  • J.Lo Just Broke My Cardinal Rule of Airport Dressing

J.Lo Just Broke My Cardinal Rule of Airport Dressing

    [ad_1]

We’re all in agreement that Jennifer Lopez can do no wrong, but I can’t help but question her sartorial sensibilities on her most recent trip to the airport. The decision to wear a denim boiler suit seems, well, a tad impractical. Again, no issues with denim, obviously, but wearing a one-piece on a flight? That’s a no from me, J.Lo.

Aside from the fact that she may or may not have been flying private, the issue remains: who wants to get naked in an airport bathroom? Not me, and probably not Mrs. Affleck, either. So, allow me to suggest an easier way to get a similar look: baggy blue jeans

Yes, it’s still wearing jeans to the airport, but at least you don’t have to disrobe completely if and when nature calls at 35,000 feet. Ahead, check out 9 pairs of wide-leg jeans that we love, and maybe even Jennifer Lopez will consider wearing the next time she takes flight.

Who What Wear Readers Get 20% Off at Shopbop—Here’s What to Buy

    [ad_1]

It has been years since I’ve been back-to-school shopping, but once the dog days of summer come around, I can’t help but get excited about fall fashion.

Given that I have a classic, minimalist style, it takes a certain something to make me want to add an item to my cart and check out. So, I tend to take my time browsing a few of my favorite multi-brand retailers, especially Shopbop. It’s so easy to see what’s trending for the seasons, and I always set my filter to search for “newest” (and my sizes), which helps to narrow down the hundreds of pages into a consumable dozen or so.

Of course, the only thing better than finding new fall clothing and accessories to add to my autumn wardrobe is scoring them for an unexpectedly sweet price. Luckily, Who What Wear readers can get 20% off at Shopbop until 8/31 using code WWW20. Now for the fine print: the code is for new customers only and cannot be combined with any other promotions. See full terms and conditions here.

Keep scrolling for 15 of my personal picks from Shopbop, some of which I can wear now, and others I’ll save for when it’s officially sweater weather

  • Sofia Richie Grainge Wore the ’80s Jacket Trend That’s About to Be Everywhere

Sofia Richie Grainge Wore the ’80s Jacket Trend That’s About to Be Everywhere

    [ad_1]

After our slightly ’80s-inspired (and very loud luxury) cover spread starring none other than 2023’s It girl Sofia Richie Grainge, I can’t say I was surprised to find a slideshow featuring one of the era’s biggest and most relevant-right-now trends pop up on her Instagram feed. That’s not to say I wasn’t happy to see it there, especially since I’ve been rallying behind the vintage outerwear’s return to fame for quite some time now. If you haven’t yet guessed, I’m referring to the tapered-in, gold-buttoned, big-shouldered blazers and jackets from the oft-slept-on decade in fashion that—thanks to brands like Saint Laurent, Alaïa, Schiaparelli, and more—are making a massive comeback for fall.

Richie Grainge, in particular, chose a highlighter-yellow take on the style, with hers featuring a military-style collar and a long-line silhouette. Though the photos, which she captioned with just a lemon emoji, don’t show her entire ‘fit, she appears to be wearing black jeans and carrying an Hermès Swift Kelly bag, a style that’s currently on sale for over $15,000 (casual).

While styles similar to Richie Grainge’s are all over the secondhand market—I have a habit of checking the RealReal for them every morning before I get up—brands like Zara, H&M, and more are, too, getting in on the ’80s-blazer trend, making it both easy and affordable to mimic the newlywed’s look. Scroll down to shop some of my personal favorites that are available RN.

Rihanna Just Gave Birth to Baby #2—Here’s Everything We Know

    [ad_1]

After an impressive parade of pregnancy outfits beginning with her Super Bowl performance back in February, Rihanna has finally given birth to her second child. TMZ reports the new bundle of joy is a boy, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out his name. According to the outlet, Rihanna actually gave birth earlier this month, but the news has only just been revealed now.

Over the last six months, Rihanna defied expectations when it came to maternity style. For instance, she made a memorable entrance at this year’s Met Gala wearing a voluminous Valentino number festooned with 3-D flowers. She also dared to wear a sheer sequin dress with a bikini underneath—on the red carpet, no less. Scroll down to revisit my favorite Rihanna maternity looks of the year.

