    The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 29-year-old man after three adult males were found shot to death in a residential subdivision near Kissimmee on Saturday.Deputies responded to a shooting at 12:13 p.m. in the Indian Point Subdivision, where they found the three victims in front of a residence.Authorities quickly located and arrested Ahmad Jihad Bojeh, who has been booked into the Osceola County jail on three counts of murder.The sheriff’s office was still processing the scene and possibly speaking with witnesses late Saturday night about the events that unfolded shortly after noon. “There is no threat to the community, as a suspect of these horrific and senseless murders has been caught and arrested by Osceola County deputies,” Sheriff Christopher Blackmon said.A neighbor, Adam Andersen, expressed his concerns, saying, “It’s a little concerning. I have a daughter, thank God she’s not here. It’s concerning, especially that this individual was shot publicly in an open area like a gas station over a simple thing as an argument and was released. The reunion happened in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Aloka briefly appeared in front of supporters during the group’s lunch stop. He appeared to be in good spirits.   • Stephen A. Smith doubles down on calling ICE shooting in Minneapolis ‘completely justified’

    Stephen A. Smith is arguably the most-well known sports commentator in the country. But the outspoken ESPN commentator’s perspective outside the sports arena has landed him in a firestorm.

    The furor is due to his pointed comments defending an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot a Minneapolis woman driving away from him.

    Just hours after the shooting on Wednesday, Smith said on his SiriusXM “Straight Shooter” talk show that although the killing of Renee Nicole Good was “completely unnecessary,” he added that the agent “from a lawful perspective” was “completely justified” in firing his gun at her.

    He also noted, “From a humanitarian perspective, however, why did he have to do that?”

    Smith’s comments about the agent being in harm’s way echoed the views of Deputy of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who said Good engaged in an “act of domestic terrorism” by attacking officers and attempting to run them over with her vehicle.

    However, videos showing the incident from different angles indicate that the agent was not standing directly in front of Good’s vehicle when he opened fire on her. Local officials contend that Good posed no danger to ICE officers. A video posted by partisan media outlet Alpha News showed Good talking to agents before the shooting, saying, “I’m not mad at you.”

    The shooting has sparked major protests and accusations from local officials that the presence of ICE has been disruptive and escalated violence. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frye condemned ICE, telling agents to “get the f— out of our city.”

    The incident, in turn, has put a harsher spotlight on Smith, raising questions on whether he was reckless or irresponsible in offering his views on Good’s shooting when he had no direct knowledge of what had transpired.

    An angered Smith appeared on his “Straight Shooter” show on YouTube on Friday, saying the full context of his comments had not been conveyed in media reports, specifically calling out the New York Post and media personality Keith Olbermann, while saying that people were trying to get him fired.

    He also doubled down on his contention that Good provoked the situation that led to her death, saying the ICE agent was in front of Good’s car and would have been run over had he not stepped out of the way.

    “In the moment when you are dealing with law enforcement officials, you obey their orders so you can get home safely,” he said. “Renee Good did not do that.”

    When reached for comment about his statements, a representative for Smith said his response was in Friday’s show.

    It’s not the first time Smith, who has suggested he’s interesting in going into politics, has sparked outside the sports universe. He and journalist Joy Reid publicly quarreled following her exit last year from MSNBC.

    He also faced backlash from Black media personalities and others when he accused Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas of using “street verbiage” in her frequent criticisms of President Trump.

    “The way that Jasmine Crockett chooses to express herself … Aren’t you there to try and get stuff done instead of just being an impediment? ‘I’m just going to go off about Trump, cuss him out every chance I get, say the most derogatory things imaginable, and that’s my day’s work?’ That ain’t work! Work is, this is the man in power. I know what his agenda is. Maybe I try to work with this man. I might get something out of it for my constituents.’ ”

