  • This Chic TikToker Helped Me Shop Better—6 Mistakes I’ll Never Make Again

This Chic TikToker Helped Me Shop Better—6 Mistakes I’ll Never Make Again

    [ad_1]

TikTok is a place for many things—decadent recipes you might not get to making (or air fryer recipes you will), TV spoilers, and trending songs that get stuck in your hand for longer than you’d like. And while all these things are entertaining (and distracting), the fashion sector of the app has grasped my attention the most.

I’ve said this before, but Instagram can get saturated with the same type of influencers, making it harder to navigate and find new voices. TikTok’s algorithm, however, is always pushing out new users to you on a daily basis. That’s exactly how I came to follow Gabriella Gofis, and now her videos along with a few other creators are what I look forward to when opening the app.

While other TikTokers resort to heavy hauls, Gabriella’s videos are meant to help her audience shop better (and wiser). Her tip that caught my attention? She’d always post the lists she’d make before she shopped. There’s nothing over-the-top about her approach, it’s simply just listing items she’d been thinking about constantly in her phone notes app so she has more of a sketched-out plan before she resorts to buying anything. As someone who’s had a habit of going into a sale or shopping spree blind, making lists has been a game changer. I analyze it, take things out, add things, and always end up with a concrete plan for what I really need for the season.

Even as a fashion editor, I have habits that I could improve to better my shopping experience. That’s why I couldn’t help but want to know more about what Gabriella has to share. Keep scrolling to see what mistakes may be holding your wardrobe back from greatness.

French Girls Laugh When Americans Wear These Winter Trends

    [ad_1]

Dressing for winter can seem exciting when you’re tired of your summer wardrobe, but after a few weeks of incessant layering and bundling, the novelty of it all quickly wears off. Trends might not be the first action item on your seasonal shopping list, but we are here to tell you new winter fashion trends will be the key to boosting your spirits and your look time and time again, especially when you’re faced with those mornings of being underwhelmed by your wardrobe.

Instead of simply listing out yet another assortment of the hottest trends of the season, we tapped Farfetch’s senior women’s editor, Celenie Seidel, to fill us in on not only the biggest styles in America but also the heavy hitters in France too. Since French-girl style is an aesthetic sought after by women all over the world, we were curious to see the differences and similarities between the two countries as far as trends go, and thanks to Celenie’s expertise in the popular global shopping website, we have all the answers we need.

I Popped Into Zara After Work and Left With an Entire Wardrobe—Here’s the Damage

    [ad_1]

Welcome to Let’s Get a Room, a series where editor Eliza Huber heads to the dressing room to try on pieces from your favorite retailers, buzzy items, and new collections. Think of this column as a detailed guide to the pieces that are actually worth buying and the ones that, unfortunately, looked better online—no returns necessary.

If you know me, you’re probably already aware of my slight obsession with Zara. Ever since a store opened at my mall in the Chicago suburbs back in high school, I’ve been hooked. So, of course, now that I live in New York City’s biggest shopping hub, I frequent Zara’s SoHo store on a frequent basis. And this last time, I decided to document it.

With a new season approaching, I couldn’t resist popping in to see and try on all the fresh arrivals I’d already bookmarked in the Zara app. And I must say, this latest drop is one of the brand’s best—no question. From tube tops fit for fall and winter to moto boots that are destined to garner you compliments galore, see all the pieces I test-drove at Zara during my most recent post-work drop-in. I have a feeling you’ll like them as much as I did.

This Is How NYC and L.A. Girls Are Dyeing Their Hair This Winter

    [ad_1]

When it comes to nailing down hair color inspiration for any season, we can always count on the chic ladies who inhabit the coastal hubs of NYC and L.A. to show us what’s hot. Whether we’re tapping the trendiest celebrities, the most stylish influencers, or the expert colorists making it all happen, we know we can look to those to the west and the east to show us the way.

This winter, the hair color inspiration is off the charts. While we typically see an influx of deep, rich hair colors dominating this time of year, the tastemakers we love most are dyeing their locks every color from the blackest blacks to brown-on-brown highlights and even some high-velocity colors palettes we just can’t get enough of. Keep reading to see the 20 best new hair colors for winter, and prepare for major hair envy.

I Want the Après-Ski Aesthetic on a Budget—28 Affordable Pieces on My List

    [ad_1]

Vacation makes everything more fun, especially getting dressed. And winter vacations are no exception. The culture and aesthetic of destination ski-resort towns like Aspen, Lake Tahoe, and Telluride have taken on a life of their own, particularly when it comes to fashion.

From the slopes straight to the runway, designers have leaned into skicore, including quilting galore, kitschy snowsuits, and sportswear accessories. However, you don’t have to plan a grandiose trip or splurge on a pair of Miu Miu puffer pants to execute this playful winter aesthetic. These trends have trickled down, and I’m looking to play with this trend in my daily winter wardrobe without the expensive price tags.

