  • In Taylor Swift’s ‘End of an Era’ Trailer, Mama Swift Says What We’re All Thinking: “That’s Complicated”

“So it goes ‘New Year’s Day’ verse and chorus, ‘Manuscript’ bridge into ‘Long Live’ bridge, into the down verse of ‘Long Live,’ into ‘Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you,’ into ‘Long Live’ chorus but slowed down to half time, ‘New Year’s Day’ chords underneath it, into the last verse of ‘The Manuscript,’” Swift rattles off in the trailer’s final clip as her mother watches with a stunned expression that may be one of horror or one of admiration, but is probably both.

After a beat, Andrea says, “That’s complicated,” not even bothering to remove her balled-up fist from where it’s resting on her chin as she listens to her daughter’s grand plan for the supersized surprise song mash-up that she performed for the final night of the tour in Vancouver on December 8, 2024.

An incredibly successful artist, Swift occupies a singular position in our cultural consciousness, with her work and very life drawing just as much public criticism as they do fervent fan adoration. She’s incredibly private about her personal life—remember the rumor that she left her apartment building in a gigantic suitcase so as not to be photographed outside? I sure do!—while sharing other experiences and feelings in painstaking detail, whether through her song lyrics and letters or documentaries and interviews. Consider that she spent nearly two hours chatting with then boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother, Jason Kelce, on their New Heights podcast in August—sharing not only the title, cover art, and release date for her newest album, The Life of a Showgirl, but also Travis’s dream pet, a “really specific type of otter.” (In short: a wild one he rescues, thus earning its unending devotion.)

After the recording, later in the day, Travis proposed to her. A few short weeks later, she shared that too.

All of this is to say that just when it seems like Swift has shown all her cards and there’s nothing left to reveal, the singer produces yet more compelling work. The original Eras Tour concert film had its theatrical run extended, then extended again, and you’d think, perhaps, that the appetite for a three-plus-hour filmed show would be sated, but here comes The Eras Tour | The Final Show, another full-length filmed concert, this one including the Tortured Poets Department set that Swift added to the tour after that album’s release. The new concert film will be released on December 12 on Disney+, as will the first two of episodes of the six-installment docuseries, just in time for Swift’s 36th birthday on December 13.

Ed Sheeran on new album, “Play”

Four-time Grammy winner Ed Sheeran debuts “Play” and talks life changes

    07:43

Ed Sheeran announced Thursday that he’ll be stopping in Minneapolis next year as part of his North American tour.

He’ll play at U.S. Bank Stadium on Aug. 15, 2026. The “Loop Tour” will start off in New Zealand and Australia in early 2026 before its North American leg starts in June.

The show promises new sets and songs from Sheeran’s recently-released album “Play,” as well as some of his fan favorites.

In an interview with Gayle King, Sheeran said he wanted “Play” to be the “polar opposite” of his previous album “Subtract.” The album had chronicled heavy personal struggles that included his wife’s cancer diagnosis and his own mental health battles. “Play” marks a return to higher spirits as well as pure artistic expression.

The last time Sheeran came to Minneapolis — in August 2023 — the show drew 72,102 people, breaking the all-time concert attendance record in the stadium.

  • 34 wedding songs to add to your playlist, from Taylor Swift to Beyoncé

Planning a wedding is hard enough – so let us help you with your wedding songs playlist.

As family, friends, work colleagues and others from all corners, flavours and stages of your life flood onto one dancefloor at once wedding reception, it can feel overwhelming to come up with a refined idea of what songs absolutely do or don’t need to play.

You want a mix of romance, fun and nostalgia – and GLAMOUR has got you covered.

From soundtrack classics to disco legends here are our top 34 suggestions for the best wedding songs to add to your playlist.

    Lover by Taylor Swift

This Tay track is completely interwoven with wedding references. Though she wrote it during her previous relationship with Joe Alwyn, it still rings true as a gorgeous testament to the magic of getting married to this day, whoever it might have originally been written about. Plus, it’s a waltz. An extra romantic factor.

Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) by Beyoncé

Because every single lady at a wedding reception should have a song dedicated to them.

    At Last by Etta James

Arguably one of the most romantic, swoonworthy tunes of all time from the world’s most incredible voice. It tells a story of finally finding the one for you, so what better time to belt it out than on your wedding day?

(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes

The Dirty Dancing classic track is a must for wedding receptions, whether or not you choose to recreate that lift on the dancefloor.

Shut Up And Dance by Walk the Moon

A 2014 anthem that will get even the most shy wedding guest in the mood for dancing. The band’s lead singer, Nicholas Petricca, was inspired to write the song about the night he met his girlfriend on an LA dancer when she invited him to dance. Cute.

You Make My Dreams by Daryl Hall & John Oates

We love this 1980s classic, made famous amongst Millennial pop culture with its use in 500 Days Of Summer when protagonist Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) breaks out into a solo dance routine in the street after sleeping with Summer (Zooey Deschanel) for the first time.

    Dancing Queen by Abba

There’s no better song to scream along to on a wedding reception dancefloor with your best friends, distant relatives, whoever is around!

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison

Van Morrison’s iconic track centred around the magic of first love is an essential for a wedding reception playlist centred around the charm of romance.

    The Best by Tina Turner

Even if you haven’t seen Dan Levy’s iconic scene lip syncing along to this track in Schitt’s Creek, it still remains one of the best singalong songs about love and devotion of all time. Scream along to it with your friends, family and all other loved ones.

Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

An ultimate, showstopping performance from Lady Gaga in this one – is anyone still crying from A Star Is Born? Whether you want to re-enact the Ally and Jackson Maine dynamic with your other half or just let out all the emotions of the day by screeching “I’M OFF THE DEEP END” on the dancefloor, both are your prerogative.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston

We all want to dance with somebody who loves us – especially at a wedding. Grab anybody who looks game and bust a move to one of Whitney’s very very best.

