Thanksgiving is right around the corner, which means turkey, football, festive outfits, and, most importantly, giving thanks.

Whether your Thanksgiving plans are low-key or elaborate, this outfit guide will help you put together the perfect look to celebrate the fall holiday. With outfits ranging from casual to dressy, these Thanksgiving outfit ideas are sure to put you on the living room’s best-dressed list!

Read on for your ultimate guide to Thanksgiving outfits, with over 20 looks perfect for Turkey Day and the fall season, and get ready to slay the holiday.

    Festive Thanksgiving Outfit

If wearing plaid on Thanksgiving is wrong, I don’t want to be right! I’m all for dressing on-theme and getting festive for any holiday, and this plaid, smocked swing dress couldn’t be more perfect for Thanksgiving.

In addition to its seasonal print, the dress features a smocked bust and voluminous sleeves, along with a tiered skirt for a flouncy fit.

Dress it up with some cute jewelry like these gold fringe hoop earrings and this vintage-inspired monogram heart locket necklace (which actually opens up!).

While regular boots or booties would also look great with this outfit, I say go for some black knee-high cowboy boots, which are a big trend this season. They’ll add a slight Western flair to the ensemble and keep it right on trend.

    Preppy Thanksgiving Outfit

Want to go for a preppy, classic look for Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to pull out your favorite plaid mini skirt and cable knit sweater.

Be sure to opt for autumnal hues like tan, navy, and brown; this plaid A-line mini skirt combines these fall colors in a timeless way and is made from a knit material with a hint of stretch (so you won’t be uncomfortable while sitting at the dinner table).

Pair it with a cream-colored cable knit pullover sweater, which feels super classic and will keep you feeling cozy. Ballet flats are another major trend this season, and these satin maroon ones with buckle details are so adorable.

To fully embrace the preppy look, complete the ensemble with a vintage-inspired heart-shaped watch and a cream hair bow clip for a feminine touch.

    Trendy Thanksgiving Outfit

Calling all trendy girlies: a pair of brown faux leather straight-leg pants and a burgundy sweater are the perfect combo to show off your style, even if you’ll just be hanging in the living room all Turkey Day long.

Burgundy and chocolate brown are the season’s hottest colors, and they look amazing when worn together — plus, they both have such an autumnal vibe. The rich brown hue of these faux leather straight-leg pants couldn’t be more ideal for the fall (and Thanksgiving), and the faux leather material gives them a polished vibe.

Pair them with a burgundy off-the-shoulder sweater; this one has ribbed stitching, and its off-the-shoulder neckline is perfect for showing off a stylish necklace, like this gold chain option, along with some oversized gold stud earrings.

Slouchy suede bags are another huge fashion trend this season, and this brown faux suede crescent shoulder bag is going to bring the look together seamlessly, along with some leather kitten-heel ankle boots in a brownish-red hue.

    Casual Thanksgiving Outfit

Looking to keep things casual this Thanksgiving? This is a great laid-back Thanksgiving outfit idea for you. Throw on some light or mid-wash straight-leg jeans with a plaid jacket or shacket, plus some chunky ankle boots.

This brown and cream brushed plaid jacket features a soft faux fur collar for an elevated touch while keeping you cozy and warm. Wear it over a matching brown long-sleeve bodysuit or top tucked into your jeans — again, we are going for a put-together casual look, so don’t underestimate the power of a tucked-in shirt!

Just about any kind of denim will do, but opting for straight-leg jeans without any huge rips or tears is your safest bet if you don’t want to be the butt of any jokes or commentary by older family members (IYKYK).

Complete the look with minimal jewelry like some silver double-tube hoop earrings and a pair of brown ankle boots (I love the zipper-front detail and slight platform heel on this pair).

    Cool Girl Thanksgiving Outfit

This one’s for the cool girls. Go the unexpected route with a navy and red color palette featuring items that are boho-meets-western.

A navy blue plaid maxi skirt with a low-rise waist is a super cute fall item to add to your wardrobe, and it’ll look fab with a matching navy blue cardigan sweater. Cardigans have been the “it” knit of the season, and this cable knit option is one you’ll be able to wear many different ways throughout the autumn.

