Drop Everything—These VMA Beauty Looks Are the Best We’ve Ever Seen

    [ad_1]

When it comes to memorable moments, the MTV VMAs has the market cornered. Every year, the VMAs give us an essential new piece of pop culture history. Think of every major moment the VMAs have given us—Britney performing with a python, Lady Gaga wearing a meat dress, Beyoncé announcing her first pregnancy, and more.

This year, we expect all the drama and flair that usually comes with the VMAs, but our eyes are turned to something else: the beauty looks. In the realm of award shows, most play it fairly tame with beauty: think smoky eyes, polished chignons, and classic lips. The VMAs, on the other hand, are a totally different story.

Every year the the VMAs, celebrities take chances with their hair, makeup, and nails, and that’s what makes it one of our favorite nights. Last year alone, Taylor Swift showed up with face jewels on, Lil Nas X sported blue-toned eyes, and Chloë Bailey had 3-dimensional nails. Keep reading for the best beauty looks at the 2023 VMAs—I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Inside Ralph Lauren: Christy Turlington on the Runway and J.Lo in the Front Row

    [ad_1]

After decamping to Los Angeles for a spectacular show last season, Ralph Lauren made a triumphant return to the New York calendar on Friday. After all, what is NYFW without the Bronx-born designer? Lauren and NYC go together like PB&J. To no one’s surprise, the legendary brand attracted dozens of A-list celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez, Diane Keaton, Sofia Richie, Gabrielle Union, and others.

The runway was similarly starry, with Christy Turlington, Natalia Vodianova, and Mariacarla Boscono walking the show. Talk about a night full of icons. The only thing better than the celebrity and supermodel appearances? The fantastic designs.

Ralph Lauren described the collection in a statement: “My Spring 2024 women’s collection is about a new kind of romance—cool and sophisticated,” he said. “It’s about the freedom of creating a personal style through the artistry of faded denims and painterly florals, the modern sophistication of iconic shapes in black and gold, or the eclectic mix of bold colors, shine, and luxurious handcrafted details.”

Zoe Saldaña’s Jeans-and-Flats Outfit Is the Picture of Parisian Chic

    [ad_1]

Whether walking a red carpet or traversing the aisles of Erewhon, Zoe Saldaña’s outfits give constant inspiration. Recently, Saldaña was spotted with her husband, Marco Perego, leaving the buzzy Santa Monica grocery store in a casual weekend denim look, complete with a black and white striped tee and single-strap Mary Jane shoes. If not for the lush greenery (and proximity to the celeb-favorite smoothie destination), we would think that this photo of Saldaña was snapped on the streets of Paris.

Although simple—just three versatile pieces—Saldaña’s look epitomizes Parisian chic. And, with thousands of striped long-sleeve shirts, wide-leg jeans, and black leather flats to be found, there are endless ways to mix and match these wardrobe staples to achieve her laid-back weekend look.

Ahead, shop a few of our favorite shoes, jeans, and long sleeves that are fit for a stroll along the Seine. Or the Venice canals. Or your local supermarket. Whatever’s closest. Just don’t forget a reusable tote!

How Celebrating Her Latinx Heritage Led Babba C. Rivera to Create Ceremonia

    [ad_1]

Babba C. Rivera is an anomaly. She is an innovator, a style icon, and now at the helm of the haircare industry. As the founder and CEO of Ceremonia, a clean-haircare brand rooted in her Latinx heritage, Rivera is redefining what haircare should look and feel like—ultimately proving the notion that some of the most successful companies are built when there is a personal connection behind the brand concept.