    Wonderwall by Oasis

Love it or hate it, it’s not a UK wedding reception without a Britpop singalong. Perhaps one to schedule for the end of the night, when you all feel like joining hands and wailing at the ceiling before the lights inevitably come on: “I said maybeeeeeeeee”.

I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith

Epic epic epic. The unforgettable soundtrack to 1998’s Armageddon and a must-listen on so many wedding dancefloors. And let’s face it, your wedding night should have a more romantic ending than that movie!

Islands In The Stream by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers

One of our favourite duets of all time – Dolly Parton is an angel sent from Heaven and can do no wrong in our eyes, especially when it comes to cultivating the ultimate wedding song playlist. Islands In The Stream is a gem, whether you fancy a little slow dance or to shout the lyrics at each other from across the dancefloor.

You’re Still The One by Shania Twain

Shania’s first top 10 hit is an ultimate for any romantic occasion, in our opinion. While I Feel Like A Woman is your go-to for empowerment, You’re Still The One is the perfect encapsulation of what true love feels like.

    Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond

It’s not just for celebratory times in football stadiums, this one. Reportedly written for Neil Diamond’s second wife Marcia (Caroline, just sounded better, apparently), it’s all about the good times when you’re together. Perfection.

Crazy In Love by Beyoncé ft Jay-Z

What better way to see in your big day than a dancing to this infectious track from one of the most iconic couples of all time? Take a leaf out of Bonnie and Clyde’s book and wiggle that booty after a few wines, it’ll feel so good.

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

It’s no wedding songs playlist without Marvin Gaye, we can’t lie. The Motown legend certainly knows how to create the romance, and his duet with Tammi Terre is one for the ages.

Best Of My Love by The Emotions

A true 1970s tune that never gets old. It’s groovy, catchy and all about giving everything you can to the person you love. All the things you want when you’re dancing the night away post-ceremony.

    Marry You by Bruno Mars

Whether you’re a die-hard Bruno Mars fan or not, you can’t deny this one is one for the wedding songs playlist. It’s got a good beat, sweet lyrics and church bells play as part of the melody – it’s a no brainer.

(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher by Jackie Wilson

Hip shaking central, here. If you can’t drag the most reluctant of wedding guest dancers onto the dancefloor during the trumpet solo towards the end, we don’t know what to tell you.

Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder

While Stevie reportedly wrote this legendary track for his daughter Aisha Morris, it pretty much works for the bride or any other lady you love in your life, really.

Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley

Arguably a classic choice for a first dance. A schmoozy, bittersweet, tears-in-your-eyes kind of track. Slow dance, slow kiss, slow everything to this song – you’ll remember it forever.

This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole

A great dancealong – and not just because it was expertly placed in the A Cinderella Story soundtrack back in the Noughties. What better track to play on a day celebrating everlasting love, after all?

Let’s Stay Together by Al Green

  • What to Stream: Vanessa Kirby, Maroon 5, Madden NFL 26, Alicia Silverstone and ‘The Chicken Sisters’

Vanessa Kirby starring in a gritty film about the aspirations of home ownership, “Night Always Comes,” and Maroon 5 releasing their eighth studio album with songs featuring Lil Wayne and Blackpink’s LISA are some of the new television, films, music and games headed to a device near you.

Also among the streaming offerings worth your time, as selected by The Associated Press’ entertainment journalists: Alicia Silverstone leading a new TV crime drama called “Irish Blood.,” the multigenerational, wholesome drama “The Chicken Sisters” rolls out its second season on Hallmark and EA Sports jumps aboard the artificial intelligence bandwagon with Madden NFL 26.

New movies to stream from Aug. 11-17

    — Isaiah Saxon’s “The Legend of Ochi” (streaming Friday on HBO Max) is a handcrafted fantasy throwback seeking to conjure the kind of magic once found in movies like “The Never Ending Story.” The A24 film stars Helena Zengel as Yuri, a girl who runs away from the forest home she shared with her father (Willem Dafoe) and brother (Finn Wolfhard). She leaves with a baby Ochi, a creature hunted by her father. In her review, AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr wrote that “The Legend of Ochi” “has the feeling of a film you might have stumbled on and loved as a kid.”

    — Vanessa Kirby may be one of the standout performers of the summer blockbuster “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” but she also stars in a gritty new film about the aspirations of home ownership. In “Night Always Comes” (Thursday on Netflix), Kirby plays a woman going to extreme lengths to secure a home for her family. The movie, directed by Benjamin Caron and adapted from Willy Vlautin’s best-selling novel, takes place over a single night.

    AP Film Writer Jake Coyle

New music to stream from Aug. 11-17

    — Maroon 5 will release their eighth studio album, “Love is Like,” on Friday via Interscope Records. Expect smooth, funky pop music — like the sultry “All Night.” Singer Adam Levine and Co. continue their trend of unexpected and delightful collaborations as well, with songs featuring Lil Wayne, Sexyy Red and Blackpink’s LISA. You read that correctly.

    — Clifford Antone opened Antone’s, one of the most storied music venues in Austin, Texas, with an inaugural performance by the King of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier in 1975. In the decades since, Antone’s has become the stuff of mythology; a performance space that embraces its history and looks towards its future. A new box set out Friday from New West Records seeks to celebrate Antone’s legacy with “Antone’s: 50 Years of the Blues.”

    AP Music Writer Maria Sherman

New series to stream from Aug. 11-17

    — The multigenerational, wholesome drama “The Chicken Sisters” rolls out its second season on Hallmark. The series stars Schuyler Fisk, Lea Thompson, Wendie Malick and Genevieve Angelson as family members in a small town divided over their rival fried chicken businesses. It’s based on a novel of the same name. The series streams new episodes beginning Monday on Hallmark+.

