Banana Republic and J.Crew Are Stocked for the Holidays—26 Party Pieces to Shop

    [ad_1]

Despite the fact that it’s currently 70° and sunny in New York City, the holiday season is fast approaching. No matter how hard you try to keep your calendar from mid-November to early January as sparse as possible, it’s inevitable that a handful of invites that require a positive RSVP will fall into your lap. For those occasions that require your attendance, party looks are essential. Now, all you have to do is figure out which ones.

According to my latest market sweep, two retailers specifically have that area covered: J.Crew and Banana Republic. For two brands that would hardly be at the top of our holiday wish lists six months ago, J.Crew and Banana Republic are proving to be the ones to beat for party looks in 2022. Scroll down to shop our favorites.

17 New Reformation Dresses That Will Sell Out Before Party Season Even Arrives

    [ad_1]

As soon as the calendar flips over to November, I get excited about the holiday season. I’ve already ordered some new Christmas lights for my yard and I’m reveling in L.A.’s nippy evenings. One thing I haven’t done, however, is start thinking about holiday party outfits. Typically my holidays are low-key family affairs, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have fun dressing up.

Browsing Reformation’s new arrivals, I was struck by all of the beautiful party-ready dresses. There are dresses in green sequins, red silk, metallic knit, black velvet, and more. The exceptional frocks are all but guaranteed to sell out before party season even arrives. Scroll down to shop my favorite new Reformation dresses.

  • I Used to Hate This Boot Style, But These 21 Pairs Made Me Do a Total 180

I Used to Hate This Boot Style, But These 21 Pairs Made Me Do a Total 180

    [ad_1]

Normally, the first pair that comes to mind when I think of outdated shoe styles is a sock boot—period. Once utterly ubiquitous, the ultra-fitted silhouette was deemed “out” a few years back, and replaced by wider-leg knee-highs, cowboy boots, and anything with a lug sole attached. And yet, in recent weeks, I’ve found myself not only softening to sock boots again, but actually wanting a pair (or two) to add into my fall wardrobe. Shocking, I know.

From tall takes to classic ankle boots, the sock-boot offerings on the market right now are aplenty and dangerously tempting, and that’s coming from someone who six months ago would’ve likely scoffed at the idea of introducing a pair into my boot collection. But hey, there’s no need to blindly trust me. Instead, keep scrolling to make up your own mind about the second coming of sock boots. I have a feeling your opinion of them will do a 180 too.

We’ll follow Jennifer Lopez‘s direction pretty much anywhere—certainly to the lingerie department. So, we were delighted to spot this stunning yet surprisingly attainable balconette bra shared recently on the superstar’s Instagram account.

Lopez, who works with Intimissimi, shared a photo of herself in leisurely writing mode, clad in silky pajamas with the top unbuttoned to reveal the interesting details of her undergarment. We can only hope she was working on new music. Perhaps a Mrs. Affleck album is in our future?

Sophie Turner Knows the #1 Boot Trend to Wear With Leggings

Do we even have to say it? Winter is coming, and obviously, Sophie Turner has her seasonal style down to a science. The Game of Thrones star was spotted on a crisp October day in NYC with her husband Joe Jonas, both wearing black boots and oversized jackets. Yes, it’s officially autumn.

Though the couple’s style isn’t obviously coordinated, the silhouettes are complimentary and reveal their shared preference for versatile, quality basics.

As the seasons change, we’re prioritizing our search for the perfect black boots, and we’re taking Turner’s easy outfit as a sign that we’re searching in the right direction. • Angelina Jolie Puddle Pants, Platforms, and a Key Coat Trend to Get Groceries

Angelina Jolie Puddle Pants, Platforms, and a Key Coat Trend to Get Groceries

    [ad_1]

If I were to see Angelina Jolie at the grocery store, I would want her to be wearing exactly what she was photographed in while leaving the grocery store over the weekend. Her chic, minimal style can certainly be casual and comfortable, but it’s never sloppy—even when she’s doing something as low-key as making a grocery store stop.

Not only was Jolie’s outfit low-key, it was actually quite trendy. The trends she combined were puddle pants (baggy, wide-leg pants that are long enough to pool around the ankles), platforms, and a maxi-length coat. Leave it to Jolie to make trendy pieces look oh so understated. She did so by choosing neutral colors and wearing minimal accessories, which will help you, too, to achieve the low-key trendy look shes’ done an impressive job of perfecting.

