  • Olivia Rodrigo Wore the Chic Basic That Instantly Upgrades Skinny Jeans

Olivia Rodrigo Wore the Chic Basic That Instantly Upgrades Skinny Jeans

    [ad_1]

Gen Z queen Olivia Rodrigo just did the unthinkable and wore skinny jeans. (I apologize for the hyperbole.) It’s not something we’re used to seeing the Y2K-loving musician wear. But rumor has it that skinny jeans are coming back with a vengeance in 2023, so perhaps she’s getting a head start.

The outfit I’m referring to is one Rodrigo wore while out this week in NYC. She paired the aforementioned skinny jeans with a ribbed gray sweater and her go-to Converse Chuck Taylor high-tops. What took the outfit from cool to chic was the addition of a leather blazer, a trend that’s been percolating for several seasons now. Having polished basics that go with everything (like a leather blazer) is key because you can wear them with easy, casual pieces and look like you made an effort every single time.

Scroll to shop Rodrigo’s casual-chic look, along with some of my favorite leather blazers on the market.

Keke Palmer’s Latest Pregnancy Looks Include Cutouts, Bodycons, and Sequins

    [ad_1]

Ever since Keke Palmer announced her pregnancy mid-speech while hosting Saturday Night Live in December, we’ve been waiting patiently to find out how the Nope actress will approach maternity style. And just like her big reveal—which she made while wearing an all-khaki, three-piece Sportmax look—every outfit she’s been seen in so far has been both immaculate and just the right amount of risqué.

Her two most standout looks from her pregnancy thus far range from a low-key cool rib-knit dress, paired with a trench coat and strappy, lace-up heels, to a sequin-covered, silver Michael Kors Collection gown with a low-V neckline and cutouts on either side. So yeah, her maternity style is on par with our very high expectations. What the hell—it’s exceeding them. See and shop Palmer’s best pregnancy looks (so far) below.

Princess Kate’s Designer It Bag Is Shockingly Still in Stock at Nordstrom

    [ad_1]

The Prince and Princess of Wales are on the move. Today they left Kensington Palace and headed to Liverpool, where they met with healthcare workers at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Kate Middleton wore a polished outfit consisting of a plaid Holland Cooper coat, navy Cefinn dress, and coordinating Gianvito Rossi shoes, but I immediately zeroed in on her pretty bag.

The princess carried Mulberry’s Small Amberley Leather Shoulder Bag ($1035), which is surprisingly still in stock at Nordstrom right now. It’s a favorite of Middleton’s and given her tendency to clear out stock, I would have assumed royal fans would be lining up to purchase it. The price tag is certainly high but if you’re looking to save up for a designer item in 2023, why not go for a royalty-approved one? Scroll down to see Princess Kate’s new green and navy outfit in Liverpool and shop her purse.

Just two days after walking the red carpet at the 2023 Golden Globes in Los Angeles, Margot Robbie jetted off to the London premiere of her new movie, Babylon. She traded her Barbie-pink Chanel dress in California for a dramatic red caped Valentino gown in England and it deserves to be seen from every angle.

Robbie’s tent dress is certainly a new silhouette for her and I’m absolutely here for it. When she turned around, she revealed the beautiful backless design—the definition of a head-turner. Oh, and Brad Pitt was also there looking incredibly dapper. Scroll down to see Margot Robbie’s dramatic red cape at the London premiere of Babylon.

  • Ginny & Georgia’s Sara Waisglass Loves Maxine’s Perfectly Messy Journey

Ginny & Georgia’s Sara Waisglass Loves Maxine’s Perfectly Messy Journey

    [ad_1]

Ironically, doing just that—performing in front of people—is often anxiety inducing for Waisglass. In a moment of real honesty, she admits to me she panics any time she gets an audition. But Ginny & Georgia was different. Reading the sides for Maxine, she immediately fell in love with the character. “With her fast talking, with her oversharing, with her morbidity, she just popped right off the page for me, and I felt an immediate connection,” she says. “I’ve never had that happen before. I was just so excited to get into the room, and … when I got into the room, I said to the casting director, ‘How much fun can I have with this? How crazy can I go?’ And he was like, ‘Go nuts!’ I did, and I think that informed what Max became.” Sure enough, Max, in all of her energetic and eccentric glory, became an instant fan favorite.

A full two years passed between filming season one and season two (thank you, COVID), but as soon as Waisglass sat back in the hair-and-makeup chair, it was like Max had never left her. “I cried,” she laughs.

