It was date night for the happy couple, who had previously attended ceremonies together while avoiding walking any red carpets in tandem.
Mescal, 29, was in a black jacket and pants and a simple white dress shirt. He was on hand as a nominee for his work portraying a young William Shakespeare in “Hamnet.” Mescal lost Leading Actor to newcomer Robert Aramayo for “I Swear,” a film that hasn’t made an impression in the U.S.

This is proof that if they can do it, anyone can. And the lore with the pop hitmaker and the Stranger Things star is so deep that I can’t help but wish this odd couple well.
If you aren’t chronically online with a brain that’s merely a Rolodex of pop culture facts (it’s getting to be a problem for me — my obsession with Deuxmoi’s Sunday Spotteds has eaten up years of my life at this point and don’t even get me started on my screen time), here’s the rundown on their lore — which started two years ago.
It might seem like a millennium has passed since the last season of the Netflix smash hitStranger Things dropped, but it’s only been two years. With the season’s release, Quinn shot to popularity as the lovable outcast Eddie. Doja Cat was one of many admirers, brazenly tweeting that she thought he was “fine as sh*t.”
The since-deleted tweet is the first record of their courtship. It’s her version of Gatsby throwing a party in hopes that Daisy will attend. She was shooting her shot. It feels crazy that Doja Cat — a viral superstar who inspired a song by none other than other British heartthrob Central Cee — pulls the same tactics as I do by posting strategic Instagram stories. Celebs really are just like us.
However, for a minute there, it looked like the two would never get to this point. In her quest to get her man, Doja didn’t stop at a tweet. She slid into the DMs … of Quinn’s 17-year-old costar, Noah Schnapp.
“Noah can you tell Joseph to hit me up,” Doja asked Schnapp. “Wait no. does he have a gf?” Of course, as a 17-year-old, Noah Schnapp immediately posted this message on TikTok. Despite the familiar tone of her message, it turns out the two didn’t know each other at all — so why was Doja asking him for favors? And asking a teenage boy to be your matchmaker, especially one who barely had any scenes with Quinn, is a strange move — the things we do for love.
This weird moment obviously went viral and resulted in a short feud between Schnapp and the “ Say So” star. Doja accused the teenager of “bullying” her, calling it “degrading,” “exploitative,” and “super embarrassing.” However, after a few TikToks and livestream rants, Schnapp claimed everything was “all good” between them.
We all thought that was the end of it — until recently, when Quinn and Doja Cat were seen strolling arm-in-arm around London. Talk about the long game.
It seems the songstress has been cozying around with the Hawkins heartthrob for weeks. I mean, who would have thought that the brooding, mysterious Eddie Munson from Stranger Things and the bold, boundary-pushing Doja Cat would make such an iconic pair? But you know what they say – opposites attract, and these two are proof that you can manifest anything.
Fans have even started referencing that original tweet to manifest their own dreams — from other celebrities to jobs and even “Mike Faist employment” by calling them “fine as sh*t.” If it worked for Doja, universe, just know I think a Challengers sequel would be fine as sh*t.

