Lara Spencer has paid tribute to her mom, Carolyn von Seelen, who has passed away aged 85.
The GMA anchor took to social media on February 16 to announce the sad news, revealing that Carolyn – a brain tumor survivor – had died on February 13 – something she believes her mother would have “got a kick out of”.
The TV star opened up about the “overwhelming sadness” of her mom’s passing, and shared that Carolyn was now reunited with her late husband, Richard, who passed away in 2011, as well as “our sister Pamela”.
Lara Spencer announced that her beloved mother has died aged 85
She penned: “If you were lucky enough to meet my mom you know that smile that lit up every room she walked into. What you might not have seen at first glance was her courage, resilience, endless optimism, deep faith, and boundless love for her family.”
Lara continued: “She was a woman who loved a saying and used them often to help us get thru life’s challenges or painful moments. One of her favorite was ‘don’t be sad it’s over honey—be grateful it happened’. Sorry mama but there’s no way to not feel the pain of overwhelming sadness at the thought of not having you to share life with each day, but we sure are grateful YOU happened and showered with your love and warmth and humor.
Lara’s mother had survived a brain tumor back in 2024
“Our loving mom, grandmother to 12 and great-grandmother to 4 left us on Friday the 13TH (which we know she would have gotten a kick out of) surrounded by her children and her beloved rescue dog to reunite with my Dad and our sister Pamela. We love you always and forever mom.”
Lara’s co-stars shared their condolences following the sad news. Rebecca Jarvis wrote: “Sending you and your family so much love, Lara. I feel so fortunate to have met her at GMA – a truly special woman with a transcendent spark. May her memory be a blessing,” while Ginger Zee added: “So sorry Lara and sending you and the entire family so much love and peace.”
Lara was the youngest of her mother’s children
Photos posted to accompany the tribute included several family snapshots featuring Lara and her mother, as well some with Carolyn and the rest of the GMA anchors, including Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan.
In 2024, Carolyn completed treatment for a brain tumor, and Lara paid tribute to her back in July when her mother turned 85, reflecting on her health battle.

She wrote: “‘No presents!!!! Just your presence.’ My mom- She has defied the odds – surviving a pretty horrible diagnosis, major brain tumor surgery and all that goes with it – and now a year and 7 months later – as she welcomes her 85th lap around the sun – she continues to inspire us to be optimistic and grateful for every day we are lucky enough to enjoy.
“It was a truly joyful birthday celebration with all five of her children, a gaggle of grandkids, and now 3 great grandkids who will one day will look at these pictures and see that twinkle in her eye and know how much she loves them.”
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani declared on Wednesday that he has made the final decision to keep Jessica Tisch as police commissioner. However, it remains unclear if she wants to stay in the position under the new mayor.

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani declared on Wednesday that he has made the final decision to keep Jessica Tisch as police commissioner. However, it remains unclear if the city’s top cop wants to remain at the helm under the new mayor.
Appearing on Good Morning America the morning after declaring victory as the Big Apple’s 111th mayor, Mamdani stated that he wanted to keep Tisch on top of the NYPD because of her efforts to stamp out corruption.
“I’ve made my decision to retain Commissioner Tisch. I’ve done so because Eric Adams had stacked the upper echelon of the NYPD with incompetence and corruption. She came in and tackled and started to deliver accountability and reduce crime across the five boroughs,” Mamdani said.
While the second-youngest-ever mayor-to-be says he is decisive in his decision, Commissioner Tisch has kept a tight lip about the situation.
When amNewYork reached out to the NYPD for comment, a spokesperson referred us to previous comments made by Tisch in which she refused to dabble into city politics.
“As I’ve said many times, it is not appropriate for the Police Commissioner to be directly involved or to seem to be involved in electoral politics,” Tisch said.