Add in an unexpected pop of color and western flair with some burgundy cowboy boots, along with jewelry featuring the same hue, like a chunky silver ring with a red-colored stone and a cord necklace with a carnelian pendant. BTW, carnelian is said to boost your confidence, energy, and creativity!

Along with more silver rings and a slouchy navy blue leather bag, you’ll be ready to eat (literally and figuratively) this Thanksgiving.

    Easy Thanksgiving Outfit

If you want to keep things simple this holiday — but still want to look cute — you can’t go wrong with the sweater, jeans, and booties formula.

This easy Thanksgiving outfit can be recreated with pieces you probably already have in your own closet!

Pick a sweater with a rustic or earthy hue, like this muted green mock neck sweater with a medium-weight knit and cable knit design. Wear it with some dark-wash jeans and neutral ankle booties, like this olive-colored pair that matches the sweater nicely.

A few accessories, like some silver chunky hoop earrings and a dark brown studded leather belt, will elevate this simple outfit and make it look that much more put-together without over-complicating it.

    Polished Thanksgiving Outfit

For a polished vibe, consider classic pieces like a slim-knit sweater top, plaid trousers, and loafers.

These tan and burgundy plaid wide-leg pants feature the perfect autumnal color palette for Thanksgiving and look refined. Pair them with a burgundy slim-fitting mock neck top tucked in, along with a crocodile embossed belt to add definition to your midsection.

Vintage-inspired accessories like a gold watch and some chestnut-colored lug sole loafers with antiquated hardware details will bring the ensemble together in a classic way.

    Dressy Thanksgiving Outfit

If you’ve got Thanksgiving plans that call for dressing up, you’ll want to find the perfect dress for the occasion.

This crushed velvet off-the-shoulder midi dress — aptly named the “Autumn Affair” dress — is going to give you a glamorous, seasonal look. Its crushed velvet fabrication creates a textured effect that almost changes colors depending on how the fabric sits, adding to the appeal of this flattering frock.

Style it with gold jewelry like a chain link necklace and gold and green pendant earrings, along with a brown woven handbag or clutch.

As for shoes, you can either wear it with heeled boots (as shown on the model above), or dress it up even further with some heeled pointy-toe pumps depending on where you’re headed.

    Thanksgiving Eve (TGE) Outfit

Will you be going out on Thanksgiving Eve (a.k.a. TGE) or enjoying a Friendsgiving with your friends? If so, break out the mini skirts (and skorts) and knee-high boots to hit the town.

I love this black plaid mini skort with a brushed fabric; wear it with a black long-sleeve bodysuit or similar “going out” top. Black knee-high boots with a heel are going to give you a boost and dress up the look, along with a trendy buckled black shoulder bag.

Since it’s probably going to be chilly (this is November we’re talking about, after all), consider wearing tights, and don’t forget to bring along a faux leather jacket. This black vegan leather jacket has a faux fur collar and faux sherpa-lined interior, making it extra warm and stylish.

    More Cute Thanksgiving Outfit Inspo:

Want more Thanksgiving outfit inspo? Check out these cute looks with clothing pieces that are perfect for Turkey Day, all under $100!

    Plaid Wool Mini Skirt

The color palette of this plaid wool mini skirt could not be more perfect for Thanksgiving! Plaid mini skirts are a quintessential Thanksgiving day clothing item, so you can’t go wrong wearing one yourself.

Paired with knee-high boots and a cute knit top, you’ll be ready for all the family photos and feasting.

    Plaid Collared Peacoat

Outerwear can really pull a look together, and this plaid peacoat with brown and blue plaid print is a must-have for the fall.

On Thanksgiving, try wearing it with a cream turtleneck sweater and brown faux leather pants, along with matching brown accessories. It’ll keep you warm while looking super stylish.

    Dark Floral Velvet Midi Dress

Velvet is a festive fabric — there’s just something about it that feels extra special, especially for the holidays. This long-sleeved midi dress features a velvet burnout floral print for an eye-catching look, with a dark color scheme that makes it ideal for the fall and winter seasons.

I especially love the way this dress looks with some knee-high boots, but heels would work, too.

    Faux Suede Mini Skirt

Like plaid mini skirts, faux suede mini skirts are another classic item to wear on Thanksgiving, particularly in earth tones like tan and brown.

