Soul de Cuba Cafe is located at 6428 N Florida Ave. adjacent to other Seminole Heights hotspots like Gulf Coast Sourdough, Rooster & the Till and Trip’s Diner. Its owners describe the eatery’s fare as “Cuban criollo cuisine with Old Tampa and Ybor City sabor,” with a menu that features everything from traditional Cuban eats to Tampa-centric entrees and deserts.

The cafe and restaurant soft opened in late February, but a press release says it will host an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, March 20 at 5:30 p.m.

Soul de Cuba boasts a traditional menu of lechon asado, Cuban sandwiches, oxtail stew and the Tampa classic crab shalah, a pasta dish that features lump crab in a Creole-style red sauce. All of its entrees have evolved from longtime family recipes that Executive Chef Roberto Puerto has put a professional twist on.

In addition to espresso and cafe con leches, Soul de Cuba also offers sangrias, mojitos and N/A beverages like teas and juices alongside a Sunday brunch menu of guava and cheese French toast, scrambled eggs with pineapple and plantain hash and Cuban breakfast sandwiches.

While the business itself is new to Tampa, Soul de Cuba has been around for almost 20 years operating its OG location in Connecticut, selling its line of marinades, salad dressings and coffee beans online and “promoting and preserving Afro-Cuban culture” through its food and the community surrounding it.

Soul de Cuba owner Jesus Puerto’s local roots stem back all the way back to Ybor City’s La Segunda Bakery in the early 20th century, where his great grandfather worked as a master baker for several years.

Jesus and his brother, Chef Roberto Puerto, opened the first iteration of Soul de Cuba in New Haven in 2005.

Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis opens 2 Scottsdale restaurants

Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis has partnered with the brand new Old Town hotel Caesars Republic Scottsdale to bring two restaurants to the Valley. After many delays to the overall project, the hotel and its restaurants officially open on March 6.

De Laurentiis is an award-winning chef, television personality, restaurateur and author of nine cookbooks. Some of her television shows include Food Network’s “Everyday Italian,” “Giada at Home,” “Giada’s Weekend Getaways,” “Giada In Paradise,” “Giada In Italy,” and more.

She also has two Las Vegas restaurants, her signature, debut spot Giada at The Cromwell hotel and the more casual Pronto by Giada at Caesars Palace. She’s bringing Pronto to Scottsdale, along with a new concept called Luna by Giada.

Luna by Giada is a brand new concept from the celebrity chef. It’s opening inside the Caesars Republic hotel in Scottsdale.

    Caesars Republic

What’s on the menu at Luna by Giada?

While technically different from her debut restaurant, Luna will still showcase De Laurentiis’ Italian American style of cooking. The concept will highlight the famous chef’s “Roman heritage, mirroring her passion for Italian cooking with vibrant, California influences and a world-class guest experience,” according to the Caesars website.

On the menu, starters include bread plates and salads along with a selection of seafood including crab arancini, oyster crudo and a shellfish tower with Maine lobster, crab, shrimp and clams.

There are six individual pasta dishes including the chef’s signature lemon spaghetti with shrimp, mascarpone cheese, basil and capers. An additional pasta, the lobster bucatini with Calabrian chile pomodoro, is designed for two. The pizza menu includes four options, with a lemon pizza riffing off the pasta dish.

The entree menu features seared salmon, a petit filet and branzino with caramelized fennel. Sharing continues to be encouraged with the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a 32-ounce wood-grilled porterhouse steak served with cacio e pepe ravioli.

Reservations are recommended at Luna, and fans have clearly already secured their seats. As of opening day, very few tables remain within the rest of the month. So if you’re eager to try the celebrity chef’s food, make sure to plan way in advance.

Pronto by Giada is a much more casual, counter-service cafe that serves breakfast and lunch.

Fans who have visited the Las Vegas location of Pronto by Giada will recognize much of the menu and vibe at the Scottsdale location. It is, however, smaller with a more condensed menu designed for the first-floor space inside the new Caesars Republic hotel.

Pronto serves breakfast sandwiches, wraps, pastries and coffee in the morning, panini, salads and soups for lunch and gelato for dessert. The casual cafe is designed for hotel guests or locals on the go stopping by for a quick and casual bite.

Caesars Republic is located just north of the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall and is the only non-gaming hotel from Caesars Entertainment in the country.

It’s always a party with Mint Cannabis.

The company celebrated the expansion of its brand into Scottsdale for the first time by hosting a grand opening party on Feb. 23 with music, swag bags, nonmedicated tacos and ticket giveaways to “Bob Marley: One Love.” Because of course they did.

The Scottsdale dispensary is Mint’s sixth store in the Valley — the fifth one opened in the West Valley in February 2023. It also has six dispensaries in Michigan and one in Missouri. Located at 8729 E. Manzanita Drive, the Scottsdale dispensary is not far from Talking Stick Resort.

Cannabis fans know Mint for opening a first-of-its-kind cannabis kitchen in 2018, adding a drive-thru in 2020 and being the first to go 24 hours a day in 2022.

Mint also knows a thing or two about infused fundraisers and festivals.

“A key Italian cultural point that we strongly promote in our restaurants is great respect for the ‘materia prima’ (or the raw ingredient),” co-owner Andrea Burrone said in a news release. “Together with the desire to develop and give voice to Italian culinary regionalities, particularly Milano, we are constantly pushing ourselves to innovate and redefine the boundaries of what is commonly perceived as Italian cuisine.”

