First H.E.L.P. and FirstNet®, Built with AT&T, have teamed up to provide first responders in communities throughout New Mexico with world-class mental health training through First H.E.L.P.’s #ResponderReadiness Workshop Series.

September 6-8 Guardian Initiatives and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office will host First H.E.L.P. for a series of Mental Health and Wellness Workshops for area First Responders. First H.E.L.P. will provide two 4-hour #ResponderReadiness Workshops where participants explore the impact that operational stress and trauma has on their careers and families. They will use scenario-based training to practice difficult conversations about mental health and suicide prevention and they learn to practice First H.E.L.P.’s R.A.N.G.E. of Resilience. In addition to the two #ResponderReadiness workshops, there is a 4-hour #SupervisorReadiness Workshop for managers and a 4-hour #ProviderReadiness Workshop for area Mental Health Providers who serve First Responders.

According to First H.E.L.P.’s Executive Director and Co-Founder, Steven Hough, “Mental preparedness is always at the forefront for first responders; 1st H.E.L.P. provides essential information allowing these professionals to maintain optimal balance between the community they represent, the agency they work with, and most importantly, the family at home.”

AT&T is working to ease the burden for communities by providing high-quality training to New Mexico’s first responders at no cost. FirstNet is the only nationwide, high-speed broadband communications platform dedicated to and purpose-built for America’s first responders and the extended public safety community. Shaped by the vision of Congress and the first responder community following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, FirstNet is built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority,  an independent agency within the federal government.

“AT&T’s commitment to our public safety community goes beyond our FirstNet network connectivity,” said Dr. Anna Courie, DPN, RN, PHNA-BC, Director, Responder Wellness, FirstNet Program at AT&T. “We are dedicated to working with First H.E.L.P. to bring mental health resources to first responders across the country—especially in rural areas with limited access. This program with First H.E.L.P. will better equip first responders mentally and physically and help our public safety community stay safer.”

The training program reinforces the strategic priorities established by the FirstNet Health and Wellness Coalition (FNHWC) to support first responders and their families. The mission of the FNHWC is to integrate responder, community, industry, and academic capabilities to support the health, wellness, and readiness of American first responders.

First H.E.L.P. and FirstNet®, Built with AT&T, have teamed up to provide first responders in communities throughout America with a world-class mental health resource through First H.E.L.P.’s week long #MissionReadyRetreats

Each #MissionReadyRetreats provides up to 15 First Responders from across the nation the opportunity to come together for a seven-day resilience-building retreat. The program emphasizes what First H.E.L.P. calls the 3Ps of Responder Readiness: Performance, Persistence, and Prevention. Thanks to FirstNet – Built with AT&T, First Responders can participate in this incredible opportunity at absolutely no cost to the agency or the individual.

Using individual mindfulness practices, facilitated discussions, and group activities, the retreat provides more than 48 hours of structured learning and development events. #ResponderReadiness explores how stress impacts their lives, how to build resilience, and how to communicate more effectively at work and home. During Alternative Stress Learning, the group participates in an activity such as leatherworking or woodworking to explore a healthy stress coping practice. Mindfulness practices, journaling, healthy meals, and fireside conversations round out the curriculum.  Participants also practice healthy rest and sleep habits. They detach from the digital world and immerse themselves into a healthy environment.

“Our nation’s first responders work tirelessly, selflessly serving their communities. That day-to-day grind takes a toll on their physical, emotional, and mental well-being,” says Robert Winner, First H.E.L.P.’s Retreat Director. He goes on to say, “We have designed this retreat in a way that combines research-based instruction on developing resilience and healthy living with an opportunity to recharge and reset in a peer-based environment. When participants leave the retreat and return to their Agencies, they will be ‘Mission Ready!’”