Ceremonia’s inception in 2020 marked the beginning of a transformative venture. It all started with a scalp oil inspired by cherished childhood rituals and her father’s early career as a hairdresser in Chile. Fast-forward to today, Ceremonia boasts an impressive range of 20 products, including a foray into the world of fragrances. One of the pivotal moments in Ceremonia’s journey was the brand becoming the first Latinx-founded haircare brand available at Sephora, a milestone that reflects its immense popularity and Rivera’s unwavering commitment to her mission. • Sofia Richie Just Showed Off the Only Chic Way to Do 97° Weather

Sofia Richie Just Showed Off the Only Chic Way to Do 97° Weather

    [ad_1]

If you’re in New York City or follow anyone on Instagram or TikTok who is, you’re probably already all too aware of the temperature situation. It’s New York Fashion Week, which means that everyone remotely involved in the industry is running around the city, attending presentations, runway shows, and parties, all the while dealing with near-100º temps, equally high levels of humidity, and intermittent thunderstorms and periods of blazing-hot sunshine. We’re surviving, sure, but it’s most definitely not comfortable.

That being said, everyone’s on high alert when it comes to chic hot-weather outfits, scanning the crowds outside of shows for inspiration on what to wear to beat the heat. And while I don’t usually like to brag, I’m happy to do so right now after I spotted Sofia Richie Grainge wearing the perfect (albeit unexpected) garment for every New Yorkers’ current predicament: a nightgown. Specifically, a Prada nightgown from the Italian brand’s spring ’23 runway collection, which she paired with a burgundy Hermès Kelly bag and matching velvet Mary-Jane flats. She also accessorized with chunky gold hoops, black sunglasses, and a classic silver timepiece. The caption on her photos of the look? “97 in NYC = Prada night gown.”

Though I sadly won’t be able to quite afford Richie’s off-the-runway nightgown, the look is certainly inspiring me to get creative with my styling, putting aside normal dressing rules and picking out items that feel comfortable in this weather—even if they are typically worn to bed. If you have the right bag and shoes, after all, anything’ll look chic. Scroll down to see Richie’s 97º outfit and shop the growing nightgown trend.

  • The $89 Nordstrom Dress I Just Overnighted to Copy Laura Harrier’s NYFW LBD

The $89 Nordstrom Dress I Just Overnighted to Copy Laura Harrier’s NYFW LBD

    [ad_1]

New York Fashion Week always comes with a bevy of stylish outfit inspiration, whether it’s coming from editors, influencers, stylists, runway collections, or celebrities. Attendees and designers alike work for weeks and even months to perfect what’s displayed during the week-long event, so of course, the resulting ensembles are often a huge success. But sometimes, style during fashion week can err a bit on the overtop side. And since my style sways more minimal than maximal, I always appreciate when someone debuts an outfit that whispers instead of screams.

One such person is Laura Harrier, who attended a NYFW kick-off party for Fossil wearing a deep-V, polo-neck LBD that featured breast pockets and a maxi hemline with a gold chain necklace and black boots. The look is just the sort I talk endlessly about to my friends and coworkers, swooning over the timeless appeal and sexy yet sophisticated elegance of it all. Luckily, it didn’t take me long to find an $89 similarly polo-neck black dress from Nordstrom’s in-house label Open Edit, a brand every editor keeps in their back pocket, that gives off a near-exact vibe to Harrier’s. And with NYFW still very much going strong, I simply have to have it to wear, like, tomorrow. Shop the LBD I’m overnighting for my own fashion-week events and more gorgeous black dresses for fall below.

  • The 20 Most Closet-Transforming Pieces From J.Crew’s New “September Collection”

The 20 Most Closet-Transforming Pieces From J.Crew’s New “September Collection”

    [ad_1]

The designers at J.Crew have clearly been busy, as the brand just dropped tons of epic new fall pieces. Their latest collection is called “The September Collection” (see what they did there?), and I immediately added multiple pieces to my cart as I scrolled through. I was overwhelmed by how much chic stuff there was to choose from so I figured other J.Crew shoppers may be too. Accordingly, I made a little shopping list to help us all out.

