You may soon be able to change your Gmail address

A Google support page in Hindi says the ability to change your Gmail address is on the way. The feature would allow you to replace your current @gmail.com address with another. Your old address would remain active as an alias on the account, and all your data would stick around, unaffected.

The support page (translated) says that “the ability to change your Google Account email address is gradually rolling out to all users.” The change was first spotted on a Google Pixel forum on Telegram and was first reported in the press by 9to5Google.

Google hasn’t made a formal announcement about the change. The English version of the support page still says you usually can’t change your @gmail.com address. Up to this point, Google has only allowed address changes for non-gmail.com addresses.

Engadget reached out to Google for confirmation. We’ll update this story if we hear back.

When the feature (presumably) rolls out broadly, you’ll change it through your account settings. Sign in to your Google account, then go to Manage your Google account > Personal info > Google Account email. If you don’t see the option to change it, then you’ll have to wait.

Google is retiring its free dark web monitoring tool next year

Google will stop sending out dark web reports starting early next year, as it shuts down the free tool that can tell you if your personal information has appeared on the seedy underbelly of the internet. The tool used to be exclusively available to Google One subscribers until the company opened it up to everyone in mid-2024. If you switch it on, you’ll receive a notification whenever your name, email address and phone number leak on the internet, typically due to data breaches.

In Google’s email announcement, however, it said it was discontinuing dark web reports because “feedback showed that it did not provide helpful next steps.” A report just lets you know that your information has appeared on the dark web. You can also see a list of all the hits you get on your Google account, along with what data breach leaked that particular detail. However, it doesn’t give you guidance on what to do afterwards.

The company explained that it will focus on tools that can give you clear, actionable step to take instead. Google will stop monitoring for new dark web results on January 15, 2026 and will remove access to the report from your account on February 16. You can also remove your monitoring profile right now by going to the “results with your info” section on the tool’s official page.

Google Calendar now lets you schedule tasks

Productivity setups are a personal thing. Some people swear by to-do lists and apps, some people like scheduling and planners. For those in the latter camp, Google has made a minor but valuable addition to the Workspace suite. Going forward, you’ll be able to block off segments of time in Google Calendar for working on specific tasks. You can add descriptions and set your preferences for that task in regard to do not disturb and visibility settings. It’s a nice step up from scheduling meetings with yourself when you have to focus on a particular assignment (which several of us at Engadget have been known to do).

This option began appearing for Google’s Rapid Release domains earlier in November, while standard release domains will see a gradual release beginning December 1. Once it’s fully rolled out, it will be available by default, whether you’re a Google Workspaces customer or just using a personal Google account.

How to cancel your Peacock subscription

It happened again. Peacock for its Premium and Premium Plus plans. This is the third price increase in as many years. If your bank account is feeling the pain, or if you’re just looking to , you may decide it’s time to take a break from . Here’s everything you need to know about canceling your Peacock subscription.

How to cancel via web

The simplest way to end your Peacock Premium service is if you’re being billed directly by the company. You can follow the same steps in a web or mobile browser.
1. Log in to your Peacock Premium or Premium Plus account.
2. Click on the Profile icon.
3. Select Account or Plans & Payments.
5. Follow the prompts to confirm the cancellation.
That’s pretty simple, but things get a bit more complicated if you’re not in a direct-billing situation.

How to cancel via third-party provider

Like most modern streaming platforms, Peacock has partnerships with third-party providers like Apple and Amazon. This lets users sign up for the service through an entirely separate platform, like Prime Video. Cancelling has to also go through this third party. The general idea here is to sign into that account and find somewhere to manage billing and subscriptions, looking for Peacock. Here are specific steps for some of the more common providers.

Cancel via Apple
1. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap on your name at the top of the screen and tap Subscriptions.
3. Select your Peacock subscription to manage and make changes.
Cancel via Amazon
1. Go to Amazon Memberships and Subscriptions using a web browser.
2. Sign in to your Amazon account.
3. Navigate to your Peacock subscription and select Cancel Subscription.
Cancel via Google Play
1. Go to the Google Play store using a web browser.
2. Confirm that you’re signed in to your Google account.
3. On the top right, click your Google account icon and select Payment & Subscriptions.
4. Click the Subscriptions tab and select your Peacock subscription.
5. Click Manage and select Cancel subscription.
Cancel via Roku
1. On your Roku TV, highlight Peacock.
2. Press the star (*) button.
3. Select Manage Subscriptions.
4. Look for Peacock and hit Cancel.
How to cancel a promotional subscription

Peacock is often given away by internet providers like Comcast and phone carriers, among others. These plans often start free, but that goes away after a year or so. Check the fine print to see when your gifted subscription will run out, as you’ll begin getting charged the usual rate. The best way to cancel these subscriptions is via the entity that offered it in the first place. This means you’ll have to call up Xfinity or Spectrum directly. A customer representative should be able to handle the cancellation.

Can I pause a Peacock subscription?

No, Peacock doesn’t currently offer the ability to pause a subscription. The best way to effectively “pause” a subscription is to cancel via one of the aforementioned methods and then resubscribe at a later date.

What happens after you cancel?

Cancelling a Peacock subscription doesn’t immediately end your service. There are no partial refunds given, so you’ll have full access to the account until the next payment date. At that point, the service will revert to the free tier. This means that if you change your mind before the next pay period, it’s really easy to get things going again. Just look for a Restart Subscription button somewhere on the Account page.

Like most modern tech services, cancelling doesn’t erase any of your data. The subscription reverts to the free tier and will live on. To permanently close an account, you have to manually fill out a request via the in the Account page. This will lead you to a website to close the account.
