When you think of an ergonomic or practical shoe, chic might not be the first word to come to mind. So when I was introduced to Kizik and its patented hands-free technology, I was surprised to discover how stylish the brand’s slip-on shoes were. Many of Kizik’s everyday styles look like any other sneaker (replete with shoelaces and various sleek designs), but their hands-free tech means you don’t have to bend down to tie them or hold down the heel or tongue to get your feet into the shoe.

Each style comes with a heel cup that’s designed to compress and bounce back, so you can simply slip them on and off without crushing the back or losing the shape of the shoe. But the added tech doesn’t mean they’re heavier or come with extra bulk — Kiziks may be one of the most lightweight sneakers I’ve ever owned.

I got the opportunity to try the Kizik Women’s Paris Sneaker ($135), the brand’s newest shoe, a few weeks before its release in its namesake city. Fifty thousand steps later, I can confirm these sneakers held up in the most fashionable city in the world on all fronts. Keep reading to see why they’re now my go-to shoes for traveling.

    Main Image

What I Like About the Kizik Paris Sneaker

For me, sneakers are split into two categories: athletic running shoes for the gym or other active purposes, and cute sneakers for everyday street style. Comfort in general is important to me, but I’ve been known to choose style over it on numerous occasions. So while I love my Hokas or On sneakers for HIIT workouts, I’ll never wear them with jeans or even an exercise dress to run errands in.

It’s not often there’s overlap between these categories, but Kizik’s Paris sneakers crossed over into that middle ground. During my weekend trip in Paris, I averaged about 15,000 steps a day in these shoes with no issue. The refined leather sneakers paired perfectly with my neutral, French-girl inspired outfits, with the rose gold detailing serving as a subtle pop of color.

Aside from the aesthetics, the shoes are truly comfortable and required no breaking in — something I’ve never experienced with leather sneakers. This particular pair is made with nubuck leather, which is more durable and breathable than typical synthetic leathers.

Though I was initially skeptical, I also found the hands-free feature to be such a game changer. The Paris sneakers are designed with Kizik’s patented External Flex Arc, which compresses against the back of the midsole and springs back up when stepped in. I didn’t realize how much time I’d been spending stopping to tie my shoes, twisting my feet into already-laced shoes, or using shoehorns to slide them on until I didn’t have to think about it at all. It was especially ideal for traveling: slipping them off on a long flight or passing through airport security, where shoe removal is required.

What to Consider Before Trying the Kizik Paris Sneaker

Kiziks are not waterproof or machine washable, though you can remove the insoles and wash them separately. So if you’re someone who’s careful about maintaining clean, white shoes, that’s something to keep in mind. I ended up wearing these sneakers in Paris’s random bursts of summer rain, and while they got wet, they did dry quickly. They also come with a sturdy rubber outsole to combat slippery streets. When it comes to cleaning the Paris sneakers, the brand recommends spot cleaning with a soft cloth only.

Unlike most other styles from Kizik, the Paris does not come in wide sizes, only standard.

Who’s the Kizik Paris Sneaker Best For?

Kizik’s hands-free tech is ideal for those who have limitations that make bending down and tying shoes difficult — such as reduced mobility or pregnancy. But they’re also great for anyone in search of a comfortable, stylish shoe for daily wear.

    Additional Details:

    • These sneakers come in three colors: Pristine Amberlight, Metallic White, and Black Pristine.
    • They’re available in sizes ranging from women’s 6 to 13.
    • The Paris comes with a cushiony midsole, allowing for more momentum and absorbing impact.

Where Is the Kizik Paris Sneaker Available?

Kizik’s Paris sneakers are currently only available to shop on the brand’s site, though other styles are available at retailers like Amazon and Nordstrom.

The last time I wore a midi skirt was probably the summer after I started middle school. You could’ve called me Lizzie McGuire then, because I was a shameless outfit repeater. I wore one teal tiered peasant skirt just about everywhere. Now that I can look back at my middle school days fondly (instead of cringing), I’ll be the first to admit that despite my many fashion misses, that skirt was probably the best addition to my wardrobe at the time.

So when I began seeing long, white breezy skirts everywhere last summer — and was reminded of the merits of owning pieces that are easy to throw on in hot weather — I started looking for the perfect white skirt. After trying on dozens of skirts over the span of a year that were too long, too thin, or too sheer, I finally found the Lowen Midi Skirt ($60) at Free People — and it’s so good I’ve been outfit repeating (again) this summer.

    Main Image

What I Like About the Free People Lowen Midi Skirt

What I love about the Lowen Midi Skirt is how effortlessly chic it is. In my opinion, a classic A-line silhouette is timeless. I also like that this billowy skirt is made of 100 percent cotton, which means it’s lightweight and comfortable for warm weather. And despite being airy and light, the skirt doesn’t feel thin, thanks to a poplin fabric that gives it a bit more structure. Another bonus? The skirt has pockets! Those were not expected, but of course greatly appreciated.

Another thing I look for in my summer staples is versatility, and I’m happy to report that I’ve already worn this skirt to a summer soirée, the airport, and lunch with friend; it’s safe to say that this skirt has earned its place in my wardrobe for the summer and beyond. I’ve paired the ivory skirt with some ballet flats and elevated accessories for a fancier feel and dressed it down by throwing on a T-shirt and sneakers, too.

What to Know Before Buying the Free People Lowen Midi Skirt

I loved the fit and fabric of the skirt, but will admit that the skirt is still on the sheer side. I could get away with wearing skin-toned underwear or shorts underneath, but some might feel more comfortable with a slip.

The brand also notes that this particular style runs big, so you can size down for a more fitted look. I sized down and thought it fit just right — the elastic waistband cinched in my waist. The skirt length was accurate, but I will note that I’m just under 5’7″, so it may fit more like a maxi skirt than a midi skirt if you’re shorter than me.

Who the Free People Lowen Midi Skirt Is Best For

Free People’s Lowen Midi Skirt is perfect for anyone who is looking for a simple but chic addition to their wardrobe. The cotton material is flowy and comfortable, especially on hot days, which makes it a great piece for spring and summer.

