Zac’s friend, Australian talk show host Kyle Sandilands, defended him at the time, denying that he had any plastic surgery. “I would know if he’d had any plastic surgery,” Sandilands said in an episode of the The Kyle and Jackie O Show podcast at the time “It’s like getting a Picasso and having a kid finger paint all over it. Why bother?”
So what happened to Zac Efron’s face?
Zac responded to rumors he underwent plastic surgery on his face in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in September 2022. In the interview, Zac called the rumors “funny” and explained that his different-looking face was due to a jaw injury in 2013—not surgery. “My mom told me. I never really read the internet, so, I don’t really care,” he said.
He continued, “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.” Zac broke his jaw and had to have his mouth wired shut after he was running through his house in socks, slipped, hit his face on the granite corner of a fountain and lost consciousness. When he woke up, his chin bone was hanging off his face, according to Men’s Health. The injury also came around the time he tore his ACL, dislocated his shoulder, broke his wrist and threw out his back.
Zac told the magazine in September 2020 that he does physical therapy to rehabilitate the injury, but he stopped for a time, which caused facial issues. He also explained to the magazine that the muscles in his face work together “like a symphony,” so the masseter muscles in his face, which are used for chewing, had to overcompensate for his other facial muscles not being as strong.
While he was in Australia from 2020 to 2021, Zac took a break from his physical therapy. Around that time, he also recorded a video for Bill Nye’s “Earth Day Musical” special for Facebook Watch, where fans noticed that his chin looked different. “The masseters just grew,” he says.
“They just got really, really big.” Zac told Men’s Health that he wasn’t even aware of the response to the size of his jaw until his mother called to ask if he had undergone plastic surgery. As for the rumors, Zac told Men’s Health, “If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do,” he adds, “I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.”
On June 13, 2024, Zac stepped out on the red carpet at the premiere of his new Netflix rom-com, A Family Affair, looking more himself than ever. “Fillers dissolved, chin/jaw implant swelling gone….oh he’s so back,” one person tweeted. “Finally, he looks normal,” a second person chimed in about the former teen heartthrob’s face. “He looks so much better,” a third added.
The actor’s character even acknowledged the cosmetic change in the film. “People thought that my quad [muscles] were completely fake. As for his body, Zac previously revealed to Men’s Health that he started suffering from insomnia and depression after his physical transformation for 2017’s Baywatch. “I started to develop insomnia, and I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time,” he said. “Something about that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering.”
He continued, “Ultimately they chalked it up to taking way too many diuretics for way too long, and it messed something up.” Zac told Men’s Health that it wasn’t until 2022 that he started to feel like his old self again. “That Baywatch look, I don’t know if that’s really attainable,” he said. “There’s just too little water in the skin. Like, it’s fake; it looks CGI’d. And that required Lasix, a powerful diuretic, to achieve. So I don’t need to do that. I much prefer to have an extra, you know, 2 to 3 percent body fat.”
He recalled that it “used to be a dream” to have his body “in shape all the time.” But the changes came with a price. “What if I just say, “F**k it” and let myself go? So I tried it, and I was successful,” he said. “And for all the reasons I thought it would be incredible, I was just miserable. My body would not feel healthy; I just didn’t feel alive. I felt bogged down and slow.”
Zac also spoke about his regret over his Baywatch body in a 2020 episode of Hot Ones. “It’s just stupid. It’s just not real. I’m happy that it worked, I’m happy that it got me through it,” he said. “Take care of your heart, take care of your brain, you’re good.”

Taylor Swift has been in the music business for more than a decade, so it’s understandable to assume that the singer-songwriter is bathing in Grammys on Grammys. But how many Grammys does Taylor Swift have exactly? Well, the country-singer-turned-pop-star has been nominated for more than 40 Grammy awards.
Since the release of her first album, Taylor Swift, in 2006, Swift has released nine more albums— Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights—and has been nominated for more than 50 Grammys.
Compared to her earlier career, where she was once nominated for eight Grammys at a single awards show, Swift’s nominations now may seem lackluster. Swift’s first Album of the Year win in 2010. The singer-songwriter won for her sophomore album, Fearless, which was nominated for seven other awards at that year’s Grammys. She beat out artists like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Black Eyes Peas. After her win, Swift became the youngest solo artist to win Album of the Year at 20 years and 49 days.
“This is the story when we’re 80 years old and we’re going to be telling the same story over and over again to our grandkids and they’re so annoyed of us. This is the story we’re going to tell. In 2010, we got to win Album of the Year at the Grammys,” she said during her acceptance speech.
Best Country Album for Fearless (2010)

Swift also took home Best Country Album for Fearless at the 2010 Grammys. She was up against acts like Keith Urban, Zac Brown Band and George Strait. It was the first Grammy she won on the televised broadcast.
“I just keep thinking back to like when you’re in second grade and you sing at your talent show for the first time. People joke around and they say, ‘Oh maybe we’ll see you at the Grammys someday.’ But that seems like an impossible dream,” she said during her acceptance speech. “And I just feel like I’m standing here accepting an impossible dream right now and I just thank you so much for that.”

Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “White Horse” was the first Grammy Swift ever won. She accepted the award at the non-televised Grammys ceremony in 2010. “This is my first Grammy, you guys! This is a Grammy,” she exclaimed during her acceptance speech.

Best Country Solo Performance for “Mean” (2012)

2012 was the first year the Grammys had the Best Country Solo Performance category, which Swift won for “Mean” off her third album Speak Now. Swift wrote the song in response to a critic who wrote that she couldn’t sing, which she referenced in her acceptance speech. “There’s really no feeling quite like writing a song about someone who’s really mean to you and really hates you,” she said.

Swift also took home an award for Best Country Song for “Mean” in 2012. When she performed the song at the Grammys televised broadcast,she changed one of the lines to wink at the critic who thought that she wouldn’t be successful. “Someday I’ll be singing this at the Grammys,” she sang.

Swift’s second Album of the Year win came in 2016 when she took home the Grammy for her fifth album 1989. After the win, Swift became the first female artist to win Album of the Year twice. The singer beat out artists like Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd.
“As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there will be people along the way who will try to undercut your success,” she said in her acceptance, which many believed to be a jab toward Kanye West. “Or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”
Best Pop Vocal Album for 1989 (2016)

Swift’s first win for Pop Vocal Album was in 2016 for 1989. The win came after years of Grammys for Swift’s country music and marked her official turn as a pop artist in the academy’s eyes. Best Music Video for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” (2023)

Swift’s 12th Grammy was for Best Music Video in 2023 for All Too Well: The Short Film, the music video Swift’s song, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” from her 2021 album, Red (Taylor’s Version). The music video starred Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien as a couple experiencing the highs and lows of a relationship. Swift played an older version of Sink’s character.
In an interview at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021, Swift explained how “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” and its music video was an meditation on girlhood. “19 and 20 is such an interesting and profound age,” she said. “One foot still in girlhood but society telling you that you’re an adult.” Swift explained that different shots in the music video were meant to represent Sink’s character falling for an older man, struggling to fit in with his friends, and the feeling of isolation from her childhood friends when they break up. “An effervescent, curious young woman who ends up completely out of her depth … I wanted it to feel like them falling together was inevitable and like them falling apart was inevitable,” Swift said.
Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights (2024)
Swift’s 13th Grammy was for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2024 for her 10th album Midnights. During her acceptance speech, Swift also announced her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, which had a release date of April 19, 2024. “This is my 13th Grammy, which is my lucky number. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that. I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. I know that the way the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the fans. I want to say a thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m going to go and post the cover now backstage. Thank you. I love you. Thank you,” she said.
“All’s fair in love and poetry… New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out April 19 🤍,” she captioned an Instagram post after her Grammys speech.
Album of the Year for Midnights (2024)
Swift’s 14th Grammy was for Album of the Year in 2024 for Midnights. “All I want to do is keep doing this, so thank you all for giving me the opportunity to do what I love so much. Mind blown. Thank you so much,” she said. The award made Swift the first artist to win Album of the Year four times after Fearless, 1989 and Folklore.
Since the first Grammys in 1959, there have been hundreds of artists nominated. Still, female Grammy winners and women with the most Grammys are underrepresented when it comes to the total number of Grammy winners. Of the 14 artists with the most awards in Grammys history, only two of those are women. (And yes, one of those women is Beyoncé.)
For many of us, this news isn’t a surprise. Women have been underrepresented and discriminated against in the music industry since the start in Hollywood. In 2018, the Grammys went viral with the hashtag #GrammySoMale after Alessia Cara was the only woman to be presented an award at the televised ceremony. The controversy became worse when Recording Academy President Neil Portnow told Variety that women need to “step up” to have as many awards as men.
“It has to begin with… women who have the creativity in their hearts and souls, who want to be musicians, who want to be engineers, producers, and want to be part of the industry on the executive level… [They need] to step up because I think they would be welcome,” he said. “I don’t have personal experience of those kinds of brick walls that you face but I think it’s upon us—us as an industry—to make the welcome mat very obvious, breeding opportunities for all people who want to be creative and paying it forward and creating that next generation of artists.”
Many fans and female artists slammed Portnow for his comments. Pink, who has won three Grammys, blasted Portnow on Twitter, writing, “Women in music don’t need to ‘step up’. Women have been stepping up since the beginning of time. Stepping up, and also stepping aside. When we celebrate and honor the talent and accomplishments of women, and how much women step up every year, against all odds, we show the next generation of women and girls and boys and men what it means to be equal.”
Sheryl Crow, who is one of the most decorated women in Grammys history, responded, “I wish the Grammys would return to female/male categories. Who will young girls be inspired by to pick up a guitar and rock, when most every category is filled with men? I’m not sure it is about women needing to ‘step up’, (as said by the male in charge).”
Understandably, there needs to be a change in the Recording Academy. Women dominate the charts. Ahead are the female artists with the most awards in Grammys history.
Beyoncé – 32 Grammys