From Tom Holland and Zendaya to Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge — plus Gracie Abrams and Paul Mescal (yes, we know he’s Irish but the two have been cozying it up around London) — I’m looking up flights to London as we speak.
What’s next for the two stars, time can only tell. Quinn is about to set off on his press tour for Gladiator II (and filming Stranger Things 5, I hope), but the two of them are enjoying a London summer while ushering up London Boy Fall.
Continuing to give listeners a taste of her “Swiftian prowess” on the songwriting front, Gracie Abrams has rolled out the second music video for a single from The Story of Us: “I Love You, I’m Sorry.” Something of a “sequel” to 2020’s “I Miss You, I’m Sorry,” Abrams is only somewhat less doleful on this particular track (which she first previewed on Instagram earlier this year, exactly four years after the release of “I Miss You, I’m Sorry”). Of course, more than apologizing to the object of her affection for hurting him and loving him (even still), she’s ultimately apologizing to herself for being silly enough to do so. But, as another Swiftian acolyte, Selena Gomez, once said, “The heart wants what it wants.” (Mind you, Woody Allen said this before her…about Soon-Yi Previn—and yes, Allen does seem like someone who would co-star in Only Murders in the Building with Gomez if he weren’t cancelled.)
Like the first single from The Story of Us, “Risk,” the video for “I Love You, I’m Sorry” is once again directed by Abrams’ bestie and frequent co-songwriter, Audrey Hobert. Accordingly, “I Love You, I’m Sorry” offers a similar “narrative” to “Risk” in that, basically, Abrams is an absolute wreck over a guy, all while attempting, hopelessly, to “play it cool.” Except that, in the case of “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” the relationship was actually serious. Serious enough for her to still be reflecting on it while sitting on the beach two years later. For that’s where Hobert commences the story, with Abrams describing, “Two Augusts ago/I told the truth, oh/But you didn’t like it, you went home.”
Hobert then reveals Abrams in a series of scenes during which her overall vibe echoes the lyric, “I might not feel real, but it’s okay, mm.” Her aura of “not feeling real” shows up when she’s dissociatedly drinking Aperol spritzes with friends (including Hobert), when she’s riding in the backseat of a car, when she’s in bed reading a book with a cover that reads with the generic title “Self Help” (that’s right, no hyphen)—when she’s doing, hell, just about anything. In the book-reading scene, Abrams also looks ever so slightly like Billie Eilish in her current Hit Me Hard and Soft era, but then, there’s also moments when she doesn’t look so dissimilar from Madison Beer either. All of which is to say that Abrams channels quite a few singer-songwriter types of the moment, both lyrically and aesthetically.
Though she does seem, at the very least, to be “original” in terms of being among the few Gen Z “pop stars” to proudly display her drinking habit in full effect, cheersing the viewer with her spritz in a manner that indicates she’s gotten slightly “classier” since she was filling her wine glass to the brim with a generic red in “Risk.” Her “class” game has also been one-upped by paying slight homage to Bob Dylan’s “Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine),” still every “thoughtful” female songwriter’s go-to for inspiration (followed closely by Joni Mitchell). This comes in the form of the rueful yet shrugging line, “I’ll be on a boat, you’re on a plane going somewhere, same.” In other words, as Dylan put it, “I’m just gonna let you pass/Yes, and I’ll go last/And then time will tell just who has fell/And who’s been left behind/When you go your way and I go mine.”
If Abrams were to guess, though, it seems she thinks she’s the one who will fall, taking ownership of being the “dick” in the situation (Olivia Rodrigo would never). This much is made clear in the bridge, wherein she belts out, “You were the best, but you were the worst/As sick as it sounds, I loved you first/I was a dick, it is what it is/A habit to kick, the age-old curse/I tend to laugh whenever I’m sad/I stare at the crash, it actually works.” And yet, it’s Hobert who pushes her out of the car about midway through the video so that she can truly watch the metaphorical car crash, entering an auditorium to accept the award for Asshole of the Year. In this moment, Abrams surprises viewers by not having the boy who theoretically did her wrong take the stage, but gladly decides to do so herself, claiming the trophy and then ripping the head off of it to sing into it like a mic, confessing all her sins and still wishing that things might have been different. In another sense, Abrams also gives off the Dylan verse, “You say you’re sorry/For tellin’ me stories/That you know I believe are true/Say ya got some other/Other kind of lover/And yes, I believe you do.”
Abrams’ version of that acknowledgement is, “That’s just the way life goes [or, as Janet would say, “That’s the way love goes”]/I like to slam doors closed/Trust me, I know it’s always about me.” This last line mirrors Taylor Swift on “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” as she sings, “So tell me everything is not about me/But what if it is?” And, in another instance of her Swift-like mimicry, Abrams sings, “I push my luck, it shows/Thankful you don’t send someone to kill me.” This also paralleling Swift on “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” when she demands, “Were you sent by someone who wanted me dead?”
And so, no matter which songwriter Abrams is riffing on for “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” she’s made a video that’s at least faintly more unique than the song itself. A lament as old as the 1960s by this point. Fortunately for Abrams, the generation she’s trying to appeal to appears to have no awareness of those forebears who were already saying the same thing. In short, they think Abrams just fell out of a coconut tree.

Gracie Abrams’ first meeting with Taylor Swift is a dream scenario for any fan. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Abrams revealed that Swift reached out from an unknown number to invite her to a birthday party. Understandably cautious, Abrams checked with a mutual producer to make sure it was real. “Can you confirm something for me, or is someone just trying to break my heart?” she asked.
April 2023: Opening Act for The Eras Tour
Almost two years later, Gracie Abrams found herself living the dream as the opening act for the North American leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
Abrams described her time on the Eras Tour as the most “incredible experience of [her] life”. She explained to Variety that having the routine for four months profoundly affected her, enhancing her overall happiness and influencing the music she created during that period.

Three months into the tour, bad weather led to the cancellation of Abrams’ opening set. However, Swift, ever the supportive friend, invited her onstage to perform a duet of I miss you, I’m sorry.

Abrams announced the track list for her upcoming album, The Secret of Us, revealing a song titled Us with a special collaboration from Swift.
June 2024: A Fiery Collaboration
The singer reminisced about her collaboration with Taylor Swift ahead of the release, recounting an eventful songwriting session. The evening began with dinner, wine, and a mutual preview of their upcoming albums, The Tortured Poets Department and The Secret Of Us.
“Something caught our attention simultaneously,” Abrams recalled to Billboard. “We rushed to the piano and began crafting this song… It’s something I used to daydream about as a child.”

During their creative session, Abrams heard a loud thud in Swift’s New York apartment. At first, they thought it was just one of Swift’s cats causing mischief. But as they investigated further, they found out it was actually a fallen candle that had set Swift’s kitchen island on fire. Luckily, Swift acted fast and grabbed a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before things got out of hand.
In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) by Abrams, Swift scrambles to find her fire extinguisher to douse a flaming object on her kitchen counter.
“I think we’re gonna die,” Swift can be heard joking in the video as she readies the extinguisher.
“No, we’re not gonna die,” Abrams laughed in response.
June 2024: Taylor and Gracie Sing Us at the Eras Tour