Though, it’s safe to say the Max we return to at the beginning of season two, which premiered last week, is far from the bubbly 15-year-old we know and love. Still reeling from the betrayal of Ginny and Abby and mourning the fallout of her relationship with Sophie, Max is heartbroken, bitter, and self-involved. But this season proves to be a growth period for her, a story line that also intrigued Waisglass. “What I’m excited for, definitely near the end of the season, is that Max is more sure of herself, and she knows what hurts her and what helps her, and she sets boundaries, which is really a beautiful thing, especially at 15,” she says. “I didn’t even know the word boundary until I was 22, so I’m very proud of her. I think she is very mature.”

But it’s not all doom and gloom for Max this season. We get to see a healthy new relationship for her. “The difference there is that, instead of chasing Sophie, Silver is just someone who sees [Max] and really likes everything about her. [She] likes her style [and] likes her energy, and it isn’t forced, and Max doesn’t feel like she’s trying, which is a really beautiful thing,” Waisglass says. There is also Max’s performance in Wellsbury High School’s fall musical production of Wellington (definitely not Bridgerton!), which proves to be yet another scene-stealing moment for Waisglass. The actress adds, “Max’s arc with Wellington is she’s letting other people take that spotlight, and she’s understanding her space and her role in her life. It kind of mimics her role in the show.” We also get to see more of the relationship between Max and her twin brother Marcus (“We have some really beautiful scenes together”) and, of course, the return of MANG. “That was also something that immediately attracted me to the script when I first read it because I love a good female friendship and representation of a good female friendship,” she says.

  • I Can’t Stop Thinking About Allison Williams’s Coats From the M3GAN Press Tour

I Can’t Stop Thinking About Allison Williams’s Coats From the M3GAN Press Tour

    [ad_1]

I know the point of a press tour is for actors to talk up their latest roles, but if I’m being completely honest, the only outcome I came to after seeing Allison Williams leaving press events all over New York City this week is that I want every single one of her many gorgeous coats—period. Since the start of the new year, Williams, who stars in 2023’s already-viral thriller M3GAN, has made appearances on The Today Show, LIVE with Kelly & Ryan, and more to promote the film. And each time she arrives at a studio, barring not one occasion, she’s been clad in a show-stopping piece of outerwear. Oh, and the looks underneath were chic too.

First up there was the black, cashmere Lafayette 148 coat she wore atop a plaid maxi dress from the brand’s Resort ’23 collection that she recycled for an occasion later that day, swapping out the dress for a simple black skirt-and-sweater set and leopard-print Mach & Mach pumps. Mere hours later, the former Girls actress changed into a navy-blue Tory Burch coat and a color-block set from fall/winter 2022. The next day brought an off-the-runway Sportmax look that I can’t do justice with words. Scroll down to see the look and more of Williams’s incredible outerwear from her press tour for M3GAN, which, if you’re up for it, is out now.

  • SZA’s Stylist Shares What It Was Like Working on SOS

SZA’s Stylist Shares What It Was Like Working on SOS

    [ad_1]

Can you tell me a little bit about how you started out and eventually found your way into both parts of your fashion career?

I grew up in L.A., and I always knew I wanted to be a fashion designer. When I was a kid, I didn’t know what being a stylist was. We had a family friend who was a costumer, and she was my childhood hero. Because that was the closest thing I knew to what I wanted to be.

I always wanted to be a fashion designer, and my goal was to go to FIT in New York City right after high school, but September 11 happened, but that derailed my moving to New York City.

I did a semester at SMC [Santa Monica City College], and then I went to FIDM. I went for fashion design. I had a teacher—I even remember her name; it was Mrs. Owens—and she was a designer. She actually had just gotten a job as head designer of Apple Bottom jeans.

She was portfolio teacher, and I remember she told me that I would be a good stylist. She had previously worked at MTV as a stylist, and she introduced me to what that was because I didn’t really know what it was. I interned for her at Apple Bottom after I graduated. Then I interned at a few different denim companies. I eventually got a job with a small L.A. brand as women’s designer, and I was there for four years.

There, I met stylists, and I started assisting. I did freelance design after I left, but I focused more on styling.