As of the 2023 Grammy Awards, Queen Bey became the equal most-awarded person in the history of the ceremony, with 31 awards. She’s tied with the late conductor George Solti. She also has more Grammys than her husband, Jay-Z. She received her first Grammy with Destiny’s Child in 2001. The girl group won two Grammys that year for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best R&B Song for “Say My Name.” Her first Grammy as a solo artist came in 2004, where she won five awards for her album Dangerously in Love and songs like “Crazy in Love” featuring her husband.
One of her most recent Grammys came in 2019 for Best Urban Contemporary Album for her dual album with Jay-Z, Everything Is Love. Bey tied the record with Alison Krauss at the 2021 Grammys after she won the Best Rap Song category for “Savage” with Megan Thee Stallion. She then proceeded to beat Krauss’ record when she won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance for “Black Parade.”
Alison Krauss – 27 Grammys

Krauss is one of the most awarded women in Grammys history and one of the most decorated singers ever. Krauss has the fourth most Grammys in history at 27 awards. She won her first Grammy in 1991 for Best Bluegrass Recording for her album I’ve Got That Old Feeling. Her most recent Grammy was in 2012 for Best Bluegrass Album for Paper Airplane.
Aretha Franklin – 18 Grammys

Franklin has been nominated at the Grammys 44 times and won 18 awards. Her first Grammy was 1968 for her song “Respect,” which earned her two awards that year. One of her most recent Grammys was 2008 for Best Gospel Performance for “Never Gonna Break My Faith” with Mary J. Blige.
Adele – 15 Grammys

Who is the Bachelor for 2024, Joey Graziadei? Joey is a 28-year-old professional tennis player from Koloa, Hawaii, and the runner-up on The Bachelorette Season 20 with Charity Lawson, was announced as the Season 28 Bachelor at The Bachelorette Season 20 “After the Final Rose” special in August 2023. “It’s sinking in very slowly but I’m trying my best just to stay present, enjoy it, but this is crazy. Chris’ decision to retire as Bachelor Nation’s host came after he was slammed for his response to season 25 Bachelor contestant Rachael Kirkconnell’s racism scandal in February 2021. Rachael, the winner of Matt James’ season, faced backlash at the time when photos resurfaced of her at an Old South Antebellum-themed party at Georgia College in 2018. Before the pictures went viral, Rachael was already under controversy after her former high school classmate accused her on TikTok of bullying her and other students for dating Black men. Other TikTok users then exposed Rachael for liking social media photos of her friends in culturally insensitive costumes and with Confederate flags.
Chris came under controversy after he was interviewed about the scandal by season 13 Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay on Extra. During the interview, Chris asked fans to give Rachael “grace” and explained that he didn’t find the Antebellum party photos offensive because they just looked like pictures a college student takes at a party. Harrison also questioned whether the photos would be considered racially insensitive in 2018 when they were taken. After the interview, many fans slammed Harrison and accused him of excusing Rachael’s behavior.
ABC confirmed in March 2021 that Chris wouldn’t host season 17 of The Bachelorette and would be replaced by Tayshia and Kaitlyn. “Chris Harrison will not be hosting the next season of The Bachelorette,” ABC said in a statement at the time. “We support Chris in the work that he is committed to doing. In his absence, former Bachelorettes Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe will support the new Bachelorette through next season. As we continue the dialogue around achieving greater equity and inclusion within The Bachelor franchise, we are dedicated to improving the BIPOC representation of our crew, including among the executive producer ranks. What’s on ITV? One of the most popular ITV shows to watch in the US is Love Island UK. The show, which premiered in 2015, starts with 10 or so singles who are invited to a villa on a tropical island with the hopes of finding love. Within moments of meeting each other, the contestants must couple up. As couples, the contestants are required to sleep in the same bed and complete challenges with each other, such as a classic Love Island game where they have to transfer food from their mouth to their partner’s. As the season continues, more contestants are invited to the villa, and islanders already there have to make a choice about whether to stay with their current partner or couple up with someone new.
Each week, there’s a re-coupling and the contestants who aren’t in a couple are sent home. In the end, the public votes for their favorite couple among the finalists, and the winner receives a cash prize. On Love Island UK, that prize is 50,000 pounds. However, the money doesn’t go to both members of the couple. It goes to one person at random. That person must then decide whether to share the money with their partner or keep it for themselves.
Love Island UK is hosted by Maya Jama and narrated by Iain Stirling. Jama opened up about her experiences hosting the reality love show in a press release “I love being able to have a bit more of a personal relationship with the Islanders and being able to see all the behind-the-scenes of what goes into making the show. It’s a nice feeling to be involved in a show that I’ve loved and been a fan of for so long.”
After hosting the Winter 2023 season, Jama opened up about her experiences and how it landed in the greatest time of her life, “It was perfect timing,” she explained to Grazia. “You know when you really want something, but it doesn’t happen the first time round? In an interview with GQ in 2021, Stirling opened up about how his experience on Love Island UK has changed over the years. “In previous years, it might have been, ‘Redo this joke, please,’” he said. “That’s pretty uncommon these days because the producers trust us more [laughs]. Me and Mark, my writing partner — he works for ITV Studios in development and he’s the guy who actually came up with the Love Island format, 50-year-old Scottish vegetarian, really interesting guy — we’ve just really got the tone down. We’ve also just started asking them beforehand, like, ‘Can we say this?’ Saves us a lot of time. Now, it’s things like, ‘Can you say these people’s names in a different order because they’re sat on a bed in this order?’”
He also told the magazine about how he knew Love Island UK would be a success from the first episode. “God’s honest truth — the very first coupling. When I saw the footage of the very first, original coupling on Season 1, I was like, ‘This is unbelievable,’” he said. “I couldn’t believe how much I cared about everyone instantly. The first time a boy came down and they said, ‘Step forward if you like him,’ and no one stepped forward I was like ‘I can’t not watch this, it’s madness.’”
He continued, “Especially then, they were all such characters. Like there was this girl, Hannah, who was from Liverpool — and for an American, now that is a fuckin’ linguistic journey. Her accent was unbelievable. And she was a former Playboy bunny, and she had this insane swimsuit on, and had had a lot of work done. There’s a big thing with women in Liverpool, Scouse girls, on a Saturday you walk around a mall in Liverpool, every woman has got rollers in her hair, getting ready for a night out. She just had this massive blow dry, her hair was huge, platinum blonde, and she had these glass heels on. A builder from Essex got coupled up with her. I was just like, ‘I love this.’ I loved it. I honestly loved it.”
Despite his witty narrations, Stirling also told GQ that he would “never” hurt contestants on purpose. “No, never. We were never told to make fun of the show. [Mark and I] figured that out ourselves. We just thought, if we make fun of the show first, other people can’t really,” he said. “Also, the only reason it works is because the show’s actually quite good. Like with making fun of the dates, the Islanders can be at a rubbish table or whatever with plastic champagne glasses, but they still have to be on quite a nice beach.”
He continued, “If they were just in someone’s shitty backyard and it looked terrible, and I said ‘that’s terrible,’ it’s not funny. It has to come from a point of actually being quite good. If the show ever actually gets bad, we are in a difficult position, because it’s not comedy if you’re just saying something’s bad that is bad. I think self-deprecation is also a very British thing. I’s very British to say, ‘This is bad. Isn’t that funny?’ You’ve got to say ‘I’m shit,’ and then everyone will go ‘Oh yeah, I’m shit as well.’ That’s what Love Island does really well.”