This tan faux suede mini skirt has a button-down front for vintage vibes, and its heavier material makes it perfect for pairing with sweaters and knitwear.

    Faux Shearling Jacket

Cozy up on Thanksgiving in a faux shearling jacket. These are as cozy as they are trendy, so it’s a win-win!

This cream-colored jacket features contrasting brown faux leather piping for a classic look, making it so that you can wear this jacket with casual and dressier outfits alike.

For a laid-back Turkey Day, style it with jeans, some platform Ugg boots, and the top or sweater of your choice.

    Turtleneck and Skirt Set

Take the guesswork out of getting ready on Thanksgiving with a coordinating set. Rather than stress out over what top to pair with what bottom, a set will make it easy for you to put your outfit together in a flash.

This wine-colored set comes with a turtleneck top and A-line skirt, both with the same soft, stretchy fabrication that will be comfortable to wear on a day that you’ll likely be doing a lot of sitting… and eating.

Wear the set with some knee-high boots, and you’ll be ready to celebrate in style.

P.S. — if this hue isn’t your favorite, the set also comes in black, gray, and olive green.

    Mock Neck Sweater Mini Dress

How can you dress cute but stay warm? With a sweater dress, of course!

Now’s the time to grab a knit sweater mini dress like this mock neck option that is warm and cozy.

When paired with a long coat and some knee-high boots, it will look chic and seasonal. Best of all, its relaxed fit will make it more comfortable to wear compared to more structured dresses with tighter fits.

BTW, you can also always add tights for extra warmth!

    Checked Tie-Front Mini Dress

With a tie-front, sweetheart neckline, and checked print featuring autumnal hues, this mini dress is an adorable option for wearing on Thanksgiving.

Rather than go the expected route with boots or booties, try wearing this dress with some chunky loafers and sweet crew socks for a classic yet trendy vibe.

    Mauve Velvet Mini Skirt

This mauve velvet mini skirt has a luxe look that is sure to be a hit at the Thanksgiving dinner table. It has a high, banded waist for a flattering fit, an A-line silhouette, and a soft velvet fabrication with a slight sheen that makes it look ultra-elevated.

It’s perfect for a dressy Thanksgiving outfit but can also be styled a bit more casually with a sweater and boots.

    Velvet Shell Top

An alternative to the velvet skirt? A velvet top, of course.

This top looks ultra-luxe but is practically as easy to wear as a basic tee! This burgundy velvet shell top has short sleeves, a high neck, and ruching at the sides for a flattering effect, but wears like a t-shirt.

The difference is that it will instantly elevate whatever bottoms you pair with it, including jeans. With the addition of some jewelry, you’ll look like you put a lot of thought into your holiday outfit, minus the effort.

    Quarter-Zip Sweater

There’s something about quarter-zip sweaters that gives me major fall vibes, and their coziness is unmatched. This oatmeal-colored cable-knit sweater feels elevated thanks to its quarter-zip design and looks super cute when worn with a corduroy mini skirt and western ankle boots.

This outfit’s neutral color scheme and heavier textures like knit and corduroy make it a top-tier Thanksgiving look.

    Sweater Skort Set

Clearly, I’m a big fan of coordinating sets because of their ease (and cuteness), and this sweater skort set is another great option to wear on Thanksgiving.

With eight earthy tones to choose from, it comes with a cardigan sweater and matching skort with a folded waistband in the same cozy knit material.

    Plaid Oversized Shacket

Plaid shackets (shirt jackets) are a fall staple, so they are a go-to choice for Thanksgiving outfits.

This shacket has a brown plaid print that makes it extra seasonal, along with an oversized fit and faux suede lining.

You can keep it casual by wearing it with jeans or dress it up with a brown mini skirt and boots for a more festive feel.

    Knit Hoodie & Cargo Pants

Edikted knit hoodie cargo pants Edikted knit hoodie cargo pants

Are you planning on a super laid-back, chill Thanksgiving? Rather than lounge around in your daily sweats, elevate your leisurely Turkey Day look with a coordinating rib knit hoodie and cargo pants combo.

It’s warm, it’s cozy, and it’s cute — just add some Uggs, and you’ll be all set for a day on the couch!