Still, this has not stopped members of the department from internally speculating on what exactly her next moves will be.
Some police insiders, speaking anonymously to amNewYork, believe Tisch has established a strong track record for herself through record-low crime numbers and suggest that she may have aspirations to run for mayor herself in the future.
Other sources within the department speculate that they do not believe she will stay because her ideals and religious background do not align with Mamdani.
On Wednesday morning, Mamdani held a press conference in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, where he was again questioned about his conversations with Tisch and whether he felt he had convinced her to stay.
“I look forward to having conversations with her on that very subject,” he added.
Although he has made several public overtures that he wished to keep Tisch as his top cop, he has not publicly stated that he has spoken directly to her about it, or if she had informed him of an agreement to stay.
amNewYork reached out to the Mamdani campaign, asking whether the mayor-elect has spoken with Tisch since announcing, in an Oct. 22 New York Times report, his intention to retain her as the city’s top cop. We are waiting for a response.
Kim Kardashian has a positive update on her health!
In a preview for the upcoming season of The Kardashians out last week, Kimmy Kakes shockingly revealed she has a brain aneurysm, which she believes is linked to “stress” caused by her ex-husbandKanye West! Oof. So scary!
During an appearance on Good Morning America on Tuesday while promoting her new show All’s Fair, the SKIMS founder reassured host Robin Roberts that she’s alright. When asked how she’s doing after getting that diagnosis, Kim expressed:
“You’ll see in the next episode, I did go and get a Prenuvo scan. And I had to end up going and getting tons of other brain scans at Cedars[-Sinai] with all the team. Just tune in next week, but everything works out.”
Prenuvo scans are a comprehensive whole body MRI that tons of celebs and influencers have been promoting lately. She did one several years ago, too:
The model went on to encourage viewers to take their health seriously, urging:
“It’s just a good measure to go; make sure that you always check everything. And health is wealth, and you just have to be careful with everything that you do.”
It’s an important reminder to always be grateful for your well-being! Things can change in an instant. This must’ve been so nerve-racking! Watch Kim address her health scare (below):
If you’re unfamiliar, a brain aneurysm is “a bulge or ballooning in a blood vessel in the brain,” according to the Mayo Clinic. It’s actually quite “common,” they detailed:
“If the brain aneurysm leaks or ruptures, it causes bleeding in the brain, known as a hemorrhagic stroke. Brain aneurysms are common. But most brain aneurysms aren’t serious, especially if they’re small. Most brain aneurysms don’t rupture.”
That said, they can become life-threatening when they rupture and require “emergency treatment.” Interestingly, most are found when patients are being tested for other conditions and not everyone needs immediate treatment, depending on their individualized risk factors. It’s currently unclear at this point if Kim underwent any treatment. Guess we’ll find out in future episodes!
As TV networks tighten their belts thanks to economic issues and low ratings, high-profile stars will see changes not only to their contracts but to their shows on the whole.
Hoda Kotb’s decision to leave Today has her co-hosts in tears
“They say two things can be right at the same time, and I’m feeling that so deeply right now. I love you, and it’s time for me to leave the show,” she said in the letter.
She continued, “My broadcast career has been beyond meaningful; a new decade of my life lies ahead, and now my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie. I will miss you all desperately, but I’m ready and excited.”
She will leave the show early next year, but co-host Savannah Guthrie remains as her contract will last another year.
Another anchor with an uncertain future is MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, who reportedly makes a whopping $30 million a year, although her contract is under review.
Rachel is a major drawcard for the network and has hosted her own show since 2008, but her $600,000 per episode salary may be cut next year.
“We have had a tremendous shake-up in how TV is delivered and received, and the business is going through a major struggle trying to retain and grow revenues,” Joe Peyronnin, a former television news executive, told the Wall Street Journal.
Rachel Maddow reportedly makes $30 million a year from her self-titled show
Late-night talk shows are being slashed from five to four nights a week as the networks scramble to keep up with the changing television landscape.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and NBC’s Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon will no longer produce an episode each Friday.
While Jimmy Fallon is safe until 2028, with his contract extended until then, and Stephen signed on until 2026, Jimmy Kimmel told the LA Times that he may not re-sign after his contract ends in 2025.
CBS already axed The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2023 after eight years on air.
According to Forbes, this speaks to a broader trend of cable and broadcast TV versus streaming; only 57% of households now subscribe to cable television, and only three networks averaged over one million viewers during prime time compared to 19 in 2013. Only 30% of US adults use an antenna for broadcast TV.
The beloved Good Morning America could see hosts George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts’s contracts in limbo after they end next year; they both currently make $25 million, but after Disney, who owns the ABC network, told the show to cut costs by $19 million, their future hangs in the balance.
Good Morning America is cutting costs by $19 million
Over on CBS, Evening News star Norah O’Donnell was dealt a 50% pay cut by the network after her ratings had dropped by 25%, and she faces the chopping board after Paramount also deals with wide-scale layoffs to cut costs.
Clearly, the future of broadcast and cable TV is up in the air, and with it are the slew of beloved anchors sitting at the helm of some of television’s biggest shows.
The lovebirds married in a large ceremony in September 2023
Robin gave a sneak peek at their quiet dinner at home which featured a table set for two nestled on a patio adorned with flickering candles and floral arrangements.
The TV host could be heard saying: “Since we never actually got to eat at our wedding, a lovely gift from a longtime friend, Pam [Guglielmino], and the chef from our wedding night. Wow!”
Robin and Amber went on their first date 19 years ago
The camera panned to reveal a personalized menu inscribed with the words “Yes to dinner, always” and their names, Robin and Amber.
Robin said it was “a special time at home,” marking their milestone together.
Fans were also treated to unseen moments from their wedding day. Robin took to her Instagram Stories to share highlights, including an adorable clip of her nephew Jeremiah engaging in an “epic” dance-off with GMA weekend co-anchor Whit Johnson and a video of their cake cutting ceremony.
The pair were set up on a blind date, which Robin later admitted nearly didn’t ever happen, as she tried to cancel several times.
Fortunately, she didn’t and the pair have been each other’s rocks ever since.
Robin was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and five years later she was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and underwent a bone marrow transplant.
Thankfully, in 2022 Amber was able to ring the bell to celebrate the end of her radiation treatment.

