Sure, it’s still Vegas… and it’s still Fremont… and it’s New Year’s Eve. But this year’s event under the canopy will feature a roster of names that may not draw the same buzz as in past years. Still, it’s worth checking out the schedule just to see what’s up.

    The announced performers include Robin Thicke, CeeLo Green, Common Kings, Chingy, Pertinence and Sammy Johnson. Tickets are priced at $60. The schedule across three outdoor stages is slated as follows: on the 3rd Street Stage — live DJ at 7:00 p.m., CeeLo Green at 9:15 p.m., Robin Thicke at 11:30 p.m.; on the 1st Street Stage — DJ at 7:00 p.m., Sammy Johnson at 9:00 p.m., Common Kings at 11:30 p.m.; on the Main Street Stage — DJ at 7:00 p.m., Pertinence at 9:00 p.m., and Chingy at 11:00 p.m.

    Many who follow the event say the draw of New Year’s Eve on Fremont is not necessarily big-name stars, but rather the chaotic energy of a packed street under a giant LED canopy, the festive crowd, and proximity to downtown casinos. Historically, attendance has remained steady — around 10,000 to 12,000 — regardless of who’s on the bill or how high the price.

    Still, this year’s lineup has sparked discussion about whether the event’s appeal may finally be tested. With overall visitation to Las Vegas reportedly down, cost-cutting on talent might be a sign of changing times for Downtown’s marquee night. For some, that might not matter — they go for the lights, the crowd and the spirit. For others, the lack of standout acts makes it harder to justify a ticket.

    Whether this year’s crowd shows up in force or not, the name remains: Fremont Street New Years Eve remains the downtown alternative to Strip spectacle. But critics argue this year’s party may only deliver “just the vibe,” not the entertainment.

    The Four Queens renovation of the North Tower in downtown Las Vegas has been completed, marking the end of a $24 million upgrade that began in June 2024. The project was finished on time and within budget, introducing significant improvements to the hotel-casino’s guest accommodations.

    The renovation included a full replacement of the North Tower’s HVAC and plumbing systems, along with complete remodeling of all 300 guest rooms. Updates include sound-dampening windows, larger bathrooms, new carpeting and furnishings, 50-inch televisions, mini-fridges, in-room coffee makers, and custom closet organizers.

    General Manager Tim Lager described the changes as “dramatic” and noted that the rooms are “totally different” from their previous state, emphasizing the scope and impact of the Four Queens renovation. Guests began staying in the upgraded rooms during the first weekend after work was completed, with the hotel opening one to two floors per week. The North Tower is expected to be fully available to visitors by early September.

    Originally built in 1966, the North Tower had not seen a major update since 1999. The 400-room South Tower, which was not part of this renovation project, has undergone separate upgrades in recent years. Weekend rates for the renovated rooms start at about $69, and the property continues its policy of not charging resort fees. Additionally, beginning August 15, all rooms at the Four Queens will be designated non-smoking.

    The extensive renovation is aimed at maintaining the property’s competitive edge in the growing downtown Las Vegas hospitality market while providing guests with modern comfort and upgraded amenities.     Las Vegas is always changing, as we have recently seen with the closures of Tropicana and Mirage, as well as enhancements at Bellagio and Venetian. Now, a Four Queens renovation project down on Fremont Street means they won’t be left out of the fun. The resort is looking at $24 million worth of work tot their north hotel tower, which they hope to complete before the busy summer travel season next year.

    This project involves a complete overhaul and modernization of facilities originally established in 1966, last updated in the late 90s. Key features of the latest Four Queens renovation work include new closet organizers, carpets, furnishings, and upgraded heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing systems.

    Four Queens General Manager, Tim Lager,stated that “It was time for us to go in, especially for our systems, like plumbing and HVAC… We can gut it and make it all fresh.” Additional plans include larger bathrooms and the installation of sound-dampening windows to reduce noise from the Fremont Street Experience.

    During this latest Four Queens renovation, the 300 rooms in the North Tower will not be available. However, the South Tower, which houses 400 rooms, will remain open and unaffected by the current project, having recently undergone its own updates.

There are several bands scheduled to perform under the amazing Viva Vision canopy screen. So, if concerts figure into you vacation plans this summer, here’s what’s in store. The roster features an array of acts including Seether, Hoobastank with Soul Asylum, Boys Like Girls, Chris Janson, Sebastian Bach, Common Kings, Joe Nichols, and Sublime With Rome.

    The Fremont Street Experience offers diverse settings for live performances spread across three stages—the first is located between Binion’s and Circa close to 1st Street. There’s another near 3rd Street, between The D and Four Queens. Finally, the Main Street stage lies between Golden Gate and Circa. The Downtown Rocks 2024 events will take place across one or the other of these stages, depending on crowd size.

    These concerts operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with limited seating unless you happen to have a connection like Derek Stevens, the esteemed owner of Circa, The D, and Golden Gate. Stevens boasts an exclusive viewing box at The D Las Vegas, while Binion’s and Four Queens maximize their patios adjacent to the 1st and 3rd Street stages for optimal viewing experiences.

    The Christmas season may be the most wonderful time of the year, but it will also the time for the Golden Gate Casino on Fremont Street to shut down for a week. The down town landmark will temporarily shut down this month for renovations before welcoming guests again just in time for the holidays.

    Golden Gate Casino has announced the closure will run from December 18th through the 22nd in order to replace some carpeting. Not only that, but the resorts website seems to indicate that there is “No room at the Inn” (so to speak) from the 17th of this month all the way until the 27th.

    However, when they do reopen they will be celebrating with what’s being called an “open bar bash” from 6 to 8pm on December 23rd, as well as their annual Santa’s Helper contest. The property is owned by Circa Hospitality Group, which also runs Circa and The D.

    At over 115 years old, the Golden Gate Casino is easily the oldest casino on Fremont Street and all of downtown Las Vegas. So, perhaps it was time to change the carpeting. Let’s just hope they don’t find the remains of Jimmy Hoffa under the rugs.