How to Create Easy, Transitional Outfits like a Pro: Tips, Tricks & Hacks

This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you purchase through our links. Please read our full disclosure here.

This post will teach you how to create cool transitional outfits to go from summer to autumn.

Autumn is finally here! (Cue the Gilmore Girls intro song.) The leaves are changing and so are our closets.

For a lot of us it’s exciting to finally break out our sweaters, coats, and boots. But the weather is at a point where it hasn’t exactly caught up with our excitement.

That’s where transitional outfits come in, and that’s where we’ll be focusing our attention today.

But, what *is* a transitional outfit?

In the early weeks of fall, we all experience transitional weather. It might be a bit chilly in the morning, hot in the afternoon, and cold at night. It might even rain, you never know.

All these changes make it hard to get dressed in the morning.

A transitional outfit is a look you create to deal with all the different weather possibilities that arise when we go from summer to autumn. These outfits can be tricky to create since, by design, you’re dressing for multiple types of weather at once.

How to Create a Transitional Outfit: Tips, Tricks, & Hacks

Here are some of my favorite ways to be prepared for everything while looking cool:

    • Light layers – Create outfits with multiple, thin layers that you can take on and off through the day as the weather requires.
    • Textures and fabrics are your friends – To keep wearing your favorite summer items, mix them with items made from warmer fabrics and especially textured options like suede, velvet, and corduroy.
    • Simple switches – To create transitional looks, take your summer outfits and make substitutions. For example, add an oversized sweater on top or swap your sandals for boots.

How to Create Transitional Outfits Like a Pro: A Fashion Guide

    Jeans + T-shirt, Easy – Outfit #1

One of the most basic year-round outfit formulas is jeans and a T-shirt.

During summer, we usually wear this combo with cute heels, sandals, or flats. In the fall, we can add layers and warmer fabrics.

For the easiest transitional look, let’s add autumnal textures to the outfit and switch our summer shoes for warmer ones.

Here, I started with a black graphic t-shirt and a pair of high-waisted jeans. Then, I added a burgundy, faux-leather blazer. Finally, I accessorized with a black belt and opted for black sock booties.

The great thing about a jeans and tee combo is that it’s easy to make it suitable for cold weather by adding warmer items. While I could have added any blazer, I chose the burgundy for its warm, rich shade that is both very autumnal and very trendy right now.

Trousers + Tank Top, Easy – Outfit #2

One of my favorite outfit formulas is a tank top and a pair of sleek trousers. I think it’s one of the best ways to be comfortable, and it’s easy to take from day to night.

Similarly, this combo is easy to take from summer to fall.

For this example, I started with a simple white tank top. Then, I added black pinstripe trousers. Since I was working with such a neutral base, I added a red, oversized sweatshirt for a pop of color. Finally, for shoes, I chose red and white sneakers to bring the whole look together.

This outfit can look different depending on your style. Personally, I like pops of color in my outfits, but you could go neutral or add a more textured jacket or sweater.

This is obviously best for the warmer days of fall, but it’s a simple formula that you can keep adding layers to as the weather gets colder. The same tips apply: make a simple replacement, either the shoes or the top, add another jacket or overshirt, etc.

Long Cotton Skirt + Sweater, Medium – Outfit #3

Now, what about the items that we specifically love during summer, like our linen pants, cotton skirts, and flowy dresses?

One of my go-to summer looks is a long cotton skirt and a tank top, and it’s simple to transition that combo to fall.

For this example, I made a simple switch to take the outfit into fall. I started with my favorite long, white cotton skirt. Then, instead of a tank top or t-shirt, I layered on a mustard yellow, cable-knit sweater. For shoes, I wore a pair of brown riding boots and accessorized with a matching belt.

The great thing about midi and long skirts is that they look amazing with all types of boots and with warmer tops. And, if it gets even colder, you can wear this far into the fall season by adding a coat and even thermal tights underneath.

Long Dress + Ribbed Top, Medium – Outfit #4

Flowy dresses are also a summer favorite.

To wear these in the fall, you could do the same thing I did with the skirt — add a chunky sweater or oversized sweatshirt and boots. But, there are other ways of layering if it isn’t that cold outside.