Not everyone has an easy journey with work. Sometimes you have a job, you get let go, but then you come back to that job later on. And that also happens to notable celebrity voices like Joy Behar from The View.
In 2013, Behar, who had been a staple on the show since the ’90s, suddenly wasn’t there anymore. At the time, it was painted as her own choice, but it was revealed in a story from PEOPLE in 2017 that Behar did not leave voluntarily. “Somebody wanted me gone,” she said. “It was not 100 percent my choice.” From how Behar spoke about it, it didn’t seem like she was that upset by the choice. “When they told me they weren’t renewing, I said, ‘Good, I’m out of here.’ I didn’t like the way the show was going at that time,” she said.
Since then, she’s talked about her firing a bit. In 2022, she told Time “I was glad to be fired.” She briefly talked about it on The View when an episode talked about Jason Kelce’s retirement from football. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked her fellow hosts if they ever found themselves in a “Now what?” place when leaving a job. While it was an awkward moment because Goldberg was forced to ask the question, Behar did make a point of talking about her friendships.
“He sounds more upset that he’s leaving his friends,” Behar said. “When I leave this show, it will not be because I’m worried about my future. It’ll be because I will miss my friends. That’s basically it.”
Behar is no stranger to being fired
During an episode of The View with Night Court star Melissa Rauch, Behar revealed that she’d been fired from Good Morning America twice. Rauch was talking about a secretary job she was fired from and Goldberg made a joke about Behar being a bad receptionist. Host Sunny Hostin clarified that Behar was fired from GMA and Behar replied “Twice.”
Behar did not explain further. But she did, in November of 2022, talk about one of her firings from GMA with Kumail Nanjiani. “So, let’s talk about ‘Welcome to Chippendales.’ First of all, I’d like to say that when I was fired from Good Morning America years ago — I was the worst receptionist they’ve ever had — and, this is a true story, I was fired, they took me to Chippendales as my goodbye present … so, anyway I’m familiar with Chippendales.”
We do not know why she was fired from GMA the second time.

