Nation’s Largest AAU Youth Football and Cheer Club Cancels Fall Season Due to COVID-19 Concerns

    Press Release

    updated: Jul 14, 2020

The East Orlando Preds, the nation’s largest AAU Youth Football and Cheer Club, has always been committed to the health, safety, and the positive development of its athletes and families. For that reason, the Preds have made the very difficult decision to not participate in the 2020 Fall football and cheer season due to the negative effects of COVID-19 in its community and the country.

Since being established in 2013, the East Orlando Preds football and cheer programs have had tremendous success. The Preds football program has captured five FYFCL Super Bowl championships, including back-to-back 14U undefeated championship seasons (2018, 2019), and have played in a total of 10 FYFCL Super Bowls. In 2019, the Preds 14U football team finished 17-0, AAU National Football Champions, and were featured Super Bowl Sunday on Fox News’ Fox & Friends telecast on its South Beach Super Bowl set. Today, more than 15 Preds student-athletes are playing or entering their first year of collegiate athletics, while another 10 high school players have current collegiate sports scholarship offers.

On the cheer mat, the Preds Cheer Program has dominated youth cheer in the Central Florida region with over 50 first-place finishes, and over 100 second- and third-place finishes over the past six seasons, including being named Grand, Spirit or Arena champion over 25 times. In the past two years, the Preds cheer squads have won three UYFL National Cheer Championships at the 14U and 12U levels.

While the Preds love to compete and are committed to excellence on and off the football field and cheer mat, they have always done so with health and safety at the forefront.

“Unfortunately, COVID-19 is having a devastating and disproportional impact on multi-generational and lower-income households,” says East Orlando Preds President Shawn Seipler. “Cases of diabetes, asthma, obesity, heart disease, and hypertension exist at higher rates in these at-risk communities. Individuals with these underlying conditions have the greatest health risk to COVID-19. With so little information about the long-term impacts of the virus and the number of cases and infection rates rising among younger individuals who can carry the virus, we do not feel it is prudent to have youth football and cheer this fall. We can wait until early 2021, after proven treatments and a potential vaccine are available, to do our part to stop the spread and to keep our families safe.”

Shawn Seipler, President of the East Orlando Preds and Head Coach of the 14U football team, is also the founder and CEO of Clean the World, a global impact, social enterprise that distributes soap and provides WASH education to at-risk populations across the U.S. and worldwide. Clean the World has been a leading organization distributing soap and hygiene kits globally during the COVID-19 pandemic. Six members of the East Orlando Preds Board of Directors are Clean the World team members, including the reigning Arena Bowl Champion Head Coach Rob Keefe, who serves as the Preds football commissioner.

“When you see what the NFL, college football and other professional sports leagues are doing around the country right now in an effort to stem the spread of COVID-19 with tremendous resources at their disposal, it just did not feel right for us to proceed this year, knowing we do not have the same resources and medical experts in place to protect our families,” said Head Coach Rob Keefe. “We encourage all youth football and sports organizations to take a hard look at what they are accomplishing right now by attempting to have fall sports. It may be time for us to concentrate on delivering safe classroom education while finding healthy alternatives to mental and physical engagement for our youth that incorporates the necessary precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

The East Orlando Preds, now the proud feeder program to Colonial High School, will be back and will proceed with the 2021 season when things are safe to do so.

    About the East Orlando Preds:

The East Orlando Preds is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and the largest A.A.U Sports Youth Football and Cheer Club in the country. With athletes ranging in age from 5–15 years old, the Preds are designed to introduce, cultivate, and enhance players’ skill and passion for football and cheerleading. The Preds are committed to winning and excellence through positive coaching, encouragement, and youth development. We strive to ensure the success and growth of our young men and women in every facet of their lives, including in the sports arena, and to create leaders, role models, and positive contributors in our communities.

An Event Celebrating the Next Generation of All-Star Researchers Who Are Working on Breakthrough Treatments and Cures for Rare Diseases

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 27, 2020

Uplifting Athletes, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization that inspires the Rare Disease Community with hope through the power of sport, announced plans today for the third annual Young Investigator Draft, presented by CSL Behring, taking place on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL).

The football theme of the Young Investigator Draft is inspired by the NFL Draft. Instead of drafting emerging young football talent, this unique draft turns the spotlight on the next generation of promising young medical researchers who are “drafted” and awarded research grants by Uplifting Athletes in order to help them pursue new treatments and potential cures for many of the world’s rarest diseases.

“The Young Investigator Draft serves as a powerful celebration of research within the field of rare diseases, providing a platform to distribute research funding to up-and-coming young researchers and honoring our ‘Rare Disease Champion Team’,” says Rob Long, Executive Director of Uplifting Athletes. “We’re proud to have already awarded $180,000 in grants over the past two years alone and look forward to continued success. With every new year, we discover brilliant young researchers who help us learn more about these underserved diseases.”

“CSL Behring is proud to continue sponsoring this innovative program that supports emerging science and rare disease research,” added Kevin Kovaleski, Vice President, Global Commercial Development, Transplant, CSL Behring. “The Young Investigator Draft reinforces our promise to patients by empowering researchers to focus on the rare disease community.”

Uplifting Athletes and its annual Young Investigator Draft focus on rare diseases because they are often underserved and so diverse. Rare diseases are so prevalent that 1 in 10 Americans are affected by rare diseases. That’s a higher percentage than cancer and AIDS combined. Additionally, they transcend gender, race, age, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status. Unfortunately, due to the large variety and complexity of rare diseases, there is very little support for rare disease research, especially compared to funding for more common diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Uplifting Athletes exists to close this significant funding gap.