    — Alicia Silverstone leads the new crime drama called “Irish Blood.” She plays Fiona, a woman who has been led to believe her father abandoned her as a child — and has carried around some heavy emotional baggage ever since. When she learns the truth is more complicated — not to mention dangerous — she heads to Ireland to investigate. The premiere of the six-part show drops Monday on Acorn TV.

    — A new one for the kiddos is the Disney Jr. series “Iron Man and his Awesome Friends,” coming to Disney+. The first 10 episodes drop Tuesday. The show follows besties and fellow geniuses, Tony Stark, Riri Williams and Amadeus Cho, who team up to solve problems.

Chris Hemsworth continues his quest to live a healthier, more present, and longer life in a second season of “Limitless,” now called “Limitless: Live Better Now.” The three-part docuseries sees Hemsworth learn more about brain power (with help from his friend and recording artist Ed Sheeran), risk and pain. The three episodes stream on Hulu and Disney+ beginning Friday.

    Alicia Rancilio

New video games to play from Aug. 11-17

    — EA Sports is jumping aboard the artificial intelligence bandwagon with Madden NFL 26, promising “a new AI-powered machine learning system trained by real play calls and game situations over nearly a decade.” The most intriguing additions are QB DNA and Coach DNA — so, for example, if you’re playing the Kansas City Chiefs, you’ll see the kind of moves you’d expect from Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. As always, the goal is to get ever closer to real-life football, with more dynamic weather effects, more details from pro stadiums and the return (at last!) of team mascots. The cover model this season is Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who’ll be ready to start leaping over defenders Thursday on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S, Switch 2 and PC.

  • Here Comes Chappell: The Meteoric Rise Of The Next Blockbuster Popstar

Here Comes Chappell: The Meteoric Rise Of The Next Blockbuster Popstar

Popstars have been the backbone of the music industry for decades upon decades. There were OG divas like Whitney Houston and Britney Spears. There were Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Rihanna. But it felt like we were in need of a fresh sound.

Most of our original pop girls are onto ventures like starting beauty lines, starring in films, writing books, and starting families. There wasn’t an immediate need to release albums or tour anymore. So the takeover of male artists on Billboard charts ensued.

Of course, the shine to Taylor Swift will blaze on. But the world grows tired of hearing the same few artists over and over. As always, there’s a bright new, shiny Next Big Thing on the horizon.

The summer of 2024 proves that you don’t necessarily need to be a “new” artist to rise to superstardom. Ever since Coachella, it has become clear that there are two Next Big Things in the realm of pop music:
    Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

Both Carpenter and Roan signed to labels when they were young. You may know Carpenter from opening for Swift on
The Eras Tour or her stint as a Disney star. And you may know Chappell as the opener for Olivia Rodrigo on The Guts Tour.

    About Chappell Roan

    @1824official @chappell roan is taking coachella by storm with these insane vocals 👏🏼👏🏼 #chappellroan #coachella #chappell #goodluckbabe #coachella2024 ♬ original sound – 1824

Chappell has been signed to Atlantic Records since she was 17 – back when she uploaded an original song called “Die Young” to YouTube. Under Atlantic, Chappell released an EP and eventually, in 2020, released “Pink Pony Club.” Not long after, she was dropped.

Everything shifted in September 2023. After being dropped from the label, she remained independent until releasing her debut album,
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, through Island Records.

Come 2024, Chappell toured the album in two parts, captivating fans’ hearts with her wit, her live vocal ability, and her homemade tour outfits that were equally as camp as her music.

In the meantime, she remained in control of her social media accounts. Regularly posting funny TikTok anecdotes, capturing more fans in her web along the way. Although Chappell’s album was receiving rave reviews, we were still a little ways away from the world finding her.

Once she joined friend Olivia Rodrigo on
The Guts Tour (previously appearing as The SOUR Tour opener), Roan’s streams saw a 32% increase. But this was only the beginning.

April 2024 marks the complete juggernaut of Chappell Roan’s career. She’s no longer a best-kept secret. Chappell Roan – who sings candidly about sexuality and celebrates being gay in her drag-inspired makeup, her wild red hair, and her Lady Gaga-esque dedication to dramatics – was about to become the next mega-popstar.

    The Rise Of Chappell Roan

In early April, Chappell released “Good Luck Babe” as the next single from
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. It felt like the start of the rest of her career. Her way of telling the world: here I am to give you the latest, refreshing pop music. And while I’m at it, shine light on the LGBTQ+ community.

The song received 7 million streams in the first week, “Good Luck Babe” became her fastest song to reach 100 million streams in no time. And then came the Coachella performance.

Chappell was set to perform in the Gobi tent. If you’re clued in to Coachella lore, the tents are generally smaller venues compared to the stages. It’s not typically reserved for bigger artists because they draw larger crowds.

However, during Chappell Roan’s Weekend I set, the Gobi tent overflowed with fans and new listeners alike. The world was watching on the Coachella livestream. And thanks to social media, thousands of TikToks and Instagram Reels were sourced and shared to
    millions of viewers.

    @chappellroan It’s me, Karma @coachella ♬ original sound – chappell roan

Chappell Roan caught the world’s attention by being true to herself. Her humility and humor make her relatable – she often displays emotions on stage no matter what they are. Her avant-garde makeup and outfits pay homage to fabulous drag queens and are reminiscent of Lady Gaga in 2010.

And of course, her music brings back a sense of fun to the world. Each song is catchy, daring, and reveals Roan’s true colors. After Coachella, her monthly listener count on Spotify saw a 500% increase to 7 million.

The Year Of Chappell Roan Continues

Since then, the world’s attention is on Chappell Roan. Her monthly listener count sits at over 24 million. She’s dined with new friend Elton John, who shared her album with Ed Sheeran, who also adores it.