Additional Details About the Free People Lowen Midi Skirt

    • The Lowen Midi Skirt is made of 100 percent cotton.
    • The skirt comes in five colors: Ivory, Black, Sugar Magnolia, Heart Eyes, and Mellow Yellow.
    • It is available in sizes XS-XL.

When I find a handbag I love, I wear it constantly, sometimes until I’m teetering on the brink of growing tired of it. To change things up every now and then, I make it a mission to hyper-focus on just one designer handbag per season. During the winter, my trusty companion was the Coach Pillow Tabby Shoulder Bag 20, which featured squishy quilting that made me feel cozy just looking at it. When spring came, my obsession shifted to my beloved Staud Leather Moon Bag, which constantly drew compliments. Now, the Gap Vegan Leather Sling Bag ($24, originally $50) has successfully stolen my heart for summer. It’s super soft, spacious, and its crescent shape adds dimension to all my outfits. Plus, it’s a steal compared to what I typically spend on handbags. Ahead, I share more details on what you need to know about it and why you should definitely add it to your summer handbag collection too.

    Main ImageMain Image

What I Love About the Gap Vegan Leather Sling Bag

What I love about the Gap Vegan Leather Sling Bag is that it’s versatile and spacious, without feeling like a burden to carry around. Unlike some of my more structured handbags, it’s perfect for travel, compacting to nearly nothing when it’s empty. But when it’s filled to the brim, it’s like a Mary Poppins moment. I can easily fit a novel, sunglasses case, hand sanitizer, lipstick, wallet, Beats Studio Pro Headphones, and keys inside, with plenty of space to spare. It reminds me of the Alo Yoga Om The Go Gym Sling Bag, another favorite of mine, though that one’s better suited for workouts than Gap’s version, which can easily be dressed up or down. Case in point: I recently paired it with Gap’s High Rise Utility Easy Jeans, a tank top, and crochet cardigan for an effortless errand-running look.

What’s Worth Noting About the Gap Vegan Leather Sling Bag

At the time of writing, this handbag hasn’t garnered many reviews. However, there was one particular comment that caught my attention. A customer mentioned the bag was larger than they expected prompting a return. Given this feedback, I recommend considering its dimensions (15x4x8 inches) before making your purchase. It’s perfect for day trips or errand-running when you need to stash away all your essentials, but in the spirit of transparency, it may be a bit too sizable for evenings out. For dinners or nights on the town, a smaller purse to hold just a phone, wallet, keys, and lipstick could be the way to go for some. But for everyday use, this tote more than qualifies as a practical carryall.

Almost all of my favorite outfits feature a pair of jeans. Because of this, it’s no surprise that I have quite the collection: high-rise, low-rise, blue, black — you name it. However, it wasn’t until recently that I discovered the joy of elastic-waist jeans, and now I can’t stop raving about them to anyone who’ll listen. Enter the Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans ($80), which combine the classic non-stretch denim feel with a sweatpants-like waistband. When I came across them for the first time, I assumed they were too good to be true (too soft!? too baggy!?) but I added them to my virtual shopping cart on a whim, and they exceeded my expectations in every way. Keep reading for my thorough review.

    Main Image

What I Love About the Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans

What I love about these Gap jeans is how they look and feel. They feature a loose wide leg and non-stretch fabric that feels expensive and high quality. The elastic waist stays comfortable all day, and the cargo pockets add a trendy touch that I’m confident I won’t regret a year from now (unlike some other trends I’ve adopted in the past). I love teaming them with a basic tank top and accessories. Here, I’m wearing the super thick Gap Compact Jersey Brami ($24, originally $35) that makes it possible to go braless, styled with the Gap Vegan Leather Platform Flip Flops ($45) and Gap Vegan Leather Sling Bag ($24, originally $50). (I’ve honestly worn this combination more times that I’d like to admit.)

I’m also a big fan of where these jeans land on my waist, which is a bit lower than what I’d deem “high-rise,” as they’re described.

What’s Worth Noting About the Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans

First, I think these jeans are more accurately described as mid-rise, not high-rise, because they sit between my hips and belly button. Other shoppers seem to agree, as several reviews on Gap’s website have mentioned this as well. However, I was delightfully surprised by the cut; it feels fresh and modern to embrace styles beyond the high-rise trend.

Another thing to note about the Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans is that they run big. I usually wear a medium, but I sized down to a small and still achieved that perfect baggy fit. So definitely consider going down a size. While there aren’t many complaints, some shoppers did find them too roomy. As one reviewer noted, “I really want to like these jeans however they run about 2 sizes bigger.”

Who Are the Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans Best For?

The Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans are perfect for those who prioritize both comfort and style when shopping for pants. They’re designed for those who love the feel of thick, non-stretch denim but occasionally prefer a gentler waistband.

Where Are the Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans Available?

The Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans are available exclusively at Gap. You can purchase them on the brand’s website and at select in-store locations.

Additional Details About the Gap High Rise Utility Easy Jeans

    • These jeans come in sizes XXS-XXL.
    • They also come in extended tall and petite sizes.
    • They’re machine-washable for easy care.

Future Collective with Jeneé Naylor Ruffle Ankle Length Dress ($40)

“The Red Floral Ruffle Ankle Length Dress is one of my favorites from this collection — it just screams vacation mode. This dress is made for dancing, especially with its side slit. The ruffles add dimension and movement, which is such a fun flair — I feel like I’m on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’

I am 5’1″, and this dress hits right below the ankle, so it’s better to wear heels with it if you want it off the ground. It also has adjustable straps, but you won’t be able to fully tighten the strap that has the ruffle detailing. This Free People Set Is My Go-To Summer Vacation Outfit

    [ad_1]

Every editorial product is independently selected by our editors. If you buy something through our links, we may earn commission.

One of my favorite things about going on vacation is planning my outfits (and yes, I do search for city-specific outfit inspiration on Pinterest). What I don’t love is then having to cut down my clothing options so they fit in a single carry-on bag. When you have limited space in your suitcase, there’s no room to bring pieces you aren’t sure about. Every ‘fit has to work — and that’s when a matching set can come in handy. Co-ords automatically look good together, and can help take the stress out of packing by guaranteeing there’s no space wasted on clothing items you’re uncertain about.