The organization conducted their first #MissionReadinessRetreats in May and has two more scheduled for 2022.  #MRREast: Charles Town, WV, July 21-27 and #MRRWest: Cle Elum, WA, October 23-28. Interested? Register on First H.E.L.P.’s website: 1sthelp.org/mission-ready-retreats/

First H.E.L.P. and FirstNet®, Built with AT&T, have teamed up to provide first responders in communities throughout Arizona with world-class mental health training through First H.E.L.P.’s #ResponderReadiness Workshop Series.

On July 18-20 Chandler Police Department will host a series of Mental Health and Wellness Workshops for area First Responders. According to First H.E.L.P.’s CEO and Co-Founder, Dr. Jeffrey McGill, “Providing awareness and practical tools can help first responders perform at their best throughout their career, benefitting the responder, their family, their agency, and the community they serve.”

Since 2016, First H.E.L.P. has consistently tracked law enforcement suicides throughout the nation and in 2021, opened their efforts to include all first responders. The State of Arizona has lost at least 18 First Responders to suicide since 2017.

Miami residents experienced a tragedy on June 24 when Champlain Towers South fell. The 40-year-old building fell at 1:30 a.m., resulting in individuals and families missing. Sadly, there were 60 deaths reported along with 80 people who have been unaccounted for. Rescue operations have been ongoing for several weeks now. There are many people at the site of this tragedy who have lost their loved ones, and they need comfort and answers. Some listlessly watch rescue and construction crews sift through the fallen condo wreckage. La Granja Restaurants has volunteered to be a helping hand and extension of aid to those working at the site for long hours. They are delivering meals onsite to first responders.

President Joe Biden and Governor Ron DeSantis visited the site to offer condolences and hope for the families. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava has frequently been updating the major media outlets on the excavation progress made. “The demolition of the building is going to proceed based on the recommendations of the engineers,” she said. “It’s going to take, most likely, weeks.”

La Granja Restaurants was more than happy to provide 500 meals to those who are working around the clock to find survivors, providing hope and comfort in a warm meal.

Ivan Tucker, also known as The Chicken King of Miami, along with the La Granja family worked together to prepare the meals that were welcomed with much love and gratitude from the first responders. La Granja just opened this restaurant last year at 6144 S Dixie Highway in Miami, just south of SW 72nd Street.

La Granja’s staple meal is 1/4 Chicken with rice and beans, which is the complete meal of choice most popular for lunch and dinners. Fried plantains and soda can also be added to these meals. La Granja’s Menu includes Lomo Saltado, Chicken, Ceviche, Jalea, and Caribbean Whole Snapper.

A favorite dish at La Granja is its traditional Rotisserie Peruvian Chicken called “pollo a la brasa,” slow roasted for two hours on a rotisserie machine.

La Granja at 6144 S. Dixie Hwy is open for lunch and dinners. Delivery is available via DoorDash and GrubHub. Call (786) 558-8702.

La Granja Restaurants are located throughout Florida from Orange County to Miami Dade County. La Granja owes their expansion to their delicious cuisine, outstanding customer service and affordable prices. Over the last 20 years, they have opened their doors in several locations including Kissimmee, Apopka, Palm Beach, Downtown Miami and Orlando. La Granja has won awards such as “The Best Family Style Peruvian Restaurant”. They offer authentic affordable Latin cuisine. Customers love their grilled steak, grilled chicken, and fajitas.

    Press Release

    updated: May 24, 2021

It’s been a long year for everyone, but no more so than our first responders. In recognition of the tireless service of these workers, Thinline Anthem is now offering them the best gift of all – a good night’s rest.

Thinline Anthem is a family-owned health supplement company created by a son honoring the service of his firefighter father. Their mission is to support the physical and mental health of “Thinline Heroes,” aka police, fire, EMS, 911 dispatchers, nurses, corrections officers, military and any other heroes that put their lives on the line daily for the safety of others.

“Thinline Heroes are overworked and underappreciated. During these times, they need our love and support more than ever. Because of our brand mission and the generosity of our amazing customers, we are able to provide free product to these dedicated men and women,” said Thinline Anthem founder Dan McBride.