So…how much does Ryan Seacrest make from American Idol? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest made $5 million per season for the seasons one through eight of American Idol. In 2009, he signed a $45 million deal to continue to host American Idol for seasons nine through eleven, which paid him $15 million each season. (According Forbes, American Idol was the most profitable show on television in 2011, making $7.11 million each half hour, which was three times as much as the second most profitable show at the time, Two and a Half Men.)
In 2012, Seacrest signed a $30 million deal to continue to host American Idol for seasons 12 and 13, which paid him $15 million each season, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Seacrest hosts the American Idol reboot with judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Katy Perry. They had to expand their budget for Lionel,” a source told Page Six in 2017. “[ABC President] Ben Sherwood blew the budget on Katy without thinking how that would impact other areas of the show budget. He gambled on her because of her appeal to a younger audience and huge social-media following. But Katy is effectively taking money from the other judges, who then had to be paid way less.” The source continued, “The negotiations with Luke and Lionel have been fraught and difficult because of [Katy’s paycheck]. They expected similar deals to Katy, but are, in fact, getting a hell of a lot less. In the end, ABC had to cough up a second round of money to sign the other judges.”
Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of FremantleMedia North America, the production company behind American Idol, defended Perry’s salary in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “The show is not more expensive than its competitors in the genre. If other networks can make it work on similar properties, then there’s no reason why ABC couldn’t,” she said. “This notion that the show [costs] a lot more than any other is completely untrue. We know that because we’ve made other shows in other genres. ABC wouldn’t order something that didn’t work for them financially.” She also confirmed that ABC never considered any other hosts for the American Idol reboot aside from Seacrest. “It was always going to happen. It’s hard for Ryan. Speculation over what happened to Zac Efron‘s face and if he had plastic surgery started in April 2021 when he appeared in Bill Nye’s “Earth Day Musical” special for Facebook Watch, which led to questions from fans over his chin. “WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO ZAC EFRON LMAO, looks like he got stung by a bee,” Twitter user @KingAmadDiallo wrote at the time. Other users compared Zac’s face to The Weeknd’s prosthetics in his “Save Your Tears” music video. “Zac Efron was way too inspired by The Weeknd‘s face shape,” another user wrote.
Zac’s friend, Australian talk show host Kyle Sandilands, defended him at the time, denying that he had any plastic surgery. “I would know if he’d had any plastic surgery,” Sandilands said in an episode of the “The Kyle and Jackie O Show” podcast at the time “It’s like getting a Picasso and having a kid finger paint all over it. Why bother?” While he hasn’t spoken much about his face, Zac has been open about the pressure to maintain a certain physique level, especially after his body transformation for 2017’s Baywatch. “I realized that when I was done with that movie, I don’t ever want to be in that good of shape again,” Zac said in an interview on Hot Ones in April 2020. “You’re working with almost no wiggle room, right? You’ve got things like water under your skin that you’re worrying about, making your six-pack into a four-pack. Shit like that it’s just not … it’s just stupid.”