So when I was packing for an upcoming trip, I wanted to reach for the sets I already had in my closet. But most of the ones I owned were on the casual side — which is why Free People’s Donnie Short Set ($78) caught my eye when I was browsing the brand’s site. The two pieces — a flowy baby doll top with puff sleeves and matching bottoms — were stylish and on-trend, but also looked like something I could easily dress up or down depending on the occasion.

    Main Image

Having worn the set a few times before my trip, I’m sharing my honest thoughts on Free People’s Donnie Short Set — and why it may be worth adding to your summer outfit lineup, too.

What I Like About the Free People Donnie Short Set

When it comes to summer and travel-friendly clothes, I always look for cotton or linen fabrics that’ll keep me cool on hot days — and the Donnie Short Set immediately got some points when I saw it was made of cotton. It feels lightweight and breezy on, but isn’t thin or see-through like other cotton sets I’ve tried before. The two pieces also have some stretch in the bust and waistband of the shorts that make them comfortable for all-day wear, which is important if you’re doing a lot of walking, sitting, or indulging (I’d planned on doing all three).

Another thing I like about this Free People set is how effortlessly chic it is. The baby doll top’s almost empire waistline, puff sleeves, and bow-tie back instantly make me feel like I’m in my regency core era, à la “Bridgerton” — but the matching shorts bring the look back to the 21st century.

Finally, for my trip, I loved how easy it was to dress the cotton set up or down. I could easily style it with a pair of wedges and a statement bag or dress it down with a pair of sneakers. Another plus was that each item made for a great basic on its own. I could get away with wearing the summer whites together or separately with other pieces in my closet. The versatility of this set is ultimately what really won me over — and for that reason, I have no doubt that I’ll be wearing this on repeat both at home and on vacation.

What to Know Before Buying the Free People Donnie Short Set

I like how both pieces fit, but did decide to size down in this set because it’s flowy and has a good amount of stretch. I’m between sizes — medium and large — and found the top and bottom to be pretty roomy even after I went down to a medium. I will also note that it’s tricky to wear a bra with this shirt if you don’t want it to show through the cutout. I got around this with a sticky bra, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re thinking of buying the set.

Who the Free People Donnie Short Set Is Best For

This matching set is best for anyone who is looking for a comfortable and stylish outfit for summer. The two pieces are very easy to mix and match with other basics — so they’d also work great for anyone looking to expand their summer wardrobe.

Additional Details About the Free People Donnie Short Set

    • The Donnie Short Set is made of 100 percent cotton.
    • The set comes in 3 colors — Barbados Cherry, Optic White, and Brownie.
    • It is available in sizes XS-XL.

If my past self could see that I’ve added yet another denim jacket to my collection, she would be in disbelief. But hear me out: Despite already owning a sizable amount of traditional jean jackets, none of them were quite right for my style. They all boasted standard details, with buttons down the front and a mid-length cut. But I rarely wore them because they just didn’t pair well with the high-rise bottoms (Jeans! Skirts! Shorts!) that dominate my wardrobe. That all changed, though, when I stumbled upon this Gap Cropped Denim Jacket ($41, originally $70). Its shorter length is a perfect match for my high-rise pieces, and the zipper closure adds a modern twist that I love. And that’s just scratching the surface of why I’ve been practically living in it. Below, I break down everything you could possibly want to know about it in case you want to add it to your summer wardrobe.

    Main ImageMain Image

What I Love About the Gap Cropped Denim Jacket

Since buying this denim jacket, I’ve already worn it multiple times, and for the record, I bought it last week. It complements everything in my wardrobe, from my casual work-from-home wardrobe, which is filled with T-Shirts, to the many matching sets I choose for date nights and outings with friends. A perfect example: I’m wearing the Linen-Cotton Ultra-Cropped Cami ($50) and the Linen-Blend Maxi Skirt ($70) in these photos that I persuaded my husband to take of me after wine night.

Another thing I adore about this denim jacket is its comfortable, flattering fit. My previous jackets ranged from being too soft to even resemble denim to so rigid they weren’t comfortable to wear. This one is the perfect in-between. It’s slim-fitting without feeling tight or constricting, and the fabric — 95 percent cotton and five percent recycled cotton — is non-stretchy and flexible (while still managing to feel soft, not scratchy). I also love its versatility and the fact that it looks chic, whether slightly zippered or fully unzipped.

    POPSUGAR Photography | Marisa Petrarcca

What’s Worth Noting About the Gap Cropped Denim Jacket

I’m struggling to find any drawbacks of this denim jacket because it’s exactly what I hoped for and more. The fit is cropped, comfortable, and versatile. I ordered my usual size medium and it runs perfectly true to size. The crop length is just right, hitting directly at mid-hip, in line with my belly button. It’s not an extreme statement crop nor a typical length jacket, making it ideal for those looking for one that’s only subtly shorter than most. In my opinion, it’s best styled baring a hint of skin with a mid-rise skirt, like the one I’m wearing here, or teamed with high-rise bottoms to visually elongate your legs.

Veteran and NASCAR crew member shares what Coca-Cola 600 means

    [ad_1]

LINWOOD, N.C. — The Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway is NASCAR’s longest race and honors military members and families this holiday weekend.

    What You Need To Know

    • The Coca-Cola 600 honors military service members on Memorial Day weekend
    • Race cars will display a patriotic design and carry the name of a fallen military service member
    • Carl Garcia is a veteran and crew member for Legacy Motor Club driver 43, Erik Jones
    • Jones’ car at the Coca-Cola 600 will honor Navy Lt. Cmdr. Charles Thomas Butler, who died in 1967

Ricky “Carl” Garcia had always dreamed of wearing a green beret.

“I was raised with a lot of uncles that were in Vietnam in that area, and most of my dad’s side of family served,” Garcia said. “So I grew up around listening to stories about Green Berets and the Rangers and the Delta Force and all that stuff. So I wanted to wear a beret.”

After discovering he would need to jump out of planes to get the coveted beret, his fate was sealed. Garcia became a specialist in the 3rd Battalion in the 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment.

“I specialized in urban warfare, which would be like a hostile takeover of a city, going in and clearing out a city if there were a hostile in a city,” Garcia said.