  • Jennifer Lawrence Has Been Wearing These Controversial Flats to Walk Around NYC

Jennifer Lawrence Has Been Wearing These Controversial Flats to Walk Around NYC

    [ad_1]

When one typically thinks of “controversial” walking shoes, they think of heels, but I’m here to throw a bit of a curve ball in the form of Jennifer Lawrence. NYC resident Lawrence is quite often seen out and about strolling the city blocks, just like any of her fellow New Yorkers. And when it comes to footwear, she’s fairly practical, often favoring sneakers and flats by The Row.

In keeping with her theme, the new flats that Lawrence has been wearing lately are, in fact, from The Row, and they go by the name the Ozzy Slippers. The form-fitting slippers, which she was photographed wearing twice over the weekend, hug the foot and expose the outline of the toes, water shoe style. And while they don’t provide a ton of walking support with their thin sole, they sure are chic, and I’m sure any minimalist would consider them to be a dream shoe.

The Ozzy Flats are currently available for pre-order with a December delivery estimate, but in the meantime, I found a few similar pairs that will tide you over. Scroll to shop them along with The Row’s Ozzy Flats, JLaw’s new favorite walking shoes.

  • It’s Unclear, But This May or May Not Be the Newest $50 Ugg Trend

It’s Unclear, But This May or May Not Be the Newest $50 Ugg Trend

    [ad_1]

If you came to this story thinking that there’s a new pair of Ugg boots out there that only costs $50, I regret to inform you that that will probably never come to be, but there is a $50 Ugg item that’ll add a cool, protective boost to your boots (and sneakers, but more on that later). This magical item is the Ugg Boot Guard, which fits over the sole of your boots to keep the rain and snow away from the suede.

The Boot Guard actually came out in 2021, but for one reason or another, it’s picked up steam as of late. While the waterproof Boot Guards were made to protect Ugg’s collection of boots, GQ recently reported that sneakerheads were also using them with their beloved Nikes and New Balances. Whatever type of shoe you choose to pair them with, Ugg’s Boot Guard is perhaps the season’s most practical accessory trend, as rain and snow do not mix well with shoes (especially Ugg boots).

When I looked at the Boot Guards on Ugg’s e-comm site, it stated that 6.9k people were viewing the page at that very moment, which feels like a lot. Given all of this, I have a feeling these are going to fly out of stock, so order your pair while you can.

Scroll on to shop the Boot Guards, as well as our favorite Ugg boots to pair them with.

Hailey Bieber Wore a Fully Sheer Maxi Dress With Black Lingerie to an LA Party

    [ad_1]

What makes Hailey Bieber’s style so aspirational is the way she can make anything look effortlessly cool and genuinely copiable, whether it’s a post-pilates set or a slip dress at the Met Gala. Even her most daring style choices—yes, I’m talking about that Met Gala after-party look—elicit a million clones on Instagram and TikTok. And her latest one, despite being one of her most risqué yet, is no exception.

For a party put on by Tiffany & Co. in Los Angeles, the Rhode founder made a completely sheer black maxi dress from Saint Laurent, worn with nothing but a matching bra and underwear set, look entirely casual and wearable. Once intimidating, Bieber managed to make naked dressing for fall an approachable concept. Just add some strappy, sky-high heels and a gold wrist cuff.

Zara Just Released Its Most French-Girl Collection Yet

    [ad_1]

If you’re not fully familiar with Emmanuelle Alt, her name probably at least rings a bell. Alt served as the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris for ten years, departing last spring. Alt, who now focuses on styling, has a pared-down aesthetic when it comes to her own personal style, and is known for her impeccable wardrobe of neutral basics. When she wears trends, they’re subtle and timeless, like an oversized leather jacket.

My point in telling you all of this is that Alt and Zara just released their second collection together (their first came in July), with Alt serving as creative consultant. The name of the new collection is Into the Classics, and it contains a plethora of timeless pieces with Alt’s signature French twist. It’s pretty much every basic you need for fall in one drop.

