Riley Keough’s Husband Reveals Birth of Daughter at Lisa Marie Presley’s Memorial

    [ad_1]

Sunday was a day of extreme emotions at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. Friends and family gathered to pay tribute to Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley who died suddenly earlier this month at the age of 54. But during the service, Ben Smith-Petersen revealed that he and his wife, Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley Keough, had just given birth to a daughter.

Smith-Peterson read a letter written by the 33-year-old Logan Lucky and The Terminal List star, which said in part, “Thank you for showing me love is the only thing that matters in this life. I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters.” Page Six confirmed with representatives that the couple has, indeed, welcomed a daughter.

Ben Smith-Petersen is an Australian stuntman, and he and Keough met on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2012. (He played the “Doof Warrior,” the guy who belted out power chords on the electric guitar while shooting fire out of the neck as Immortan Joe’s War Boys raced into battle.) The two have been married since 2015, and this is their first child, and also Priscilla’s first great-grandchild.

Lisa Marie’s last public appearance was just two days before her demise, at the Golden Globe Awards. She appeared on the red carpet with Austin Butler, the star of Baz Luhrmann’s biopic, Elvis, which was nominated for Best Picture—Drama category. Butler, winning the Best Actor—Drama prize, thanked the entire Presley family in his acceptance speech for “opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I’ll love you forever.”

In addition to the Keogh and Smith-Peterson news, Lisa Marie Presley’s memorial saw tributes from Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, who read a poem, and musical performances by Alanis Morrissette, Axl Rose, and Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins. Lisa Marie’s body will rest at Graceland alongside that of her son, Benjamin Keough, who died in 2020.

  • Daisy Jones & The Six Inspired Trends To Catch Early

Daisy Jones & The Six Inspired Trends To Catch Early

    [ad_1]

In all my time on BookTok, there have only been a few novels that actually earned the hype. The algorithm crams book after book down your throat but then, surprisingly, you find one that’s well worth the wait. In this instance, I’m talking about Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

I read this a few years ago and forced everyone in my immediate circle to do the same the second I turned the last page. From start to finish, it’s flawless. It’s a fictionalized epic based on the notorious drama behind Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. It’s as if you interviewed the tumultuous, mystical band and they left nothing on the table.

The book follows Daisy Jones, a mesmerizing artiste who was clearly born to be a star. It leads us through the 60’s along her inevitable rise to fame. Daisy had the looks, the voice, and the attitude — sleeping with rockstars and dabbling with drugs. At the same time, the band The Six led by the angsty Billy Dunne are taking off. When an eagle-eyed producer matches Daisy with The Six, the world is forever changed.

    Amazon Prime

Cue the drama. The merger of Daisy Jones + The Six goes on to impact the music industry as their internal drama becomes public. The tale twists and turns until one final concert at Chicago’s Soldier Field signals the end of their time together.

Now, years later, a rising journalist gets the chance to hear their sides of the story. It’s equal parts sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

The story is so addictive it can’t be missed. So if you’re not a reader, you’re in luck. The upcoming TV adaption debuts on March 3, 2023 on Amazon Prime. The 10 episode miniseries is already garnering buzz with a promising cast.

Riley Keough, daughter of the late Lisa Marie Presley and granddaughter of Elvis, will play the lead Daisy and Sam Claflin (Me Before You) will play Billy. Other notable names are Suki Waterhouse and Camila Morrone, who you may also know as Leonardo DiCaprio’s ex-girlfriend.

I can already feel a 70’s-style resurgence on the horizon. This is Gen-Z’s Almost Famous, without a doubt. The way the TikTok community will never be the same after this miniseries premiers. I don’t even know if SHEIN has enough bell bottoms in stock for the trend-hungry consumers.