What happened to Zac Efron‘s face? Zac responded to rumors he underwent plastic surgery for his face in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in September 2022. In the interview, Zac called the rumors “funny” and explained that his different-looking face was due to a jaw injury in 2013—not surgery. “My mom told me. I never really read the internet, so, I don’t really care,” he said.
He continued, “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.” Zac broke his jaw and had to have his mouth wired shut after he was running through his house in socks, slipped, hit his face on the granite corner of a fountain and lost consciousness. When he woke up, his chin bone was hanging off his face, according to Men’s Health. The injury also came around the time he tore his ACL, dislocated his shoulder, broke his wrist and threw out his back.
Zac told the magazine in September 2020 that he does physical therapy to rehabilitate the injury, but he stopped for a time, which caused facial issues. He also explained to the magazine that the muscles in his face work together “like a symphony,” so the masseter muscles in his face, which are used for chewing, had to overcompensate for his other facial muscles not being as strong.
While he was in Australia from 2020 to 2021, Zac took a break from his physical therapy. Around that time, he also recorded a video for Bill Nye’s “Earth Day Musical” special for Facebook Watch, where fans noticed that his chin looked different. “The masseters just grew,” he says. “They just got really, really big.” Zac told Men’s Health that he wasn’t even aware of the response to the size of his jaw until his mother called to ask if he had undergone plastic surgery. As for the rumors, Zac told Men’s Health, “If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do,” he adds, “I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.”

As for his body, Zac revealed Men’s Health at the time that he started suffering from insomnia and depression after his physical transformation for 2017’s Baywatch. “I started to develop insomnia, and I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time,” he said. “Something about that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering.”
He continued, “Ultimately they chalked it up to taking way too many diuretics for way too long, and it messed something up.” Zac told Men’s Health that it wasn’t until 2022 that he started to feel like his old self again. “That Baywatch look, I don’t know if that’s really attainable,” he said. “There’s just too little water in the skin. Like, it’s fake; it looks CGI’d. And that required Lasix, powerful diuretics, to achieve. So I don’t need to do that.” He continued, “I much prefer to have an extra, you know, 2 to 3 percent body fat.”
Zac also spoke about his regret over his Baywatch body in a 2020 episode of Hot Ones. “It’s just stupid. It’s just not real. I’m happy that it worked, I’m happy that it got me through it,” he said. “Take care of your heart, take care of your brain, you’re good.”
As for his dating life, Zac told Cosmopolitan in 2017 that he often asks his younger brother, Dylan Efron, for relationship advice. “If I’m dating someone, one of the few people I need to weigh in on the situation is my brother,” he said at the time. “We live together, and we’re different in a lot of ways, but he’s really grounded. He lived a more normal life than I did growing up, so he’s a great barometer for me. He’ll be like, ‘Are you sure you’re happy? Is this what you really want?’ Having my little brother around is a really great thing.
Zac wished Dylan, who is four years younger than him, a happy birthday in an Instagram post in 2019. “Happy birthday @dylanefron! It was jarring at first, but we kind of put it together piece by piece,” Efron told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere.
“Individually, the wig by itself looks kind of ridiculous; by themselves, the clothes look pretty crazy. When you put them all together in the sets that our team built and get out there in the ring under those lights, it looks like the Von Erichs, man, and that was our goal. I think it added a lot to it.”

