Gas prices are up again this week in South Florida as drivers get back to work Tuesday after the three-day holiday.
Prices have been up and down so far in 2026. But Miami-area prices remain under $3 a gallon and are more than 11 cents lower than a month ago and 35 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy, a national fuel monitoring service that surveys nearly 1,700 stations in South Florida.
North Florida remains the cheapest to get gas in the state. Naples and Palm Beach County are among the most expensive areas, according to AAA.
Here’s what to know if you’re commuting or traveling in Florida:
Gas prices in South Florida
Miami-Dade: The average price: $2.79 on Tuesday, Jan. 20, a 5-cent increase from last week, according to AAA.
Fort Lauderdale: $2.81, a 6-cent increase from last week.
West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $2.94, an 8-cent increase from last week.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas in Florida on Tuesday, Jan. 20, according to AAA, is $2.75, an 8-cent increase from last week.

Average: The average price for a gallon of gas across the country on Tuesday, Jan. 20, according to AAA, is $2.82, a 3-cent increase from last week.
What the experts are saying
▪ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “After seven straight weeks of declines, the national average price of gasoline has moved higher, breaking the streak as oil prices have climbed back near $60 per barrel after dipping into the mid-$50s. There’s still a window of opportunity to revisit — or even beat —recent gas price lows, but that window will begin to close soon. California will soon start transitioning back to cleaner summer gasoline, with most of the rest of the country following in a little over a month. However, with a surplus of winter gasoline built up after large inventory increases in recent weeks, we’re likely to see localized discounts as that fuel is cleared from the system before the seasonal rise becomes more organized in the weeks ahead.”

There’s an app to help: The GasBuddy app was built to show motorists prices around them and a fuel tracker can update users on stations that have or don’t have fuel based on supply changes.
