  • Wendell man involved in police chase in stolen car turns himself in, faces multiple charges

Edgecombe County sheriff’s deputies said a man involved in a
police chase in a stolen vehicle on Tuesday has been arrested.

Deputies said 18-year-old Markeelan Mikel Cherry turned
himself in on Thursday after authorities said he fled from ECU Health Edgecombe
    instead of being treated.

His arrest comes after deputies said they were notified by Rocky Mount police of a possible stolen vehicle heading eastbound on US-64 in the county.

Cherry was wanted for possession of a stolen motor vehicle,
fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, failure to heed emergency lights
and siren, failure to stop at a steady red light and resisting a public
    officer.

Two other teens were taken into custody on Tuesday and are
each charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a handgun
by a minor and resisting a public officer.

Cherry is being held on an $8000 secured bond. He is
expected in court on Friday at 10 a.m.