Among the offerings are chic outerwear, sophisticated pieces for nights out, lightweight fall sweaters, trend-forward shoes, and a whole lot more. I predict the TK pieces I’m putting the spotlight on below won’t be in stock for long (that seems to be the norm at J.Crew lately, as the popularity is through the roof), so I won’t waste any more of your shopping time. • “Champagne Cheeks” Are Venice Film Festival’s Most Notable Beauty Trend (So Far)

“Champagne Cheeks” Are Venice Film Festival’s Most Notable Beauty Trend (So Far)

    [ad_1]

This year, we’ve seen a slew of food and drink-inspired makeup trends. As it turns out, you can create a beauty look based on all of your favorite foods—whether it’s tomatoes, strawberries, dirty martinis, or glazed donuts. The world is your oyster (oyster girl makeup coming soon?).

Next on the docket, apparently, is champagne. More specifically, “champagne cheeks” swept the Venice Film Festival. Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Madisin Rian, and India Amarteifio all sported champagne cheeks at Armani’s One Night Only Haute Couture Prive Show.

What exactly are champagne cheeks? The latest trend is actually a highlighter technique. For champagne cheeks, you’ll want to use a champagne-toned highlighter—think a gold-toned beige—and sweep it all over your cheeks. The result is radiant while still being subtle.

In Venice, Sweeney, Apatow, Rian, and Amarteifio all used the exact same product to create this champagne-kissed effect. The product in question is Armani’s Fluid Sheer Glow Enhancer in the color Champagne Gold.

6 Fall Trends Olivia Rodrigo Brings Back Every Year

    [ad_1]

Olivia Rodrigo has quickly become a Gen Z style icon, effortlessly blending elements of vintage and contemporary fashion. One of her favorite trends to wear is the revival of ’90s grunge. She often wears oversize flannel shirts paired with miniskirts and her favorite Dr. Martens combat boots. Rodrigo also loves to incorporate bold statement accessories like chunky silver jewelry and studded belts to add a unique touch to her outfits.

When it comes to her favorite brands, Rodrigo has shown a preference for high-end brands, sustainable fashion labels, and affordable retailers. She’s been spotted in designer pieces from Gucci to Prada on the red carpet, displaying a more glamorous side to her style. However, she also champions eco-conscious brands like Reformation and Stella McCartney, highlighting her commitment to sustainability. Law, whose parents are Jude Law and Sadie Frost, and Moss, whose mother is Kate Moss, just attended Victoria’s Secret’s red carpet celebration of The Tour ’23.

For the event, the BFFs wore matching sheer minidresses and angel wings. • Dakota Johnson’s Pretty Maxi Dress Just Inspired My Newest Purchase

Dakota Johnson’s Pretty Maxi Dress Just Inspired My Newest Purchase

    [ad_1]

The history of crochet maxi dresses can be traced back to the 1960s and 1970s when the bohemian fashion movement was at its peak. Crochet, a technique that involves creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn with a hooked needle, became immensely popular during this era. Maxi dresses, characterized by their long, flowing designs, were also in style. The combination of crochet and maxi dresses was a natural evolution, as it was comfortable, airy, and stylish—perfect for the free-spirited vibe of the time. Today, crochet maxi dresses continue to be a timeless fashion choice, as Dakota Johnson just proved.

Photographed at Telluride Film Festival, Johnson wore a Chloé dress that’s giving me strong Stevie Nicks vibes. She finished the outfit with a Gucci Jackie bag—named after Jackie Kennedy, another ’60s icon—and a Jessica McCormack necklace. The Most Iconic ’90s Outfits in VMAs History

    [ad_1]

After a dearth of red-carpet events thanks to the ongoing SAG strike, I’m absolutely looking forward to the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday, September 12. While every decade has had its fair share of iconic looks at the event, the ’90s take the cake in my opinion. When else could you see Pamela Anderson in a gigantic pink hat, Destiny’s Child in matching sherbert-hued looks, and Gwen Stefani in a furry bra?

