While I should have held off and resisted the strong urge to step inside, I didn’t. Instead, I broke my resolution one day in and went off at 10 in the morning into the Half-Yearly Sale section. Surprise, surprise.

    As is often the case when you’re a celebrity, Rihanna and ASAP Rocky are in Aspen for the holidays, and for a recent shopping excursion, they coordinated their casual (well, their version of casual) winter outfits perfectly.

This season, the basics trend that everyone is buzzing about is hoodies. And speaking of Bottega Veneta, that’s the brand of the grey pullover hoodie that both Rihanna and ASAP Rocky just wore in Aspen. It’s cashmere and nearly $4k, but that’s the very rare exception when it comes to hoodies—not the norm.

    As soon as J.Crew’s Creative Director Olympia Gayot posted about an extra-special new cashmere sweater on her Instagram Story earlier this fall and an entire J.Crew campaign featuring members of the New York City Ballet wearing said sweater, it’s a given that a swift sellout soon followed. The sweater in question is J.Crew’s Brushed Cashmere Sweater.

    J.Crew’s design team spent a year developing the special fabric, which is made of long cashmere fibers that are specially washed to give them a light and fluffy finish. The result is the softest, fluffiest cashmere sweater you’ve ever seen. It was originally released in oversize V-neck and polo versions (which there are currently a few sizes left in). People went crazy for the V-neck sweater and it flew out of stock in every color. But lo and behold, I just noticed that J.Crew has restocked it in a crewneck version, in three perfect colors (oh, and there’s a hat too). I’m constantly trying her favorite products and re-creating her makeup looks. Whether it’s the product she uses to get a perfect slicked-back bun or the vitamin C serum she swears by, I’m going to try it out for myself. 

    My most recent Bieber-influenced obsession is “Sugar Plum Fairy” makeup. This is the term she coined for a certain pink, shimmery makeup look she created on TikTok. Ever since I first saw it, I’ve been hooked. To me, it’s a fresh and unexpected take on holiday makeup.

    That’s right. This year, instead of going with classic makeup elements like gold glitter and red lipstick, I’m choosing to go the Nutcracker route. Shimmery pink eye shadow, frosty rose-gold highlighter, and a shiny lip gloss will make me look like I came out of a Tchaikovsky dreamland. It’s only right that I end the year of balletcore beauty in this way.