Any verified first responder personnel who signs up on the website will receive a free bottle of Night Shift, the powerful sleep aid that has been helping these workers get some badly needed shut-eye.

Night Shift contains a proprietary blend of herbs and minerals linked to lowering stress and promoting deep, restful sleep. This includes Mucuna Pruriens used in Ayurvedic medicine that contains high levels of L-dopa thought to increase dopamine levels. McBride says workers who have tried it report waking up fully rested and not feeling groggy.

In addition, they will receive a 20% lifetime discount on all other supplements and an additional 10-15% off subscription packages. They will also be eligible for exclusive promotions and more.

“With this small gesture, we hope to improve the mental and physical health of our essential workers,” McBride added.

    About Thinline Anthem

Thinline Anthem was created by Dan McBride, who credits his firefighting father and his own personal experience in the field as the motivating force behind the vision. McBride, himself a volunteer firefighter, had a career in law enforcement as a corrections officer.

Their goal is not only to create game-changing products but also to offer support to those on the front lines of health and safety. The company donates a portion of every sale to non-profit organizations like Next Rung & Blue H.E.L.P.  that focus on our first responder mental health. They also make regular contributions to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

“We look at our company as something that surpasses a vitamins and supplement brand. It’s a community, a support group and a family.”

New Facility Will Provide Greater Level of Services to First Responders Nationwide

    Press Release

    updated: Apr 14, 2021

First Responders Resiliency, Inc. (FRRI), a ground-breaking nonprofit dedicated to training first responders and their families, is pleased to announce a Capital Campaign to build the first-of-its-kind First Responder Resiliency Center in Sonoma County, California.

Founded in 2018, FRRI’s award-winning, proactive behavioral wellness program has since signed a two-year contract with CAL FIRE, trained more than 4,200 first responders and their families nationwide, and is set to train nearly 1,000 more before the end of 2021. With the support of researchers, nurses, doctors and therapists, the program is run entirely by retired first responders who realized the reactive programs offered to them in the past were not creating lasting change to rates of depression, disability or suicide within the first responder community.

This center will profoundly transform the lives of first responders by providing a designated location for first responders to receive the support they so desperately need to mitigate the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Injuries. First responders will continue to benefit from their centralized conferences, educational programs, physical resiliency training and immediate access to trauma therapists, holistic modalities, support groups and workers comp assistance.

The campaign was launched by an anonymous donation of $100,000 with the hopes of raising nearly $9 million to complete the center.

Donations are being collected through GoFundMe.

Charity Pros for Heroes Virtual Fundraiser to Support the Children of Fallen Heroes

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 31, 2021

Rosanne Cash, Lance Bass, Ziggy Marley and John Fogerty are just a few of the stars coming together to honor the front-line healthcare workers and first responders that died of Covid-19. The “Charity Pros for Heroes” live virtual event will salute the Heroes of the pandemic and raise funds to help provide educational scholarships and grant the children of the fallen heroes a special “Megan’s Wish”.

“Every day, we learn of incredible stories of these children nationwide who are dealing with the effects of losing their parent,” explains Megan Maloney, founder of The Charity Pros. “These Heroes went to work every day during our darkest times of the pandemic and gave their lives while protecting us from the very fate they suffered, Covid-19.”

Megan, a budding young philanthropist by day and food server by night, founded the Ft Myers non-profit just prior to the pandemic to advocate for children’s social causes and help provide kids opportunities for a better life. However, once the pandemic hit, Megan changed up the programming after the death toll started to rise. “My dad lost two friends in the first few months of the pandemic from Covid, including childhood friend, Naples firefighter Tony Christensen. “Tony’s funeral really hit my dad, I think it made it real for a lot of people, we knew then that we wanted to help make a difference.”

Charity Pros for Heroes will honor those like Bryant, a firefighter from Converse, TX, that leaves behind his two small children and Tawauna, a nurse from Kettering, Ohio, that leaves behind six children and her newborn that she never got to hold. “It’s heartbreaking that many of these kids never got to say goodbye to their mother or father, their Hero,” continues Megan, “sadly despite all the fundraising, these kids have been forgotten, we need to help.”