    Florida Highway Patrol arrested a Lake County man on charges of DUI manslaughter after two people were killed in a crash Friday night.Seenarine Hardeo, 50, of Groveland, is facing two counts of DUI manslaughter, a second-degree felony, after a crash that happened around 7 p.m. on State Road 33 in Lake County.Troopers said a 2009 Mini Cooper driven by Hardeo northbound on SR-33 traveled into the southbound lane and collided with a semi-truck north of Swamp Drive. The impact caused the semi-truck to veer into the northbound lanes and into the path of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The front of the semi-truck collided with the front left of the Chevy pickup, causing both vehicles to run off the roadway and the semi-truck to overturn.The semi-truck’s driver was transported to South Lake Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.FHP said the Chevy’s driver, a 22-year-old Frostproof man, and his passenger, an 18-year-old Tallahassee woman, were pronounced dead at the scene.Lake County court records show that Hardeo pleaded no contest to charges of felony DUI and driving with a suspended license in 2007.   • Fight leads to stabbing, leaves 1 teenager dead, another injured, Tracy police say

    A teenager died and another was injured after a reported fight, the Tracy Police Department announced on Tuesday.Officers after 6:35 p.m. Monday went to a neighborhood on Tahoe Circle off of Tracy Boulevard, south of West Schulte Road, for a report of a fight in progress in front of a home, police said. While dispatchers were getting more information, the police department got a report that someone involved in the fight was stabbed.Police said officers who went to the area found two minors with injuries and several others who were involved in the fight. Both teenagers were taken to the hospital, but one of them died of his injuries while receiving treatment.Tracy police told KCRA 3 that those involved in the fight ranged in age from 15 to 16 years old.”There were about six individuals involved,” said Kaylin Heefner, a police spokesperson. “Right now, our investigators have identified a potential suspect.”KCRA was in the neighborhood Tuesday evening and noticed detectives were going door to door investigating, with a trail of dried blood still visible on the roadway where the stabbing took place.Fernando Sasco expressed his sadness after learning about the incident that occurred just feet from his home. “It’s sad. It’s sad,” he said.Sasco has lived in the neighborhood for 33 years.”Never has something like this happened,” he said. “And I hope nothing happens like this again.”Details were not released on what led to the fight, but the police department said the stabbing is believed to have been an isolated attack with no threat to the greater Tracy community.Officials said the deadly stabbing was the city of Tracy’s first homicide of the year.     TRACY, Calif. —

    A teenager died and another was injured after a reported fight, the Tracy Police Department announced on Tuesday.

    Officers after 6:35 p.m. Monday went to a neighborhood on Tahoe Circle off of Tracy Boulevard, south of West Schulte Road, for a report of a fight in progress in front of a home, police said. While dispatchers were getting more information, the police department got a report that someone involved in the fight was stabbed.

    Police said officers who went to the area found two minors with injuries and several others who were involved in the fight. Both teenagers were taken to the hospital, but one of them died of his injuries while receiving treatment.

    Tracy police told KCRA 3 that those involved in the fight ranged in age from 15 to 16 years old.

    “There were about six individuals involved,” said Kaylin Heefner, a police spokesperson. “Right now, our investigators have identified a potential suspect.”

    KCRA was in the neighborhood Tuesday evening and noticed detectives were going door to door investigating, with a trail of dried blood still visible on the roadway where the stabbing took place.

    Fernando Sasco expressed his sadness after learning about the incident that occurred just feet from his home.

    “It’s sad. It’s sad,” he said.

    Sasco has lived in the neighborhood for 33 years.

    “Never has something like this happened,” he said. “And I hope nothing happens like this again.”

    Details were not released on what led to the fight, but the police department said the stabbing is believed to have been an isolated attack with no threat to the greater Tracy community.

    Officials said the deadly stabbing was the city of Tracy’s first homicide of the year.

    A gun once registered to Christopher Dorner — the notorious former L.A. cop who killed four people including two law officers — was found in the L.A. Airbnb of a pair of alleged “crime tourists,” federal prosecutors say.

    The two South American nationals are accused of stealing a $1-million watch at gunpoint last week on the patio of the Beverly Wilshire hotel.

    Did they use Dorner’s gun to carry out the alleged crime?

    Assistant U.S. Atty. Jena MacCabe would not confirm the weapon was used in the alleged robbery, KCAL reported, but an affidavit says it was the only weapon found in connection with the arrests.