He says a favorite memory in service was going to Panama for jungle training.

“Spending three months down there and getting to jump and see the culture and be actually in a jungle, which is an eye-opening experience that you would not know unless you’re actually there,” he said.

He traveled around the world, including spending time at Fort Bragg. Garcia’s dream was to serve for decades and move into specialized units, but a physical limitation ended his service.

“I am glad I did at least get the opportunity to serve,” Garcia said.

After his service, he began a career as a plumber and did construction jobs.

“I’ve always wondered how things work. I love taking things apart,” he said. “Obviously, if you’re going to take them apart, you need to learn how to put them back together.”

He came into his next line of work by chance.

“I met a guy at the grocery store one day that was going to cook for a race team, and I had just started watching NASCAR probably a couple of months earlier and got into it. He asked me if I wanted to go, and I said, ‘Sure. I’ve never been to a race,’ so I got to go with him and help cook for a race team,” Garcia said. “I did that for two weeks and was so interested that the owner of the race team offered me a job learning how to change tires.”

From changing tires to working in the shop, Garcia became a full-time mechanic, using his size and knowledge of electrical work to specialize in the interior of the car.

Carl Garcia working on a four-wheeler at his home.

“I have transitioned over to the last couple of years to the front-end mechanic as well, as personnel has changed, but I pretty much do anything on the race car that needs to be done that’s mechanic-related, whether it’s hanging the suspension, helping put motors in some fabrication stuff, welding that we don’t really do much of anymore. But anything that needs to be done,” Garcia said.

Although he didn’t come from the grassroots of racing fans like many other crew members, Garcia landed a spot with Legacy Motor Club, on driver 43 Erik Jones’ crew.

“For this week in Charlotte, we’ve spent the last few days getting the car together, safety-checking everything, making sure nothing’s going to fall off, making sure that the car was properly put together, the way the engineers wanted it put together,” he said.

Garcia has an important role in making sure his driver is safe and comfortable.

“I do think sometimes that the interior gets overlooked for the aspect and only gets reminded when something happens [that’s] bad,” he said. “The most important part of our entire job is to make sure that at the end of the day, everybody’s going home the same way they started the day out with, whether we win a race or we lose a race.”

“That’s more important than anything else that’s going on with our job,” Garcia said.

Garcia travels to different race tracks, and each experience is different. He says the most special part of every race is the national anthem.

“Sometimes when we’re not on the track, we’re in the garage working. If the other series is starting to race and then do the national anthem, the entire garage stops, as respect. It’s just something that everybody does because they want to, you know, and that and all the sports that I’ve ever watched. I think the appreciation for the military is probably the greatest in NASCAR out of any of them,” Garcia said.

The Coca-Cola 600 is a special weekend in racing, as it is geared toward honoring military service members.

The NASCAR Salutes Together with the Coca-Cola Program will recognize fallen military members in a special way this Memorial Day weekend.

“It’s really cool because usually all the branches of service are represented this weekend and then all the different cars with all the different people on there and their family gets to have some sort of enjoyment, you know, for the sacrifice that their loved one made,” Garcia said.

Besides special events at the track, for the 10th year of the program each car will be carrying a patriotic design as well as the name of a fallen military service member on the car for the 600 Miles of Remembrance.

“I think that’s probably the highest form of respect you can repay is to show your appreciation not only to him, but to his family for the sacrifices that he made for our country,” Garcia said.

Jones’ car will honor Navy Lt. Cmdr. Charles Thomas Butler, who was 38 when he died and had received numerous awards for his service on Reconnaissance Attack Squadrons Five and Three. Butler died in 1967 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Garcia is excited to see what surprises are in store for the weekend, and of course eager to pull out a win.

“I love the races, the start of the day, and then the night. Erik does extremely well with those…  I think we’ll be super fast this weekend and I think it’ll be a great day and it’ll be good for our organization to have all three cars on the track. I think they’ll do extremely well and put on a good show for everybody for Memorial Day and they can have some fun along with them — a remembrance of what it actually means,” Garcia said.

I’m usually either sporting a utilitarian belt bag or carrying a clutch or wristlet for a fancy event. However, I’ve recently come to terms with the fact that owning a mid-size option really is a matter of practicality — even for a phone, keys, and card case kind of person like myself. I’m a sucker for woven leather (I’ve been wearing this woven leather belt on repeat) and have been eyeing handbag versions that have varied in price and quality. I got my hands on Madewell’s Crossbody Bag in Handwoven Leather ($128), and it’s since become a daily outfit staple.

What I Like About the Madewell Crossbody Bag in Handwoven Leather

    Main ImageMain Image

The structure and size of this bag is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The rectangular silhouette means you can cram a surprising amount inside — in addition to my sunglasses, card case, lip gloss, keys, and wallet, I even managed to stow away a carton of gum and a charger. Unlike other bags I own that taper at the top, the boxier shape makes it easier to pull out what you need. It also has an internal pocket that’s convenient for separating items you don’t want to get lost in the shuffle. The adjustable strap means you can shorten or lengthen the scope of the bag so that it hangs exactly where you want it to, whether that’s tucked under your arm or resting at your hip. The leather feels sturdy without looking stiff, and I know it will only look better over time as the leather acquires its patina. The gold-tone hardware is minimal but beautiful, and I love that it has a simple zip top that glides opens and closes smoothly without getting caught.

What’s Worth Noting About the Madewell Crossbody Bag in Handwoven Leather

This bag is crafted from genuine leather that was sourced from a Leather Working Group-certified tannery. When opting for real versus faux or vegan leather, I like knowing the leather was vetted by an organization that promotes sustainable environmental practices in the industry.

Who Is the Madewell Crossbody Bag in Handwoven Leather Best For?

If you’re petite and struggle with finding a crossbody bag that doesn’t hang too low, the adjustable strap on this one is a game changer! It’s a fantastic everyday bag that you can dress down during the daytime or wear out at night, and it’s compact, but not so small that you can’t pack all of your essentials and then some.

  • My New Favorite Boots Are the Trendiest Mix of Moto and Country

My New Favorite Boots Are the Trendiest Mix of Moto and Country

    [ad_1]

Every editorial product is independently selected by our editors. If you buy something through our links, we may earn commission.