Olivia Rodrigo Just Replaced Her Signature Combat Boots With the Trendiest Flats

    [ad_1]

I don’t know about you, but I associate Olivia Rodrigo’s style with two things: Dr. Martens combat boots and platform heels. She’s such a dyed-in-the-wool fan of the trends that it’s actually surprising to see her in a different style. So when she was photographed in Los Angeles, I instantly took note of her very trendy Mary Jane flats

All of Rodrigo’s other signature outfit elements were there: a 2000s-inspired low-rise miniskirt (I could have sworn I owned an identical one by Abercrombie & Fitch in 2004) as well as school-uniform-esque high socks and a crop top. As we’ve reported, Mary Janes and ballet flats have both seen a huge resurgence lately. They’re arguably some of the most timeless shoes around, but we simply can’t ignore a massive uptick in popularity, now can we? Scroll down to see how Olivia Rodrigo styles Mary Jane flats.

J.Crew’s Olympia Gayot on the Items That Have Achieved Cult Status

    [ad_1]

Olympia Gayot, J.Crew’s head of women’s and kids design, knows a thing or two about color. Prior to joining J.Crew in 2010, Gayot attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she studied fine art and painting. After graduating, Gayot painted commissions and simultaneously designed and styled for brands on the side.

Gayot brings her love of art and color composition into designing bold trousers, coats, and everything in between at J.Crew. “I’m always going to gallery openings or shows to keep myself interested in what’s going on and aware of what’s happening in the contemporary world,” Gayot said.

Not only does Gayot bring her artistic eye to design, but she’s also always thinking ahead when it comes to what’s going to inspire the next season’s collection. “I wish I could say it was one or two things that inspire me, but it’s really just so many different things, ” Gayot said. “It’s about connecting those dots together and creating a story.” In the latest episode of Who What Wear With Hillary Kerr, Gayot shares how she landed at J.Crew, the pieces that were her favorite to design, and more.

Meghan Markle Went Shopping in a Strapless Jumpsuit and Toe-Jewelry Sandals

    [ad_1]

I don’t know about all of you, but I still get a rush seeing Meghan Markle in her new, extremely low-key environment in California. After years of strict dress codes at formal engagements, a sighting that involves the Duchess of Sussex relaxing with friends in what can only be described as “California casual” attire is a breath of fresh air.

For her most recent outing—a shopping trip around Montecito and Santa Barbara—Markle chose a strapless jumpsuit from Malia Mills, a straw hat from Cuyana, and a dark-green Lauren Ralph Lauren knit tied effortlessly around her shoulders. She finished off the daytime look with a Chloé bucket bag, Valentino sunglasses, and, chicest of all, a pair of flat sandals from Emme Parsons with a loop around the toe adorned with a gold, jewelry-like bauble. Think of the shoes as a modern-day take on the toe ring, just a thousand times more buy-worthy.

Clearly, the impeccable sense of style Markle displayed back in the UK hasn’t skipped a beat. All it’s done is adjust to her new, more chilled-out surroundings in California. Shop the duchess’s casual-chic footwear style below.

  • How Amira Rasool Is Changing the Commerce Landscape With The Folklore

How Amira Rasool Is Changing the Commerce Landscape With The Folklore

    [ad_1]

Amira Rasool founded The Folklore with the mission to redefine the e-commerce space by enabling global customers to discover and shop premium luxury fashion, accessories, homeware, and beauty brands that were either based out of an African country or founded by folks of African descent. Her goal was to diversify the fashion landscape within the United States, creating sustainable revenue streams for designers who weren’t being given the global recognition they deserved. Completely exceeding the expectations of her core mission, Rasool has built a brand that has expanded its e-commerce into a three-tiered platform to better empower African and diasporic brands to work with international retailers: The Folklore Connect; a wholesale e-commerce platform; The Folklore Marketplace; and The Folklore Edit, an online media platform

In just four years, Rasool has made admirable strides. She has pivoted the business from a direct-to-consumer model to working directly with other companies like Farfetch, where her partnership meant tripling the number of Black-owned brands the retailer offers. She has also grown the resources provided to the brand partners, empowering diverse businesses in other emerging markets like South America and India. And impressively, Rasool has become one of the youngest Black women to raise over a million dollars in a pre-seed funding round, raising $1.7 million. Yet before she began evolving the e-commerce landscape into a more inclusive one, she was a fashion writer and editor.

Rasool spent her early career days working with several top media companies such as Time, Vogue, i-D Magazine, Paper, WWD, and Marie Claire as a fashion assistant, subsequently landing the role of fashion coordinator at V magazine before she built The Folklore at just 22 years old.

Listen to the latest episode of Second Life to hear how Rasool’s former career in fashion media led her on a personal journey to scouting brands across the continent to join the platform, ultimately giving the world access to incredibly talented designers from a multitude of diverse backgrounds.

