  • Dakota Johnson Wore the Trend for Anyone Who Doesn’t Like Baggy or Skinny Jeans

Dakota Johnson Wore the Trend for Anyone Who Doesn’t Like Baggy or Skinny Jeans

    [ad_1]

If Dakota Johnson is your denim style muse, consider this your happy place. A place where you can get trend inspiration from the coolest of women. And her latest outfit could solve a denim predicament that you might be having. As you know, the denim trend cycle has been dominated by baggy jeans as of late. A stark alternative to that is skinny jeans, which aren’t trendy per se, but remain popular. (Watch a recent episode of The Bachelor if you don’t believe me.) If you don’t like either of these styles, my guess is that you want something in between. Enter Dakota Johnson.

You can always count on Johnson for cool, on-trend denim outfits, and earlier this week in Santa Monica, she wore a look that was no exception. Her outfit featured the denim trend that’s perfect for anyone who hates baggy and skinny jeans: wide-leg jeans. Johnson’s high-waisted, medium-blue style works with practically every type of shoe and is ideal for both day and night. This low-key style also never really goes out of style, so there’s that.

Scroll on to see how Johnson styled her wide-leg jeans (with a blue chore coat and black block-heel boots), and shop my personal favorite wide-leg jeans.

Katie Holmes Wore the Bag Trend Everyone Says Is Replacing Mini Bags

    [ad_1]

If you’ve ever spent a full day with everything you need shoved into nothing but a mini bag, you know that the struggle is real—especially when you’re in a mostly carless city such as NYC. But small bags have been the way of the fashion world in recent years and carrying around a large tote would lead people to assume you were headed to the office or the airport. But there’s good news if you’re tired of the tiny bag trend: Oversized bags are back (they’ve been all over the recent runways), and Katie Holmes is aware.

Being the busy New Yorker that she is, it makes sense that Holmes would be on board with the oversized bag trend. On a recent late January day in the city, she carried a large black leather tote with a casual sneaker outfit. The luxe bag elevated the look but not in a trying-too-hard-to-be-trendy kind of way, given how classic it looks. So if you too are ready to upsize your bag, keep scrolling to shop chic oversized bags that will give you that effortless Katie Holmes look.

  • J.Crew’s New $198 Handbag Is For You If Celine’s Teen Triomphe Is Your Dream Bag

J.Crew’s New $198 Handbag Is For You If Celine’s Teen Triomphe Is Your Dream Bag

    [ad_1]

Since its release in 2018 by creative director Hedi Slimane, Celine‘s Teen Triomphe bag has made the rounds among celebrities and It girls, mostly French ones, alike. Lauded for its sleek design, practical size and shape, and goes-with-everything aesthetic, the crossbody bag is understandably many people’s dream bag. There’s just one component of the bag—clad with the two C Triomphe emblem that the brand’s founder Céline Vipiana came up with back in 1972—that might cause one to pump the breaks before making a purchase: It costs more than $3,600.

Though understandable given the quality of the materials used to craft it—it has a calf-leather exterior, a lambskin interior, and gold hardware—simply put, a lot of consumers can’t afford a bag with a price tag that high. Fortunately, another trusted brand just launched a style that, at $198, is much more likely to fit into this month’s shopping budget

This week, J.Crew debuted the latest iteration of its Edie bag, and in 2023, it’s gotten quite the refresh. The Edie first launched in the fall 2011 collection and looked like a more structured than usual messenger bag with a feminine touch. This time around, it’s been shrunk down to 6 1/2″H x 8 1/2″W x 2 1/4″D and made in a shiny Italian leather with gold hardware. Offered in four colors—black, ivory, green, and baby blue—the style is perfect for anyone who’s been eyeing the iconic Teen Triomphe but can’t quite secure the bag just yet. It’ll happen one day, but for now, the Edie is a more than worthy sit in.

How Danielle Sherman Went From Co-Founding The Row to Launching Her Jewelry Line

    [ad_1]

Danielle Sherman has worn many hats throughout her career. For one, got her start in the fashion world at a young age. From taking classes at Jo-Ann Stores to sewing with Vogue patterns, Sherman has always loved working with her hands.