If scampering around Coachella’s polo grounds this year taught me anything, it’s that Western looks are in (thank you, Beyoncé), and the trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. While I wouldn’t necessarily find myself donning a cowboy hat on a random Tuesday night before heading out to dinner with my girlfriends, I can absolutely envision myself in a pair of Western-themed boots. Cowboy boots would be an easy choice, but before you hit “add to cart” on the pair you’ve been eyeing, allow me to introduce you to something I guarantee you’re going to like even better.

Free People teamed up with the shoe brand Jeffery Campbell and the leather-goods brand Understated Leather to create the shoe of my (and probably your) dreams. Enter: the Jeffrey Campbell x Free People x Understated Leather Motoboy Boot ($348). Yes, the name is a mouthful, but as soon as I saw a photo of them online, I knew I was going to be obsessed. Ever since I received them, they’ve had me in an absolute chokehold, and for good reason. The quality is perfection, they’re comfortable, and they can be styled with virtually anything in my closet.

    Main Image

They’re one part moto boot, one part cowboy boot, and all around great for dancing, walking, and just general frolicking, which I am going to find myself doing a lot of in the coming months.

Keep scrolling to read my full review of the boots I’ll be wearing nonstop this summer and beyond.

What I Like About the Jeffrey Campbell x Free People x Understated Leather Motoboy Boots

First and foremost, the number one thing I noticed about these boots when I took them out of their box was the quality. They’re made of thick, heavy leather, and I could feel how well-constructed they are as soon as I touched them. However, although they’re sturdy, they aren’t uncomfortable to walk in. I’ve found that most boots take a breaking-in period, but I didn’t have that problem with these. So far, I’ve worn them out to dinner, to a concert, and to an outdoor picnic, all with zero issues. I’ve done quite a bit of walking in them, and I haven’t had to deal with blisters or chafing (although I should note that I make sure to wear a pair of thick socks with them).

The design is also utter perfection. They’re essentially a motorcycle boot with Western-inspired stitching, which makes them an easy grab when I’m heading out of the house, no matter what I’m wearing. Plus, the harness on the shoes is removable, so if you want to opt for a more pared-down look, you can do that as well. The design is unique enough that I get tons of “where did you get those?” questions whenever I’m out and about, but it’s also simple enough to be a staple shoe in my closet.

I haven’t yet had a chance to wear them to a festival, but I already know they’re going to be my go-to shoe for any occasion where I need to walk a lot and still look fashionable at the same time.

What’s Worth Noting About the Jeffrey Campbell x Free People x Understated Leather Motoboy Boots

The boots come in two color options, black and brown, both of which are stunning. I had a hard time choosing between the two options, but I ended up going with black because the majority of my wardrobe is the same shade. If you’re having a hard time picking, I’d suggest thinking about what color will go best with the rest of the clothes in your closet.

I was a little stressed when it came to sizing, because I didn’t try on the shoes in person, but I went with my typical size 8. The boot fits well, even with a thick sock, but I probably could have sized up half a size for a little more room. Boots are often a hit or miss for me because of the size of my legs, but I still had extra room around my 14.5-inch calves once I slipped these on.

Who Are the Jeffrey Campbell x Free People x Understated Leather Motoboy Boots Best For?

The design of these boots is so versatile that I’d suggest them for essentially anyone. Whether you’re looking for comfortable boots you can wear all day long at a music festival, a standout pair to wear to a concert, or boots that match virtually any outfit, these would be my pick. They’re the perfect mix of a motorcycle boot and a cowboy boot, and look cute with everything from jeans to dresses to shorts.

Although I’ve styled them in numerous ways, I think my favorite way to wear them in the coming months is going to be with a pair of boxer shorts, a white tank, and an oversized leather jacket. Casual, but still chic.

Where Are the Jeffrey Campbell x Free People x Understated Leather Motoboy Boots Available?

These boots are available directly on the Free People website, the Jeffrey Campbell website, and the Understated Leather website.

    Additional Details

    • These leather pull-on boots are available in sizes US 6-11.
    • They’re also available in two colorways: black and silver as well as distressed brown.
    • They feature a square toe, pull straps, a removable harness, and a chunky block heel.
    • A size 7 features an 11.5-inch shaft and a 12-inch leg opening.
    • The heel of these boots measures 2.25 inches, and the platform measures 0.75 inches.

This Woven Leather Belt Is My Secret to Elevating Any Outfit

Woven belts have made a comeback, and I’ve been searching for one that’s thick enough to define my waist but thin enough to easily glide through belt loops. Belts have a way of adding instant polish, and if you’ve been entranced by the “not styled” and “styled” before-and-afters on social media, you’ll notice that belts are a go-to accessory for achieving a more intentional look. I’m pretty sure I’ve found the perfect one, too. Madewell’s Woven Leather Belt ($52) is the ideal width, comes in a few colors, and goes with pretty much everything.

What I Like About Madewell’s Woven Leather Belt

It’s hard to find an outfit that doesn’t look better with this braided leather belt. I use it to add a waist-defining cinch to my dresses or to make a basic pair of jeans look more elevated. I love that it has minimal hardware — instead, the leather-wrapped buckle blends in seamlessly, so you can wear it with different jewelry metals. I was excited to discover that it comes in a cream color in addition to dark brown and camel. The cream makes it even more versatile, since I can wear it with shoes and bags in any color. The woven material also makes it easy to adjust exactly to your liking, since you don’t have to worry about fitting the pin into a belt notch. Instead, you can just slide the clasp anywhere in the braided weave to get your ideal fit.

What’s Worth Noting About Madewell’s Woven Leather Belt

The belt comes in three different sizes: x-small/small, medium/large, and 1x/2x. Since most of my pants have a high waist and I use it to cinch the waist of dresses, I went with the x-small/small. I also like to avoid having too much excess strap hanging down after the buckle has been secured. I’m a size six, and this size ended up working perfectly. It’s also worth noting that this belt is crafted from genuine leather, so if you’re looking for a faux or vegan option, this may not be for you.

Who Is Madewell’s Woven Leather Belt Best For?