@chappellroan @Elton John this was such an honor to talk to you. I look up to you so much and what you’ve done for our community. Thank you #rockethour podcast for having me ♡‧₊˚ full interview in my bios #queertok #artistsoftiktok #eltonjohn ♬ original sound – chappell roan

She took the stage at Gov Ball 2024 inside an apple, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, holding a massive joint…to a massive crowd – bigger than the headliners. She’s as in-demand as it gets right now…publicly declaring she turned down a visit to the White House until there’s liberty and justice for all.

In an audacious performance, Chappell Roan declares herself as “your favorite artist’s favorite artist.” And she’s not wrong anymore. It’s no longer simply an outrageous statement. Simply put. Chappell Roan is a sensation.

She receives acclaim from Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, SZA, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and so many more. And has been candid about struggling with her recent rapid rise to the top – breaking down onstage, sharing with viewers on TikTok that many pop girls are really just as nice as they seem.

@chappellroan♬ original sound – chappell roan

As she continues to grow and flourish in the public eye, Chappell Roan’s bearing up under the burden of pop princess. It’s something she has in common with another rising star, Sabrina Carpenter – who often goes viral for her off-the-cuff comments and sexual innuendos.

A new voice of our generation – Chappell Roan is a breath of fresh air. The people love honesty, they love personality, and they love fine music. Thank goodness Chappell Roan has all three.

  • Getting To Know Caroline Jones

    Getting To Know Caroline Jones

Caroline Jones has already had a career that any music-lover would be envious of- a mentee of music titans Zac Brown Band and the late, great Jimmy Buffett…she has toured with mega-names in the industry like The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, and Carrie Underwood, and now performs alongside Zac Brown Band as a member.

Her music spans genres, seamlessly blending one another together into a melting pot of downright good music. Her voice is sweet, hard-hitting, and fine-tuned, add that together with her songwriting ability that has only gotten better from working with the best in the business, and her prowess in playing multiple instruments. All together, Caroline Jones is the whole package- creating a pop-country fusion with notes of bluegrass at just the right time.

When I sat down to talk to Caroline who sat outside her home in Nashville, she was humble- constantly talking about seeking ways to better her music, showing gratitude to those who have helped her get here (especially manager, producer, business partner Ric Wake, and smiling when thinking of her newest album: Homesite. You can listen to the album here:

Nashville is a big part of Jones’ story, the place where she felt the most connected to her newfound country music roots. It helped her grow, and gave her the support to pursue her career. On paper, it seems like Caroline Jones has accomplished just about everything…but there’s so much more potential to unlock for Jones, and she will tell you that.

Homesite is a thrilling addition to Jones’ already impressive repertoire, exhibiting her true vocal abilities to their finest. Check out our interview with Caroline below!

PD: Let’s start at the very beginning…you were trained classically in opera, how did you want to switch to country?

CJ: I grew up listening to a variety of genres when I was a kid. My father loved classic rock and R&B, my mother loved the divas of the 90’s- Whitney, Mariah, Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion…and like you said, I was trained classically in opera and jazz so it wasn’t until I was around 17 and went to the Nashville for the first time and I had started writing songs and making demos of them. My manager at the time in my teen years said, “You know, your music has a bit of a country flare to it, you’d really love Nashville.”

At his urging, I went down here and went to a show at Bluebird Cafe and I was hooked…like I’d found the missing piece to my artistry. I felt like I found my people and my community. There’s such a writer and musician-centered community, which is very unique in a commercial genre of music in this day-and-age where there’s so many other factors and distractions. That’s still the core of Nashville. Delved all the way back starting with Hank Williams as the outset of what we think of as the outset of country music and went from there and found love.

PD: You were touring schools across New England before Jimmy Buffett recognized you. Can you talk about how that all started?

CJ: I’ve just had a DIY spirit since I was young, you know? This was the early 2010’s when Ed Sheeran and Mumford & Sons and acoustic music was making a comeback over the very produced pop commerciality of the early 2000s. I just wanted to be part of that wave of singer-songwriters, that’s what really inspired me…so I knew I wanted to build a fanbase organically and get good at playing shows live.

I started playing in the Northeast, where I grew up, and then a few years later I met my manager and business partner, Ric Wake, and we made our first record, Barefeet. I got a couple of amazing opportunities to open up, starting with Zac Brown and Jimmy Buffett. I really owe the career that I have to those two taking me under their wing and taking me on tour.

PD: Let’s talk about your new album, Homesite, which you had complete creative control over. How did that change making an album for you?

CJ: I’ve been really lucky, I’ve been an independent artist for my whole career and owned all my masters…I’ve really been in the creative driver’s seat and I owe that all to my manager and producer Ric Wake. He believed in me from the beginning and respected what I did, he honored my vision and brought it to life, and brought a team in who felt the same way. That is not most artist’s experience, so I am very grateful to him…and moreso as time goes on because you see how rare it is.

This album is the next step in my creative evolution and, if anything, I opened up more on this album because we brought in a new creative producer, Brandon Hood. I co-wrote about 3-4 songs on the record, which is pretty rare for me…in my previous record I solo wrote most of the album with the exception of one song.

For me, that’s creative maturity. Now that I have a few years of experience and more of a platform, I still have a long way to go but now I get to work with the musicians, singers, and songwriters I respect.

PD: Can you give me your favorite tracks from the album?

CJ: Yeah! At the moment, they’re probably the title track, “Homesite”,I love the song “Serendipity” because I love blending country and pop, and I love “Lawless.” I’m a production nerd so those are probably my favorites…and I also love “By Way Of Sorrow”, it’s the only song I didn’t write on the record and it’s a cover and has Vince Gill on it, one of my all-time heroes. I think that song should be a bluegrass classic.

PD: Final question- what is the best piece of advice you’ve learned since touring with ZBB, Jimmy Buffett, The Rolling Stones, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, The Eagles, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney…I could go on?

    CJ:

Oh my gosh, so hard to distill down to one because you learn so much by osmosis…by the repetition by being around folks who are the most excellent in the world at their craft.