While learning to sew, she was also making jewelry and had a knack for sourcing rosary beads from flea markets and remaking them into necklaces. At the age of 16, Sherman launched her own line of leather accessories, which was funded by a small acting role she landed in The Parent Trap.
(Yes, *the* Parent Trapstarring Lindsay Lohan.)

Eventually, Sherman moved to New York City and enrolled at New York University. Upon graduation, Sherman worked for Tahari ASL and went on to co-found The Row with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. After stints at Alexander Wang and EDUN, Sherman struck out on her own. During her time consulting was when Sherman was able to get in the headspace to get creative and figure out what she wanted to do next.

That next thing? Relaunching her grandparent’s high-end women’s tailored clothing, Sherman Field, as a fine jewelry label in 2019.

In the latest episode of Who What Wear With Hillary Kerr, Sherman shares how she went from co-founding The Row to launching her fine jewelry line, the investment pieces worth buying, and so much more.

These Celebs Are Straight-Up Wearing Lingerie on the Red Carpet in 2023

    [ad_1]

If it seems like anything goes when it comes to red carpet style, you’re not wrong. There seems to be a different set of rules for what’s acceptable for someone to wear at a celeb event versus out in public. To be clear, I’m not complaining, as it allows stars to take daring risks with their fashion choices—something we definitely appreciate here at Who What Wear.

We’re only one month into 2023, but celebrities are already declaring the underwear-as-outerwear trend to be all-important this year. Liza Koshy, for instance, wore a thong-exposing Dior dress at the Golden Globes, while Janelle Monáe opted for a see-through Vera Wang gown at the Critics Choice Awards. Meanwhile, The Crown star Elizabeth Debicki opted for a more modest look with a bra peeking out of her sheer Dior blouse at the brand’s Haute Couture S/S 23 show in Paris. Because of this sheer volume of brands, it’s important to pay attention to the ones that are actually landing with their audiences. • J.Lo Wore the Chic Outerwear Trend I’m Seconds From Buying for $120 on Amazon

J.Lo Wore the Chic Outerwear Trend I’m Seconds From Buying for $120 on Amazon

    [ad_1]

There are certain wardrobe items that simply pull more weight than others. A great handbag, standout boots, or an eye-catching piece of outerwear has the power to transform even the most boring outfit into something truly special. And no one knows that more than Jennifer Lopez, who spent a day over the weekend with her husband, Ben Affleck, and their kids wearing a simple jeans and T-shirt combination that was made noteworthy thanks to an extraordinary faux-fur jacket.

Specifically, Lopez’s top layer was a mohair-blend cardigan-coat from the luxury Italian fashion house Brunello Cucinelli. But since her exact pick is neither available nor affordable for many, I went on a hunt to find an alternative that is. That’s when I stumbled upon an equally boho-chic jacket from the NYC-based denim brand BlankNYC on Amazon that just so happens to be marked down from $148 to $120.

Both Lopez’s jacket and my Amazon alt fall under a ’70s-era outerwear trend that’s making a major comeback right now: shaggy faux-fur coats. From styles made entirely of the fuzzy fabric to pared-down versions that are only lined with it (think Penny Lane’s in Almost Famous), shop the J.Lo-approved style below.

Olivia Wilde Has Joined the Fan Club of Hollywood’s Favorite Leggings

    [ad_1]

If the frequent paparazzi photos are any indication, Olivia Wilde works out a lot. Therefore, she needs many pairs of leggings and surely has a set of criteria for the ones she adds to her collection. I guess you could say I look at photos of celebrities a lot (it’s my job) because upon seeing a workout outfit she wore over the weekend, I instantly recognized them as one of celebrities’ favorite pairs as of late: ALO Airlift Leggings. (She opted for a pretty plum pair with a teal ALO hoodie and pink Adidas running sneakers.)

Other members of the unofficial ALO Airlift Leggings fan club include Hailey Bieber, Dakota Johnson, Kaia Gerber, Addison Rae, Rita Ora, and Alessandra Ambrosio, so they must be special—and they are. For starters, they come in tons of colors (both seasonal and basic), and they have a pretty sheen to them. Additionally, these second-skin leggings sculpt and contour like no other and wick away moisture during sweaty workouts. It’s no wonder they have nearly five stars and 2.4K reviews on ALO’s website.