This belt is great for anyone looking for a versatile option that has more of a customized fit. It can be dressed up or down and worn with different metals or bag and shoe colors.

    Additional Details

    • It comes in three sizes: x-small/small, medium/large, and 1x/2x. I’m wearing the x-small/small.
    • It comes in three colors: Coffee Bean, Desert Camel, and Ecru.
    • It’s made from leather and features a wrapped buckle, so the metal isn’t visible.

  • I’ll Be Living in This Packable Straw Bucket Hat All Summer

I’ll Be Living in This Packable Straw Bucket Hat All Summer

    [ad_1]

Every editorial product is independently selected by our editors. If you buy something through our links, we may earn commission.

Come spring, I’m always excited to shop for new warm weather staples, whether it’s a pair of sunglasses or a dress. Sun coverage is a huge factor I consider when getting dressed, especially if I’m going to be outside a lot, and sun hats are an essential part of keeping my rosacea in check. I have hats in all sorts of shapes, from baseball caps to floppy, wide-brim hats that offer varying amounts of sun coverage. I’ve been searching for a straw bucket hat to add to the rotation but have struck out with styles that are either too droopy or unstructured. I finally tried Madewell’s Whipstitched Straw Bucket Hat ($52) and have a feeling I’ll be living in it this spring and summer.

What I Like About the Madewell Whipstitched Straw Bucket Hat

    Main Image

The wider, lantern-style brim of the hat actually does a decent job of shading my face. It has just enough structure to hold its shape so that I can actually see from underneath it. Whipstitching is everywhere for spring, and the coloring of this hat offers a hint of contrast without being too busy. The subtle pattern helps it mesh a little better with darker-toned clothes, like these mocha-colored linen pants and black vest, but it looks just as good with a white dress or even jeans and a T-shirt.

If you’re a straw hat lover who struggles with packing your hat, this one can be gently nestled into your bag without damaging its structure. One of the draws of this hat for me was that it’s labeled as “suitcase friendly” on Madewell’s site. I’m used to either wearing my hats or carrying them through airports, so having one that I can easily pack is a welcome change.

What’s Worth Noting About the Madewell Whipstitched Straw Bucket Hat

The hat is available in both Alabaster and True Black, both of which are equally cute. I was actually torn between which one to get because I love them both! Some shoppers noted that the hat doesn’t hold its shape as well as they’d hoped. The hat is intended to be “perfectly unstructured” per Madewell’s description, but I personally find that it has subtle dips and curves that hold their shape for the most part. I’m wearing the small/medium size and after trying on the medium/large, I noticed that the smaller version held its shape a little better.

Who Is the Madewell Whipstitched Straw Bucket Hat Best For?

This design is perfect for someone who is looking for a hat with minimal structure and moderate sun coverage that can be packed in a suitcase without compromising the integrity of the shape. If you want a hat style that feels really fresh for spring, you can’t go wrong with this straw bucket hat — especially with its on-trend whipstitched details.

Where Is the Madewell Whipstitched Straw Bucket Hat Available to Shop?

You can grab this hat at Amazon or Madewell.

    Additional Details

    • It comes in two sizes: Small/medium or medium/large. I’m wearing the small/medium.
    • It comes in two colors: Alabaster and True Black.
    • It’s made from straw.
    • The hat should be spot cleaned.

Shopping for a new pair of shoes takes a lot of careful thought and consideration. Sure, you can go out and just hit the “add to cart” button on the next cute pair you find in your size, but that’s how you can end up with blisters everywhere and eventually, a box that collects dust in the back of your closet.

When shopping for shoes, we look for options that hit that sweet spot between style and comfort. We like to think of ourselves as experts on this matter. We scour the internet for the latest and greatest new products, sift through thousands of reviews, and road-test items in real life to ensure they’re worth it. The latest brand we put to the test was Charlotte Stone.

The company was created in 2014 by an Ontario-born designer of the same name with the goal of making shoes fun and exciting, not daunting or uncomfortable. The website reads, “We believe that fashion, like life, is meant to be enjoyed. Not painful. Not prohibitively expensive. And not relegated to special days like birthdays and holidays.”

From a quick look at Charlotte Stone’s website, you’ll see that, visually, the brand is nailing it. The line-up includes everything from sandals to clogs, sneakers, flats, and heels, with most of the shoes coming in the brand’s signature bright, color-block hues. Whether you’re looking for a pair of shoes that’ll make you smile every time you look down at your feet or you have a vacation coming up where fun, festive footwear is in order, Charlotte Stone may have the option for you.

Trends come and go, but when you find the right statement accessory, it adds a little something extra to your look and makes you feel like yourself. I’m from Southern California, so sunglasses have always been a necessity, not just another addition to my outfit. It feels like every season, there’s a new statement sunglass trend. One minute, big bug eye sunglasses are all the rage, the next people want tiny lenses — the list goes on. I’ve definitely spent a very long time in the sunglass section of a department store, trying on pair after pair and feeling a bit like Goldilocks. One is too big, one is too small, and I could never find any one that was just right. When I was a teenager, I was gifted a pair of Ray-Ban Aviator Classic Polarized Sunglasses ($171, originally $221), and no other style has ever compared.

    Main Image

Sure, I’ve dabbled with a few sunglasses that are more of the moment, but at the end of the day, I consistently reach for my Aviators.

These are the sunglasses that look good on everyone for every occasion. They’re polarized, so they actually protect from the sun, and they manage to be both sporty and polished. I wear them to work out, to run errands, to go out to eat, you name it, and they always look good. They’re never out of place, and plus, I’ve never met someone who looks bad in them. I see my Ray-Bans like a great T-shirt or a classic pair of jeans; I’m always going to have them in my life. Sure, I’ve dabbled with a few sunglasses that are more of the moment, but at the end of the day, I consistently reach for my Aviators.

I have the green lenses with the gold hardware in the standard size, and the pair are elegant and timeless. Whenever I leave my house, I reach for four things: my phone, AirPods, lip balm, and my Aviators. If I have those, that’s all I need. Plus, I’ve had these glasses for years, and they haven’t cracked, broken, or fallen apart; they’re practically good as new. Trust me when I say, these are the glasses to invest in this summer. And best of all, they’re currently on sale at Amazon. For a limited time, the retailer is hosting its massive Big Spring Sale, which features deals that span a range of categories. You can score this pair (plus a number of others) on sale at the event.