I’ve broken down seven key trends that will help you get this après-ski aesthetic and picked the pieces that you need, on a budget. See my winter-wonderland shopping list below.

  • Mango Just Dropped a $199 Version of Fashion’s Cult-Favorite $4000 Coat

    Mango Just Dropped a $199 Version of Fashion’s Cult-Favorite $4000 Coat

    [ad_1]

Burberry has its famous trench coat. Louis Vuitton has its iconic luggage. And Max Mara has its oh-so-recognizable teddy coat. Though it comes in a slew of different colors, the brown version is particularly sought-after by fashion’s elite—it consistently crops up in street style pics year after year. While I’m a huge fan of the posh Italian brand, there’s no denying that the $4000 price tag is inaccessible to most shoppers.

That’s where Mango comes in: The brand just debuted a $199 coat that reminds me of Max Mara’s Teddy Coat. Importantly, I don’t see this as a cheesy knockoff, but rather a coat with a similar vibe that has different details. As you can see in the photos, the Mango version is made with more of a shaggy, furry material while the Max Mara one has more of a traditional sherpa look. Scroll down to shop both iterations of the winter coat trend.

The 25 Best Winter Coats for Every Budget

    [ad_1]

When it comes to everyday dressing, I consider myself somewhat of a minimalist, especially when winter rolls around. Now don’t get me wrong. I love a statement coat just as much as the next person, but I always try to fill my closet with outerwear staples that surpass the trend cycle, go with just about anything, and are actually warm. That said, I’m more apt to reach for a classic camel coat or a cozy teddy on any given day, saving more sartorially daring pieces—like busy prints, non-neutral colors, and unconventional silhouettes—for special occasions.

Looking to stock up on some no-fail classics that you can wear year after year? I scoured the internet for the 25 best winter coats currently for sale. (You’re welcome.) Keep scrolling for your guide to winter’s outerwear essentials, from sweeping wool styles to functional puffer coats and everything in between.

Step Aside, Ankle Boots—These Over-the-Knee Styles Are Back in a Big Way

    [ad_1]

I’ll admit it: When it comes to getting dressed in the morning, I can be a little bit lazy. I know I’m a fashion editor, but it happens to the best of us, right? Well, I know how to play the game, and one trick I always used throughout college was to wear a cool pair of tall boots with a comfortable outfit which instantly made me look more polished and put-together—even if it was just your average sweater-and–skinny-jeans combo.

Much to my ease, over-the-knee styles are coming back in full force with options all over the market. And as the weather continues to drop, I will happily continue to sport tall boots with almost every one of my outfits. There are many pairs on the market, but I went ahead and rounded up some of the best from classic black leather to trendier versions with prints and color options. Either way, scroll ahead to find your new favorite boots.

These Are the 10 Most Iconic Chanel Bags of All Time

The Grand Shopping Tote (also known as the GST for short) is likely the roomiest style in Chanel’s history. To the disappointment of many Chanel lovers, the GST was discontinued in 2015, which has only made it more coveted by true fashion girls.

With plenty of room for the many necessities women carry on a daily basis, the bag rose to the height of popularity in the early to mid-2000s with reality stars from Paris Hilton to the entire cast of The Hills toting the bag on their arms. Today, it’s a rare vintage find, making it an instant buy for anyone in the know.

Trend Predicting Is My Job, But Even I Didn’t See This Grandma Trend Coming

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

While many trends have ruled the year, one descriptor that immediately comes to mind when summing up 2022 is “see-through”. It has definitely been the moment for risk-takers: from delicate mesh knits to unlined slip skirts, skin-revealing pieces have been dominating every corner of the fashion landscape. Yet another racy trend that has recently emerged (and seemingly out of nowhere) is the return of black lace. And while lace as a trend is hardly anything new, it’s hard to ignore just how prevalent the motif has been among fashion it-girls as of late. Bella Hadid wore a lacy black dress for her birthday celebrations last month, styling it with a leather jacket and black undergarments. Her outfit showcases just how this “grandma” trend has been transformed into one of the most controversial right now: Instead of the motif playing second fiddle as a trim or overlaying piece, designers have made sheer black lace the main star, using the material for unlined dresses, blouses, and even pants.

Among the designers to give the trend a big high fashion boost include Saint Laurent and Alaia, who both have included black lacy flared pants and tops within their fall-winter runway collections. Needless to say, the buzz over black lace is only going to up from here. If you’re looking for ways to wear it IRL, I’ve included all of the best pieces on the market now, as well as some outfit inspiration below.

  • How To Dress Like 2022’s Power Dresser Of The Year: Bella Hadid

How To Dress Like 2022’s Power Dresser Of The Year: Bella Hadid

    [ad_1]

When you think about fashion, who immediately springs to mind? Bella Hadid – supermodel extraordinaire, fashion icon, TikTok bestie. The woman inspires trends like Y2K fashion and mini platform UGGs. She simply makes every look look effortless. As such, it should come as no surprise that she’s been named Lyst’s 2022 Power Dresser of the Year.