How Gaëlle Drevet Built Fashion’s Favorite Brand: The Frankie Shop

    [ad_1]

There’s no denying that The Frankie Shop has become an editor-approved, It-girl brand over the years through its effortlessly cool yet sophisticated silhouettes with a minimalistic flair. Taking the fashion industry by storm, it’s truly no surprise that the woman behind the brand, French native turned New Yorker Gaëlle Drevet, innately possesses that same je ne sais quoi that The Frankie Shop radiates. She founded the brand with the intention of making women feel good through the art of dressing, and over the years, she has done just that.

Drevet has had her finger on the pulse of how thousands of women from all over the globe want to shop, stocking her inventory with classic yet elevated wardrobe staples and a finely curated selection of under-the-radar designers that embody both Parisian and New Yorker styles. Continuing to blend the two fashion capitals, The Frankie Shop now has brick-and-mortar stores in both Paris and New York. The Frankie Shop has amassed a loyal following of customers, including women and men, as she just added an assortment for men last year that contributed to a total of $40 million in sales in 2022 alone, with some of the best-selling items garnering extensive waiting lists. Drevet saw a massive gap in the market and the desire to dress with Parisian sophistication without breaking the bank and continues to be at the forefront of the contemporary market.

I know, I know. Why am I writing about dresses when it’s still January? I have to admit: My sports bra collection is one of the most neglected parts of my wardrobe. Since I always cover them up with tees, I haven’t been inclined to buy a new one in a long time—that is, until I saw Reese Witherspoon’s. In a cute Instagram video, she wore the Draper James Sports Bra in Navy Gingham ($65) along with the matching Panel Leggings in Navy Gingham ($95) for a yoga sesh, and it instantly #influenced me.

Jennifer Lawrence Is Right: This Is the Chicest Flats Trend to Wear With Shorts

    [ad_1]

Jennifer Lawrence clearly isn’t in New York anymore (for now, at least). We know that from the green grass and the shorts outfit, she’s currently in L.A. But as far as shorts outfits go, it is reasonably winter-appropriate. The professional outfit consisted of a blazer, black tank top, and long trouser shorts. It’s the kind of shorts outfit that you could certainly get away with wearing to a business meeting. But we’re here to talk about her footwear.

Lawrence chose a polished flat shoe trend that you shouldn’t be surprised in the least to see worn with shorts a lot come spring and summer: Mary Janes. The sweet trend elevates shorts of any type—from denim cut-offs to trouser shorts like Lawrence’s—and it goes with a lot more than just shorts, as evidenced by how often Lawrence wears her The Row Mary Janes.

If you’re already starting to think about shorts season, now might be a good time to get yourself a new pair of Mary Janes. Scroll to shop our picks if you’re on the same page.

Jennifer Aniston and J.Lo Both Wore the Denim Trend I’m Replacing Skinnies With

I wouldn’t say that Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez have similar personal styles. The latter tends to be much bolder and more experimental. But here they are wearing identical outfit formulas in the same week in the same city. Who would have thought? They were both photographed in Los Angeles wearing black turtleneck sweaters, flared jeans, and top-handle bags. Are you taking notes yet?

Flared jeans happen to be one of my favorite denim trends right now—one that I’m willing to swap out my beloved skinny jeans for. In my opinion, they’re so much dressier than skinnies and help you look instantly polished. Rita Ora and Courtney Love Wore Highly Controversial Wedge Boots in Paris

The couture runways aren’t the only places we’re seeing avant-garde fashion. Celebrity attendees such as Anne Hathaway and Apple Martin have spared no expense when it comes to their fashion week outfits, and the Fendi Haute Couture show was no exception. Both Rita Ora and Courtney Love wore Fendi’s wedge boots and pulled them off with ease.