Television host, food expert, author, and producer grace Padma Lakshmi’s resume, posing the question: is there anything this culinary luminary can’t do? Known for her 19-season reign as the Emmy-nominated host and executive producer of Bravo’s beloved competition cooking show, “Top Chef,” Lakshmi is no stranger to the culinary entertainment industry. Today, she sits at the helm of the critically acclaimed Hulu docu-series “Taste the Nation,” a show she created, hosts, and executive produces. In “Taste the Nation,” Lakshmi embarks on a captivating journey to explore immigrant communities across the United States and their profound impact on American cuisine.  Recognized for her incredible passion for connecting with others through the love of food, her work has earned her accolades, including Critics Choice Real TV Awards, Gotham Award nominations, and a James Beard Foundation Award.

  • 19 H&M Fall Anti-Trend Items That Have My 59-Year-Old Mom and I Likewise Smitten

19 H&M Fall Anti-Trend Items That Have My 59-Year-Old Mom and I Likewise Smitten

    [ad_1]

Historically, my mom and I have hardly agreed on my fashion choices. Risqué hemlines, bold trends, skinny jeans, platform shoes—all of these things, at some point, have lived in my closet and been a significant part of my wardrobe rotation. My mother disapproved of each of them. You see, her style’s always erred on the timeless side, whereas I have had a tendency to try lots of different things until something sticks. But as I’ve grown older and gotten acquainted with my personal style, my tastes have begun to align with hers, skewing more classic and anti-trend rather than loud and daring.

Nowadays, when I find chic items throughout the work day and I send them to my mom to get her thoughts, we agree on them far more than we disagree on them. Case in point, when I texted her this morning with a link to H&M’s new fall drop—full of classic, minimal, and wearable pieces for the upcoming season—and we both immediately started picking out items that we wanted. Out of all the ones that are still in stock (yes, the collection just launched, and yes, it’s already selling out), we shared affection for 99% of them, something I never would have expected could happen a decade ago.

See why, despite our 27-year age gap, my mom and I are both completely smitten with H&M’s fall arrivals below.

Taylor Swift Just Wore The Perfect Wedding Guest Dress—Shop the Pretty Trend

    [ad_1]

When Taylor Swift is a guest at a wedding, it’s easy to guess whose dress is the second most talked-about (after the bride’s of course). In this case, the wedding was for Swift’s longtime friend and producer Jack Antonoff to actress (and Chanel ambassador) Margaret Qualley. The wedding took place in a New Jersey beach town and based on the photos I’ve seen, I’d call it a classic, semi-formal affair—and Swift dressed accordingly, opting for a light blue lace midi dress by Erdem (which is now on sale, but it’s going fast).

The romantic dress, with its corsetted bodice and ruffled skirt, is as perfect for a wedding as it gets. And while there are many trend-forward elements to Swift’s dress, it’s the balconette detail that makes the most impact, in my opinion at least. Balconette dresses feature bra-style cups (often underwire), and it’s a pretty, lingerie-inspired trend I’ve seen a lot of as of late. I can tell that people love it because dresses of this style are often very quick to sell out.

Scroll on to follow Swift’s lead and shop the pretty balconette dress trend for yourself.

When online shopping is part of your job description, you’re bound to pick up a few tips and tricks along the way. When it comes to J.Crew, for instance, one of my favorite ways to shop the site is to sort by “Top Rated.” This is particularly helpful for J.Crew sales, as it populates the cream of the crop so you don’t have to do any digging to find the most popular items.

The $130 Flats From Nordstrom I’m Buying to Copy Olivia Rodrigo’s Designer Pair

    [ad_1]

If you’re an Olivia Rodrigo fan, September 8 is a date you’ve already circled in thick red pen. It’s when the Gen Z singer will release her highly anticipated second album, Guts. We’re still three weeks away, but she’s already whetted our appetites by releasing two singles from the album—”Vampire” and “Bad Idea Right?”

She’s been showing off a lot of stylish looks on her press tour so far, but one caught my attention because of her perfect shoes. Photographed at the BBC Radio 1 studio in London, Rodrigo wore a concert tee with a miniskirt along with Labucq Norman Maryjane Shoes ($450). I found a pair of Sam Edelman shoes at Nordstrom that have the same vibe at a fraction of the price. The cherry on top? The shoes have over 100 five-star reviews. Now, let’s talk specifics. Ratajkowski wore her EB Denim Scout Bermuda Shorts ($280) with a simple Cotton On Ellie Tube Top ($20) and finished off the look with Vans Old Skool Sneakers ($70) and a Loewe Luna Bag ($2100). Sydney Sweeney Just Wore the New Madewell It Jeans That’ll Sell Out by September

    [ad_1]

In case you were wondering which pair of jeans you should add to your wardrobe next, Sydney Sweeney is here to provide a little help with that—whether she meant to or not. Sweeney was photographed in Malibu this week wearing the perfect pair of baggy, low-rise jeans, and they retail for just $138. (In this day and age, that’s considered a deal for denim.)

