Fremont police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 3-year-old girl whose father died Friday.
Ellie Lorenzo is described as Black, about 3 feet tall and weighing about 60 pounds, police said. She has black hair and brown eyes.
The child was last seen about 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Casa Arroyo Apartments on Rancho Arroyo Parkway in Fremont, police said.

Ellie was under the custody of her father, a Fremont man who died Friday, police said.

A grieving San Jose family is demanding answers after their 11-year-old daughter drowned in an East Bay creek.
Danna Niño drowned at the Niles Staging Area of Alameda Creek in Fremont on Memorial Day.
Danna dove in the water, but she never came back up. The family said a whirlpool is what sucked her in.
The fire department said police officers dove in, trying to rescue Danna, but they couldn’t get to her.
There are signs all over the creek bed warning people not to go into the waterway. But Danna’s family said the area was packed a week ago with people using a large hole in the fence to go enjoy the water.
Danna’s mother said there should be floating markers in the water to warn people about the danger.
NBC Bay Area contacted the East Bay Regional Park District to talk about the drowning and Alameda County to discuss the possible reasons for a whirlpool in the area where Danna went under but did not immediately hear back.
The family said they want to prevent another tragedy, so they returned to the area on Sunday to warn families.

SEATTLE – A $5.8M floating home with a basement in Fremont is currently on the market, and if it sells at that price, it’ll be the second-highest floating home to sell in Seattle, according to Jay Kipp, a managing broker with Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty.
The two-bedroom, three-bathroom home stands at 2,486 square feet and comes with 270-degree views, along with a basement that’s currently structured as a utility room.
“Basements are no longer permitted in new construction floating homes,” Kipp said. “The regulations are quite strict of course, we have salmon and whales in our waterways, so environmental regulation takes priority.”
In addition to those regulations though, he adds, some of the shoreline is just too shallow.
“So those floating homes that do have basements are traditionally end of dock or second to end of dock with wonderful exposure,” Kipp said.
The home also comes complete with a rooftop deck, kitchen, master bedroom, and even a fireman’s pole. While it’s watered in luxury, the concept of floating homes has evolved significantly over the years.
“Originally, the floating home communities were, I don’t want to say low income, but it wasn’t the superior housing of the day. Today, with the scarcity of waterfront, access to all the wonderful water that we have here in Seattle, Puget Sound, the lifestyle component has led to a dramatic change in the appeal of water living,” Kipp said.
He adds, floating homes are just one aspect of the current housing market, but it’s a very Seattle-specific part.

He told FOX 13 he has two floating home listings on the market. The other listing is the largest floating home on Lake Union and stands at more than 4,000 square feet, but it’s less in price and listed at $3.9M because it’s a leased moorage. Kipp says the highest priced floating home to sell to date was $6.25M in Eastlake.
A Fremont business owner was sentenced to 10 months in prison last week after he pleaded guilty to running a scheme to underreport his income by almost $4.5 million, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Milpitas resident Cuong Chi Quan, also known as Roger Quan, was charged last year with one count of willfully aiding and assisting in the preparation of a false tax return and one count of willfully violating foreign bank account reporting requirements. Quan pleaded guilty to both counts in April 2023, according to a news release from federal prosecutors.
Quan owned and managed a company, called QXQ, Inc., that manufactured circuit board test fixtures. He separated his bookkeeping files into two sets, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. One set of books recorded sales to customers in the U.S. and all of the company’s expenses. The second set of books recorded sales to customers in Asia. He only provided his income tax preparer with the bookkeeping files that recorded the company’s sales in the U.S. and all of its expenses.
Quan also told his customers in Asia to wire their payments to company bank accounts in New Zealand, according to Quan’s plea deal. He did not provide his income tax preparer with his sales to customers in Asia or the statements from his personal and company’s foreign bank accounts.
In 2017, he omitted more than $4 million from his income statement, allowing him to avoid paying almost $1.8 million in income taxes. Quan also had at least 11 foreign bank accounts and did not report their existence or the interest earned to his tax return preparer.
The court imposed a restitution to the Internal Revenue Service of almost $8.2 million for Quan’s underreported federal income tax from 2014 to 2018. Quan must also pay a fine of $35,000 and will receive a 3-year term of supervised release.
A minor earthquake shook Fremont and portions of Alameda County Thursday morning.
The 3.2 magnitude quake struck at 9:35 a.m. at the northern end of the Mission Peak Regional Preserve just east of Ohlone College, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A portion of Niles Canyon Road/State Road 84 between Sunol and Fremont was shut down because of a partial collapse of the roadway, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
The CHP Dublin office posted a photo of the road collapse on social media just before 7 a.m., which it said has closed eastbound Niles Canyon Road indefinitely.

Several employees at a Tesla facility in Buffalo, New York, have been fired the day after they announced a union drive, according to Tesla Workers United.
The group said in a statement on Thursday that workers received an email around 7 p.m. on Wednesday updating them on a new policy that prohibits them from recording workplace meetings without all participants’ permission. TWU said that the policy violates federal labor law and flouts New York’s one-party consent law to record conversations.
“I feel blindsided, I got COVID and was out of the office, then I had to take a bereavement leave. I returned to work, was told I was exceeding expectations and then Wednesday came along,” organizing committee member Arian Berek, who is one of the fired employees, said in a statement. “I strongly feel this is in retaliation to the committee announcement, and it’s shameful.”
The Tesla gigafactory, which makes solar panels and other renewable energy technology, is not far away from a Starbucks location where workers voted to unionize last year.
TWU said that “dozens” of workers were fired. The group called the dismissals unacceptable, and said that the expectations of Tesla workers are “unfair, unattainable, ambiguous and ever-changing.”