Sometimes, you can sniff a trend from a mile away. Call me crazy, but I just know we are all going to obsess over the It Girls from Daisy Jones — just like we did with Euphoria. Get your record players out, here are the top trends Daisy Jones & The Six will reignite:

    A Curtain Bang Resurgence

No one did curtain bangs and blowouts quite like the women of the 70’s. Whip out those Revlon blow dry brushes (or Dyson Air Wraps for the blessed) and cut your front pieces. We are aiming for bombshell hair and wispy bangs.

Remember, blow dry the top parts and front pieces of your hair away from your face to get the utmost volume.

    The Bell Bottom

Honestly, I live for bell bottom jeans. While the baggy jean look has reigned for months, sometimes I like a little shape in my jeans. I’m not talking about anything crazy like skinny jeans, but a fitted thigh is all I need.

I guarantee you that every cast member of this show will at one point rock a pair…and I equally promise that every store will be pushing the 70’s favorite jeans by April.

    Band Tees

I can totally see a revival of retro band tees coming back into Urban Outfitters. The oversized vintage-style tee is all the rage, so slap on a picture of the Rolling Stones logo and you’re in business.

Nothing says “I’m with the band” quite like a vintage-inspired tee. This one from Urban is exactly what I’m talking about.

    Amazon Prime

    Record Players

Remember that era in 2014 when everyone went out and bought a Crosley record player with Tumblr-recommended aesthetic records like The Neighbourhood and The 1975? I just have the weirdest inkling that we are on the cusp of roaming around record stores yet again.

There’s no shame, my dining room wall is covered in vintage records I bought on a discount at my local record store. Bring on all the vinyl for me.

    Fur Vests

Anything fur-lined really. A fur vest is the ultimate accessory for your weekend outfit. Seriously, I act differently when I wear a fur vest. Add a pair of sunnies and you’re a rockstar with other places to be.

My personal rec is this Free People fur vest that’s perfect for literally any occasion.

Austin Butler Remembers Lisa Marie Presley’s ‘Warmth,’ ‘Love’ And ‘Authenticity’

    [ad_1]

“Elvis” star Austin Butler paid tribute to the late Lisa Marie Presley on Friday with an emotional statement about her death.

“I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared,” the actor told People. “Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered.”

Lisa Marie Presley had repeatedly praised Butler’s performance in the Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic. In May, she said on Instagram that Butler had “channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul beautifully.” She added, “If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I will eat my own foot, haha.”

Butler told People his “heart is completely shattered” for Presley’s family following her “tragic and unexpected loss.” She is survived by her mother, Priscilla Presley, and three of her children, including actor Riley Keough. Benjamin Keough, her son, died in 2020.

At the Golden Globe Awards, Butler had thanked the family for “opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me.” He added, “Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever.”

  • ‘Elvis’ Producers Criticized For Casting Austin Butler In Role Of Iconic Black Singer

‘Elvis’ Producers Criticized For Casting Austin Butler In Role Of Iconic Black Singer

    [ad_1]

LOS ANGELES—As awards season arrives and critics take note of the film’s problematic whitewashed casting, the Golden Globe–nominated Elvis faced increased scrutiny this week for casting Austin Butler in the role of the iconic Black singer. “Using a white actor to portray a world-renowned African American who single-handedly revolutionized pop music is regrettable, to say the least,” critic Ibrahim Lawrence wrote in the Los Angeles Times, suggesting that actors of color had little hope of succeeding in today’s film industry if producers couldn’t even bring themselves to give a Black man the starring role in a musical biopic about Elvis Presley. “And it’s so unnecessary. Why not cast Jonathan Majors? LaKeith Stanfield? Even Michael Ealy could’ve knocked it out of the park, but once again, Hollywood has chosen to engage in historical erasure to fit a white-centric ideal, in this case an Elvis who would be palatable to a larger demographic. Hearing classics like ‘Baby Let’s Play House,’ ‘Hound Dog,’ and ‘In The Ghetto’ coming out of a white man’s lips is nothing short of jarring.” Though his decision to take the part has been condemned in most quarters, many critics have nonetheless praised Butler for his refusal to wear blackface in his depiction of Presley.