I remember my high school’s UGG craze vividly. Back then, UGG boots were the ultimate fashion statement, often paired with Victoria’s Secret fold-over yoga pants and extra-long T-shirts. At the time, I stayed away from the look, either because I was attempting to appear unfazed by such a massive trend or because my parents balked at the high price tag of the hot-ticket items. But flash to the present, and UGG boots have caught my eye once again. Just recently, I scooped up the UGG Classic Mini II Boots ($105-$160, originally $160) in the light-brown color called Chestnut, and now I understand the hype. Ahead, I break down everything you need to know about them before deciding if you want to add them to your virtual shopping cart.

What I Like About the UGG Classic Mini II Boots

I was well aware of UGG’s reputation for comfort before trying the brand’s bestselling Classic Mini II Boots for myself, but experiencing them firsthand is something else entirely. As cliché as it sounds, wearing these boots genuinely feels like walking on clouds. They boast a thick sheepskin lining that strikes the perfect balance between warmth and comfort without making my feet sweaty. Although I wear them as everyday footwear, they outshine even my coziest slippers when it comes to comfort.

Another thing I like about them is their height. One challenge I’ve faced with tall winter boots is the awkward bulkiness that’s inevitably visible when styled with long pants. That’s not an issue with these boots, though, because they’re only five inches tall, landing comfortably at my ankles. I love wearing them with jeans, sweatpants, and even activewear leggings. My countless Pinterest scrolls have inspired me to style them with tall white socks peeking out of the top for a modern look, but they also work over flared leggings for a laid-back vibe.

    POPSUGAR Photography | Marisa Petrarca

What’s Worth Noting About the UGG Classic Mini II Boots

My sole critique of the UGG Classic Mini II Boots is that their shorter height narrows the space for slipping your foot inside, so they’re a little more difficult to put on. However, I’ve found that sitting down and guiding my foot into the boot while pulling upwards on the back heel tab makes them pretty easy to put on. While this hasn’t diminished how much I love them, it’s an important detail to highlight, especially for people facing mobility challenges. I’m not the only person who’s noted this, either. While the vast majority of reviews are overwhelmingly positive, many who gave them a lower rating highlighted this detail.

Who Are the UGG Classic Mini II Boots For?

The UGG Classic Mini II Boots are great for anyone who wants to fuse style and comfort. They pair seamlessly with jeans, sweatpants, and leggings and also work as house slippers for those who prefer boots with traction over traditional slide slippers.

The UGG Classic Mini II Boots are available on Amazon, as well as at Nordstrom and direct-to-consumer from the brand’s website.

  • Meet a man on a mission to rebuild Ocean Isle beaches

Meet a man on a mission to rebuild Ocean Isle beaches

    [ad_1]

OCEAN ISLE, N.C. —  Dunes represent a natural coastal protection measure. Henry Cooke is trying to revitalize them in Brunswick County, making the beach fronts a buildable space and safer from flooding issues.

    What You Need To Know

    • Sand dredging helps to replace sand that is carried away by wave action and currents, essentially “reclaiming” the beach and preserving its appearance and usability
    • Sand fencing and grass installation helps replenish the dunes on the beaches
    • To view the requirements for building an ocean front home, click here

“Without an adequate dune system for protection, the town will not issue a permit to build housing,” Cooke said.

Homes are not built on the dunes themselves, but rather near the dune lines. However, the ground isn’t stable enough for construction, according to Cooke, who is working to make a difference on that front.

Dunes are essentially small sand hills, built up to serve as a defensive line against floods from hurricanes and other storms. Many are protected by different laws and ordnances to keep people from damaging them.

Cooke started Dune Doctor LLC as a way to help the beaches he loves. He began this journey to help the dunes after his family lost their real estate business in Brunswick County.

“We were unable to make any kind of profit last year due to two storms back-to-back, which took our entire rental season for an entire year,” Cooke said.

Cooke is now using plants to stabilize the beaches and help keep sand from washing away. He said it’s important to use native plants, including American Beach Grass.

“[It’s] native to North Carolina, and they are pasture grown in a field the same as tobacco or another plant. Just the same. They’re hardy, which makes them hardy and makes them stronger. They’ve already endured the wind and the cold,” Cooke said.

Cooke isn’t the only one trying to revitalize the beaches, however, as many towns across North Carolina are now using dredging, a process that involves pumping sand from the sea and adding it back to the shores to build up the beach.

“Dredging is the other side of it. We work with the sand. They work with the sand, but they’re just in the water, and they move it around a little bit differently, depending on when they depend on water. It’s a much bigger job that they do, but it’s very important, especially in this coast of North Carolina,” Cooke said.

Cooke said his efforts to replant the beaches are just one small piece to revitalizing them. As more dredging projects happen, the extra sand they dig up helps these beaches grow and gives Cooke and his team more to work with.

“It has helped. And I would say with the most recent job of dredging here, we’ve if not doubled, maybe even more, this the width of the entire beach here,” Cooke said. “I was here last year measuring for these plants, and we didn’t have near as much.”

  • High School Scholar Elijah Wilson has a love of numbers and helping others

High School Scholar Elijah Wilson has a love of numbers and helping others

    [ad_1]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Elijah Wilson loves math.

In the last few years, his love for numbers has helped him find a new passion, tutoring at the Nest Academy, a private school for refugee, underprivileged and at-risk kids in East Charlotte.

Wilson says his family started volunteering at the Nest Academy soon after they opened their doors.

“I’ve always liked volunteering as I’ve grown up,” said Wilson. “Just helping others gives you that sense of purpose in life.”

    What You Need To Know

    •  Elijah Wilson loves math
    •  He also has found a passion for volunteering
    •  The Nest Academy asked Elijah to come help tutor math to kids in need
    • The opportunity has opened Elijah’s eyes to not only helping others, but learning about what others are going through

It’s a purpose that grew as he entered high school. The teachers at the Nest Academy say they saw first-hand his ability to work with students.

