    I spent the last year living in Paris, and every time I’m back in the U.S., I’m always asked about French beauty secrets. The term “French beauty” gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean? To me, it means natural and effortless—looking like you just rolled out of bed, threw on some mascara, and left to grab a morning coffee. It’s less makeup and more skincare. It’s all about using multi-purpose beauty products that serve an aesthetic function while also strengthening the skin, hair, and nails. 

    Even though I tend to take a more maximalist approach to my beauty routine, I’ve learned a thing or two over the past few months, both through stealth observation and conversations with French women. And lately, I’ve even started merging bits and pieces of the French beauty philosophy with my own. It all started with some tried-and-true beauty products. For years, I followed her on social media to gain inspiration and product recommendations. 

    In 2021, Violette launched a namesake beauty brand. As you can imagine, I was excited. I mean, who wouldn’t want to use products formulated by one of their favorite makeup artists?     Pia Moubayed is a content strategist and creator also based in Paris. Yet since I’ve turned 25, I’ve started noticing early aging symptoms on my face and chest! So I have backtracked 100% and started using sunscreen on a daily basis summer through winter. I’ve understood that the slower the tanning process is, the longer it will last,” says Moubayed.

    She also took the time to describe how French beauty has influenced skincare trends, highlighting cultural perceptions as the main driving force behind the reputation of French women as trendsetters as they’re known, “for their all-natural and self-care based approach to skincare.”