    “We’re still trying to figure it out,” MacCabe said.

    Prosecutors say the suspects held up the victim in front of his wife and twin 5-year-old daughters at the high-end Beverly Hills hotel. One held a gun while the other took off the man’s luxury watch, a Patek Philippe, then fled in a car with a stolen plate, the affidavit says.

    Street cameras near the Beverly Wilshire captured the Aug. 7 armed robbery of a man in front of his family.

    Jamer Mauricio Sepulveda Salazar, 21, of Colombia, is charged with two felony counts related to the armed robbery. Nineteen-year-old Jesus Eduardo Padron Rojas, of Venezuela, is charged with felony conspiracy to commit robbery.

    Sepulveda said the crew had been doing surveillance for two weeks in an effort to steal a Patek Phillipe watch, the complaint says, and both men admitted their involvement in stealing a $30,000 Rolex in Beverly Hills two days before the $1-million watch theft.

    Investigators found a handgun in Padron’s pillowcase at the suspects’ Airbnb on Browning Boulevard in Los Angeles. The gun was registered to Dorner, a former officer who targeted LAPD officers who he felt had wronged him.

    Over nine days in 2013, Dorner killed four people — two police officers, the daughter of a former LAPD captain and her fiancé — and injured three others. He died in a cabin in Big Bear that went up in flames after a shootout with authorities.

    MacCabe said investigators were “trying to figure out how this gun from so long ago, somehow came into their possession and was tied up in this violent armed robbery series.”

    Walk past the street-facing 1990s duplex and beyond a 1920s Sears Roebuck kit bungalow, and an accessory dwelling unit, or ADU, rises before you at the end of the property. It’s a slim, two-story rental clad in inexpensive white vertical corrugated metal.

    Only then do you realize this single Venice lot has four rental units.

    With Southern California in desperate need of housing and state and federal laws constantly evolving to make permitting ADUs easier, the detached home by architects Todd Lynch and Mohamed Sharif of Sharif, Lynch: Architecture feels like a harbinger of what’s to come.

    “When the city encouraged us to increase housing, I thought of the Venice property,” said owner Ricki Alon, who had previously worked with the architects and builder Moshon Elgrably on another project. “Given the unique site constraints, I didn’t believe they could do it. I was worried it would be too crowded and negatively affect the small guest house.”

    The two-bedroom ADU was built five feet from an existing duplex and four feet from the property line.

    Alon was hesitant at first, but after a persuasive Zoom call with the architects, they all agreed that a fourth unit would add value to the bustling community.

    “We viewed it as a challenge and a way to transcend ADUs in an SB9 world,” Sharif said, referring to Senate Bill 9, the 2022 state law that allows homeowners to convert their homes into duplexes on a single-family parcel or divide the lot in half to build another duplex for no more than four units.

    Alon loved their initial sketches despite her skepticism, and the project moved ahead.

    “We decided to go as high as possible,” Sharif said of the eventual design, a slim, two-story ADU built on what was previously a driveway. Slipped into the lot, the 1,200-square-foot ADU, or IDU as the architects like to refer to the infill dwelling unit, was built an inch from the 1920s bungalow, five feet from the duplex and four feet from the property line.

    Resting a few feet from a dingbat apartment to the south, the ADU is lifted off the ground to preserve two parking spots in the alley and a swimming pool in front. “Its entire width is dictated by that two-car side-by-side dimension,” said Sharif, who teaches in the undergraduate and graduate design studios at UCLA. Lifting the volume to preserve the pool also created shade and an open space that all residents could share.

    “They refused to get rid of it,” Alon said of the water feature. “They insisted on building around it.” Today she admits it was the right decision. “Now, when you walk in, you experience a wonderful, absolutely lovely environment. I’m glad they did not listen to me,” she added with a laugh.

    Even though you can’t see the rental from the street, the ADU has enormous curb appeal and a touch of glamour. A Midcentury-style Sputnik pendant light hangs outside the front door, giving it an elegant feel, and the white cladding gives it a distinctive quality from the other rentals, which are clad in orange metal and gray siding.

    Up a short flight of stairs, the front door opens to the ground floor and the two-story entry, which features a compact first-floor bedroom, study and en-suite bathroom.