First, start with your most comfortable, flowy summer dress. For me, that’s any long, loose cotton dress. In this example, I chose a light pink loose dress I made. I added a green, long-sleeved top underneath. Since this is for the warmer days of fall, instead of boots, I wore a pair of green and pink sneakers.

Any flowy, sleeveless dress can work year-round if you know how to layer. You can wear a t-shirt, a long-sleeved top, a turtleneck, and even a thermal top underneath, and you can layer sweaters, shirts, sweatshirts, and even capes over top.

Mini Skirt + Knit Top, Difficult – Outfit #5

Now, we’re getting to the most challenging items to transition. Among them are mini skirts and shorts, especially if they’re made of a summery fabric.

Let’s start with a mini skirt.

For this example, I started with an off-white, pleated mini skirt. During the summer, I would wear it with floral blouses and bright tops, so I switched it up and added a brown knit top. Then, I put on a pair of brown knee-high boots. Finally, I layered on a brown, oversized blazer.

Again, this is a look for the warmer side of transitional weather, so I’m not wearing tights for this example. As it gets colder, I’d add tights and a long-sleeve top. But for this type of fluctuating weather, I prefer to have layers that I can easily take on and off.

Shorts + Baby Tee, Difficult – Outfit #6

Finally, what’s more summer than a pair of shorts and a baby tee? Especially if they’re linen or cotton.

Again, adding light layers, choosing jewel tones, autumnal fabrics and patterns will take you from summer to fall.

For our final look, I started with a pair of plaid, high-waisted shorts. Then, I wore a white baby tee and layered on a navy-blue cardigan. For shoes, instead of sneakers or sandals, I chose a pair of red cowboy boots.

Plaid shorts work particularly well for transitional outfits. These shorts are burgundy and blue, so they already have an autumnal color palette, but any plaid shorts you have can be styled for fall.

I know red cowboy boots are not for everyone, so brown riding boots or over-the-knee boots would also go with this outfit formula. Personally, I love cowboy boots, so I try to break them out every chance I get.

    What Do You Think?

Would you wear any of the outfits? What’s your favorite outfit formula right now? Do you have any recommendations for this time of year? Do you have any styling questions?

  • 13 Dark Academia Skirt Outfits You’ll Want to Copy Immediately

13 Dark Academia Skirt Outfits You’ll Want to Copy Immediately

This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you purchase through our links. Please read our full disclosure here.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been discussing the Dark Academia aesthetic in depth. (See our posts on Dark Academia outfits for fall and Dark Academia winter outfits for more.)

Today we’re combining our favorite fall wardrobe essential, the mini skirt, with our favorite fall aesthetic. Skirts and dark academia go hand in hand, as the aesthetic is all about that classic prep school uniform vibe.

This post will give you tons of ideas for how to wear skirts as part of your dark academia look. Let’s get to it!

Key Elements of Dark Academia Skirt Outfits

    Layering

As mentioned in our previous post on dark academia outfits, layering is key for this aesthetic and this holds true for your skirt outfits.

For example, skirts look amazing styled with a cute jacket, blazer, and/or cardigan layered on top. And, of course, don’t forget tights and socks for more layering options.

    Dark & Muted Color Palettes

Also, when it comes to buying skirts, you should always stick to dark and/or muted colors when shopping for the dark academia aesthetic.

Any skirts you invest in should fit your aesthetic color palette. This will make them 10x easier to style with multiple pieces in your closet.

    Textured & Comfy Fabrics

Also, when shopping for this aesthetic, you will want to look for textured and comfy fabrics.

So, when picking out your skirts, make sure to opt for comfy fabrics like wool or houndstooth, and also don’t shy away from texture.

This will be perfect for those of us who live in areas that have colder months during the school year.

    Dark Academia Skirt Outfit Ideas

    Layers

    Vest Blazer

If you want to add layers to your dark academia skirt outfits, I recommend investing in a skirt and vest combo like this one.

The houndstooth skirt and oversized blazer vest can be worn separately or together, as seen above. This makes them extra versatile in your closet.

What you will love about this outfit is you could totally wear it as an everyday look or for a fancier event. The look above would be perfect for a fall day spent shopping or going to lunch with friends.

    Blazer

You could also totally go for a cropped blazer and skirt combo like this!

