I’ve Been Collecting Bags for 33 Years—These Are the 7 I’d Buy Again and Again

    [ad_1]

Before the world that revolves around Instagram and TikTok influencers existed, there was the fashion blog. One of the first blogs to make it big was BagSnob.com. Tina Chen Craig’s love for finding the next best designer handbag led to the site’s creation and the lifestyle brand that followed right behind it. This journey began for her in 2005 and led to her being a forever-loved cultural icon in the fashion world.

The holiday season is the perfect time for big investments. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or a loved one, this is truly the time of year that the designer bags are flying off the shelves. It would be a dream come true for me to treat myself to something special this year, so while I’m surveying my options, I decided to call in for help. Since Craig’s bag collection is so incredibly robust, I decided to ask her which designer bags are actually worth buying.

My Birthday Is My Favorite Occasion to Shop for—29 Epic Finds in My Cart

    [ad_1]

Growing up, I used to lament my late-November birthday because it coincided with Thanksgiving break, and therefore, the attention could never fully be on me. (What can I say? My Leo moon tends to jump out around my birthday.) As I get older, though, I’ve actually come to love the timing, and now I use the occasion as an opportunity to kick off the holiday party season.

Style-wise, I think of my birthday as a way to test-drive some of the season’s festive trends before the holidays actually hit. So now that it’s almost time for me to celebrate another year around the sun, I couldn’t be any more excited to shop for my outfit to ring in the big day.

Whether you want a jumping-off point for party dressing or are simply curious to see what I pulled, keep scrolling for my ultimate birthday-outfit shopping list, and prepare for the loads of sequins and crystals that lie ahead.

  • This Controversial Wedding Trend Is Becoming a Thing

This Controversial Wedding Trend Is Becoming a Thing

    [ad_1]

You’d think after being in three weddings in the last year that my dress-planning energy and bank account would sweat at the thought of purchasing another dress for a wedding weekend, but here I am with this trend I accidentally started: wedding-party second looks. Hear me out on why I’m so for the idea of this. Weddings are one of the few times you get to see all your favorite people in one place, and if you’ve been selected to be a part of the wedding party (which is such an honor), that means you’ll be in the same or similar dress as other girls in the party.

For this reason, I suggested a bridal-party “second look” to one of my friends. I’ll admit I was somewhat joking when I suggested it, but when my friend was so into it, I thought we should make it an official thing. My friend and the bride-to-be said if bridesmaids want to change, she’s totally down and wants everyone to enjoy the night and feel comfortable in whatever they are wearing. By no means is this a required thing, but it’s simply an option for those who’d like to change mid-reception after the bride puts on her second look. When I was casually chatting about this at the office, the topic turned quite controversial, as the team was torn 50/50 for and against the idea.

  • It’s Officially Over for These Shoe Trends

It’s Officially Over for These Shoe Trends

    [ad_1]

Trends come and go at the speed of light. One day, everyone’s wearing their “dad” sneakers, and the next, it’s all about ’80s throwback pairs (or so it seems). With new shoe styles emerging all the time, it can be hard to keep up. But for anyone curious to check in with their current shoe collection, we’re sharing the status on the trends we can safely pause buying and which have taken their place.

Naturally, as editors, we jump at the chance to share the best styles with you whenever a new trend bubbles up. If there’s a new shoe trend, you can be sure that we’ll be all over it, from the new It brands all the fashion girls are wearing to the pieces we’ve told you will sell out first next month. That said, the following styles are those we’ve simply noticed have been losing steam lately.

If you’re curious to find out which are the best shoe styles, according to our editors, and which styles are slowing down, keep reading. As always, though, I recommend holding onto pieces that you love because if they fit into your personal wardrobe you shouldn’t stop wearing them just because of the trend cycles.

Why Did No One Tell Me Amazon Has an Online Outlet Store With the Cutest Stuff?

    [ad_1]

Just when I thought I was starting to have a handle on the vast shopping landscape that is Amazon, I’ve come to find that there’s a section with even more amazing deals: Amazon Outlet. After perusing the discounted offerings, I was pleased to find that there is a great selection of cute fashion finds, many of which I have now added to cart.

While sifting through the different departments, I noticed that it’s almost seasonless. I came across a plethora pieces that are spot on for fall and winter and other stylish picks fit for the warmer months or even an upcoming tropical vacation. What I kept my eye out for the most was stylish coats, trendy boots, and cool sweaters. Below, check out 35 of my top outlet picks, spanning from classic options to trendy pieces that will satisfy a variety of personal styles. Beware: things tend to sell out quickly.