I Just Read Tons of Amazon Reviews and Now Have These 28 Fall Items in My Cart

    [ad_1]

It seems like I was just sharing with you all of my favorite Amazon items for summer, but mentally, I’ve moved on to fall. Since the only way to really get into the fall spirit right now is to buy things for it (context: the chilly weather hasn’t fully come yet ), I’ve taken to Amazon to do just that.

As you know, Amazon is the number one source for random things you didn’t know you needed, and people love to leave reviews when they find a good random gem. I pretty much don’t buy anything on Amazon before first reading as many good and bad reviews as I can find the time for, but luckily for you, I found some time, and as the title of this piece states, my cart is quite full.

Below, you’ll find a mix of fashion, beauty, home, and miscellaneous items that are sure to come in handy in the coming months. Thank me later.

Bella Hadid Wore a Major 2023 Accessory Trend In a Way That’s Puzzling and Cool

    [ad_1]

Trend queen Bella Hadid is at it again, this time with a 2023 trend that’s actually quite classic. I love it when classic items become trendy, so I was thrilled to see that belts of all kinds flooded the S/S 23 runways. But the best pairing of them all (in my opinion, at least) is jeans with a classic leather belt in brown or black, and Hadid seems to fully agree. She wore not one, but two belts with jeans earlier this week. That’s right, she wore one through the loops of her baggy low-rise jeans and the other below it around her hips. On paper, you wouldn’t think that this styling makes much sense, let alone works, but for what it’s worth, Hadid certainly pulled it off.

If Hadid’s belt stacking makes you want to buy a new belt (I know I do), scroll on to shop classic options similar to the ones she wore. Feel free to wear as many as you’d like at once—it’s probably going to be a thing.

Black Adam’s Sarah Shahi Doesn’t Need Superpowers to Make a Big Impression

    [ad_1]

This movie is so action-packed and features incredible special effects. What was your reaction to seeing the completed film for the first time?

Jessica, I was blown away. I almost started crying. For the most part, I was doing green screen for everything. And this was the first time I’ve ever been in a movie like this before. When I saw the final product, I almost got down to my knees and started weeping because I felt so grateful. I can’t believe this is what I am in. I never, in my wildest dreams, could have imagined it to be that. And the way they shot those action sequences and the soundtrack with it, it was art. That’s a combination of not just the CGI and the special-effects team but Jaume, most definitely Jaume. And then our DP, Lawrence Sher, he’s just out of this world. He won an Oscar for Joker. And just going back to the Western references—like Lawrence of Arabia, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly—those big cinematic-scope Westerns were definitely a style inspiration for this movie. And oh my god, did they pull it off.

Okay, let’s switch gears for a minute. Everyone wants to know when season two of Sex/Life is happening. What, if anything, can you tell us about what’s next for Billie?

[The date of] season two of Sex/Life has not been announced yet, but I’m pretty sure it’s happening next year sometime. But I’m not at liberty to say more than that now. All I can say about that is the season this year is a little different. The themes this year are really about hope and second chances—wherever your imagination can go, if you can imagine Billie talking about second chances, [and] what that would mean.

And for me, I’m sitting in this chair right now in front of you. I don’t really know too many people who have this opportunity. To sit here and talk to you about the Netflix series, this huge movie I’m a part of, and to be a female in this position is just really fucking cool to me. At the end of the day, I sit back and think, “Damn—no matter how things pan out, I’m just lucky.” I’m so grateful.

The show was watched by 67 million households in its first four weeks and centers on empowered female sexuality, which we don’t see a lot on TV. Did you know it would be such a hit?

No, not at all. My job as an actor is to tell the highest level of truth for this character. That’s the only thing I can think of—to focus on her emotions, her feelings, who she is. To make sure I’m acting between the lines and to be so full of life and be present and just raw, that was my job. I also had a lot of personal life to draw from at the moment. I’m actually writing a book right now about all of that. But I was floored when I saw the response that all those people tuned in. Again, I sit here with so much humbleness. I guess hard work works. And keep going. Just put your head down, stop and smell the roses every once in a while, but this too shall pass just like everything else. I don’t get too attached to success. I don’t get too attached to failure. I just try to do me every single step of the way, and as long as my kids are provided for and I’m happy and healthy and they are too, that’s all I care about.