Golden Globes 2023 Recap: Invite Jennifer Coolidge To Every Awards Show

    [ad_1]

In case you missed it, the less important version of the Oscars was last night! The Golden Globes were three and a half arduous hours of acceptance speeches and praise for what felt like the same three movies and shows. If you didn’t get to see the entire awards ceremony, don’t worry. I sure did. Let me catch you up.

For starters: Austin Butler. No surprise here, Butler won best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture for Elvis. I mean, with a voice permanently stuck in Elvis’ cadence, you’d hope he gets his recognition.

There were several awards given to the cast of Abbott Elementary, but the real award of the night goes to Tyler James Williams’ power pantsuit. Quinta Brunson’s mid-speech shoutout to a front-row Brad Pitt will forever live in my memory.

We’ve all learned that what makes these shows bearable is inviting Jennifer Coolidge and handing her the mic. After warning the crowd that pronunciation wasn’t her strongsuit, the White Lotus favorite stole the show with quite the tearjerker.

With equally iconic speeches from herself and creator, Mike White, Coolidge credits White for getting her neighbors to speak to her again and giving her life even though he killed her off in the show. Similarly, Mike White called out the audience for “passing onWhite Lotus originally.

What a year it was for streaming TV shows. Hopeful nominees like Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Evan Peters (Dahmer), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) were notable names in the crowd. Both Jeremy Allen White and Evan Peters received their first ever Golden Globe.

    Michelle Yeoh

Movies like The Fabelman’s, The Banshees of Inisherin, and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once took home multiple awards. My personal favorite speeches came from Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, who spoke about second chances in the industry. Yeoh even threatened physical violence when the music turned on to usher her off stage.

And with the season opener of Awards Season behind us, it’s time to buckle up. We’re just getting started.

There are few creative mediums that pair as well as fashion and film. The right costumes help advance the story’s plot, while motion captures clothing’s most dramatic displays. This symbiotic relationship has produced some of the most iconic, seared-in-our-brain images over time — and 2022 had a few strong contenders to be added to that list.

From the flamboyant dresses on “Bridgerton” and the glittery and trend-setting looks from “Euphoria” to the alternate-dimension-defining clothes of “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and the powerful, emotional costumes of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” film and television provided us tons of with rich, memorable fashion this year that we know we’ll be revisiting.

Dressed to Kill (and Thrill): Costumes Fit for an Oscar

    Babylon (Paramount)

We meet Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie) in Babylon just as she’s skidded her car onto the front lawn of a glamorous Hollywood house party she’s hoping to crash. She steps out of the car in a skintight red ensemble with a plunging neckline that immediately signals this is someone who captures people’s attention—even in a rollicking bash with an elephant, debaucherous dancers, and a little person hopping around on a penis-shaped pogo stick. Babylon costume designer and three-time Oscar nominee Mary Zophres says of Robbie’s lady-in-red entrance, “We knew that it needed to be striking, we wanted it to be sexy, and we wanted it to stand out in the crowd.”

Director Damien Chazelle told Zophres early on that he wanted to avoid typical looks from the 1920s and 1930s in his Hollywood period piece. But the designer wanted this look to be something that Nellie, a scrappy aspiring actor, could have made herself at home during that period. “She’s trying to get away with as little clothing as possible but still be allowed into the door,” says Zophres, who went through six different prototypes before landing on this look. At first, the vintage-silk top was paired with pants, but then, inspired by an image of a woman from the Ziegfeld Follies, Zophres created a pair of hot pants and wrapped a sarong around it. “Instantly, you know somebody daring is wearing that,” Zophres says. “Someone who’s got a zest for life and is not afraid to take chances.”

  • The Best Celebrity Memes of 2022

The Best Celebrity Memes of 2022

    [ad_1]

    By JC Villamere.