Ambrogio15 is the namesake restaurant of a San Diego-based hospitality group, which is opening its first eatery outside of Southern California.

    What’s on Ambrogio15’s menu?

The menu has been crafted by Michelin-starred chef Silvio Salmoiraghi of Italy’s Ristorante Acquerello, who has partnered with Ambrogio15 Restaurant Group since 2020, and Phoenix executive chef Fabio Pizzigoni.

In addition to Milanese-style pizzas, guests can expect “an extensive menu of authentic Italian fare” that includes pastas, steaks, seafood and a raw bar. The announcement teased dishes such as Lobster Pasta, a 30-day dry-aged Porterhouse Steak alla Fiorentina, pizza with fresh burrata and 20-month aged Prosciutto Crudo di Parma, and Scallop Sashimi with saffron risotto and Champagne sauce.

The craft cocktail menu was designed by Marco Russo, whose Milan speakeasy 1930 is among the World’s 50 Best Bars. Drink selections will also feature “a globe-straddling selection of boutique natural wines inside a glass-fronted wine tower carved right into the heart of the restaurant,” according to the release.

“Developing our concept, we wanted to stand out through our selection of wines,” said Giacomo Pizzigoni, co-owner of the restaurant and cousin of the executive chef. “We love to work with winemakers who are passionate about their terroirs and craft wines that will surprise guests and help them discover new perspectives on this very hands-on and sensorial approach to winemaking.”

    What’s the vibe?

The 5,000 square-foot space is “soaring,” with a “sleek and wood-lined space,” that likewise takes inspiration from the modern Italian city from which its owners hail.

“This is a neighborhood known for being luxurious, stylish and discerning, which is exactly what defines the look and feel of Ambrogio15,” Burrone said.

Ambrogio15 also boasts a 12-person private dining room with a dedicated bar, which will host a “Chef’s Table Experience,” of an eight-course tasting menu paired with natural wines or cocktails, drawing on inspiration from its sibling restaurant in La Jolla, California, Ambrogio by Acquerello.

The restaurant will serve dinner nightly, and reservations are now open. The team plans to add lunch, weekend brunch, happy hour and late-night dining in the future.

  • Dedicating the New Ideal Mission of Scientology of Senigallia, Italy

Dedicating the New Ideal Mission of Scientology of Senigallia, Italy

Launching a new era for Scientology on Italy’s Adriatic coast.

    Press Release

    updated: Sep 28, 2017

Scientologists from across Italy, joined by civic and religious leaders, gathered Saturday, Sept. 23 on the country’s beautiful Adriatic coast for the dedication of the new Ideal Church of Scientology Mission of Senigallia.

Located at 312 via Raffaello Sanzio, the Mission’s new home is steps from the city’s famous Velvet Beach and a short walk from the iconic Rotonda del Mare pier. The Mission stands ready to serve anyone wishing to know more about the mind, the spirit and life, to experience the miracles of Dianetics and Scientology, and to learn the wisdom contained in the works of L. Ron Hubbard, Founder of the Scientology religion.

The inauguration of this Mission is a great step forward for the entire Le Marche region. It offers a place where people can discover their own value and share it with others to better our society.

Mr. Valentino Belucci , Italian philosopher, sociologist, poet, painter and educator

Welcoming the Scientologists and their guests who traveled to the seaside resort, Mr. Maurizio Memè, Deputy Mayor of Senigallia, said, “It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to your new home on behalf of the mayor and the city.”

Following the deputy mayor’s greetings, Dr. Mario Limache Orellano addressed the gathering. Originally from Bolivia, where he worked as a journalist and radio and television announcer, for many years he has been active in Italy in the field of cultural mediation — building bridges among people of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. It was in Senigallia that he learned of Scientology.

“I consider it my job in social communication to bring people together to meet and discuss and solve problems,” he said. “This carries with it a responsibility to understand Man and society. And so it was my good fortune to have discovered the works of Mr. L Ron Hubbard. I discovered that there was a method of awakening the mind and heart. And in this way, the teachings and technologies of Dianetics and Scientology align perfectly with my profession.”

Mr. Valentino Belucci, Italian philosopher, sociologist, poet, painter, and educator,  welcomed the new mission saying, “I studied Oriental philosophy, modern teachings and sciences. And then I found someone who had discovered a way to invariably help mankind achieve greater skill and ability — L. Ron Hubbard. The inauguration of this Mission is a great step forward for the entire Le Marche region. It offers a place where people can discover their own value and share it with others to better our society.

After the traditional ribbon cutting, the doors of the mission opened for those attending to tour the new facilities, including the Mission’s public information center, where visitors may freely discover at their leisure what Dianetics and Scientology can do for them. They also visited the Purification Center, where people free themselves from the harmful effects of toxic substances, so prevalent in today’s chemically based society. They viewed the spacious classroom that offers seminars and life improvement courses through which so many people have changed their lives for the better and increased their abilities. And they saw the rooms where Scientology ministers provide individual spiritual counseling, helping people achieve higher states of consciousness and spiritual freedom.

For more than 40 years, Scientology has been an active force in Italy. Its 12 Scientology Churches and 20 Missions see to the spiritual progress of thousands of Italians of every age, background, and profession.