While George hasn’t shared any details of his whereabouts on social media, it’s likely that he’s taken some time off to spend with his family, ahead of his daughters’ return to college for the fall term.

The doting dad shares Elliott, 21, and Harper, 19, with wife Ali Wentworth, and Ali recently had a message exchange with George’s co-star Lara Spencer concerning a Nashville meetup – where Harper studies.
That’s because Lara’s daughter Katharine attends the same college, Vanderbilt University, as Harper, and they made reference to seeing each other there soon.
George Stephanopoulos was missing from Thursday’s GMA
The Go Ask Ali podcast star had shared a photo of herself “foraging” on Instagram, resulting in Lara writing: “We love to dig for treasure – in the mud, thru flea markets. You name it…….we dig it. Can’t wait to see you in Nash.”
The family are incredibly close and have enjoyed spending quality time together during the summer months. Along with an apartment in New York City, they also have a beautiful house in the Hamptons, where they have spent the majority of the weeks.
On the floor, multiple pairs of shoes were spread out across the floor in the otherwise pristine home.”I guess a few girls slept over,” Ali wrote in the caption.
The photo also gave a glimpse into the property itself, which was decorated beautifully, complete with a side table with a bunch of coffee table books stacked neatly on top of it, and a jar filled with shells. There was also artwork decorating the area.

The house boasts 5 bedrooms, 6 and a half bathrooms, along with a media room, games room and basement, complete with 1,000 bottles of wine.
The garden, meanwhile, also features a swimming pool and tennis courts. The couple previously listed their property for $5.995 million back in February 2018, but decided to take it off the market.
George and Ali have been married since 2002 and they opened up about the beginning of their love story during at a book signing in Sarasota back in 2012.
“I didn’t care about politics, and figured he’d be the last person I’d be interested in,” Ali said. “I was holding out for Hugh Grant or Matthew Perry.”

After agreeing to go on the blind date to please her friend, Ali realised that she had a lot in common with George, even ordering the same meal – a crab salad – and proceeded to talk for hours.George told New York Times: “You know how when you go on a date and the first 15 minutes are on automatic pilot? About 15 minutes in, she just leaned in and said something, and we were suddenly in another place, in another universe, immediately. We went from strangers to friends to being in love in days.”

“I live kind of in hell,” Applegate, 52, told “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts about her battle with MS. She was diagnosed with the disease in 2021.
“I’m not out a lot, so this is, like, a little difficult, just for my system,” Applegate said. “But, yeah, of course, the support is wonderful, and I’m really grateful.”

“I actually kinda blacked out,” Applegate said. “People said, ‘Oh, you were so funny,’ and I’m like, I don’t even know what I said. I don’t know what I was doing. I got so freaked out that I didn’t even know what was happening anymore.”
She continued, “And I felt really beloved, and it was really a beautiful thing.”

Applegate walked onstage at the Emmys with the aid of a cane, an assistance made necessary by MS, an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks myelin, the tissue that surrounds nerves, including those in the brain and spinal cord, according to the National Institutes of Health.
It is an unpredictable disease, one that causes different symptoms with variable timing and frequency in different people, from fatigue, numbness or tingling, weakness, dizziness and vertigo to rendering a person unable to write, speak or walk in the most severe cases, the NIH says.