Below, I rounded up my favorite ’90s looks in VMA history. Here’s a hint of what to expect: The Spice Girls in their prime, Madonna in an elaborate costume for a performance, Jennifer Lopez in a sparkly top, and Cindy Crawford in a thoroughly modern outfit that could have been worn yesterday. While it’s no Wimbledon as far as an unofficial dress code is concerned, people (especially celebrities) still dress in their casual best—Katie Holmes included. Holmes took to the stands for a recent match dressed in a perfect fall outfit that’s good and easy enough to be worn over and over.

The simple and chic outfit consisted of a tank top, jeans, and a polo-neck sweater from Miu Miu that she tied around her shoulders, as it was a warm day. Charlize Theron Just Made Flats Look So Dang Fancy on the Red Carpet

    [ad_1]

I’m certainly not an Oscar-winning actress, but I do have one thing in common with Charlize Theron: we’re both 5’10”. As a fellow tall gal, I know the struggle of making flats look polished enough for a night out. People seem to equate heels with dressy occasions, but they are far from the only options you have. To wit: Theron’s newest appearance in New York City.

Attending the opening of Breitling’s new store in the Meatpacking District, Theron wore an oversized blazer, pearl-embellished top, and silky maxi skirt. Other than her sparkling Breitling watch, her strappy flats immediately caught my attention. With this look, Theron just proved once and for all that flats can indeed look fancy. If they’re good enough for the red carpet, they’re good enough for me! Scroll down to re-create Charlize Theron’s newest outfit.

Megan Fox Just Debuted “Red Velvet” Hair—This $19 Hair Dye Is Responsible

    [ad_1]

In case you haven’t heard, red is the color of the season. We’re seeing red everywhere, from the runways to the streets. People are adding pops of red into their wardrobes with bags, shoes, and other statement clothing pieces. In the beauty world, red nails and red lipstick are taking centerstage, and “cowboy copper” hair is all over TikTok. Vibrant red hasn’t woven its way into hair color yet—that is, until now.

There are very few people who can make fire engine red hair look impossibly chic. One of those people? Megan Fox. Fox stepped out today sporting a new shade of bright red hair. Her stylist and colorist Dimitris Giannetos is dubbing the shade “red velvet.” It’s a sharp departure from her usual dark strands, but Fox pulls it off flawlessly (as she would with any hair color).

  • How a Cold Email Led to Fashion Designer Clare Vivier’s First Book Deal

How a Cold Email Led to Fashion Designer Clare Vivier’s First Book Deal

    [ad_1]

I’m wondering if you could tell me a story about a product that feels magical to you in some way, something that had a resonance that you weren’t necessarily expecting.

La Tropezienne tote, for me, still holds a very special place in my heart. It is one of my very first totes, and I made it myself when I had a blog. I was just starting to sew on leather, and I was contacted by a woman who previously had a bag line in Los Angeles. She contacted me out of the blue and said, “I’ve got some leather to sell. Would you be interested in coming to see my studio? I’ve closed up my business, and I’m selling leather.” I was like, “Sure, I’ll go to your studio.” I bought a few hides of this beautiful vegetable-tanned Italian leather. I made the first sample of the tote called La Tropezienne.

To me, it just epitomized a lovely tote from the South of France, which was why I called it La Tropezienne, and it’s just very simple. It was a little twist on the classic boat tote. I made the tote, and then I put it on my blog, and I said, “I’ve got your summer tote,” knowing that I could probably make another 10 out of the materials that I had purchased. Just based on that one photo, I sold the 10 immediately. It was the first time that I was like, “Wow, this is like internet wildfire.” I was like, “Oh my god, what am I gonna do? I’ve sold out of them.” And then I was like, “I’m gonna go back to that woman and buy the rest of it.” I bought the rest of her hides. I made—I don’t know—50 totes and sold out of them all so quickly.

It’s so funny because then I was like, “Now, I’m done with that leather. Well, that’s a bummer. Now, what do I do?” And my husband’s like, “Find that leather. What do you have to do?” I found a vendor in New York City that sold the same leather and started to make La Tropezienne.