A cropped blazer can be worn alone or you can add it to your other dark academia skirt outfits as an added layer.

This will not only give you a super cute skirt look that fits the aesthetic, but it will also give you a unique outfit that you can wear to school.

Just pair this cropped blazer with a matching pleated skirt or another cute dark academia skirt for a stylish and classy dark academia skirt outfit! Add a longer shirt under the blazer for more coverage as desired.

    Collared Shirt

Another great way to add layers to your dark academia looks is by pairing your skirts with a layered shirt combo like this one.

You can either purchase a two-in-one top, or, for maximum versatility, layer a short-sleeve button-down shirt under a square-neck top in a dark color. Then add your favorite skirt, plus some socks and loafers to finish the look.

    Dark & Muted Colors

    Pleated Skirt

When shopping for the dark academia aesthetic, you will also want to look for dark and muted color palettes.

For example, you could go for an outfit like this which features a dark pleated skirt with a striped button-down collared shirt. The shirt in this look is light but also classic academia so it works for the aesthetic.

This look will not only fit the dark academia aesthetic but also will give you an outfit that you could totally wear as an everyday look!

Just pair this outfit with a cute pair of heels or loafers, and you will be ready for the school year.

    Striped Skirt

With the dark academia aesthetic, you can also totally go for a striped skirt outfit like this one.

This striped skirt can be used to make outfits that are more casual, but also show off your dark academia vibe.

Pair this skirt with a cute and casual shirt like this dark off-the-shoulder top and some ballet flats or loafers to complete your look! Don’t forget the hair bow.

    Plaid Skirt

You can’t get more dark academia than a dark-colored plaid skirt. If you don’t already have one in your closet, invest asap.

All you need to do to complete this look is to pair it with a cute shirt and your favorite pair of boots or loafers.

    Textured & Comfy Fabrics

    Houndstooth Vest

Vests like this one are a great option for the dark academia aesthetic especially when paired with a cute matching skirt like this one. Plus, houndstooth is a key pattern for dark academia.

Not only will this outfit fit the dark academia look, but also it will give you a comfy outfit you could wear every day!

    Knit Cardigan

A cardigan is also a great option for the dark academia aesthetic, and this one comes with a matching knit skirt for a super cute look.

I recommend pairing this outfit with a cute pair of loafers or even dressing up the outfit with some kitten heels!

Plus, you can always style the pieces separately to create tons more outfits. This set is a perfect investment for your dark academia wardrobe.

    Ribbed Sweater

One other great option for your dark academia skirt outfits is a chunky knit sweater like this one!

This sweater is made out of wool and has a cable knit design for a rustic, vintage feel.

So, if you are looking for a warm and cozy, but also stylish outfit to wear to fit the dark academia aesthetic, consider wearing a sweater like this one with your favorite mini skirt, socks, and loafers.

This would be a great outfit to wear for the colder months during the school year — just add tights for extra warmth.

  • How to Dress Dark Cottagecore This Fall – 10 Outfit Combos You Need to Try

How to Dress Dark Cottagecore This Fall – 10 Outfit Combos You Need to Try

This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you purchase through our links. Please read our full disclosure here.

Are you interested in trying out a more vintage type of look? If so, then you should consider trying out the dark cottagecore aesthetic.

The dark cottagecore aesthetic blends the earthy vibes of cottagecore with the gothic vintage vibes of dark academia for a witchy look that’s still real-life-wearable.

This is the perfect aesthetic for those of us who like to have a wardrobe with a darker color palette. Also, if you love vintage clothing, you need to give dark cottagecore a try.

To help you find the perfect dark cottagecore looks to add to your wardrobe, read on to learn exactly what you should be shopping for, as well as specific outfit ideas with styling tips.

Key Elements of Dark Cottagecore Fashion

    Dark Color Palette

One of the most important things you should look for when shopping for dark cottagecore aesthetic outfits is the color palette.

Specifically, this means sticking to a dark color palette (obviously) featuring shades of dark brown, deep green, navy, burgundy, and black.

    Detailed Patterns & Fabrics

You can also add some fun pieces to your look by searching for items that have patterns and/or fabrics that fit this aesthetic.