“He’s passionate about what he’s doing, he cares about the kids, asks them how they are, connects with them,” said Nest Academy founder M.C. Hildreth. “You know, those are the real hidden angels in our community, the ones that really aren’t boasting about what they’re doing, but are really solid in the fact that they know who they are.”

For Wilson, it’s not just about adding another activity to his college applications. It’s also about the satisfaction of getting to see those lightbulb moments when the lessons finally click.

“It’s very rewarding because, like I said, you can feel comfortable and feel more like you’re able to make more of an impact because you have your own skills to share,” said Wilson.

Wilson isn’t sure what school he wants to go to in the fall yet, but he hopes to study chemical engineering. And of course, continue to volunteer wherever he lands.

Wilson was presented with a $1,000 scholarship by North Carolina Rep. Tricia Cotham (District 112) on behalf of Spectrum Networks, as part of the High School Scholars program.

These $34 Fleece-Lined Leggings Transformed My Winter Wardrobe

I’ve never had the pleasure of living somewhere warm, so I’ve subsequently mastered the art of staying cozy. My go-to for braving Midwest winters is the Aritzia Super Puff, which I almost always pair with my Bombas wool calf socks and trusty Timberland boots. While I previously thought I had the whole equation figured out, I recently got wind of a genius innovation I wish I had known about sooner: fleece-lined leggings. Intrigued, I did some research and scooped up the bestselling Baleaf Women’s Fleece-Lined Leggings ($34, originally $49) from Amazon to test their effectiveness against the brutal Minnesota cold. Ahead, I break down everything you need to know about them to help you decide if they’re a missing piece in your winter wardrobe.

What I Love About the Baleaf Fleece-Lined Leggings

What I love about these fleece-lined leggings is that they’re much warmer than my usual go-tos from Old Navy or Lululemon, yet they’re equally stretchy and soft. The fleece interior doesn’t make me sweat when I wear them inside (and I run warm!), but keeps my legs shielded from the piercing cold when the temperature is only in the teens.

Given the fact that these leggings are fleece-lined, I don’t think I’ll be reaching for these for indoor workouts. However, I can confirm their thick fabric has you covered during exercises like squats, so you don’t have to worry about them being see-through at the gym. And even with their added layer, they’re plenty flexible for easy movement, with what I’d describe as medium compression.

What’s even more remarkable is their sleek design. Despite the addition of the soft fleece interior layer, they look just like “normal” leggings. Plus, they have two deep pockets, one on each side, that are large enough to fit my iPhone 14 Pro. There’s also a zippered pocket on the back waistband for a key, license, or credit card.

What’s Worth Noting About the Baleaf Fleece-Lined Leggings

My sole grievance with the Baleaf Fleece-Lined Leggings is the slight roominess in the groin area. Although this hasn’t kept me from wearing them, I’d prefer a more snug fit in this area to prevent any sagging and make them look a bit more flattering. It’s worth noting that I’m not alone in this observation; several other customers have also pointed out this detail in their reviews.

Another caveat to consider before you buy them is that not everyone thinks they’re well-suited for the cold. While they work for me and are certainly a much warmer option than the rest of my leggings, one person, who rated them three stars, left the following review: “Ordered these for an upcoming trip to Iceland, they are super comfy & fit well however they are not that warm. Wore them today in 30-degree weather & I was still cold.” You might have to test them yourself to determine if they’ll be warm enough for you.

Who Are the Baleaf Fleece-Lined Leggings Best For?

The Baleaf Fleece-Lined Leggings are best for people who love wearing leggings year-round, but are in need of a more heavy-duty pair for when temperatures plummet. They’re cozy, yet sleek, proving you don’t have to compromise on style for warmth. Not to mention, they prioritize practicality with two types of pockets to store all your small, on-person essentials.

Where Are the Baleaf Fleece-Lined Leggings Available?

The Baleaf Fleece-Lined Leggings are available via Amazon or direct-to-consumer from the brand’s website, baleaf.com.

  • I’ve Been Living in These $55 Levi’s Jeans From Amazon

I’ve Been Living in These $55 Levi’s Jeans From Amazon

    [ad_1]

My denim collection is, admittedly, vast. Through the years, I’ve got my hands on almost every style imaginable, from wide-leg jeans and retro-inspired flares to skinny jeans and trendy balloon-style denim. While I think every style has its place, my current go-to style is straight-leg jeans. I appreciate their versatility, timelessness, and, for one pair in particular, their unrivaled comfort. Enter the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans ($55, originally $80), which I recently added to my Amazon shopping cart in the bestselling style Summer Slide. Having heard my coworkers rave about them before, I felt it was due time to test them to find out what the hype was all about. Ahead, I explain what makes them so special.

What I Love About the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans

Not to sound like a broken record, but what I love most about the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans is their comfort. They’re stretchy, high-waisted, and slightly cropped, landing at the ankle. They’re just rigid enough to have structure but soft enough that I look forward to slipping into them at the start of the day. They’ve become the It girl of my denim collection because they go with everything and are reliably comfortable. For these reasons, I’ve reached for them repeatedly, and I have no signs of slowing any time soon.

I’m equally obsessed with the color I chose, which the brand describes as “light indigo.” They’re the quintessential light-blue jeans, and I love how they have the slightest bit of vintage texture that gives them a lived-in feel. I love wearing them with my high-top Converse sneakers, which complement the cropped denim and make for a super-comfortable outfit that’s a step up from my usual athleisure. I also love the way they hug my body without feeling constricting in the least.

What’s Worth Noting About the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans

Two years back, I reviewed Emma Chamberlain’s favorite pair of Levi’s — the Baggy Dad Jeans — and recalled that I ordered my usual size 28 and found they ran big. With that in mind, I opted for a size 27 this time. The fit was comfortable, not too big, though they were still a tad roomy around the waist. Based on this, I suggest sizing down by at least one full size for a better fit. Shoppers agree; multiple note that they recommend going down one or even two sizes. I suggest ordering two different sizes to compare, then keep the one that fits best and return the other. Alternatively, if you’re good with measurements, you can look to the handy size guide provided by the brand on its Amazon store page. I’ve included it below, too.