If I could share one thing I’ve learned and seen over and over, it’s important to remember when you’re performing in stadiums or you see people’s shining social feeds, or you go and perform to tens of thousands of people and see them living your dream…they still have their own mountains to climb.

The more I’ve been around really successful people, the more I see they still have this passion and drive and still have a need to create, and push themselves and evolve. That’s not something that ever goes away just because you’re rich and famous. It’s not that you’re at the top of the mountain and now you’re just plateauing. You’re still the same hungry artist with the same hungry soul with the drive that got you there.

I want people to know that, because I feel like they don’t. You see rich and famous and successful musicians and you think they’re rockstars who have it all figured out…but the truth is we’re all artists, we’re all seeking, we’re all trying to creatively challenge ourselves. In that way, we’re all on an equal playing field.

  • Shape Of Brew: Ed Sheeran Gets Drunk While Celebrating Album Release In New York City

Shape Of Brew: Ed Sheeran Gets Drunk While Celebrating Album Release In New York City

Ed Sheeran told New Yorkers that drinks were on him as he made his way through the Big Apple during a lengthy bar crawl to celebrate the release of his new album “Autumn Variations,” which dropped Friday.

The “Eyes Closed” singer, in a video shared to social media on Friday, laid out his plans to go into random bars and get the next round for strangers over a period of six hours.

“Lets go,” Sheeran shouted before the video showed him chatting it up with bargoers, clinking drink glasses with others and snapping a photo with employees at a Stout NYC location.

“We’re in the first bar, I’m on the first drink. I have got everyone a drink in the bar, but we’re not there yet, we’re not there,” he said in the clip.

Sheeran then took to the subway before grabbing another drink, playing beer pong with fans and taking shots with people at another bar.

He later headed to Off the Wagon in New York City’s Greenwich Village neighborhood where he was met with encouraging chants before passing around more shots.

“Alright, we’re done for the night, we started out at the place, they weren’t feeling it. The next place? Weren’t feeling it either,” Sheeran said.

“We got on the subway and then here we are. I’m very drunk right now. Very drunk.”

The celebration video comes after the release of a new album from Sheeran, whose record is almost solely produced by the National’s Aaron Dessner.

The singer’s bar crawl adds to a list of surprise appearances he’s made in order to promote his music and concerts in recent months.

This includes him working a shift at the Lego Store in the Mall of America, serving up hot dogs at an iconic Chicago restaurant and dropping by a Boston youth recital to perform his music with the group of children.

Ed Sheeran Dazzles in Amazon Music Live Season Premiere

    By Jordan Edwards

Last night in Los Angeles, Ed Sheeran kicked off the new season of Amazon Music Live, and we were there to see it. The superstar played a mix of hits and new tracks from his upcoming album Autumn Variations. While a full band accompanied him throughout the night, much of the show featured the singer-songwriter alone on stage.

After being introduced by 2 Chainz, Sheeran started the set with fan favorite “Castle on the Hill,” followed by hits “Shivers” and “The A Team.” He then transitioned into material from Autumn Variations, due out Sept. 29. The new songs received a positive reaction from the crowd, particularly “American Town.”

The lighting and video displays were impressive (as they should have been). Above Sheeran, a giant softbox shaped like the Prime Video logo tilted and changed colors to match the mood of each song. The animations behind him added to the experience without being distracting.

Of course, the real highlight was Sheeran himself. Despite all the fancy effects, the performance felt organic and spontaneous. When musicians joined him, it was a full band with live percussion, not just a couple guitar players playing to a drum track. Purists just wanting to see and hear a straight Ed Sheeran show got their wish. It was refreshing to attend a TV concert that catered to the live audience in attendance.

Sheeran closed the 13-song set with two of his biggest hits. “Shape of You,” performed solo with simple lighting, was a great opportunity to see him work his famous looping station. “Bad Habits” served a giant sing-along and a perfect way to end the night.

  • Ed Sheeran crashes couple’s Las Vegas wedding, surprising them with new song

Ed Sheeran crashes couple’s Las Vegas wedding, surprising them with new song

A couple getting hitched at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas was shocked by a famous wedding crasher this week: Ed Sheeran. The singer burst into the chapel playing an unreleased song “Magical,” much to the surprise of the bride, groom and their guests, Entertainment Tonight reports.

Sheeran posted video of the serenade on Instagram. “Crashed a wedding, this is Magical,” he wrote.

Sheeran, 32, was in Vegas for a concert that was canceled on Saturday due to what he said was a “safety issue.” According to a news report that Sheeran shared in an Instagram post, the show at Allegiant Stadium was canceled late Saturday due to a flooring issue that caused two towers that were part of the stage to shift.

“It was a safety issue, and we really tried to do the best we could to make the show happen but I’m not gonna risk the safety of my fans for anything,” he wrote in the caption. “I really am gutted, this was very much out of my control but I do take full responsibility for everyone that was put out from the cancellation.”

Sheeran said the crew thought the show would still happen until the very last moment before canceling. He said a make-up show will be held on Oct. 28, but refunds are available for those who don’t want to attend.

It seems Sheeran tried to make the most out of his Vegas trip, despite the canceled show. Not only did he crash the wedding, but he signed as the witness on the couple’s marriage license.

The bride and groom, Jordan Russel and Carter Linden of Austin, Texas, also posted the video of Sheeran’s surprise on Instagram, writing: “We’re still processing what an unforgettable moment this was! Thank you [Ed Sheeran] for truly making our special day magical.” CBS News has reached out to the couple and is awaiting response.

This is not the first time Sheeran has surprised unsuspecting fans. Earlier this year, he took the stage at a karaoke bar in Nashville, singing a Backstreet Boys song with the excited crowd, according to Entertainment Tonight.

He’s also known for playing outdoor popup shows in cities like New York and Dallas. But he doesn’t just sing. Sheeran has also surprised fans by dishing up pizza at a restaurant in Pittsburgh and serving cheesesteaks in Philadelphia.