Since it debuted in 2011, there have been more than a dozen coaches on The Voice, from country crooners like Blake Shelton to pop heartthrobs like Nick Jonas. Each judge (and contestant) is different, which is why The Voice salaries and how much coaches make per season on the NBC show aren’t the same either.
Of The Voice‘s 19-plus seasons, Shelton was the longest-serving—from its premiere season until season 23—so it’s assumed that he earned the most. What are The Voice salaries and how much do coaches make per season? Read on for what The Voice salaries are for coaches like Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and more, and how much they made.
Blake Shelton (Seasons 1 – 23)

It’s unclear how much Shelton made in his first season on The Voice, but in 2016, around the same time as The Voice season 10, The Wrap reported that Shelton signed a deal with NBC to receive $13 million per season. Given that The Voice has two seasons a year, that means that Shelton rakes in an impressive $26 million a year—and maybe more if he’s signed a new deal since 2016. Celebrity Insider reported in 2019 that Shelton and his girlfriend, Gwen Stefan, received “an exceptional bonus to keep the spark alive on-camera” The source also noted that the bump made Shelton and Stefani’s salaries “significantly higher” than those of the other coaches.
Adam Levine (Seasons 1 – 16)

Salary: $14 million per season
Like Shelton, Levine was also an OG coach on The Voice. He left after season 16, but in 2016, The Wrap reported that he signed the same deal as Shelton to receive $13 million per season ($26 million a year.) However, after Levine quit The Voice, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that his salary was even higher at more than $14 million per season and close to $30 million a year.
Christina Aguilera (Seasons 1 – 3, 5, 8, 10)
Salary: $12.5 million – $17 million per season
The Wrap reported in 2014 that Aguilera made $17 million a season as a Voice coach in season 3 (much more than Levine and Shelton). The “Genie in a Bottle” singer quit after that season but returned in season 5, where she took a pay cut, according to The Wrap. For that season and onward, The Wrap reported that she earned $12.5 million a season.
CeeLo Green (Seasons 1 – 3, 5)

Salary: $2 million – $6.5 million per season
CeeLo was one of the OG coaches of The Voice. He left after season 5, claiming that the show “quickly became a job.” Money Nation reported that the singer made $2 million for his first season, which makes sense given that he was less of a household name as the other coaches. By the time he left, though, CeeLo was able to receive a raise, which made his paychecks $6.5 million a season.
Shakira (Season 4, 6)
Salary: $12 million per season
Shakira never won a season on The Voice, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t walk away with an impressive paycheck. The Hollywood Reporter claimed in 2012 that Shakira signed a deal for $12 million a season, which was a lot for a coach on the early seasons of The Voice. It’s unclear if she received a pay raise when she returned for season 6, but if she did, she would’ve likely made around the same $14 million salary as Levine and Shelton.
Usher (Season 4, 6)

Salary: $7 million per season
Usher starred on the same two seasons as Shakira, but he made about half her salary. The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the “Yeah” singer made $7 million per season when he signed on in season 4. It’s unclear how much he made to return to The Voice in season 6, but it still likely wouldn’t have been close to any of the other coaches’ salaries.
Gwen Stefani (Seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, 19, 22-24)

Salary: $13 million per season
Stefani became a Voice coach in season 7 and was paid $10 million a season at the time, according to CinemaBlend. However, the No Doubt singer received a $5 raise in season 12 after she and Shelton signed a deal to play up their romance for the cameras, which made her salary $13 million a season. It’s unclear how much Stefani received from The Voice to return as a coach for season 17 (Celebrity Insider reported that she and Shelton received another raise to show their romance onscreen), so it’s likely that she and Shelton earn around the $15 million mark.
Pharrell Williams (Seasons 7 – 10)

Salary: $8 million per season
Feel Guide reported in 2014 that Pharrell signed a deal for $8 million a season when he debuted as a Voice coach in season 7. It isn’t known whether he received a pay bump for his later seasons, but given his lower salary when he started, it’s unlikely that his pay would’ve matched that of Shelton or Levine.
Miley Cyrus (Seasons 11, 13)

Salary: $13 million per season
Cyrus was a Voice coach for seasons 11 and 13. Money Nation reports that the “Malibu” singer made $13 million a season for both seasons, which is a little less than what OGs Levine and Shelton made.
Alicia Keys (Seasons 11 – 12, 14)

Salary: $8 million per season
Money Nation reported in 2016 that Keys made $8 million a season, when she signed on as a Voice coach in season 11. The number isn’t as large as what Levine or Shelton made at the time, but it’s around the same as the pay of other non-OG voice coaches, like Pharrell and Usher.
Jennifer Hudson (Seasons 13, 15)

Salary: $8 million
There haven’t been any reports about what Hudson made on The Voice. But given that she’s an Oscar winner and a bonafide pop star, it’s likely that she made around the $8 million mark for her two seasons on the NBC singing competition. Given the salaries of her predecessors, it’s unlikely that she made more or even close to the salaries of OGs like Levine and Shelton, but we don’t estimate that Hudson’s salary was on the lower end either. Money Nation also reported in 2016 that first-time Voice judges make around $8 million for their first seasons.
Kelly Clarkson (Seasons 14 – 21, 23)

Salary: $15 million per season
When Clarkson debuted as a Voice coach in season 14, Radar Online reported that the American Idol winner signed a deal to receive $15 million per season (a.k.a. $28 million a year.) It’s unclear if the “Since U Been Gone” singer has received a raise since then (she has won three seasons), but if she has, her paycheck could likely be the highest of any Voice coach.
John Legend (Seasons 16 – 22)