In a time when celebrities are being inundated with requests, the Charity Pros have been able to gather support of many artists. “We started emailing artist management and immediately had support, It’s just been a blessing how some managers have really embraced the cause,” adds Megan, “they share it with the artist and if there is passion, they support it, there is no better feeling, we are so grateful.”

Sponsors of all levels can still get involved in the live virtual broadcast. A sponsor can co-host a segment, announce the next artist, or go live to present a check, contact megan@thecharitypros.org today.

Charity Pros for Heroes will be broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook, April 6, 2021 at 8:30 EST, featuring special appearances from Rosanne Cash, Ziggy Marley, John Fogerty, Lance Bass, Kevin Cronin (REO), Kelly Hansen (Foreigner), Don Felder, Andy Grammer, Andrea Barber, Michael Franti, Tiera, Jawan M. Jackson, Danny Arroyo, Drew Baldridge, Ben Allen and more added daily.

Elide Fire USA’s Mission is to bring Innovative Elide Fire Technology to the front-line of fire fighting in North America. Specifically, The Elide Fire Extinguishing Ball, a Revolutionary new product that will bring an additional line of defense to fire prevention and suppression solutions. We are devoted to making the world a safer place by providing innovative firefighting solutions that reduce property damage, environmental damage and most importantly reduce the loss of life.

New Frontiers in Fire Safety is a compelling TV series that explores cutting-edge companies that are innovating our world’s fire safety field. New Frontiers is an educational series in short documentary form to be featured on TV and on-demand TV.

Planet TV Studios produces cutting-edge, real-life, television series that features insightful, meaningful updates on the most important topics currently taking place in areas most important to our lives. Planet TV Studios is a leading content creation company successful in films, television, documentaries, commercials and docudramas.

Elide Fire USA manufacturers a revolutionary self-activating device designed to extinguish fire, providing a much needed additional line of defense for fighting fires.

The technology behind the Elide Fire Extinguishing Ball is the only passive and active device available. Passive meaning that it is mounted and fixed. When the flame hits the ball, it is activated and dispersing a radius of mono ammonium phosphate powder that distinguishes the fire. This is immediate within 3-5 seconds and the fire will be out. This is totally unique and innovative to the fire suppression prevention business because it activates on flame. For example, if you are not home and the fire starts, the ball will activate and put out the fire. Thus you won’t walk home to a house that is burnt down rather you will walk home to a house that has damage, but it will have suppressed and prevented the fire from going any further.

Super Soccer Stars Announces Up to 5,000 Free Online Classes to Front-Line Medical Workers and Affected Families Nationwide Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

    Press Release

    updated: May 13, 2020

Effective today, Soccer Stars has launched Soccer Stars for All, making available up to 5,000 open spots in its online classes free to front-line medical workers, families negatively impacted by school closures and families who can benefit from financial assistance.

“We recognize that families around the world are facing financial and workplace hardships due to the coronavirus pandemic and we want to help,” said Adam Geisler, Chief Executive Officer of Super Soccer Stars. “So we are thrilled to announce that we have launched our Soccer Stars for All initiative, which will make online classes more accessible to families whose caregivers are front line workers or are otherwise struggling to keep their children happy, healthy, active and engaged.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting “social distancing” efforts that have closed schools and recreation programs across the United States, Soccer Stars has stepped up their offerings of athletic coaching and activities for children by developing a digital curriculum, which keeps children’s bodies and minds active while at the same time incorporating socialization with coaches, classmates and teammates to encourage safe, social interaction.

“During the past two months when students remained home without being provided the physical education portion of their school’s mandate, Soccer Stars has actively invested in online video, live streaming coaching sessions and other digital activities in order to continue serving families, as we have done for the last 20 years,” said Geisler. “Like most small businesses, we have had to make many difficult decisions, but moving soccer classes online has allowed us to keep our coaches engaged and employed, and more than anything, they continue to make kids smile every day.”