  • How much Taylor Swift mania can we take? Just wait — there’s still a long way to go – National | Globalnews.ca

How much Taylor Swift mania can we take? Just wait — there’s still a long way to go – National | Globalnews.ca

Every generation or so, a major artist enters what’s called their imperial phase, a period of their career where they can’t seem to do anything wrong. Everything aligns perfectly and it seems that the universe now revolves around that act. Right now that artist is Taylor Swift.

This kind of mania is not entirely new. We saw similar imperial phases with The Rolling Stones (1972, 1980, 1989), Led Zeppelin (1971-75), Elton John (1971-1975), Michael Jackson (1983-1992), Madonna (1986-1992), U2 (1987-1992 and also perhaps during the 360 Tour of 2009-11), and both Backstreet Boys and NSYNC (1996-2001). Billy Joel remarked, “The only thing I can compare it to is the phenomenon of Beatlemania [in the 60s].”

The reasons for Swift’s turn at the very top of pop culture are complex. She’s a top-flight songwriter and performer. As the defacto CEO of her empire, she’s been brilliant, carefully crafting and protecting her image, overseeing all the marketing, planning the Eras Tour, and making some savvy business decisions when it comes to issuing new music, charitable initiatives, and dropping just the right amount of benevolence at exactly the right time. Taylor has set all kinds of chart records with her albums (more Number One albums in the Billboard Top 200 than any other woman, someone who’s had four albums in the Top 10 at the same time, etc.) It’s estimated that the nightly box office on this tour is as much as US$14 million.

    Story continues below advertisement

According to the New York Times, the overall economic benefits to North America will be about US$4.6 billion: tickets, merch, airfare, hotel, parking, restaurants, drinks, even nail salons for fans who want to look sharp for the show. That’s about the same economic impact as the Olympic Games had on Beijing in 2008.

It all makes for great media coverage that encompasses everything from woman power to the spin-off economic benefits being generated by this tour (hotels for Toronto are pretty much already sold out for her visit in November 2024). Here’s a quote from Dan Eastwood of online research company QuestionPro: “If Taylor Swift were an economy, she’d be bigger than 50 countries; if she was a corporation, her Net Promoter Score would make her the fourth most admired brand, and her loyalty numbers mimic those of subjects to a royal crown.”

So yeah, she’s big. And popular. And powerful. But let’s break this down a bit.

The current Tay-Tay mania can be partly attributed to the lack of a centre in popular culture. The internet has fractured everything, meaning that there’s very little we all know about and agree upon — at least compared to the old days. In the absence of any true competition, an event like Taylor Swift creates a gravity well on the order of a supermassive black hole, sucking everything in and demanding more and more attention. It’s like the Barbie movie: a global cultural juggernaut but less pink.

    Story continues below advertisement

And because everyone seems to be talking about Taylor, fear of missing out becomes a real thing. Even casual fans- — and even non-fans — are caught up in the confusing excitement. “What’s going on here? What am I missing? Everyone else is getting involved, so shouldn’t I?” No one wants to be left out, hence the ever-growing interest and coverage. It’s like a hurricane caught over some freakishly hot Atlantic water. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger, obliterating everything in its path.

Which brings me to this: Have you noticed how there’s been very little negative coverage of the Eras Tour? Yes, there have been stories about convoluted Ticketmaster ticket-purchasing procedures, servers melting down, fans who were sold “obstructed view/listen only” seats, hotels and parking lots charging usurious prices (it cost US$120 to park at a surface lot for the shows in Seattle), and minor logistical hiccups, but have you seen anyone anywhere in the media criticize Tay-Tay? Why not?

Easy. No one wants to incur the wrath of Swifties, Taylor’s formidable and intensely loyal and often combative fanbase. Only the BTS Army and Beyoncé’s BeyHive come close in strength and numbers. And woe be to those who mess with Taylor because that brings millions of Swifties to the battlefield. Even the New York Times took note of this.

If you’re publicly identified as an Enemy of Taylor — or even someone who just doesn’t pay Swift the proper respect — prepare for a social media attack of nuclear proportions up to and including doxing and death threats. One writer critical of the Eras Tour was sent anti-gay slurs and a campaign was launched to have that person fired from their job as a reporter. And has Taylor said anything about this stan behaviour? No. Yet there’s been little note made of that in the media. With no one saying anything bad — even if it may be deserved — it’s nothing but sunshine and chocolates and dancing unicorns.

    Story continues below advertisement

Swift has also been able to both dodge criticism and go on the offensive when she’s felt wronged — very successfully, too. That includes everything from the issues surrounding the master tapes of her original albums to writing songs about bad real-life boyfriends. There are at least 31 of those. Nothing is ever her fault it seems. Her fans will back her up on that, too.

Look, the Eras Tour is definitely special, the likes of which we won’t see for a long, long time. It delivers great value for fans: three hours, over 40 songs, and a ton of high-end production.

By the time the 146 shows wrap up late next year — five continents, all stadium gigs, by the way; no mere arenas for Taylor — the total gross is projected to be beyond US$1.4 billion, eclipsing Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. That brought in US$939 million during its 328-show run that extended from the fall of 2018 to this past summer. The average box office gross was a mere US$2.85 million. When the lights finally go out after the sixth Rogers Centre show in Toronto in November 2024, the Eras Tour will likely have been seen by more than nine million people. That’ll handily beat Ed Sheeran’s Divide Tour, which played in front of 8.7 million people. But it took two years and 255 shows to accomplish that.

Barring any illness, scandal, extinction-level asteroid strike, or mass coronal ejection that will wipe out the world’s electrical infrastructure, Taylor mania is going to be with us for at least another year. And if you’re in Toronto and you’re not going to any of the shows, I’d make plans to get out between Nov. 14 and Nov. 23, 2024. It’s going to be impossible.

