  • Why Gerard Bulter’s Plane Sequel Ship Got Canceled

    [ad_1]

Gerard Butler‘s Plane received a positive critical and commercial response when it premiered in 2023, but the sequel to the film has reportedly been shelved. According to star Mike Colter, who played Louis Gaspare in the movie, a sequel titled Ship was in development but has now been officially canceled. Here is why.

Here’s why Plane’s sequel movie Ship got canceled

In 2023, it was confirmed that a sequel to Plane would be developed. Titled Ship, it was expected to focus on a new event. However, there has been no update on the project since then.

Mike Colter has now revealed what happened to the planned sequel in a new interview with The Direct. Colter confirmed that the film was canceled just two weeks before its scheduled production date. According to him, the project fell apart after Gerard Butler decided not to move forward with it.

“It just, last-minute, Gerard [Butler] decided he didn’t want to go forward with it, and there wasn’t a lot of discussion about it. He just… two weeks out, he pulled out, and we were sort of left trying to figure out what to do. And eventually, that dissolved,” Colter told The Direct.

Butler was not set to lead the sequel, but he was a producer on the project. This meant he had a say in whether the film would move forward. “The script. Basically, picking up where we left off, what happened to that character, and how’d he get off the island. That was where we were gonna go with it. So, I was excited about it,” Colter added, explaining that the sequel would have focused heavily on his character, Louis.

The ending of Plane left Louis’ fate open after he and Brodie were separated following the chaotic conclusion.

As of now, there are no reported plans to revive the sequel.

Thirsty Suitors is a cross between Scott Pilgrim’s battles with evil exes, stylish arcade skateboarding, and cooking segments all portrayed through a South Asian cultural lens. Outerloop Games’ RPG stars Jala as she returns to an old town with old flames, and frames their reconciliation through turn-based battles where the simple act of talking to each other is pumped up to ridiculous levels. There’s even a stage in which Jala enters a dream world where her exes appear as powerful, distorted versions of their own self-concept. Think Persona 5 but with fewer criminals. Jala explores her old town on a skateboard (more Jet Set Radio than Tony Hawk), and when she’s home with her family, she cooks with her mother in over-the-top, campy fashion. Thirsty Suitors portrays all of its storylines in this way, but there’s a grounded humanity at its core that will be exciting to see when the game launches on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