For example, plaid is very dark cottagecore. You could opt for a plaid dress or skirt to help you achieve the aesthetic.

You can also add some floral prints to your looks for those cottagecore vibes, but make sure to look for floral prints in darker shades to match the palette of this aesthetic.

I also recommend adding lace to your looks for a little more of that vintage, romantic cottagecore feel.

    Silhouettes

Pay attention to your silhouettes when you’re dressing dark cottagecore.

In general, you want your outfits to cinch you in at the waist, which will give you the vintage-romantic vibe this aesthetic is known for.

Stock up on cute belts, skirts that hit you at the waist, and fit-and-flare dresses like the one above. I love the flowy bottom and fitted top of this dress, plus the dark floral print is so dark cottagecore!

    Dark Cottagecore Outfit Ideas

    Floral Maxi Skirt

To achieve the dark cottagecore aesthetic, start by investing in a flowy maxi or midi skirt that hits you at your natural waist. This maxi skirt comes in a rich burgundy shade, which makes it perfectly dark cottagecore.

To complete this outfit, you can pair the skirt with a cute pair of boots and a simple turtleneck, as shown above.

    Off-the-Shoulder Corset Dress

Corset outfits are so much fun, and if you stick to a deep color palette, they’re very dark cottagecore.

For example, this off-the-shoulder corset dress is a perfect all-in-one outfit. It not only comes with a cute floral corset, but it will also give you a dark cottagecore look with the black, flowy fabric of the dress.

Fall & Winter Leggings Outfits: How to Wear Leggings All Season Long

This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you purchase through our links. Please read our full disclosure here.

This post will show you five leggings outfit ideas, with tips on how to look cute and stay warm while wearing leggings in the fall and winter.

I’m not ashamed to admit it: I love leggings, and I wear them as pants all the time. There’s nothing quite as easy as throwing on a pair of basic black leggings and calling it a day!

In this post, you’ll find stylish leggings outfit ideas for the fall and winter, along with tips for staying warm while wearing leggings, plus the best kinds of shoes to wear with leggings.

Tips for Staying Warm When Wearing Leggings

In the fall and winter, leggings are a staple, but I think most of us have experienced regret at some point for wearing them out in the cold. Whether your leggings were too thin or a gust of cold wind whipped at your ankles (I’m looking at you, 7/8 leggings), leggings aren’t necessarily the best choice — but they can be if you follow these tips for staying warm:

    • Opt for thicker fabrics. Certain leggings, especially cotton ones, are too thin for chilly weather. Instead, choose leggings that are thicker, or better yet, lined with a warm lining like fleece that will help you retain heat.
    • Wear longer tops and/or jackets with your leggings. By opting for tops, sweaters, jackets, and coats that are longer in length (that cover your backside), you will stay warmer… and also avoid the hotly debated issue of whether leggings are considered pants or not.
    • Don’t leave your ankles exposed! Most leggings are ankle-length, and depending on your footwear, your ankles might be left exposed. And while that is perfectly fine during other seasons, in the fall and winter, it’s a recipe for feeling cold. To avoid this, go for shoes that rise above your ankles, like boots, or if you’re wearing sneakers, opt for high socks that will keep your ankles covered (and warm).

Luckily, leggings look great with almost any kind of footwear — emphasis on the “almost.” The very best footwear options for wearing with leggings are sneakers and boots of various heights (ankle, mid-calf, knee-high, and over-the-knee boots all work).

Since leggings have an athletic look to begin with, sneakers are always a prime choice. You can go full-on sporty with your outfit or go for a more relaxed athleisure look, depending on your vibe.

Boots are a must in the fall and winter and do a good job of balancing out slim-fitting leggings with their bulkier build. The choices are endless: combat boots, rain boots, Chelsea boots, you name it! They all look pair perfectly with leggings.

Unless you’re keeping it ultra-casual with some slip-on footbed sandals, I’d avoid wearing leggings and sandals, as these tend to look a bit mismatched. Sandals are better suited for summery items like shorts, skirts, and dresses. Flats are not an optimal choice for leggings either, as the proportions will look a bit off when worn together; instead, go for clogs and certain slippers (like platform Uggs).

    Leggings Outfits

Now, let’s get to the good part: the outfits! Check out these leggings outfit ideas for styling inspiration in the fall and winter.