Complaint filed
The Rochester Regional Joint Board of Workers United has filed a complaint against Tesla with the National Labor Relations Board, accusing the electric vehicle maker of unfair labor practices.
In the complaint, the group lists the names of several employees who were part of the factory’s autopilot department, who were fired. The group said it believes Tesla “terminated these individuals in retaliation for union activity and to discourage union activity.” It is asking the NLRB for injunctive relief “to prevent irreparable destruction of employee rights resulting from Tesla’s unlawful conduct.”
As part of union organizing efforts, the Tesla Workers United organizing committee said in a letter to management Tuesday that employees are seeking a voice on the job at the plant in Buffalo and want to “build an even more collaborative environment that will strengthen the company.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken a hard line against organized labor, despite an invitation to the United Auto Workers union to hold an organizing vote at Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California.
In 2021, Tesla was ordered by the National Labor Relations Board to make Musk delete a 2018 tweet in which the board said Musk unlawfully threatened to take away employees’ stock options if they chose to be represented by the UAW. (The tweet remains on the platform.) Musk has also referred to unions as “just another corporation.”

An email was sent to Tesla seeking comment, but bounced back as undeliverable. It has been widely reported that Tesla has disbanded its media relations team.
FREMONT, Mich. – A family from Fremont, Michigan has been missing for five days following “paranoid” behavior from the father.
Fremont is in Newaygo County, north of Grand Rapids. The Fremont Police Department put out an alert for the missing family on Wednesday night.
Police said the Cirigliano family is “very concerned” about their missing family members Anthony (Tony), 51, Suzette, 51, Brandon, 19, and Noah, 15. Other family last had contact with them on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022.
Suzette Cirigliano’s mother, who has dementia and needs full-time care, was found walking around the neighborhood around 9 p.m. on Monday, according to News 8. Neighbors called police and that’s when the search for the family began.
According to the report, the home’s doors were locked and the family’s minivan, a 2005 Toyota Sienna with the license plate DJL1982, was missing. Pets were left at the home.

Relatives told News 8 that Suzette Cirigliano’s cell phone was still in the house, but Tony Cirigliano’s cell phone is missing. Police said the family’s phones were off.
Brandon and Noah both have autism, according to police. The two sons were homeschooled and the family kept to themselves, relatives told News 8.

Police told News 8 that Tony Cirigliano was “exhibiting some signs of paranoia” before the family vanished.
Tony Cirigliano called 911 just after midnight on Sunday and two officers went to his home.
“Tony was talking about issues or information that he had regarding the Sept. 11 attacks. But, really, what my officers were spending a great deal of time doing was talking to everyone making sure everybody was safe and trying to make sure that mental illness wasn’t putting anybody in jeopardy,” Fremont Police Chief Tim Rodwell told News 8.
According to the report, officers spent around 45 minutes to an hour talking to Tony Cirigliano and his wife. Family told News 8 that they do not believe Tony Cirigliano would hurt his family, and believe that he may be trying to protect him.
They said he was troubled over the weekend and believed “bad things” were going to happen.

Family is concerned: ‘We definitely just want to let him know there’s nothing to be scared of’
Tony’s brother, Paul Cirigliano, told Local 4 it’s unlike them to be out of touch.
“They usually wouldn’t even go so far as like Walmart without letting somebody know, so it’s very unlike them,” said Paul Cirigliano. “It’s certainly not an abrupt vacation by any means.”
Paul Cirigliano found the 911 call made by his brother concerning.
“We think maybe he might be having mental health sort of issue, and maybe he’s scared of something, but we definitely just want to let him know there’s nothing to be scared of, and he can reach out, and we’ll help him,” Paul Cirigliano said.

Family stopped at UP gas station Monday, report says
The family was seen at the Blaney Park Quik Stop on US-2 near M-77, northeast of Manistique and about 70 miles west of the Mackinac Bridge. News 8 said the Fremont Police Department says surveillance video confirmed it was the Ciriglianos.
News 8 spoke to the gas station manager, Heidi Bowler, who told them the mother and two sons came into the gas station to use the restroom. One of the sons asked to use a phone to make a call, but didn’t know how to use it.
“He was acting a little strange, so we were just watching him,” Bowler told News 8. “The only reason we paid attention to them is because the boys were a little different. I thought, ‘I wonder what’s wrong. Like, why is he using the phone? No one else is asking.’ It was just a little odd.”
According to the report, the family was only there for about 15 minutes. Police said they got gas and purchased some food.
Bowler said she was scrolling through Facebook when she saw a post about the missing family.
“I looked at it and I thought, ‘Oh my God, that lady looks very familiar,’ and then once I looked at the boys, I was like, ‘Wow, they look familiar, too,’” she told News 8.
She decided to watch the surveillance footage, checked the license plate and was sure it was them. She did contact the police.
Police continue searching for family
Police do not know if the family is still in Michigan, somewhere in the Midwest or somewhere else. They hope the family will see news reports and contact police or their family.

– On March 18, 2018, Brain-O-Magic hosted its fourth Annual Day, a mental arithmetic competition and graduation ceremony in Fremont, California.
Approximately 300 students participated in the event, rising to the challenge to answer complex math problems with ease and mental dexterity, rivaling that of any child prodigy. Attendees could see little hands and tiny fingers working their magic while answering 200 questions in 15 minutes or less. Despite challenging questions, the children forged ahead relentlessly. The event included proud parents, teachers and an array of blue caps and gowns, as it was also a graduation ceremony for Brain-O-Magic students who have completed 10 levels of the program.