Uplifting Athletes emphasis for the 2020 Young Investigator Draft is on building greater audience participation for the draft event on Saturday, March 7, 2020, as well as inviting more medical research-related corporate sponsorship and involvement in the event. By doing so, Uplifting Athletes believes it can help transform the way society views, engages with and supports the research that will benefit many future generations. If you are not able to attend the event in person, please tune into the live stream on our Facebook page at bit.ly/2020YID at 7 p.m. EST.

  • Former Rams QB Jeff Kemp Kicks Off the NFL Pre-Season With Honolulu Blitz

Former Rams QB Jeff Kemp Kicks Off the NFL Pre-Season With Honolulu Blitz

    [ad_1]

Jeff Kemp’s blood simmers at this time of the year, and it’ll come to full boil during “NFL Pre-Season Week” in Honolulu. He’ll be speaking at eight events and rallies in Honolulu from Aug. 13-18. He’ll also be at Aloha Stadium on Saturday as his former team, the Los Angeles Rams, locks horns with the Dallas Cowboys in the first Hawaii NFL pre-season game in 43 years.

In the spirit of Aloha, the Jeff Kemp Team Honolulu Blitz aims to uplift students and athletes, dads and coaches, men and marriages. A team of organizations is hosting Jeff on a wave of Aloha Spirit to celebrate Faith, Family and Football.

In his 11 NFL seasons, Kemp proved, against huge odds as a free agent, that he knows how to win as a team. He quarterbacked the Rams to the playoffs in 1984 and helped lead the playoff-bound San Francisco 49ers in 1986, tossing 11 touchdowns in six games while replacing the injured Joe Montana. Kemp also played for the Seattle Seahawks and the Philadelphia Eagles.

After football, he’s spent almost three decades leading organizations to strengthen families, marriages and men. He’s a Fatherhood Ambassador for the Fatherhood CoMission and serves men, CEOs and organizations through Jeff Kemp Team.

His father, the late Jack Kemp, was a championship Buffalo Bills quarterback before having a widely admired political career as a U.S. Congressman, member of President George H.W. Bush’s cabinet and candidate for Vice President. Measuring up to that status was impossible for Jeff.

“I’ve been benched, booed, traded and cut. I learned the hard way that my identity and worth are not in my title or performance.”

Jeff openly relates to students, Millennials and men who feel the pressure of bullying, comparison, isolation and not feeling valued or loved.

“We all have insecurities and flaws … the struggles of pride, selfishness and destructive habits. I want everyone to know that they are valuable and loved. We don’t have to be the ‘star’ or have the most ‘likes’ to be ourselves.”

Jeff will bring humor, honesty and hope as he tells stories of football, family and faith. He’s the author of Facing the Blitz – Three Strategies for Turning Trials into Triumphs. Jeff and his wife, Stacy, have four married sons.

“I loved the intensity and teamwork of the NFL. But, even more, I love building families and teamwork to grow champions who receive love and give love. That’s why the Jeff Kemp Team is in Hawaii.” Here’s what others are saying about Honolulu Blitz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_vRNplxWPk.

    JEFF KEMP BIO

Jeff Kemp is a champion for strengthening relationships and teamwork. His message and coaching bring honesty and hopeful vision to organizations, businesses and families seeking to turn life’s troubles into triumph and succeed through teamwork.

Jeff’s team-building approach was influenced by his father, 49er coach Bill Walsh, business authority Pat Lencioni and relationship experts over his three decades lifting families.

After graduating from Dartmouth College, he entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent. He and his dad Jack Kemp, the late Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, were the first of only six sets of NFL father-son quarterbacks. In his 11 NFL seasons, Jeff quarterbacked for the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco Forty-Niners, Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles. In the off-seasons, he earned his MBA from Pepperdine University, focused on speaking and campaigned for his dad’s presidential nomination.

Jeff’s football career was a rollercoaster, going from fourth string to first string, from the bench to the playoffs and from winning to getting traded. He’s beaten the blitz on Monday Night Football and been cut midseason as a starting QB. He helped his teams and teammates, both on and off the field. Those highs, lows and epic team experiences set the stage for a career of serving others, building teamwork and helping people from all walks of life overcome adversity.

After the NFL, Jeff worked to improve the lives of children by strengthening marriages and families. He founded and led Stronger Families for 18 years and then served as a Vice President and Catalyst at FamilyLife, an international leader nurturing marriages and families. At Jeff Kemp Team, his mission is investing in relationships and teamwork – helping CEOs and businesses, men’s groups and marriages.

Jeff’s sweet spot is casting vision and uniting teams. He has delivered presentations to more than 1,300 audiences, including IBM, Northwestern Mutual, American Petroleum Institute, Young Presidents Organization, and Interstate Battery. Jeff has keynoted at hundreds of non-profit groups like governor’s prayer breakfasts, Athletes in Action Super Bowl breakfast, men’s retreats and the Billy Graham Crusade.

Facing the Blitz- Three Strategies for Turning Trials into Triumphs” was released in 2015. People remark that Jeff’s transparent stories and concepts are powerful, easy-to-remember and actionable. With self-deprecating humor and vulnerability, Jeff helps people embrace change, serve others and turn problems into positives. For more information about Facing the Blitz, visit http://facingtheblitz.com.

Early in his NFL career, Jeff married Stacy. They have four married sons and two grandsons. They love to mentor young couples, play tennis, ski as a family and speak for the FamilyLife Weekend to Remember marriage getaways.