The average age of the start of symptoms for people with MS is between the ages of 20 to 40, and the disease is three times more common in women than men, according to the NIH and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a nonprofit organization focused on raising MS awareness and increasing research.
Tune into “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, March 12, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET for more of Robin Roberts’ interview with Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
The 66th annual Grammy Awards were last night at the Crypto.com Arena in the not-so-sunny Los Angeles, California. As storms raged outside the arena, I tuned in for close to five hours of red carpet coverage and the sparkling ceremony to watch music’s biggest night and make my own judgments.
At some points agonizing, the Grammys truly take their time. Packing performance after performance, people going well over their speech time, and leaving the main awards for the very end can feel never-ending. However, this year’s Grammy Awards had everything: Taylor Swift announcing a brand new album, Tortured Poet’s Department, Miley Cyrus getting her first two Grammy’s and delivering iconic speeches and performances, nods to Barbie, a visit from Celine Dion and a few controversial decisions.
I mean, even Jay-Z took a shot at the Recording Academy for not giving Beyonce any Album of the Year awards despite having the most nominations. Taylor Swift brought Lana Del Rey on stage while accepting Album of the Year for Midnights to recognize how many artists’ sounds Del Rey’s influenced despite never having won a nomination. The Academy gets it wrong, and often.
Who Won At The 2024 Grammys?
Here are some winners from a few of the main categories, including the top four awards…And may I add that some of my predictions were spot on?
Record of the Year: “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus
Album of the Year: Midnights by Taylor Swift
Song of the Year: “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish and FINNEAS
Best New Artist: Victoria Monet
Producer of the Year: Jack Antonoff
Best Pop Solo Performance: “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus
Best Pop Duo Performance: “Ghost in the Machine” by SZA and Phoebe Bridgers
Best Pop Vocal Album: Midnights by Taylor Swift
Best Pop Dance Recording: “Padam Padam” by Kylie Minogue
Best Rock Performance: “Not Strong Enough” by boygenius
Best Country Album: Bell Bottom Country by Lainey Wilson
Best R&B Song: “Snooze” by SZA
Who Should’ve Won At The 2024 Grammys?
The Grammy Awards are decided by the Academy- a group of voters within the music industry who I sometimes think forget to listen to the music of the nominees. It’s why Jay-Z spoke up while receiving the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, it is quite shocking that Beyonce has never won Album of the Year.
While everyone at the Grammy’s deserves their awards, multiple artists got onstage to say this is not what they make music for. Artists like Miley Cyrus said she felt this happy yesterday because she’s doing it for herself. Taylor Swift thanks her fans, and says she’s happiest when making songs and doing what she loves…but sometimes, the awards gods are fickle.
Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” went home empty-handed, which was another surprise. While GUTS may not be my favorite work of Rodrigo’s, “Vampire” was a chart-topping, viral song that I truly thought would win something. SZA’s SOS album was on top of the Billboard Hot 100 every week but failed to receive a mention in the top categories like Album of the Year.
Lana Del Rey, who’s been nominated upwards of 10 times and wrote one of the best albums in the culmination of her already iconic discography with Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard? Received zero awards throughout the night. In a controversial move, Taylor Swift brought her up on stage so the world can recognize all Lana’s done.
In the Best New Artist category, Ice Spice and Noah Kahan were betting favorites to win…but ultimately, it went to Victoria Monét.
It’s been years since Cyrus has graced any sort of stage, and she didn’t disappoint. Every bit as honest, exciting, and a true rockstar as she’s ever been, Miley Cyrus is one-of-a-kind. From chiding the audience for not singing along to celebrating her first Grammy win during her performance of “Flowers”, you could tell that Miley just wanted to have fun.
She even shared she was doing this performance so she could watch clips of it later…and also admitted to foregoing underwear. It was fun, carefree, and exactly how these award shows should be.
Joni Mitchell
You may wonder how someone with as illustrious a career as Joni Mitchell has never performed at the Grammy’s. Singing a song she wrote at 21 years old, over half a century later, “Both Sides Now” was both moving and refreshing. She’s won nine Grammy’s herself, nominated 18 times, and has inspired the sounds of our favorite artists.
She took folk music and made it her own, and after having to re-learn how to talk (and sing) from a brain aneurysm, no one is more well-respected in the industry than Mitchell.
Luke Combs + Tracy Chapman
Luke Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” dominated the charts this year. One of the most highly covered songs in the world, and Luke Combs put his country spin on it to create a beautiful, acoustic version. It feels almost entirely his own, but his performance with OG Tracy Chapman shows that music is, indeed, art.
The song itself is a timeless classic, with Luke Combs being one of the most talented country vocalists in the game right now and Tracy Chapman reminding us the deep roots of the song.
Other Notable Grammy Moments
It was a crazy night, in all honesty...with too many moments to mention, but there are a few major points to be made:
Killer Mike won three Grammy awards including Best Rap Album, but was immediately arrested at the ceremony
Upon announcing The Tortured Poet's Department, Swifties quickly uncovered a report that ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, Paul Mescal, and Andrew Scott's group chat was once called "Tortured Men's Club" - so count your days, Alwyn.
"Water" singer Tyla won the first-ever Award for African Music Performance