    “We wanted every room to have a bathroom to suit roommates,” Sharif said.

    Tenant Henry Schober III, a 38-year-old attorney specializing in data privacy, uses the ground floor as his office and a bedroom for out-of-town guests.

    “It’s a place that I’m comfortable spending a workday in,” said Schober, who goes to the office once or twice a week. “I don’t feel like I’m trapped in my house.”

    Up the stairs to the second floor, the main living area and kitchen measure just 13 feet wide; large windows and operable skylights add light and cross-ventilation throughout the linear floor plan.

    “The windows make you feel like you’re in an amazing penthouse in SoHo,” Alon said. “It gives the room a great energy.”

    The rest of the second floor houses a powder room, bathroom and bedroom. Because of limited space, there was no room for a formal dining room. However, Schober said that’s easier to maneuver than the limited storage, which has taught him to think differently about how he stores and displays things.

    “I eat at the long breakfast bar, and when I have people over, I use the common space or the roof deck,” he said.

    The home’s two floors feel like three, Lynch said, “because of the way the stairway draws one upward through the IDU and then because of how the roof steps up again.”

    The roof deck serves as another outdoor room, further expanding the living space. From the rooftop deck, Schober has panoramic views of Venice, not to mention ample room for a dining table, barbecue and sauna.

    After renting an apartment temporarily a few blocks from the beach, Schober was still determining whether he wanted to rent another apartment in Venice.

    “It originally turned me off to Venice,” he said. “The price points were so high. It felt like people were paying for the ZIP Code. Landlords were asking five grand for an apartment next to a parking lot.”

    But when he saw the two-bedroom ADU, he changed his mind. “When I walked in, I thought, ‘I’m going to live here,’” said Schober, who is originally from Philadelphia and moved to Los Angeles from Switzerland.

    “The apartment and the secluded feel changed my attitude,” Schober said. “You get the convenience of Venice and access to all the restaurants and shops, but you’re not in the thick of things. I lived in San Francisco for a decade, Europe for six years. I view the apartment as an oasis in a neighborhood that is not as transformed as others.”

    Schober said the strength of the architects’ vision is that the unit is quietly tucked away in a congested neighborhood. “Since you are set back from the street, there is no foot traffic,” he added. “It doesn’t feel like I am living among a bunch of units. There is little street noise, and you would never know you live a stone’s throw from Lincoln Boulevard.”

    Perhaps most impressive, the ADU defies the notion that you can’t have parking, privacy and quality of living, including a swimming pool, on a tight infill lot with other properties.

    In a sense, Schober said, “It seems the solution to the housing crisis is building up.”

    “There is a community feeling, and people know each other,” Sharif said. “They sit around the pool, and it’s very intimate and private.”

    After a 10-month building process, the team completed the project this spring at a cost of approximately $410 per square foot.

    Looking back, Alon is grateful that she moved forward with the project.

    “It’s not just a unit that brings value to the property,” she said. “It enhances the entire property for everyone. Adding housing in this condensed community is important, but this team made it something beautiful that people will enjoy. You don’t have to add a huge amount of square footage to add quality of living.”

    Danny Elfman is accused of sexual assault by a second woman, alleging abuse when she was a young composer

    A second woman has accused Danny Elfman of sexual assault, alleging in a lawsuit filed this week that the composer abused her while she was a young, aspiring film composer.

    The suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday and obtained by The Times, accuses Elfman of using “his clear power as a successful public figure in the film and music industry, as a form of control,” during the alleged instances of sexual abuse, such as exposing his genitals to her and masturbating in front of her while she slept. The events allegedly took place between 1997 and 2002. Elfman’s company, Musica de la Muerte, was also named as a defendant in the complaint, which demanded a jury trial.

    The woman, identified in the complaint only as Jane Doe XX, said she was inspired to come forward with her allegations after reading a Rolling Stone report from July. The report brought to light prior accusations from Nomi Abadi, a 35-year-old musician and composer, who alleged Elfman had assaulted her between 2015 and 2016.