Class to Night Out Leggings Outfit

So you have plans after your last class of the day, and you don’t have time to go back to your dorm (or college apartment) to change. *And* you want to be comfortable by wearing leggings. I’ve got you covered!

Your best bet is a pair of black flared leggings with a high-rise: these will look best with going-out tops rather than basic slim-fitting leggings. A small flare or bootcut will help to balance out the proportions of your outfit, plus they look cute worn with some black ankle booties with a short heel. This Chelsea-inspired pair has chunky lug soles with a short heel that is casual enough to wear during the daytime to class but also great for nighttime (or happy hour) wear.

The key to going from class to a night out during the fall is your outerwear. By wearing a class-appropriate jacket like an oversized plaid shacket over your going-out top — which can be a crop top, a corset top, a bralette, etc. — no one will be able to see what you’re wearing underneath! (So long as you keep it buttoned, of course). Then, once you get to your next destination, ditch the jacket and show off your cute top for the full effect. Layering is key for transitional outfits like this one.

You probably don’t want to bring your backpack to the party, bar, or wherever you’re headed, so opt for a tote bag instead. Be sure to accessorize with your favorite jewelry that will help your ensemble feel more dressed up; hoop earrings and a necklace can go a long way.

Faux Leather Leggings Going Out Outfit

Now if you’re headed on a night out and don’t have to worry about any classes right beforehand, you can go all out and rock a pair of faux leather leggings. These are the ultimate way to dress cool yet be comfortable, thanks to their leather-looking exterior.

Wear them with an eye-catching crop top like this silver rhinestone crop top which is giving major NYE vibes, especially when paired with some sparkly silver drop earrings. An oversized black blazer is the perfect way to ground the look and drape over your shoulders throughout the night.

As for footwear, you can wear over-the-knee boots, ankle booties, or heels. These black pointy-toe pumps with silver embellished ankle straps and bow details would be a stylish choice, along with a trendy silver knotted handbag.

    Athleisure Leggings Outfit

Of course, when it comes to athleisure and athletic outfits, leggings are the ultimate choice. For practical reasons, they are elite for workouts or athletic activities, but they’re also super comfy for just chilling in.

Either way, you can’t go wrong with some black athletic leggings (which are going to be thicker in fabric than cotton leggings) paired with running shoes and some crew socks.

A zippered fleece jacket (I love this one’s contrasting color scheme) is going to keep you warm in the fall and winter while also allowing you to move around comfortably.

By adding in cool accessories like some trendy sunglasses and a bright beanie hat for a pop of color, you will elevate this outfit and give it a “model-off-duty” look that makes it just as great for running errands or school as it is for going to a workout class.

    Fall Leggings Outfit

My favorite way to style leggings during the fall is with long, structured coats and boots. This combination is effortless but looks so chic.

Throw on some black leggings — this ponte pair is going to wear more like pants thanks to their heavier fabric — and a pair of chunky ankle or mid-calf boots. Rain boots and combat boots look great with this pairing, as well.

A longline coat is going to make the ensemble look put-together and fashion-forward — bonus points for one with a plaid print that looks autumnal. Wear it over a neutral-colored oversized sweater or shirt, and accessorize with a pair of gold hoop earrings. It’s an easy, comfy, and stylish combo.

    Winter Leggings Outfit

Winter time calls for your warmest clothing pieces, and while leggings may not instantly come to mind, a pair that is fleece-lined should do the trick. I highly suggest investing in a pair so that you’ll still be able to wear leggings even when it’s cold outside.

Bundle up in an oversized mock neck sweater (this one features an adorable fair isle pattern) and an ultra-warm puffer jacket. Not only is this neutral puffer stylish thanks to its flattering cinched waist detail, but it also boasts water-resistant and light-reflecting fabric. Plus, it’s long enough to cover your backside, making it legging-friendly, and it will keep you that much warmer.

Wear some warm socks over your leggings to retain heat, along with a pair of lace-up hiker boots or winter boots. I’m a fan of the faux shearling accents on these boots, which also feature durable lug soles. A matching knit beanie hat with a faux fur pom is going to add a cute touch while also being a must-have accessory during the chilly winter season.