We imagine by now you’ve heard the wild news that Amy Robach and TJ Holmes‘ exes are dating! That’s right, the first thing the former GMA hosts produced after their office romance was discovered wasn’t a new show on NewsNation — it was what seemed like a spite couple! LOLz! It’s the type of couple juggling you’d expect from Melrose Place!
But Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig didn’t have to go track one another down. They were already friends. Yeah, if you didn’t follow Amy and TJ’s story too closely… they weren’t just co-workers, they hung out outside the job! And they brought their spouses along! We’ve heard the couples went on some double dates and enjoyed the occasional dinner together. Little did poor Andrew and Marilee know their S.O.s were about to get SO close!
Now that the pairing is out there, folks are rediscovering the evidence of how long they’ve been friends, thanks to Marilee’s Instagram. Going back a full SEVEN YEARS, you can see the future spurned-exes-turned-lovers taking an innocent selfie at a work event! Marilee wrote:
“Loved hanging out with our GMA family, especially @ajrobach and her hubby, @7_a_e_s_7, who we don’t get to see nearly enough. #andrewshue”

Hilariously, Amy herself commented on this one, writing:

And six months later, they shared this pic with another familiar face from morning TV — Michael Strahan! Marilee wrote:
“Some Fridays are better than others… #fridaynight #friends #gmafamily”

Folks are rediscovering the pics now. Some are even hinting there was something going on between them years back — but let’s not forget they’re the alleged victims here. If the rumors of the months of cheating are true, they’re just halves of a double date that got betrayed — and are making the most of it. If they can find some solace together, isn’t that OK?
What do YOU think about this coupling, Perezcious readers? Let us know in the comments!
Former “GMA3” co-hosts T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach are preparing to break their silence one year after they were embroiled in a very public relationship scandal.
On Wednesday, the journalists announced in a joint Instagram post their new iHeartMedia podcast ― “Amy and T.J.” ― which is set to debut on Dec. 5. The post featured a photo of the two smiling while embracing each other.
“How’s this for Instagram official?” the caption read, with a hashtag ”#silentnomore.”
The upcoming podcast will intend to explore “meaningful conversations about current events, pop culture and everything in between,” a press release stated, adding that “nothing is off limits.”
“Amy and T.J.” will also mark the first time the couple will speak publicly since they became subjects of a media frenzy last year, according to the release.
Robach and Holmes’ romantic relationship was revealed publicly in November 2022 after the Daily Mail published photos of the pair having drinks and staying at a cottage in upstate New York.
Robach and Holmes were both married to other people when their involvement was initially reported. Neither of the former “GMA3” co-hosts have made a public statement about the status of their respective relationships before they got together.
Holmes reached a divorce settlement with attorney Marilee Fiebig last month.

Robach and Holmes have been celebrating their relationship on Instagram in recent weeks.
Last week, Holmes shared a slideshow of photos of him with his former “GMA3” co-host in a stadium watching the football team from his alma mater, the University of Arkansas. One photo showed him hugging Robach from behind.
Robach posted a photo to her Instagram account days prior that showed two seats with “reserved” signs with her and Holmes’ names. The post referenced the mascots for the University of Arkansas, and her alma mater, the University of Georgia.
She added the hashtag, “#truelove” to the caption of the post.
T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach will not return to their positions as co-hosts of the third hour of “Good Morning America,” an ABC News spokesperson confirmed to CBS News Friday.
“After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions.”
Last month, the co-anchors were taken off the air following reports of a possible romantic relationship. At the time, ABC News said the relationship between the two did not violate company policy and planned to work through “what is best for the organization.”
Although ABC News correspondents Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos have filled in for Holmes and Robach in the past, the company has not announced who will replace them.