  • I’ve Been a Wardrobe Stylist for 10 Years—This Is My 6-Piece French Capsule

I’ve Been a Wardrobe Stylist for 10 Years—This Is My 6-Piece French Capsule

    [ad_1]

The French-girl wardrobe is fascinating for a number of reasons: it’s simple, timeless, and effortless. And the quest for the right pieces to achieve it can easily become a lifelong endeavor. We could spend all day figuring out how to emulate the key elements that make French style so good, and if you’re a consistent Who What Wear reader, you know that we do spend a considerable amount of time on the topic.

We’re hardly the only sartorial Francophiles, either. We chatted with an NYC-based wardrobe stylist who is so enamored with the simplicity of French style that she went out and designed her very own French-inspired capsule wardrobe. Meet Bryn Taylor, a stylist of 10 years who recently launched Ouisa, a well-edited assortment of just six pieces that make up what she deems to be the perfect capsule wardrobe.

“While I love fashion and understand the power of clothing to change people’s mindsets,” Taylor shared with us, “I noticed that my clients often expressed frustration over the paralysis of choice within their wardrobes and shopping for clothes in general. They wanted to create an easy, cool, signature style but lacked the confidence and tools to do so. I would always advocate for a smaller, more thoughtful wardrobe consisting of pieces they could depend on in any situation, and seamlessly mix and match. Essentially, a capsule collection. I kept noticing that the foundational pieces my clients’ closets were missing were the same tried and true essentials I depended on in my own wardrobe.”

Out of the Thousands of Peacoats Out There, These 24 Are Best

    [ad_1]

As far as classic winter coats go, the peacoat reigns supreme. The double-breasted winter staple has stood the test of time and become a highly coveted item for celebrities such as Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. It has that certain je ne sais quoi that can make even the most casual outfit look prim and polished.

Over the years, adaptation to the iconic sailor style has included longer cuts, texturized bouclé, fur collars, and bold colors. There are many great options, yet choosing one in the clutter of thousands can be tricky. Ahead, I break down the peacoats that are a step above basic at every price point.

From under-$150 affordable options to super-luxe tailored styles, there’s a coat to fit every aesthetic in the roundup below.

Cropped Pants Are Out, Puddle Pants Are In—8 Celeb Looks That Prove It

    [ad_1]

Five years ago, if someone told me that cropped pants would be passé in just a few years, I don’t know that I would have believed it. At 5’4″, I’m used to spending a good amount of time and money at the tailor or shopping for pants with an inseam of 28″ or less. But now the year is 2022 and cropped pants are feeling like more and more of a distant memory. In its place are puddle pants, and celebrities have been solidifying their importance more and more every day.

Puddle pants are pretty much exactly how they sound: ultra-long trousers (or jeans) that pool around the ankles, dragging on the floor. Pants dragging on the floor isn’t really music to my ears, but a trend is a trend, and you can always wear heels to minimize the dragging. But some celebs, such as Zoë Kravitz, are embracing the puddle and even wearing flats with the trend. Others, such as Kate Middleton and Rihanna, are wearing them with their highest heels. Whatever your shoe preference, puddle pants are shaping up to be one of the biggest pant trends of 2022. Scroll on to see which stylish celebs are wearing them and shop my favorite puddly pairs.

My Friend Has $250 to Spend at Nordstrom—These Affordable Items Are the Chicest

    [ad_1]

My friend recently texted me that she received a $250 gift card from Nordstrom as a present. She often enjoys it when I make shopping edits for her (which comes with the territory as a fashion editor), so she asked if I’ve seen anything at Nordy that would be worth adding to her wardrobe. Naturally, I had a range of items bookmarked from market research.

I ended up sending her four items that I think she’d like best. If you keep scrolling, you’ll find the pieces that I think are chic and versatile (the first four below). If you, dear readers, are looking for even more shopping inspiration, I also rounded up all of the other fall Nordstrom items I’m loving. I’m talking about everything from jackets to denim to knits to skirts. Enjoy.

  • I’m Placing Bets That This ’90s Accessory Trend Will Be Big This Fall

I’m Placing Bets That This ’90s Accessory Trend Will Be Big This Fall

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

Courtesy of Loewe; Courtesy of Versace; Courtesy of Fendi

Every fall marks the return of beloved staples (like knee-high boots, sweater dresses, or leather jackets), but it also brings in the possibility of adopting something “new.” Of course, when it comes to trends, there’s nothing that’s ever entirely original—inspiration is constantly drawn from the past. As runway collections have tapped nostalgia more and more, we’ve witnessed formerly “dated” trends be transformed into something that feels brand new.

