Freddie Prinze Jr. Has A REALLY Blunt Way To Get Kids To Eat Healthy – But It Worked! – Perez Hilton

If you need advice on getting your kiddos to eat their broccoli, Freddie Prinze Jr. has answers!

On Thursday, the hubby of Sarah Michelle Gellar debuted a new partnership with Libby’s Vegetables — and he got honest about how he gets his two children, Charlotte Grace and Rocky James, to eat healthy! The actor revealed to US Weekly:

“You just have to be a jerk. It’s OK.”

Well, that’s a blunt way of putting it! For what it’s worth, he doesn’t mean “jerk” as in “mean” or abusive, he just means he’s the dad and what dad says, goes! We know, easier said than done in some households, but the 47-year-old said he was inspired by his mom when approaching the topic of picky eaters:

“My mom had zero issues being a jerk, as did most moms in the ‘80s. You bring a little of that last generation in and let it speak for you when you feel you can’t do it yourself. I mean, [we] didn’t have a choice when I was growing up. If I didn’t eat my dinner, that was my breakfast the next morning. So I’m very strict with my kids, especially with stuff in the home.”

But the Scooby-Doo star said it’s been a very effective approach in getting his little ones to eat their greens, despite how harsh it may seem. He says Rocky and Charlotte now “eat everything” they’re served at mealtime:

“My kids were eating sushi when they were super young. They’ve been exposed to everything when they were super young, so it got a lot easier. Even if my son doesn’t like something, he’ll say, ‘Dad, it’s not my favorite, but don’t worry, I’m going to finish it.’”

Freddie also dished that he’s the chef of the house and not SMJ:

“[Sarah does] make some things for the kids sometimes, but I do most of the cooking. We cook about three [or] four nights a week. … If you ask my kids what their favorite [meal is], it’s when I make Mexican truck food. They go really hard on that stuff. If I make new Mexican food, I have to keep it a little more mild for my daughter, but my son loves heat.”

Freddie Prinze Jr. says that his time on the set of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” – the 1997 slasher film that served as one of his first-ever jobs in Hollywood – was a “miserable” experience.

The “She’s All That” star appeared in a video interview with TooFab published on Tuesday, in which he revealed that “It was a struggle to finish work every day” while working on the movie.

Prinze Jr. said the film’s director, Jim Gillespie, didn’t want him in the movie, adding, “when that’s your first job and you hear those words, it just wrecks you, man.”

The actor said he struggled with overly critical and “disrespectful” notes on his performance, including one he’ll “never forget”: “Don’t leave your mouth open. You look stupid when you do that.”

“It was very difficult waking up in the morning – or in the afternoon, because we shot a lot of nights – and go to work with the right attitude,” he said.

Gillespie appeared to have a different recollection when looking back on the production for the film’s 20th anniversary in 2017, telling Digital Spy at the time that he advocated for the actor to get the role.

“Nobody wanted Freddie; they thought he was too soft, he wasn’t muscular enough, so Freddie probably screen-tested four or five times,” Gillespie told the publication. “He got to the point where he was saying, ‘I’m done’, and I really had to plead with him to stick with it because I wanted him. I thought he was going to be great with it.

CNN has reached out representatives for Gillespie and Prinze Jr., for comment.

Nevertheless, Prinze Jr. said he’s glad to have done “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” calling it “the hardest job that I’d ever done, and I’m just glad I got it out of the way that early.”

He also met his future wife, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, while working on the film. Gellar played a local beauty queen who gets wrapped up in the murder cover-up at the center of the film.

“I wouldn’t have any of the things I have without that movie. I wouldn’t have my wife, I wouldn’t have all the other movies I’ve done,” he said.

Freddie Prinze Jr. Reveals What Led To His Frustration When Asked To Take A Pay Cut For ‘Scooby-Doo 2’

    By Melissa Romualdi.

Back when Freddie Prinze Jr. starred in the “Scooby-Doo” films, there was a period of time when the beloved franchise left the actor feeling “so angry.”

In a recent interview with Esquire, Prinze Jr.- who starred as the Mystery Inc. gang member Fred Jones in the 2002 Warner Bros. film “Scooby-Doo” and 2004’s “Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed”- revealed he was asked to take a pay cut despite the cast wanting a raise for the sequel, which included his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred as Daphne.

“I remember thinking, ‘Hold up, who’s giving them the raise? Me or y’all?’ Like we made you guys three-quarters of a billion dollars, you can’t afford to pay them what I’m making on this? Screw that,” the actor told the magazine.

He also addressed allegations that the studio had, at the time, publicized his salary in a magazine.

“My ego was so angry,” he said.

In the years following the release of the second film, Prinze Jr. began to develop a more “accurate perspective” on the popular projects, based off the famed animated mystery series “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” that introduced four teenage detectives and their team’s mascot- a talking dog- to the world in 1969.

“All these people that had grown up loving those [“Scooby-Doo”] movies started reaching out…and then I got what I felt was a more accurate perspective on what that movie meant to people,” Prince Jr. explained, noting that it was because he “was no longer viewing it through the lenses of the studio.”