    Story continues below advertisement

Meanwhile, everyone will continue to want a piece of Tay-Tay. To commemorate the end of the U.S. leg of the tour, Starbucks created a 122-track playlist called “Starbucks Lovers” (note the reference to some misheard lyrics in the song Blank Space) that’s running in stores across the U.S.

If that’s not enough, there are Swift-inspired coffee drinks that will probably push back the return of pumpkin spice latte by a few weeks. That won’t sit well with some people. They’d just better not complain because, you know, Swifties.

John Mayer to open for Ed Sheeran days after Taylor Swift defends him; Here’s how swifties reacted

Ed Sheeran’s Mathematics Tour is about to get a star-studded twist! The highly anticipated stadium shows in Massachusetts this weekend will feature an exciting replacement for the former opening act Khalid, who met with a car accident last week. Fans can look forward to witness the soulful John Mayer and the talented country group Little Big Town take the stage at Gillette Stadium, as confirmed by the venue itself.

Taylor Swift’s connection to Ed Sheeran’s concert

The announcement of John Mayer joining Ed Sheeran as an opening act on his stadium shows has sparked a flurry of excitement and speculation, particularly among fans of Sheeran’s close friend, Taylor Swift. The dynamic between Sheeran and Swift is quite well known, and Swifties wasted no time sharing their thoughts on Mayer’s inclusion.

Adding fuel to the fire is the impending release of Swift’s highly anticipated album Speak Now on July 7. Fans couldn’t help but draw connections to Mayer with the track Dear John, widely believed to be a pointed response to their past romantic entanglement. The timing seems almost too perfect, igniting a mix of curiosity and anticipation among Swift’s devoted fanbase.

Taking to social media, one Twitter user mused about the potential reception Mayer might receive from the audience, pondering whether he would face an onslaught of boos or a more gracious welcome. Meanwhile, another fan humorously pointed out the irony of Mayer serving as an opener while Swift continues to sell out stadiums with her own headline shows.

  • Concerts To See This Summer 2023

Concerts To See This Summer 2023

We are quickly approaching the summer, which means people are already filling their calendars with weekend trips and outdoor plans. Outdoor concert venues are re-opening for the season, and tickets are quickly selling out. Plus, the rolling lineup of music festivals keeps growing — my budget can barely keep up.

I’m always down for live music. I will go anywhere where there’s a live band, even if they’re just performing covers at a bar. Sometimes, my passion for live music leads to the greatest nights of my life — like my residency at Harry’s House at Madison Square Garden. Other times, it’s a cautionary tale — like my Coachella experience… enough said.

So you can imagine my unbridled excitement when my favorite artists embark on world tours in the summer. Needless to say, I’m ready, willing, and able to go broke.

I am always stuck in some Ticketmaster queue lamenting, every decision I’ve made up until that point. If I am allowed to buy tickets after sometimes an hour of waiting in that treacherous line, I’m almost obliged to buy one.

Maybe it’s the constant stream of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour content I’m getting on my social media. Or the looming Beyonce Renaissance tour that will soon compete with Taylor’s. Or all of this chatter about Morgan Wallen canceling his shows for vocal rest.

No matter what, I’m itching to hear some live music. If you can tell, I’m planning on attending as many concerts as humanly possible (wallet permitting). And if you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking about the same.

It may be difficult to keep track of all of these tours happening at once — especially during the summer when you want to shut off your brain instead of planning anything. So, here is a list of which tours to look out for this summer. All you have to do is brave the Ticketmaster queue. Good luck to us all.

The Jonas Brothers – The Tour

The Jo-Bros are going on tour Eras- style…playing their new music from their new album, The Album, along with classics from each of their beloved past albums. Despite the fact that we have seen Kevin, Joe, and Nick grow up in front of our very eyes…we’re eager to be plunged back into our Disney Channel-era selves the moment Burnin’ Up comes on.

    Blink-182 –  2023 Tour

Following their first on-stage reunion at 2023 Coachella, Blink-182 is coming back to a stage near you. Nothing feels better than bringing back that early 2000s angst with some vintage Blink, and they’ve proven they’re still the same rock band we know and love. Travis Barker is still playing the drums sans shirt — just this time, he’s married to Kourtney Kardashian. How time flies.

    Ed Sheeran – Mathematics Tour

Fans went crazy when Ed Sheeran released Subtract, the final mathematics-themed album of his discography. With a brand new documentary, Sheeran is red hot coming into the 2023 summer.

Top that off with his Mathematics Tour, which has opening acts like the lovely Khalid, and viral videos of him jumping on top of cars to serenade surprised New Yorkers. He’s known for putting on one of the best concerts you can attend, and it’s worth the money every time.

Zac Brown Band – From The Fire Tour

So Morgan Wallen canceled a few shows and everyone’s wondering what to do now. One of the most classic, fun country concerts you can go to is ZBB. They’ve created hit after country hit, toured stadiums across the country, and are ready to go back at it.

    Beyonce – Renaissance World Tour

If you could be so lucky to get tickets to the Renaissance Tour, then you need to go see one of the best in the business do her thing. She’s got powerhouse vocals and choreography, lights, and backup dancers — it’s an entire production. Seeing Queen Bey reminds you how live performances can completely change the way a song sounds to you.

    Drake & 21 Savage  – It’s All A Blur Tour

One of the hottest tickets in town this summer is Drake and 21 Savage’s tour. Tickets sold out in mere minutes to hear the duo perform their album, Her Loss. It’s guaranteed to be rap’s biggest concert of the year, with two of the biggest artists in their genre taking the stage together.

  • Ed Sheeran Celebrates Court Win In NYC By Stomping on a Volvo

Ed Sheeran Celebrates Court Win In NYC By Stomping on a Volvo

It seems that Ed Sheeran is so happy that his long legal battle is over, he could sing. So he did.

