  • RPM Raceway launches Kart Klash, interactive go-kart racing | Long Island Business News

    THE BLUEPRINT:

    • RPM Raceway debuts Kart Klash, merging live go-karting with video game features.

    • Karts equipped with LED displays and Formula One-style steering wheels.

    • Players use power-ups like missiles, boosts, and shields to strategize races.

    • The go-kart market is projected to grow from $158M to $229M by 2025, driven by corporate events and youth racing.

RPM Raceway, an immersive racing and entertainment spot with a location in Farmingdale, has launched Kart Klash, a racing game that merges live go-karting with an interactive video game.

With Kart Klash, racers drive go-karts that are equipped with Formula One–style steering wheels and LED displays, collecting and activating special effects that include missiles, electromagnetic pulses, TNT explosives, boosts and shields. Features such as mystery boxes and boost zones are designed to prompt racers to implement strategies to influence outcomes and improve their position in the race.

“Kart Klash isn’t just about recording your fastest lap, it’s about outsmarting your opponents and crossing the finish line first,” Andrew Farage, CEO and cofounder of RPM, said in a news release about the racing game.

“We’re rolling out a social reinvention of go-karting that blends the thrill of racing with the interactivity of gaming, appealing to a demographic that may prefer strategy over raw adrenaline,” Farage added.

Each kart features the latest LED heads-up display – a screen that shows real-time stats, sector data, and performance insights directly in the driver’s line of sight. This information is streamed to racers throughout the race.

Live leaderboards and detailed performance tracking are designed to provide ongoing updates that maintain engagement and challenge for experienced racers, new competitors and spectators alike.

RPM Raceway has extended hours on Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., when many organizations are closed.

  • New Hampton Inn & Suites opens in Farmingdale | Long Island Business News

Long Island’s newest hotel has opened in Farmingdale, just in time for this month’s Ryder Cup at the nearby Bethpage Black Golf Course.

The $28 million project from a partnership of Jericho-based Oxford Hospitality and Raleigh, N.C.-based Concord Hospitality brought a new four-story Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton with 101 guest rooms to a 2.2-acre site at 1030 Broadhollow Road.

Amenities at the new hotel include a fitness center with a Peloton Bike, an indoor pool and whirlpool, outdoor patio, complimentary hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, outdoor fire pits, and a Pour My Beer self-pour station offering craft beer and wine on tap.

“We’re proud to open the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton right here in Farmingdale, a vibrant, growing community at the heart of Long Island,” Jason Spiegel, general manager of the new Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton, said in a company statement. “From local businesses to visitors exploring the region, our location offers convenience, comfort, and the exceptional service guests expect from Hilton. We’re excited to be part of the Farmingdale neighborhood and look forward to welcoming travelers and locals alike.”

Plans for the Farmingdale hotel project were hatched several years ago, but the development was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The parcel for the new hotel was part of a 13-acre site of the former Skydrive Golf Center, most of which has been redeveloped into a retail center by Syosset-based Blumenfeld Development Group.

“We’re really pleased to get this hotel open, given the fact that we started before COVID,” Paul Amoruso, who heads Oxford Hospitality, told LIBN. “The timing couldn’t be better, with the Ryder Cup fast approaching. The demand has been off the charts, and we expect the Hampton Inn and Suites to perform very well, not only pick up substantial Route 110 business, but the whole South Shore, in fact. The demand generators in the area, including Farmingdale State University and the continued expansion of Republic Airport bodes quite well for this project.”

The new hotel is the sixth on Long Island developed by Amoruso, who has also developed the Hilton Garden Inn in Roslyn, the Hilton Garden Inn in Melville, Homeward Suites by Hilton in Melville, the Hampton Inn in Commack, and the Hampton Inn in Huntington.

Next up for Oxford Hospitality and Concord Hospitality is a new hotel and conference center to be built on 5.88 acres behind the Jericho Plaza office complex in Jericho. Amoruso said construction on the 113,815-square-foot “luxury lifestyle” hotel with over 200 rooms is slated to begin next year.

“The Jericho project will be a five-star hotel that Long Island desperately needs. It’s going to be iconic,” he said. “We really feel it’s time, after 40 years of the Garden City Hotel, to bring the North Shore of Long Island a first-class hotel project.”

Founded in 1985, Concord Hospitality, which will manage the new Farmingdale hotel, employs more than 6,000 people. The company, which focuses on hotels branded with Hilton, Marriott and Hyatt, has grown its portfolio to more than 150 properties, and another 30 or so in its development pipeline.

  • Long Island’s 1st adult-use marijuana dispensary opens – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Long Island’s 1st adult-use marijuana dispensary opens – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Long Island‘s first adult-use cannabis dispensary is now open in Farmingdale. Hundreds lined up in the hot sun Saturday to get their hands on the products.

Once the ribbon was cut, the doors to Strain Stars at 1815 Broadhollow Road flew open, dozens of proud marijuana users filed in and the earthy smell wafted out.

“This place is beautiful,” remarked Damian Fagon, with the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM). “This place is actually beautiful.”

Inside Long Island’s first Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary were 400 weed products in premium packaging, proving how far the recreational weed market has come.

“Being labeled a drug addict most of my life,” said cannabis user Andy Graubart, “I’m not, I’m a success story.”

Graubart, who was first in line, waited more than two hours for the grand opening, walking into the mecca of marijuana with glee.

Marijuana saved my life,” Grabart said. “And if it’s done in the proper way, it helps with ADHD, it helps with bipolar, it helps with anxiety, depression, it’s natural. And it really does work.”

And while you can find studies touting the medicinal uses of marijuana, you can find just as many studies warning about the hazards, including memory loss and psychosis.

“There will be haters,” Fagon said. “We at OCM know about haters.”

    But most…