From big events like the Super Bowl and the Oscars to big stars from Nicole Kidman to Jack Harlow, there were plenty of moments worthy of the meme treatment this year. Here, we look back at some of our faves.

Back on Feb. 13 at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Eminem, 50 Cent treated the crowd to his 2003 hit “In Da Club” and recreated the video’s opening by hanging upside down. Cue the kick-off for many a meme:

The hip-hop mogul also got in on the game with a few memes of his own:

In a now-deleted Instagram post from November, Vin Diesel called for WNBA athlete Brittney Griner’s release from Russian prison, writing “I need Brittney Griner home before Christmas,” alongside a photo of himself at a basketball match. Following Griner’s release in a prisoner exchange for arms dealer on Dec. 8, social media users jokingly thanked the actor for his part.

Some users believed the actor singlehandedly infiltrated the Russian prison by himself.

A meta meme was born when Spider-Man stars Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire suited up to recreate the Spider-Man pointing meme.

Spider-Man was hot meme fodder beyond the triple-point pose, too:

    The Acade-meme Awards

The Oscars is a perennial feast of memes, and this year was no different. While reliable meme star Nicole Kidman pulled her weight, there was obviously a new source of inspiration for meme-makers at the 2022 ceremony.

This reaction shot was initially thought to be in response to The Slap, but it was later revealed that it was shot before the show got underway. It makes you wonder what her slap reaction looked like.

Cameras caught a catty chat between Caitlyn Jenner and Lady Gaga outside the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 30th annual Academy Awards Viewing Party.

Jenner: “Are you spending time around Malibu anymore?”
    Gaga: “Yes.”
Jenner: “I haven’t seen you at the Starbucks in a while.”
    Gaga: “I’ve switched baristas.”
    Gaga abruptly exits stage right.

Prestige Memes Courtesy of the Royals

Let’s start off with the smallest and cutest of them all.

The four-year-old appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony with his fam, but he was not a fan of the sound of the Royal Air Force fly-over.

Elsewhere, royal watchers were identifying with Prince Harry’s priorities.

And folks were feeling King Charles III’s anxiety level as he prepared to ascend to the throne:

And now, let’s move on from royalty to The King.

This sweaty shot of “Elvis” star Austin Butler as the icon in the ’70s was too hot not to meme:

After the nearly-finished, $90-million “Batgirl” movie was suddenly cancelled, fans used the meme medium and the hashtag #HBOMaxJustCanceled to theorize what else might be on the chopping block:

Martha Stewart, 81, maintains that Davidson is like a son to her, but that didn’t stop creators from speculating about her relationship with the BDE originator.

The star received a  muted reception for his performance at ‘College GameDay’, and meme-makers had a field day.

His chat with the ESPN panel didn’t do him any favours:

Meanwhile, on the basketball court, NBA refs had questions about — and for — the star:

    Harlow offered a mythically-minded response:

A negroni sbagliato with prosecco in it = stunning! This interview clip discussing drink choices was seized on by fans:

@hbomaxI’ll take one of each. #houseofthedragon♬ a negroni sbagliato w prosecco l hbo max – hbomax

On the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Julia Fox was asked if she was then-boyfriend Kanye “Ye” West’s muse.

She replied, “Yeah. A little. I mean, I was Josh Safdie’s muse when he wrote ‘Uncut Gems’, you know?” But her elaborate pronunciation of “Uncut Gems” was catnip to TikTok users, who garnered millions of views with their imitations of “Unka Jhaaaams.”

Over on Reddit, the most popular celebrity memes of the year featured the beloved Dwayne Johnson:

It’s bad enough to be caught up in an Instagram cheating scandal. It’s even worse when the world makes fun of your (lack of) DM game.

Here’s hoping that 2023 brings an equally mind-blowing meme harvest. That’s our one Christmas wish. It’s the toast we’ll be making on New Year’s Eve. It’s our biggest hope for the holidays. Feel free to meme it.