    Elfman did not immediately respond to The Times’ requests for comment but has denied allegations from both women in statements provided to other outlets.

    “The allegations of misconduct made against Mr. Elfman are baseless and absurd,” a spokesman for Elfman told the Hollywood Reporter. “His legal team is assessing all options and he will vigorously defend these claims in court.”

    Jane Doe XX was a 21-year-old film student at the New York Film Academy when she first met Elfman, who at the time was 47, in 1997 at the home of a mutual friend. By then, Elfman had already led a storied career, having found prominence as the leader of the popular new wave band Oingo Boingo and composed film scores for Tim Burton classics “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” He also composed the iconic, enduring theme song for long-running animated sitcom “The Simpsons.”

    Elfman and Doe immediately connected over their shared interest in film and music, the complaint said. She was eager to get help to “make it” in the music and film industry. Over the next several years, their relationship grew and Elfman began to treat the woman as a “consultant and protégé,” and would often ask her for input when scoring films such as 1999’s “The Mummy,” according to court documents. He also would invite Doe out to Hollywood outings, such as cast-and-crew events for “Good Will Hunting.” She would later view these instances as “grooming” and emotional manipulation in order to “sexually abuse and exploit” her, the suit said.

    During one of her visits with Elfman, as the pair were spending time in the Oscar-nominated composer’s hotel room at the Mercer Hotel in New York, the complaint alleges that Elfman had suddenly taken off his clothes and exposed his genitals in front of Doe. He then walked over to a window where he stood naked and asked Doe to take off her clothes and join him, the suit said. She complied but felt uncomfortable being naked in front of Elfman and put her clothes back on, while he remained nude in front of the window for another five minutes, according to the suit.

    The next time the pair saw each other, Elfman stripped nude and started taking a bath, Doe alleges in the suit. He allegedly asked her to join him and watch him bathe. Each time the two worked with each other afterward, the lawsuit said that Elfman would strip naked in front of Doe, saying it was “the only way he could work, be creative, and successful.” In one other instance, Doe alleged in the lawsuit that Elfman had “coerced her” to also strip naked, to which she agreed.

    Doe said in the court document that she was uncomfortable but did not speak up for fear of losing her relationship with Elfman, referring to him as “a mentor and a friend,” adding that she felt “very lucky” to be in this position. The lawsuit described the “imbalance of power” between them as playing a factor in her silence and compliance to Elfman’s demands.

    When Doe would visit Elfman in his hotel rooms, or at his home in Topanga, where she stayed with him for several weeks as she prepared to move from New York to Los Angeles, the pair would sleep together in the same bed. Still, Doe would remain fully clothed and often would remain above the covers, the complaint said.

    However, sometime in 2002, Elfman revealed to her, “Every time you have ever slept next to me, I would masturbate next to you,” the lawsuit alleged. He further explained that a part of his fetish was that she had to be asleep; Doe said in the complaint that she did not consent to this act. She also wondered whether Elfman had physically touched her during those instances. Doe said in the court filing that she ended her friendship with Elfman after that revelation.

    For years, Doe never reported the alleged abuse after sharing the incidents with her colleagues, who told her there was no point in speaking up because of “who he is” in the industry. In July 2023, Doe read a Rolling Stone exposé that included accusations that Elfman allegedly exposed himself to Abadi and masturbated in front of her without her consent on several occasions. The report included descriptions that mirrored Doe’s own alleged experiences. She said she realized she wasn’t alone and filed the suit, she said in the complaint.

    The allegations surfaced after Abadi sued Elfman in July, accusing him of not paying out a full settlement as part of a nondisclosure agreement between them.

    The July lawsuit against Elfman said the composer had failed to pay Abadi $85,000 of a total of $830,000 to settle an “underlying dispute.” The suit, which was reviewed by The Times, did not specify what the dispute related to. The Rolling Stone report cited a 2017 police report in which Abadi alleged Elfman had sexually assaulted her several times between 2015 and 2016, and had allegedly leveraged his power and exploited Abadi’s desire to further her career in the music and film industry.

    Doe’s complaint said Elfman and his company had engaged in “coverups” of the alleged sexual assaults of both women.