The Soccer Stars for All initiative is providing up to 5,000 spots in virtual classes for children ages 1-12 and is taking place between May 20, 2020 and June 28, 2020.  Enrollment in current virtual classes with available capacity will be on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to one class per week per child throughout the duration of the program.

Families of front-line medical workers and those who are experiencing hardship as a result of the coronavirus pandemic who would like to apply for these classes can fill out the application online at https://bit.ly/3bhDBGW.

New York-based Super Soccer Stars was founded in 2000 and is the largest corporately run youth soccer program in the country. Super Soccer Stars’ goal is to use the soccer ball as a vehicle to help children improve their soccer skills while at the same time building self-confidence, enhancing gross motor skills, honing socialization skills, and developing physical literacy. Dynamic local and international coaches work with small groups of boys and girls to develop these skills and teamwork in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment. Super Soccer Stars operates in 25+ major markets reaching over 110,000 children each year. Additional information is available at http://www.soccerstars.com.

Flow Waterjet Repurposes Operations to Produce High-Grade Face Shields to Help Mitigate Spread of COVID-19

    Press Release

    updated: Apr 17, 2020

Flow International Corporation, the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of ultrahigh-pressure waterjet cutting systems, has repurposed its operations to produce face shields for medical workers, first responders and workers in essential businesses to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. The company is ramping production rapidly to where it will be producing more than 50,000 units per week by the end of this month. Flow does not expect to make a profit from this effort.

Flow’s face shields are constructed robustly for multiple use and cleaning primarily of high-grade Polyethylene Terephthalate modified with Glycol (PETG), a material commonly used in the manufacture of FDA-approved face shields, along with hypoallergenic foam padding that rests against the user’s forehead and an elastic band for “one size fits all” simplicity and comfort.

“The advanced technology of Flow’s waterjet systems allows us to cut any material to the most precise specifications, quickly and efficiently,” said the company’s Senior Technology Fellow and holder of over 100 U.S. and worldwide waterjet patents, Dr. Mohamed Hashish. “The unprecedented need for face shields was an easy transition for us because of our passionate associates, global access to the highest-quality materials, our on-site precision cutting and assembly, and shipping from our headquarters facilities here in Kent and from our operations center in Baxter Springs, Kansas.”

Flow has already delivered face shields locally to dozens of medical facilities and first responders and is receiving new orders daily from around the country. Flow’s face shields are available online for direct purchase and for third parties who wish to donate funds for production and drop shipment of face shields to recipients of their choice at www.flowwaterjet.com and www.flowforthefrontline.com. In addition, the company is making its technical specifications and detailed cutting and assembly instructions available to waterjet operators everywhere via download from the same website.

“Our priority is to be part of the solution during this extraordinarily difficult time,” said Brian Sherick, Flow’s Vice President of Global Sales. “That’s why we decided to make all documentation needed for any waterjet operator to produce the highest-quality face shields available, as efficiently as possible, so they can get to the people who need them the most.”

“We are in full production mode and will be making over 50,000 shields per week before the end of April,” said Sherick, “and with a customer base operating over 7,500 systems in North American alone, our ability to scale up quickly to meet demand through our broad network is significant.”

    Press Release

    updated: Sep 11, 2019

A seasoned financial coach, Chris Jackson is known for his financial management skills and strategies. He has been using his pro bono platform to provide free financial planning to members of the military and first responders. Considered a visionary by peers and clients, Chris Jackson’s strength lies in his ability to see the big picture, identify gaps and employ creative solutions to get people’s finances on track.

Chris Jackson was fortunate to have a friend whose father was a police officer that practically took him in as his own during a tough time in his life. He also personally saw the effects of PTSD and how it affected his military friends that came back from the Middle East.

Chris Jackson discovered that access to expert financial advice is limited to those with certain asset minimums or with higher income. This means living first responders and the military are on their own when making critical personal finance decisions. Chris Jackson was inspired by community policing programs and police activity leagues that aim to heal strained relations across the country between urban communities and cops, and he wanted to give back to those making the ultimate sacrifices. Hence, the creation of his own pro bono program for ex-servicemen.