The younger Hadid sister’s impact on the fashion industry is earth-shattering. On average, her outfits spark a 1,900% increase in searches for similar pieces. After being photographed wearing Ultra Platform UGG Minis, she caused them to sell out in 24 hours, amplifying the style by 152%.

We all want what Bella’s having. Hadid contributed to the rise of the “weird girl” aesthetic – which throws together patterns and textures that don’t typically match. Plus, now she achieved Lyst’s Viral Moment of the Year with her Coperni catwalk moment.

Coperni found itself as the most searched brand with a 3,000% increase in searches after artists sprayed a dress onto an otherwise nude Bella Hadid for their Spring Summer 2023 fashion show. Call it Bella’s golden touch.

@voguemagazine For spring 2023, #coperni dedicated its runway to “women of this world.” The main event? @Bella Hadid taking front and center stage while three men spray painted a dress onto her body. A female artist then went on to finish the look with her bare hands and a pair of scissors. You never know what to expect during #ParisFashionWeek! #fashionforyou ♬ original sound – Vogue

Here are some pieces à la Hadid to inspire your wardrobe and take your streetwear up a level:

  • I Just Came Back From Tokyo—Here’s Everything I Packed and Wore

I Just Came Back From Tokyo—Here’s Everything I Packed and Wore

    [ad_1]

Despite being a triple earth sign and a type A person to my core, packing isn’t my strong suit. I usually leave it up until the last minute, frantically shoving things in my suitcase the morning of my flight. So, naturally, for my most anticipated trip of the year, things were no different: I was barely able to shut the suitcase I was taking with me to Tokyo, Japan.

To nearly all of my friends, family, and random internet strangers who watch my Instagram stories, my identity is heavily tied to the Japanese capital after living there post-grad. So, it’s only fitting that for days leading up to my trip to Tokyo and Kyoto, my group chats were buzzing with one singular question that practically haunted my waking hour: “Ana, what were you going to wear?”

My go-to wardrobe often consists of simple basics (white shirts, oversize blazers, basic denim, etc.), relying on my accessories to steal the show. Eclectic jewelry, printed handbags, and of-the-moment footwear were all key items I knew I could rely on time and time again, regardless of how cold the forecast was suggesting I’d be. I quickly made a Pinterest board to document any and all NYC inspiration I wanted to take with me during my trip: leather jackets, ballet flats, and slouchy trousers all made the final cut.

Although my luggage clocked in at 4 pounds overweight (it happens to the best of us!), it was well worth it. Browse everything I wore while on holiday in Japan. Don’t be surprised if you see every It girl packing their bags to head (far) out East soon.

  • 26 Pieces From Mulberry at the Top of One Editor’s Holiday Wish List

26 Pieces From Mulberry at the Top of One Editor’s Holiday Wish List

    [ad_1]

The holidays are just around the corner, and I couldn’t be more delighted. It feels like the first “normal” holiday season in years, and I think this one is going to be special. And while I’m a firm avoider of throw-away, kitschy presents, the opportunity for forever pieces is always one that excites me. A timeless handbag, a leather wallet, and cashmere gloves are pieces made to last and therefore make the top of my wish list.

For a long time, Mulberry has been a go-to for these very special pieces. The British luxury lifestyle brand is so synonymous with classic accessories that when you see someone sporting a Mulberry handbag, scarf, or purse and ask them about it, they’ll often tell you it was originally their mom’s. Bottom line: Mulberry has a knack for creating accessories that are passed down from generation to generation.

This year, Mulberry’s gifting selection has more than just the classics. There are scarves that can be personalized, new leather editions in vibrant colorways and prints, recent collections (including the mini-bag series), and party-ready metallics that you’re likely to see on New Year’s Eve.

There’s no doubt that the past two years have changed our perception of “office dressing,” with many of us now working from home due to the unprecedented pandemic. Of course, there are still many who have to go to a physical workplace, so with that in mind, (along with the hope that this year brings us back to the workplace safely), we wanted to share some of the best online stores to buy business casual work clothes that are actually affordable (even if they do lean more casual these days).

If you live in a colder climate, you know the value of lined boots—the insulation can make or break your winter outfit. 15 Thigh-High-Boot Outfits We’re Re-Creating

    [ad_1]

Real talk: While thigh-high boots may be a fan favorite among designers, fashion girls, and women everywhere, they aren’t exactly the easiest to wear. Coming up with thigh-high-boot outfits can feel as taxing as slipping them off at the end of a long day. And while they may elicit step-on-me feelings, they’re not exactly the easiest boots to wear to get your steps in, if you catch my drift. But, as knee-high boots and over-the-knee boots have surged in popularity, it’s only a matter of time before thigh-high boots inch up even further.

If you experienced existential dread while reading that last sentence, take a deep breath—I’m about to prove to you that thigh-high boots actually aren’t that difficult to style. The best thigh-high-boot outfits of the moment are easier to replicate and wear than they were in previous seasons. You’ll just have to keep scrolling to see for yourself.