The jeans and cropped tank she wore with them are from stylist Molly Dickson’s new capsule collection for Madewell. The denim-focused collaboration includes overalls, denim skirts, cargo jeans, shorts, denim jackets, and a bralette, all of which are as cool as the looks that Dickson puts together for celebs like Sweeney herself, Camila Mendes, Lucy Hale, and Sadie Sink.

One of the standouts from the collection is Sweeney’s low-rise jeans, and given the buzz around it all, I’m sure they’re headed for a swift sell-out. (FYI—the jeans are a bit long with a 32-inch inseam, so 5’3″ Sweeney paired hers with platform shoes because she’s a smart fashion person.)

I’m Shocked That This $80 Abercrombie Bag Hasn’t Gone Completely Viral Yet

    [ad_1]

Every now and again, when I’m endlessly scrolling through products from retailer after retailer and visiting every boutique, flagship, and flea market in New York City, I come across an item that truly shocks me. It’s not because of any one attribute, but rather, all of the attributes that combine to create a truly epic find. It’s rare, so when you do find something that fits the bill, you act on it—fast.

Such a discovery is exactly what I stumbled upon during a recent trip to Abercrombie’s new flagship store on Fifth Avenue. But it wasn’t a pair of trousers, dress, or top that impressed me most. It was a bag—a big, black, braided bag that looked more like a designer purse than an $80 accessory from a store most known for its apparel. And yet, I was blown away by the quality, style, and overall viral potential. Below, see why I’m hyping up this Abercrombie bag so much and shop it before it sells out.

  • Gigi Hadid Wore Ballet Flats in the Most Non-French Girl Way

Gigi Hadid Wore Ballet Flats in the Most Non-French Girl Way

    [ad_1]

It has become quite evident that the ballet flats shoe trend is here to stay for the long term, and I wholeheartedly support this notion. But I suspect that French women would argue that ballet flats are not just a trend but a wardrobe staple, considering they have been wearing them consistently for years (sometimes clichés hold true).

I bring this up because Gigi Hadid was recently photographed on the streets of New York, donning a pair of ballet flats. What she paired them with is noteworthy—and it differs quite a bit from how French girls typically style ballet flats.

Hadid matched her black Mansur Gavriel ballet flats with an oversized white button-down shirt and loose-fitting black trousers. The ensemble undeniably exuded a “New York” vibe. Conversely, the French often opt to pair ballet flats with skirts or dresses. While there are certainly exceptions to this, I frequently observe this pairing when French women sport ballet flats. Keep scrolling to see some examples for yourself and to explore my preferred ballet flats available on the market.

5 New Things Fashion People Are Talking About

    [ad_1]

If it seems like fashion news is moving at a mile a minute, well, you’re not alone. Despite our numerous social media feeds and perpetual press releases, it can be hard to keep up with the latest industry updates—even as full-time editors—which is why we’re trying something new and boiling it down to just the basics. Here are the five new things fashion people are talking about right now:

Emporio Armani Opens Its Flagship Store in NYC

New York City’s iconic shopping neighborhood, SoHo, is officially back on the grid thanks in part to the opening of exciting designer stores such as Emporio Armani’s new flagship at 134 Spring Street.

For this opening, Armani shot its global ad campaign in NYC featuring several eye-catching black and white images that serve as a tribute to the city. There is also an exclusive EA Soho collection that will be sold only in-store at the flagship location.

Chloé Unveils Store Redesigns at Bal Harbour, Wynn, and Saks Fifth Avenue NYC

Chloé, one of the first certified B-corp luxury brands, has just unveiled its re-designed boutiques in Florida, Las Vegas, and New York. In line with the French brand’s commitment to environmental responsibility, the energy-efficient boutiques use recycled and lower-impact materials such as linen, stone, and other natural materials. Get an inside look at the stunning new stores here

An Auction Fit for Hollywood Royalty

Next month, Julien’s Auctions is auctioning off over 1,400 pieces of iconic Hollywood memorabilia. Items include three dresses worn by Princess Diana, a pink dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Lauren Bacall’s wedding ring from 1945, and a taffeta dress worn by Greta Garbo in Camille. See the full list of items here. The auction begins on September 6.

Clare Waight Keller Returns to Uniqlo

Following her exit from Givenchy in 2020, Clare Waight Keller—perhaps best known as Meghan Markle’s wedding dress designer—is ready to try something new with Uniqlo. Her new collection, dubbed Uniqlo: C, will be unveiled online and in 1500 stores beginning on September 15. The collection features 30 pieces with Waight Keller’s signature pleated fabrics and even vegan leather Chelsea boots priced at just under $60.