Here is what some clients that have benefited from his pro bono platforms have to say. “Chris Jackson has been a tremendous help to me in a difficult landscape. As a new firefighter and recently engaged man, Chris Jackson has really set me up for success. His friendly demeanor, professional courtesy and informed decisions have given me an edge in planning for the future. I cannot speak highly enough of Mr. Jackson; it truly allows me to focus more on what I need to do to keep the public safe.” Max Palmer – CA Firefighter

“Chris has helped me organized my financial life so I can have a game plan for managing my expenses and debt. He has also helped me plan for life after my time in the military as I pursue becoming a professional poker player.” Pherris Ash – USAF Officer

Chris Jackson is currently assisting Brandon Byler and Matt Ruggiero, two police officers, produce their first board game called Code 3, which launches tomorrow at noon, and Chris hopes those looking to give back will go to the Kickstarter campaign to help back the project. Backers of the project will receive incentives that are indicated on the campaign page. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the National Fallen Officer Foundation.

Firefighter Wellness Goes High-Tech: Cordico Apps Target Stress and Trauma in the Fire Service

    [ad_1]

“The CordicoFire App puts a wealth of information and – most importantly – personal help at our firefighters’ fingertips to keep them mentally healthy,” said Fire Chief Kris Concepcion.

    Press Release

    updated: Sep 4, 2019

More than 7,000 firefighters surveyed overwhelmingly reported they’ve experienced stressful and traumatic experiences on the job, with 75% suffering ongoing mental or emotional issues as a result. As firefighters nationwide experience extreme stress, the First Responder Center for Excellence prepares to host the first-of-its-kind Fire Service Behavioral Health Symposium in Denver

Research reveals that firefighters experience elevated rates of depression, alcohol problems and repeated exposure to traumatic events resulting in sleep disorders, avoidance behaviors, and feelings of helplessness associated with PTSD. Additional symptoms of repeated traumatic exposure for firefighters include desensitization, irritability, cynicism and intrusive flashbacks. Studies also reveal that first responders often avoid seeking help for emotional problems and the majority who reach out for Employee Assistance Program support find it unhelpful.

Fire departments nationwide are looking for a strategic solution to strengthen firefighter wellness. Dixon Fire Chief Greg Lewis has achieved great success by providing his firefighters with a CordicoFire Wellness App. “The issue of mental wellness in public safety has been in a closet or ignored for far too many years,” said Chief Lewis. “By providing complete anonymity, 24/7 access, the ‘Wellness Tool Kit’ and self-assessment capabilities all from a personalized application right from a mobile phone, a large gap in the mental wellness issue has been addressed. Our staff is very grateful the City has given them this tool that can be used at any time by both the employee and their spouse.”

“We needed a proactive solution for firefighters everywhere,” said Dr. David Black, the CEO of Cordico. “Firefighters need 24/7 access to comprehensive and trusted wellness tools to manage the extreme stressors and demands they face. Our CordicoFire Apps give them powerful, on-demand tools targeting critical incidents, depression, insomnia, marital problems, trauma, suicide risk, and much more. We customize the app for departments of all sizes.”

Vacaville Fire Chief Kris Concepcion, who also provided his department with a CordicoFire Wellness App, said, “The Cordico app has been a game-changer for our fire department … I have received numerous personal ‘thank-yous’ from our firefighters since contracting with Cordico.”

Billy Goldfeder, the former Chair of the IAFC’s Safety, Health and Survival Section, has also spoken out about Cordico’s high-tech solution to strengthen firefighter wellness. “Assuring firefighters and other responders are emotionally prepared to take care of the public, when the public is having the worst day of their lives, is what keeps fire chiefs up at night – this unique and very affordable solution from Cordico benefits the firefighters, the responders, the public, and the community’s leadership. It’s truly a win-win.”