You might remember that wedge boots and sneakers peaked in the early 2000s and 2010s, but we haven’t seen a lot of the polarizing trend recently. Given Fendi’s power to single-handedly shape the course of the fashion industry, I have a feeling these shoes will launch a wedge-boot trend in no time. Scroll down to see the photos.

Anne Hathaway Wore the Pretty Shoe Trend Everyone Will Wear With Jeans This Year

    [ad_1]

New(-ish) fashion icon Anne Hathaway is in Paris for Couture Fashion Week, and she’s been keeping us on our toes with one incredible look after another (see here and here). One of her most casual looks of the week thus far featured a pretty (and somewhat flashy shoe trend): metallic shoes. Hathaway paired silver Western boots with wide-leg jeans and a peacoat, with the boots providing just the fashiony jolt the look needed during Couture Fashion Week.

Metallic shoes have been popping up more and more on the market and in my Instagram feed, and other chic celebrities (like Katie Holmes) have also worn the trend as of late. Not only that, but they were also worn by half of all of the models that walked in Chanel’s couture show this week (a gold cap-toe sock boot, to be exact). I happen to think that metallic shoes are the perfect match for jeans and I highly recommend investing in a pair if you’re a regular denim wearer (or not—they kind of go with everything).

Read on to see the aforementioned metallic boots in action and shop some of the internet’s chicest pairs.

Anna Wintour Packed This Affordable Trend in Multiple Colors for Paris Couture

    [ad_1]

As the editor in chief of Vogue for over three decades, Anna Wintour obviously has an astute sense of style. Although the pages of the magazine have evolved over the years, Wintour’s personal wardrobe has remained, well, rather formulaic: No matter the season, she favors long floral dresses, leather heels or boots, and elegant outerwear.

Aside from her signature sunglasses, Wintour isn’t one to overly accessorize, which is why we were pleasantly surprised to see her in not one but two vibrantly colored scarfs while attending the recent Paris couture shows. The bright blue (no, not cerulean) and nearly neon yellow complemented both her floral dresses without being too matchy-matchy and provided a nice pop of color amid the gray winter weather.

Since we’re always taking notes on what Wintour deems trend-worthy, we’re excited to incorporate a few bold, colorful scarfs into our wardrobes over the next few months. Plus, it’s too affordable not to try. Visitors to NYC can purchase a pashmina for just $5 at almost any street vendor, but if shopping online is more accessible, don’t worry. Anne Hathaway’s Airport Outfit Is 100% Our Ideal Travel Attire

    [ad_1]

We’ve been fans of Anne Hathaway since long before she donned the Chanel boots in The Devil Wears Prada, so it has been an absolute delight seeing her conquer red carpets and press events in trendsetting style over the past several months. In fact, one might say we’re in the middle of an Anne Hathaissance!

Recently, she stepped out at the Sundance Film Festival wearing a Versace puffer jacket without pants. And of course, she nailed the Barbiecore trend last fall. So perhaps this head-to-shoelaces red outfit, including a duvet-like red jacket from Monse’s latest resort collection, is a sign of more statement outwear to come. Hey, we’re into it!

Not only does Hathaway’s eye-catching airport outfit appear to be extremely comfortable, but it’s also quite brilliant: Her gigantic jacket easily doubles as a blanket and is undoubtedly much softer than the plastic-wrapped fleece wraps handed out in coach.

With the President’s Day long weekend on our radar, we are looking forward to putting Hathaway’s airport-style hack to the test. Keep scrolling to shop red blanket-like coats, plus more pieces from her travel-day attire.

One of the most memorable, specific outfit trends to come out of 2022 was without a doubt the viral Miu Miu-inspired one that we’ve all come to know and love. If an image of a short miniskirt, white socks, and loafers comes to mind, ding ding ding! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen this outfit trend on Instagram, and I’m not mad about it. I personally love it and find it to be pretty versatile. And Hailey Bieber just expertly displayed how to make it work for winter.

While out in NYC over the weekend, Bieber paired her pleated miniskirt, white socks, and loafers with a polo sweater, black wool coat, and sheer tights. She looks cool in everything she wears but this look was especially chic, and is a perfect example of how to style it for cold weather (and you could always swap the sheer tights out for warmer opaque ones).