Nothing shows that more than the return of furry accessories. Fur accessories have always waned in and out of style as humans have worn them for centuries. However, they first gained notoriety in the fashion world in the 1960s, thanks to designers like Karl Lagerfield coining the term “fun fur” when working at Fendi. But the ’90s marked an even more significant shift in the popularity of fur, as fabric production innovations allowed for the creation of faux fur, making the fabric more animal-friendly and affordable. The result was the creation of a slew of furry accessories that managed to define the decade and continue to do so to this day.

We can see furry accessories continued presence in the fashion zeitgeist, most recently in fall/winter 2022 collections. From Kim Jones at Fendi to Donatella at Versace, we saw no shortage of designers taking this ’90s-inspired accessory and reenvisioning it in a way that could make even the most forward-thinking fashionphiles feel a flicker of nostalgia.

So, without further ado, here are the three ways this trend reemerged on the runway, along with the best furry accessories to shop for right now.

Sorry, But These 7 Winter Handbag Trends Didn’t Quite Make the Cut This Year

    [ad_1]

Normally, when you think of winter fashionhandbags aren’t the first things that come to mind. Boots, outerwear, and dangerously soft accessories maybe. But purses? Not so much. Nonetheless, many of us will carry one or more every single day of the season, just as we all in the other three. And while some people might be okay with ignoring our handbags from now until spring, I’m not, and neither are my fellow editors.

In an effort to draw some attention toward handbags this winter, I called on said editors to find out which styles they’re planning to let hibernate throughout the colder months and which will become their new go-tos. And just as I suspected, they each had plenty to say. See? I’m not the only one ready to rally behind the handbag space during its off season.

Shopping for myself is my idea of a good time, but lately, it’s been on pause. In the interest of being a little selfless during the holidays, I’ve directed all of my shopping energy towards saving up to buy everyone else gifts. Needless to say, I’ve been on somewhat of a spending sabbatical. I still have more time to go before my self-imposed break is finished, and so far I’ve resisted the urge to buy everything haunting my Instagram and TikTok feeds, but after browsing through Zara’s new lineup, I may have to cheat a little.

The newest drops at the retailer have just been too good. Artful prints, expensive-looking coats, and romantic floral pieces that look like they could be from Saint Laurent—I am sold. My wallet won’t be too thrilled, but at least my closet will be. After a solid hour of combing through the entire site, my cart is overflowing to the brim with trendy pieces I want to wear immediately. And because I really am selfless, I’m sharing them all below. Keep scrolling to check them out.

  • French Glamour: The Styling Combo That I Can’t Wait to Wear

French Glamour: The Styling Combo That I Can’t Wait to Wear

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

    Saint Laurent

There were a lot of thrills on the S/S 23 runways, but in my book, the moment that bested them all belonged to Saint Laurent. In a dazzling presentation set against the Eiffel Tower, Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello sent down one of his strongest silhouettes to date: padded-shoulder maxi coats layered over skintight jumpsuits and body-hugging maxi dresses. While Vaccarello also heavily showcased sheer dresses and seductive midriff cutouts, it was this maxi coat-and-dress pairing that ruled the show (14 out of its 49 looks to be exact). And apparently, I wasn’t the only fan. (Beyoncé wore one of the looks to her Renaissance album release party only a few days later.) Reportedly inspired by performer Martha Graham and ’80s French glamour, the overall styling felt unabashedly glossy, elegant, and enigmatic.

Although runway trends usually take some time before they’re able to be directly interpreted, this trend descended in the middle of maxi-hemline mania—meaning there’s no shortage of maxi dresses and coats to make this look work. As any fashion obsessive would, I did my homework and compiled a few options of the styling combo for you. Below, see how to pull off Saint Laurent’s vision of French glamour right now before the runway collection drops.

  • I’ve Lived in NYC for 17 Years, and This Is the Winter Capsule I Swear By

I’ve Lived in NYC for 17 Years, and This Is the Winter Capsule I Swear By

    [ad_1]

Dressing for winter and pulling it off in a stylish way can sometimes be a tall order. While a leather jacket and a few light layers are all that’s ever really needed to get by in the South and West, here on the East Coast, though, it’s another story. Enter Shalini Acharya, an influencer and veteran New Yorker. We routinely turn to this fashion creative for top-notch outfit ideas because of her directional and elevated approach to style. And while everyone has a different method for bundling up in the winter, the 17 years (and counting) that she’s spent living in NYC have helped her develop a well-rounded and well-edited lineup of winter staples. To that point, her capsule wardrobe, in particular, is consistently worth noting.