Salary: $13 million per season
It’s also unclear what Legend makes as a coach on The Voice. He signed on in season 16 and is a current coach on season 18. He’s also the first EGOT to be a coach on The Voice, which must earn him something, given that the man has about a bajillion Grammys. According to OK! magazine, he made $13 million per season as a judge.
Nick Jonas (Seasons 18, Season 20)

Salary: $8 million
Season 18 marked Jonas’ first season as a Voice coach, so there’s little information about how much he was paid for the role. He’s also one of the younger singers to star on The Voice, so he could make a similar salary to Cyrus—$13 million—though that’s unlikely. Given his career, we estimate that he makes around the $8 to $10 million mark. Money Nation also reported in 2016 that first-time Voice judges make around $8 million for their first seasons.
Ariana Grande (Season 21)

Salary: $20 – $25 million per season
Grande announced that she will be a judge on The Voice season 21 in an instagram post in March 2021. “surprise !!! i am beyond thrilled, honored, excited to be joining @kellyclarkson @johnlegend @blakeshelton next season ~ season 21 of @nbcthevoice ! 🤍 @nickjonas we will miss you,” she wrote at the time. According to OK magazine, she will be paid $20 to $25 million for the season, which makes her the highest paid judge ever on The Voice. “Ariana is getting in the $20 to $25 million range to join the show,” a source told OK!, comparing the deal to Kelly Clarkson who “negotiated a whopping $15 million when she joined the show.”
Camila Cabello (Season 22)

Cabello made her debut on The Voice in September 2022 on season 22. While Cabello’s Voice salary hasn’t been confirmed, Money Nation reported in 2016 that first-time Voice judges make around $8 million for their first seasons.
Niall Horan (Season 23, 24)

Horan made his debut on The Voice in March 2023 as a coach on season 23. While his salary hasn’t been confirmed, The Sun reported that he was expected to make around $8 million per season, which is what other Voice coaches made for their first seasons. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Horan is worth $70 million.
Chance the Rapper (Season 23)

Chance the Rapper made his debut on The Voice in March 2023 as a coach on season 23. While Chance the Rapper’s salary hasn’t been confirmed, The Sun reported that he was expected to make $8 million per season, which is the starting salary for most Voice coaches for their first season.

It hasn’t been publicly disclosed how much Reba McEntire makes per season of The Voice, but we can assume it hovers around the $13 million mark because that’s the average salary for hosts. McEntire replaced Shelton after he announced he was leaving after season 23. But with how saturated the market is at the moment with other streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Disney±—the list goes on), it’s understandable why TV lovers want to know if there’s a way to watch Peacock for free without the commitment of a subscription. Well, ahead is a breakdown on how to watch Peacock for free and binge your favorite NBCUniversal shows.