On Thursday, Sheeran won the copyright infringement suit first brought against him in 2018 alleging that Sheeran’s hit song “Thinking Out Loud” had ripped off Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” The suit was brought by the family of Gaye’s late co-writer, Ed Townsend, and Townsend’s family asked for $100 million in damages.

After the verdict was announced in Sheeran’s favor, the singer told reporters outside the courthouse, “I’m obviously very happy with the outcome of the case. And it looks like I’m not having to retire from my day job after all.”

“These chords are common building blocks which were used to create music long before ‘Let’s Get It On’ was written and will be used to make music long after we all are gone,” Sheeran said. “They are in a songwriter’s ‘alphabet,’ our toolkit, and should be there for all of us to use. No one owns them or the way they are played, in the same way that nobody owns the color blue.”

On Friday evening, Sheeran swapped the suit and tie he’d worn in court for more casual attire and celebrated both the win and the release of his latest album, Subtract, with a mini concert on the street in New York City. Subtract was officially released Friday, and Sheeran has a pop-up shop, “The Subtract Experience,” currently open in SoHo. To the delight of crowds of gathered fans, Sheeran hopped on top of a parked Volvo with his acoustic guitar and performed about a half-dozen songs, including the contentious “Thinking Out Loud.”

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Despite asking if he could “play one song before I go,” Sheeran delivered several songs after starting off with “Boat,” off of Subtract

In the video Sheeran posted of the first song on his Instagram, fans praised him in the comments section, but worried for the car he used as a makeshift stage.

“Ed this song is so good but that volvos roof is finished,” one commenter wrote.

“As a Volvo owner, this gave me anxiety,” another said.

“Crushin’ it. And the Volvo,” said yet another.

Sheeran is no stranger to paperwork nightmares, coming under fire from neighbors in the UK in 2022 for seeking to install a private crypt below his home there. Recently, he’s been surprising people all over the five boroughs, hanging out in Irish pubs and singing duets with subway buskers. He’s just here to spread joy and a Sheeran quality.

  • Court Finds Ed Sheeran Did Not Violate Copyright With Song ‘I Wish I Were An Oscar Mayer Wiener’

Court Finds Ed Sheeran Did Not Violate Copyright With Song ‘I Wish I Were An Oscar Mayer Wiener’

NEW YORK—Concluding a protracted legal battle in which the popular singer-songwriter stood accused of plagiarism, a federal jury found Thursday that singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran did not infringe upon anyone’s intellectual property with his song “I Wish I Were An Oscar Mayer Wiener.” “What you need to understand is that pop songs are harmonically and lyrically very simple, so yes, my song may use a similar chord progression and the exact same lyrics as a famous jingle used to sell hot dogs, but that doesn’t make it a copyright violation,” said Sheeran, who testified in his own defense, telling the Manhattan courtroom that ruling in favor of the plaintiff, processed meat purveyor Oscar Mayer, would have a chilling effect on artistic expressions of wanting to be an Oscar Mayer wiener. “It’s all part of the folk music process. Long before anyone thought of advertising hot dogs on television, Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie sang of how an Oscar Mayer wiener is what they’d truly like to be, and you can trace this through to the Beatles and Bob Marley, who each in their own way sang about how, if they were Oscar Mayer wieners, everyone would be in love with them. The theme of envying an Oscar Meyer wiener continues today, especially in hip-hop, and will be here long after we’re gone.” Shortly after the verdict was read, Sheeran reportedly attended a ceremony at which multiplatinum certification was awarded to his album My Bologna Has A First Name.

Ed Sheeran not guilty of copying Marvin Gaye song, jury finds – National | Globalnews.ca

A jury has found Ed Sheeran not liable in a case of copyright infringement, determining that he did not plagiarize elements of Marvin Gaye’s soul classic Let’s Get It On.

The unanimous verdict was reached Thursday, on the second day of deliberations.

As the New York jury answered the single question of whether Sheeran proved he didn’t infringe upon the copyright in the affirmative, the crooner briefly put his hands over his face in relief before standing and hugging his lawyer.

    Story continues below advertisement

The family of Ed Townsend, who co-wrote Let’s Get It On with Gaye, accused Sheeran of copying the 1973 hit in his smash single Thinking Out Loud. The lawsuit claimed Sheeran, 32, and his co-writer, Amy Wadge, knowingly plagiarized the song’s iconic four-chord sequence.

Sheeran staunchly denied copying the song, and at one point in the trial played an acoustic guitar for the jurors while explaining that Wadge developed the song’s opening chord progression.

Earlier in the trial, which began April 25, lawyers for the Townsend heirs showed the jury what they said was “a smoking gun” that proved Sheeran copied the song — a concert video of a live mashup performance in which he sang both songs. Townsend lawyer Ben Crump said the performance was “a confession” of plagiarism.

During his initial testimony last week, Sheeran denied the video is proof and said it is “quite simple to weave in and out of songs” if they are in the same key.

“I’d be an idiot to stand on a stage in front of 20,000 people and do that,” Sheeran said of blatant plagiarism. “Most pop songs can fit over most pop songs.”

Sheeran’s song, which came out in 2014, was a hit, winning a Grammy for song of the year. His lawyers argued that the songs shared versions of a similar and unprotectable chord progression freely available to all songwriters.

    Story continues below advertisement

While on the stand, Sheeran, was asked by his lawyer, Ilene Farkas, what he would do if he were to lose the lawsuit.

Sheeran’s answer was simple: “If that happens, I’m done, I’m stopping.”

The singer called the lawsuit “really insulting.”

“I work really hard to be where I’m at,” he told the jury.

This trial comes one year after Sheeran won a similar copyright lawsuit over his biggest hit, Shape of You. At the time, Sheeran called the lawsuit “really damaging to the songwriting industry.”

Earlier in 2017, Sheeran settled out of court over claims that his song Photograph shared striking similarities to the Matt Cardle song Amazing. He has since said he regrets the settlement because it opened the “floodgates” for more bogus copyright claims.