As a minimalist, Acharya never wants to buy too many pieces, but after a little trial and error, she’s landed on a winter capsule wardrobe that allows her to stay both warm and stylish with a few key essentials. First, the turtleneck top became the ultimate layering piece. When worn with jeans or under a dress, it lends a sophisticated spin to any look. Next, a heavier sweater was perfect for colder days. Not one to give up dresses, she learned to love longer hemlines and taller boots to meet them. Another winter must? Knee-high boots, which are essential for pairing with long dresses and navigating snowy sidewalks. And finally, classic wool coats are the ultimate topper for both banishing the cold and looking stylish. Go on to shop the 16 pieces from her winter capsule wardrobe, and check out a few outfit combinations along the way.

These Are the Best Places to Buy Lingerie and Why

    [ad_1]

Lingerie shopping is so personal. I know for me, it takes a lot for a new bra to impress since I’ve tried way too many uncomfortable or unsupportive options. Recently, I found a bra that was so comfortable it totally changed the way I thought of my whole collection. But when I was talking to my friends, I realized that everyone shops for lingerie with such different ideas in mind. For instance, my smaller-chested friends are always showing off their adorably dainty bralettes, while my larger-chested friends wouldn’t dare to invest in a bra without a supportive underwire.

To make the whole lingerie-shopping experience much easier, it all comes down to knowing what you’re looking for in your undergarments, which is why I’m breaking down the best places to buy different types of lingerie. The Best Long Puffer Coats That Would Survive Arctic Temps

    [ad_1]

Not to be the bearers of bad news here, but winter is upon us, and depending on where you live, that means it’s only a matter of time before it gets frigid outside. There are plenty of outerwear trends, from chic leather trenches to cozy shearling styles, we’re shopping this season. But if there’s one style of coat we’re reaching for when temperatures hit the near-freezing zone, it’s long puffer coats that will up our defenses against the cold, rain, and snow.

Typically quilted and insulated with down or sustainable materials like recycled fibers, puffer coats provide the extra warmth we need when the going gets tough. It doesn’t hurt that this season’s offerings are as stylish as they are functional, are available in an array of colors, are cut in elevated silhouettes, and feature details like waist-cinching belts and asymmetrical collars.

To make sure you’re aptly prepared for bone-chilling days ahead, we rounded up 24 of the best long puffer coats of the season. Keep scrolling to check them out, and nab one (or two!) for yourself while you’re at it.

I Hate to Tell You This, But These 7 Handbag Trends Are on Their Way Out

    [ad_1]

I know the saying goes “diamonds are forever,” but forget diamonds. In my mind, handbags are forever. All you have to do is know when to hang some styles up for a few seasons in favor of other, fresher-feeling alternatives. (To keep their shape, stuff them with newspaper before sending them to storage for the time being.)

This fall, I’ve noticed a larger-than-normal shift in terms of bag trends, with many of the tried-and-true favorites from the last few seasons starting to feel stale when compared to the flashy new ones that designers promoted on the fall runways. Prada’s once ubiquitous nylon Re-Edition bags have been replaced by its retro bowler and briefcase-style bags, while shockingly micro purses have been swapped out for shockingly large ones (because practicality for fall is always trendy).

While it’s sad to say goodbye to the bags that have carried our most prized possessions every day for the last few years, the time has come for a changing of the guard. Ahead, see which styles are best to store away this season and the ones worth replacing them with.

The Jacket I Purged From My Closet is Officially Back (and I Have Regrets)

    [ad_1]

Being a fashion editor, I pride myself on making savvy wardrobe decisions based on the research I’ve done for my stories. But I’m not perfect, and there’s one fashion-related regret I need to get off my chest. Not too long ago, I got into one of my frequent cleaning frenzies and purged a number of denim jackets from my closet. While I usually end up satisfied with my Marie Kondo-esque cleanouts and happy to have the extra closet (and mental) space back, I have to admit that my latest one may have gone a little too far.

You see, I rid my entire closet of any denim jackets since I hadn’t been wearing them nearly as much. Now, though, I’m afraid to share that the staple has been on a comeback tour this season (and boy do I have regrets). Thanks to the fresh ways designers like Miu Miu, Khaite, and Wales Bonner are reimagining it, the jacket style has resurfaced as a wardrobe must-have yet again, and with the help of favored denim brands such as Agolde, Levi’s, it’s accessible to everyone. Fashion girls are already giving a heavy backing to beloved staple, so flip through the below denim jacket outfits and consider this your official green light to give it another go in 2022.