Robin Roberts and her longtime partner Amber Laign are finally headed down the aisle.
The reporter announced on Good Morning America on Monday that after 18 years together she and her girlfriend have decided that this year they will get married. Roberts told author Gabrielle Bernstein on the news show, “I’m saying yes to marriage. We’re getting married this year.” She added that she had been “hesitating” to share the happy news because she hadn’t “said it out loud yet.” The anchor also revealed that she and Laign had “talked about” having a wedding in the past, but ultimately decided to “put it off” after her partner was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2021. Laign had to suspend her cancer treatment due to “complications with the chemotherapy,” however, she was able to go on and complete her radiation therapy in July 2022. Following her nuptial announcement, Bernstein urged Roberts to “create a wedding vision board,” prompting the journalist to begin fanning herself with her note cards. Roberts joked, “I can’t believe I said that.”
The journalist and Laign first began dating in July 2005, but Roberts did not share her sexual orientation until December 2013. She is also a breast cancer survivor, undergoing a bone marrow transplant in 2012. In a Facebook post at the time documenting her recovery from cancer, Roberts wrote, “I am grateful for my entire family, my longtime girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together. I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold.”
In 2020, the pair celebrated their 15th anniversary together and Laign reminisced on Instagram about the blind date that first brought them together. “15 years ago I met you for drinks on a blind date that both you and I tried to cancel…twice,” the former massage therapist began. “Your grace caught my eye right away and the ease of the evening continued to flow through dinner. We had a second date soon after and I couldn’t believe how at ease I was with you as we shared each other’s lives sipping lychee and apple martinis. You left for Tahiti the following day and during that time apart I grew this feeling inside of me that still, is very present today….butterflies. Having you by my side is a gift as we continue to navigate this thing called life. I drive you crazy….I know which is why I love you even more to this day. You have the kindest heart and most beautiful soul than anyone I know. You have shown me time and time again to stay humble and to always treat others with the utmost respect as you never know what one might be going through ❤ Beautiful…..absolutely beautiful. I love you with all my heart.”
NEW YORK—Saying the hosts’ personal lives had become a distraction that threatened the program’s journalistic integrity, ABC News president Kimberly Godwin announced Friday that all Good Morning America anchors had been castrated. “At GMA, genitals aren’t what’s important—what’s important is reporting the news,” said Godwin, who confirmed that all on-air talent—including T.J. Holmes, Amy Robach, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, and Michael Strahan—had undergone either surgical castration to remove their testicles or chemical castration to reduce their libido, depending on their sex. “I want to be clear that this is not about punishing anyone. It’s about professionalism. To preserve our reputation as a news outlet, we must be 100% certain no GMA anchor ever again has sex outside their marriage.” At press time, Godwin had reportedly responded to the casual flirtation of two correspondents by separating them and moving their desks to opposite sides of the newsroom.
The 45-year-old made the comments during his 2014 audition to be a host for Entertainment Tonight. Back then, Holmes gushed over the concept of marriage.
“Marriage gets a bad rap so many times,” Holmes said at the time with a huge smile on his face. “I’m such a marriage proponent. I want everybody to get married. I think everybody should and I think you’re better off in doing so.”
Holmes and Marilee Fiebig tied the knot in 2010. They welcomed a daughter named Sabine in January 2013. He was previously married to Amy Ferson, with whom he shares daughter Brianna and son Jaiden. They divorced in 2007.
The TV anchor made the 2014 comments a few years into his marriage with Fiebig, a Roc Nation attorney. Holmes would eventually join ABC News as a correspondent and anchor in September 2014, but he now finds himself embroiled in controversy, after it has come to light that he had a years-long affair with a now former GMA producer. The revelation comes just days after news of Holmes’ relationship with Robach broke.
ET has learned this producer also worked with Robach at the time. The producer left GMA in late 2017. ET has reached out to Holmes, the former producer, ABC and GMA for comment. The Daily Mail and Page Six were first to report the affair.