  • Kendall Jenner’s Makeup Artist’s Genius Hack Will Make You Look Sculpted AF

Kendall Jenner’s Makeup Artist’s Genius Hack Will Make You Look Sculpted AF

    [ad_1]

When it comes to applying complexion makeup, making a contour look natural is one of the hardest things to do. It’s tough to contour your face without either creating harsh lines that aren’t well blended or having the opposite problem happen and blending your contour so much that your foundation starts to come off.

Luckily, there’s a hack for that. Mary Phillips, makeup artist to celebs like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber, has a tried-and-true method for making your face look unbelievably sculpted. People have coined it the “Mary Phillips technique,” and the Internet has gone crazy for it.

Phillips herself decided to join TikTok to create her own videos explaining the viral makeup technique on Monday, and as expected, her initial video already has nearly 2 million views. “To me, it makes more sense,” Phillips says of the technique.”It’s like laying down the bones under the skin, the contour and the highlight being the bones and the skin being the foundation.”

In another video, Phillips goes into more depth, showing the products and brushes she uses for the makeup look. She starts by contouring the hollows of her cheeks, her forehead, under her chin, and her nose. After blending it in, she applies a highlighter to the high points of her face, then goes in with foundation and finishes with blush. For small areas, she uses a brow brush and a concealer brush to get the most precise details. Keep reading to shop the exact products she used.

Jenna Ortega Wore a Striking Cutout Dress on the Golden Globes Red Carpet

    [ad_1]

Jenna Ortega has become one of the most highly anticipated celebrity appearances on the red carpet since the release of the Netflix’s smash hit Wednesday in which she plays the titular character. While Ortega has been leaning into all-black, Goth-inspired looks for past red carpets, tonight she graced the 80th annual Golden Globes in a stunning, Gucci dress with exquisitely placed midriff cut-outs paired with silver jewelry. This glamorous look solidifies the rising star as a must watch Hollywood sophisticate.

Along with presenting in this year’s award ceremony, Ortega could also become the youngest person to win a Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a musical or comedy TV series. Ortega has proven she can can rock a variety of looks, and we’re excited to see what she does next. If this Gucci number told us anything, she’s definitely one to watch out for as far as future red carpet appearances go.

Net-a-Porter’s Sale Has Entered Into 80%-Off Territory—34 Finds to Shop First

    [ad_1]

If there’s ever a time to stress patience, it’s sale season. Though it’s commonplace to think that you have to act on a sale immediately after it launches in order to avoid missing out on something you want (hello, have you ever been to a New York City sample sale?), that isn’t always the path toward the best deal. Rather, unless your dream bag, pair of boots, or coat is one of the last few in stock right when the discounts kick off, I’ve always found it worthwhile to sit on it a little bit. Eventually, especially in the case of Net-a-Porter sales, it very well might get marked down again… and again… and then once more.

As luck would have it, the final round of markdowns for the luxury retailer’s epic winter sale is happening right now, and it includes over 18,000 items at prices up to 80% off (casual). From Khaite sweaters and basics from The Row to Saint Laurent eyewear and Nensi Dojaka dresses, the sale selection being offered right now at Net-a-Porter was well worth waiting for. And since you’ve been patient, I went ahead and rounded up the best 34 finds from the bunch. Scroll down to shop them all.

Moda Operandi is a very well-known (and well-shopped) fashion destination, but as of today, it’s also a luxury beauty destination. Yes, that’s right. Meet the Photographer and Author Fulfilling Her Dreams in Provence: Jamie Beck

    [ad_1]

Jamie Beck is an anomaly. At just 13 years old, she took her first photograph, and by 28 years old, she opened her own commercial photography studio in Lower Manhattan called Ann Street Studio. Beck had built a burgeoning business in the industry, shooting campaigns and editorials for some of the world’s top luxury fashion brands and publications, such as Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, and Vogue, and expanding into major tech companies, including Google and Microsoft. As one of the original fashion photographers and “style bloggers,” Beck has been a leading creative in the scene.

Beck also invented a new technique alongside her husband, Kevin Burg, called the Cinemagraph—a living image that consists of a still photograph that contains an element of movement looped seamlessly to create a never-ending moment. But over the course of her highly successful, bustling career in New York, she couldn’t shake one dream: to live in the South of France. In 2016, Beck moved to Provence for what was to be a one-year sabbatical to create a personal body of work. Six years later, it’s safe to say France has become her permanent home. In Provence, Beck has expanded her creative body of work that now includes her Provençal Self-Portrait series and her 2020 #IsolationCreation series, where she created a piece of art daily and encouraged others in isolation to do the same.
