A man who had just fatally shot a woman was shot and killed by two Cedar Hill police officers Friday night after he got out of his vehicle holding a gun, officials said.
Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of U.S. 67 about 8 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that someone had shot at his vehicle, the Cedar Hill Police Department said in a news release. The man described the suspect’s car, and the officers found it stopped along the shoulder of the highway.
A woman got out of the passenger side and was shot by the driver, according to the release. The driver exited the car, holding a gun, and two officers fired their service weapons at him.
Officers provided medical aid to both the man and woman, but the woman died at the scene, police said. The suspect died at a hospital a short time later.
The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with standard policy, the release states. The Texas Rangers will lead the investigation into the shooting.
Officials haven’t released the names of the man and woman who died.