When it comes to Holmes and Robach’s romance, which a source previously told ET that has been “going on in secret for quite some time,” two sources previously told ET that the duo would not face disciplinary action because they are two consenting co-workers, who are equals, in a relationship.
It’s unclear if the same can be said about Holmes’ relationship with the former GMA producer.
As for Holmes and Robach’s respective marriages, sources previously told ET that Robach and her husband, Andrew Shue, as well as Holmes and Fiebig, had split before the new relationship became public knowledge.
Another source tells ET that both Holmes and Robach separated from their spouses in August. What’s more, the source said Robach and Shue had been in mediation already and preparing to announce their split. They sold their New York City apartment in September, so Robach was already moving out. The source adds that Robach and Shue’s divorce should be settled soon.
Holmes’ 2014 comments on marriage also surfaced just days after a two-year-old Facebook post of his dedicated to his estranged wife went viral.
Back in March 2020, Holmes took part in the so-called “10-year challenge” and he gushed over being married to Fiebig and how “despite my best efforts, she remained married to me the past 10 years.”
He added, in part, “That’s not hyperbole. I’m not being dramatic. I gave her plenty of reasons, excuses, and opportunities to walk her fine ass out the doooooooor. But instead, with her built-in black woman superpower, she showed a grace and patience that’s incomprehensible.”
It’s funny how stories can still shock. That feeling of—ah!—surprise hasn’t dissipated or blunted for some of us, despite all the shocking things that have happened, especially all the shocking things that have happened in the last 10 years or so. The pandemic. Government officials partying during the lockdown. Don*ld Tr*mp. El*n M*sk. An airplane just…disappeared. The guy who made deliveries of things a thing is now delivering people to the edge of space. It’s been an outrageous couple of decades. But no matter how many crazy things happen, we retain the capacity for shock.
Best example I’ve got: this Good Morning America thing. You saw the news, right? Truly shocking stuff. Did everyone know that somewhere along the way GMA extended to a third hour every day? It’s called GMA3 (!), and it airs weekdays at 1 p.m. ET. I’m shocked!
We learned about the third hour of daytime television because there were photos published in the Daily Mail that appear to be taken by a private investigator, and they’re of the third hour’s hosts, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, canoodling all over the place—upstate New York, in Times Square—despite both being married to other people.
Robach is married to Andrew Shue, formerly of Melrose Place, and Holmes is married to Marilee Holmes, immigration lawyer handling modeling visas. (Vanity Fair has reached out to GMA3 for comment on the situation involving its hosts, and neither have offered a statement to any outlet.) So it doesn’t exactly appear to be a victimless situation. We all suffered from not knowing there’s a third hour of Good Morning America, and now we know about it and can tune in. Silver linings are everywhere. You just have to look.
The Mail and its tabloid cohorts have been very quick to package and promote the story according to the familiar beats, even if, if you’ll allow us to put on our media-criticism hat here a second: there is a third hour of GMA? Page Six even reported that the show’s runners were considering letting this lightning out of the bottle. “While producers had been freaking out and having meetings about whether it was right to put them back on air again together, they showed up as a couple and said they were ready and totally fine to go on air,” Page Six’s anonymous source claims. “Their attitude seems to be that they are both separated, and now they are together, so there’s nothing to hide.” Then came word from People that actually the pair have been “dating in the open” after they separated from their respective spouses back in August.
It’s giving Joe and Mika, if Joe and Mika were on the niche third hour of Good Morning America. Now, there’s one detail from the story that is totally understandable. Fully plausible. Absolutely expected. The Daily Mail reports (though an anonymous source disputes it) they started their alleged dalliance while overseas reporting on the Queen’s Jubilee—an assignment steeped in the heady brew of exotic locale and first-wave romanticism that’s historically produced the kind of passionate journalistic affairs they used to make movies about. There’s nothing shocking about that.