Is Peacock free?
Yes! Peacock is free. Viewers can watch thousands of hours of TV shows and movies, as well as sports and news, at no cost. (That includes The Office!) All you have to do is sign up for a free account with your email. That said, while Peacock offers a free plan, that doesn’t mean that everything on Peacock is available at no cost.
How much does Peacock cost?
Peacock offers two paid plans. Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus. Peacock Premium costs $5.99 per month and Peacock Premium Plus costs $11.99 per month. Peacock Premium allows subscribers to access everything in the free plan, as well as live sports, Peacock original series, next-day episodes of NBC shows and more movies and TV shows that aren’t available in the free account. Peacock Premium Plus is the exact same as Peacock Premium except subscribers won’t have to watch ads and can stream their shows offline on their mobile devices.
Do Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus have free trials?
Unfortunately, Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus do not have free trials. However, there are a couple ways to still receive a free Peacock Premium subscription.
In an interview with The Wrap in 2019, NBCUniversal’s CEO Steve Burke explained how Peacock is different than streaming services like Netflix .“We’re not doing the same strategy that Netflix and people chasing Netflix have adopted,” he said at the time. He noted that what made Peacock different than other streaming services was its free, ad-supported plan that made it more affordable than other subscription-based services. “I think we’re gonna get to cruising altitude much more quickly than a subscription service,” he said.
Is Peacock worth It?
Is Peacock worth it? In an interview with Vulture in 2022, Peacock’s president, Kelly Campbell, opened up about what it was like to launch Peacock amid the current health crisis in 2020. “I actually think Peacock took a really strong approach when it came to entering the market with original content, especially given all the headwinds with COVID,” she said. “Peacock launched more than 70 originals in the first year and a half. We are looking to launch another 50 to 60 this year. We might not see the volume that we saw immediately at launch, but we are really focused and have learned a lot in that time. We’ve got a couple years of first-party data now, and so we’re in a really good position to make smart content decisions when it comes to originals and to take big swings. That’s exactly what we’re doing in partnership with our development team and studios.”
She also told the site about how Peacock is different than other streaming services, with original content like Marry Me and Bel-Air and and exclusive streaming events like the Olympics and the Super Bowl. “Record breaking in every way. It’s hard to find the right words to express just how big February [2022] has been for us. Peacock broke records on every front, from new subscribers and usage to concurrent streams and more in just one month, and really that long weekend you referenced,” she said. “We launched the most-streamed Olympics, the most-streamed Super Bowl. We had the most-streamed film launch with Marry Me. It is trending quickly to become the most-streamed film of all time on Peacock. We launched our most-streamed original series, Bel-Air, which is already the third-most-streamed title on the platform of all time and trending very quickly to become our top series — and that’s with only five episodes out there. So we can only imagine just how high that can go.”
Campbell also referenced Yellowstone and The Office as two of Peacock’s most streamed shows, as well as Bel-Air, a Peacock original and a reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. “Yellowstone and The Office are incredibly successful on Peacock,” she said. “But think about how many hours of content are available for those titles, and that with Bel-Air we only have five episodes available so far. So to already be in that space with titles like that is pretty incredible. And relative to other originals, I would say Bel-Air is on an entirely new trajectory.”
Campbell also told Vulture about Peacock’s plan at the time to be NBC Universal’s exclusive streaming service for shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Saturday Night Live, which have also been previously available to stream on competitors like Hulu. “I can’t speak to the specifics, but Peacock will become the exclusive streaming home of NBC current-season content later this year. We do think it’s a big deal. We see this as an opportunity to lean into that broader strategy — bringing the best content in the market to consumers, including the best of NBCU’s portfolio content,” she said. “In bringing that content home to Peacock, it also gives us a lot of opportunities to think about windowing, and how we program across our entire portfolio. Shows like La Brea, Saturday Night Live, Law & Order: SVU — these are among the most-watched current series on Peacock. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is another example. That became the most-watched NBC telecast of [2021] and the No. 2 live event in Peacock history at that time, behind only WrestleMania. We’re also experimenting with windowing. With [Bravo’s] Below Deck Mediterranean, we launched episodes one week early on Peacock, and that was able to really grow that audience.”
Campbell also spoke about Peacock’s free plan, which she considered a “smart move” that differentiates the service from its competitors. “I don’t think it was a mistake. I think it was a smart move. I think the free and bundled approach played a really critical part in scaling Peacock,” she said. “The free tier served a couple of purposes. First of all, it opened up the funnel. A very large portion of the total addressable market has signed up for and engaged with Peacock in some way since the launch. We were also able to replicate the model in Europe with Sky and put Peacock in front of consumers outside of the U.S. earlier than planned beginning last November. So the free tier to date has been an incredibly effective platform for customers to sign up, explore, and just enter the Peacock ecosystem.”
She continued, “That being said, consumers are voting with their time and with their wallets, and they’re spending more time on our paid and bundled tiers, and increasingly they’re choosing to sign up for our paid and bundled tiers. Those who pay us directly, in fact, make up the largest and fastest growing portion of our active accounts. We shared recently in our earnings that we have more than 9 million paid subscribers and more than 7 million bundled subscribers out of 25 million monthly active users. Our paid and bundled consumers make up about 75 percent of total viewership on the service, and that’s growing as well. We got to this point of being able to focus more on building our dual-revenue paid business model a lot more quickly than planned.”
Campbell, who used to work at Hulu, also spoke of Peacock’s business plan and how it may look different than other streaming services. “I think when Peacock entered the market, there was a realization that it wasn’t just about disruption or being the first to market or being the first to scale. It’s really about having the right content and building a quality relationship with consumers,” she said. “You’re not going to hear us talking about these big numbers and providing no clarity on what’s within them. We’re really focused on building a long-term, sustainable business. We’re in the long game. It’s not just about scale. It’s about scaling while building a quality relationship with consumers. I think that’s a different lens than perhaps other streamers, especially at other points in time, may have looked at the market through. I think Peacock is really going to be focused on that idea of creating value, building a sustainable business. We’re focused on the long game.”
To continue to grow Peacock, Campbell also understands how important original films like Marry Me and Halloween Kills are to the service. “We’re very invested in film. We believe film is incredibly valuable to streaming audiences. But just to back up a little bit and put it into context, we look at film as a category overall. We do that very much in partnership with Donna Langley and the Universal Pictures team more broadly,” she said. “When we look at the Peacock film strategy, we look at it through a few different lenses. We look at it through the pay-one deal, which is structured to bring films that launch in theaters to Peacock audiences more quickly than they would have come in the past. We are also still opportunistically bringing films from Universal to Peacock day-and-date. We are investing in film from a licensed and library perspective, both looking very closely at our catalog within the NBCU ecosystem and at third-party opportunities, such as Harry Potter. And, of course, original film is an opportunity for Peacock, and we are planning to make investments there in partnership with Donna and the Universal team.”
