The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a dog was found apparently beaten to death in a ditch on Friday.
Leo Martinez told WRAL News his dog, Nina, disappeared early on New Year’s Day.
He said he dropped off some friends after a New Year’s Eve party.
“By the time I got back, she wasn’t there, but I thought she was with my brother,” Martinez said. “When I woke up a little later, I realized she was gone. We went looking for her.”
He said their family searched “all over” for her, but it wasn’t until the next day that she was found with her head covered in a trash bag and her body found in a ditch.
Martinez now wants answers.
“She was everything to me,” Martinez said.
Deputies said the investigation is still ongoing. Martinez asks anyone with information to contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