    Prepare for a Ferragamo Renaissance—Literally

The storied Italian heritage brand pays homage to its hometown with its Fall 2023 campaign in partnership with Florence’s Uffizi Gallery. Shot by esteemed Gen-Z photographer Tyler Mitchell, the campaign imagery features significant artistic works, such as Giorgio Vasari’s Portrait of Alessandro de Medici, as a backdrop for everything from sharply-tailored suits to elegant formalwear. Every single image (and every piece in the collection) is truly a sight to behold.

  • Celebrity Interior Designer Jake Arnold Shares His Best Design Advice

Celebrity Interior Designer Jake Arnold Shares His Best Design Advice

    [ad_1]

I’m hoping you can walk me through that creative and aesthetic journey and how long it took you to understand what you really liked, what your design sensibilities were, and how to ensure it was cohesive.

In the beginning, you say yes to everything. You bite your tongue, and you keep it moving. When I first started, I’d worked for other people. It was at a time where I think Instagram and social media was not as prevalent as it is today. I was able to hone in on what I was attracted to and what I liked.

Growing up in England, where it’s all rooted in tradition and everything has a purpose, meaning, and context, and then coming to Los Angeles, where you can build and do whatever you want— that’s why I was so drawn to coming here. You really could express creativity on a personal level.

Because of the context here, you can do what you want. The landscape allows you to have an English Tudor next to a Spanish revival house. It’s really all over the map.

I think, at the beginning, when I started, I was always drawn to darker, more layered cozy spaces because that’s what I grew up around. Everyone here at the time was doing beachy, and everything was blues—that kind of California beach vibe at the time. I was painting people’s rooms black. I think a huge part of it was risk-taking. But I was also very fortunate that I met people along the way who inspired me and expanded my horizons.

Two of my first-ever clients—one being Julianne Hough and one being Katherine Powers—really evolved my style. I think it’s just important to, along the way, while you’re honing in your craft, to be very open to being inspired and allowing yourself to evolve through others.

  • Meghan Markle Wore the Skinny Jeans I Now Seriously Regret Getting Rid Of

Meghan Markle Wore the Skinny Jeans I Now Seriously Regret Getting Rid Of

    [ad_1]

When I was 19, I worked in a small clothing boutique that sold a surprisingly impressive designer assortment for a college town such as mine. On the ready-to-wear side, its racks were lined with Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Lauren Manoogian, and Samuji. And for denim, we exclusively sold Frame Denim, the brand every LA and NYC fashion girl was wearing at the time. I adored every pair from the brand and too often spent my entire paycheck on jeans.

One pair, in particular, that I bought and subsequently wore roughly three times a week every summer for years, was Frame’s Le Skinny de Jeanne style in white. When I graduated and moved to New York, I left a ton of clothing items behind, donating most of them and selling the rest. Those jeans were one of the pieces I parted ways with, an act I’m now very much regretting after spotting the exact same pair on none other than Meghan Markle.

Markle was seen exiting an office in Montecito, California wearing arguably the chicest, most luxurious outfit I’ve ever seen, consisting of a camel-colored robe coat, a cream sweater, an Hermès shawl, Chanel slingbacks, and an oversize, all-white Goyard tote. But even with all of that draped on her, the fashion item that my eyes were immediately drawn to were her jeans, the same exact pair of white Frame skinnies that I owned in college. Envious, I immediately started searching the internet for a pair to replace the ones I got rid of five years ago.

Below, check out Markle’s utterly elegant errands outfit and shop the closest pair of Frame jeans I could find to the now sold-out Le Skinny de Jeannes.

The Kate Moss Way to Make Simple Ballet Flats Look Cool

    [ad_1]

Kate Moss is a perennial beacon of style, so when she steps out in even the most casual outfits, we tend to take notice. Recently, the supermodel was spotted wearing a seemingly off-season look during a rainy day in London. Clad in baggy cargo pants, a black turtleneck sweater, and a water repelling trench coat, Moss capped off her look with a pair of super simple black ballet flats. And guess what? She still manages to look supremely chic, despite the inclement weather.

So, while this look may bit a little too layered for the hotter-than-average summer temperatures we’re experiencing stateside, that doesn’t mean it’s too early to add this outfit to our fall fashion mood board. Ahead, shop a selection of green cargo pants, black sweaters, chic trench coats, and of course, classic ballet flats so you can copy Kate Moss’ casual look any day of the week.

Umbrellas are optional but encouraged—especially if you’re having a good hair day.
