  • Construction on I-90 in western WA expected to impact traffic

    SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. – Several construction projects on I-90 are expected to cause delays for western Washington drivers over the next two weeks.

    Multiple work zones will be set up across the freeway, shutting down lanes from Seattle to Vantage starting this week.

    Here’s where the lane reductions are happening along I-90:

    I-90 near Snoqualmie Summit

    Just west of the summit at Snoqualmie Pass, there will be a double-lane closure on westbound I-90 for bridge deck repairs. Construction is expected through Friday, Sep. 19.

    Also, just east of the summit, both directions of I-90 will have single-lane closures for a fuel spill clean-up. This affects traffic through Thursday, Sep. 18, and continues into next week.

    I-90 near Easton

    Eastbound and westbound I-90 will experience single-lane closures near Easton for guardrail and barrier repairs. Work is expected through Thursday and continues next week.

    For the next two weeks, the eastbound I-90 shoulder will close west of Easton for drilling work, associated with the I-90 Snoqualmie Pass East project.

    Additionally, drivers will see daytime single-lane closures on eastbound I-90 for bridge patching work through Thursday.

    I-90 across Vantage Bridge

    I-90 across the Vantage Bridge is down to one lane in each direction, expected to create weekend delays.

    The lane reductions will last through the winter shutdown in the fall. There is also a 9-foot width restriction on the bridge.

    I-90 between Mercer Island and Seattle

    Westbound I-90 will close from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, Sep. 20 between Mercer Island and Seattle for tunnel maintenance.

    The 76th Avenue, West Mercer Way and Island Crest HOV on-ramps will close at 9 p.m., with the full closure in place by 10 p.m.

    EASTON, Md. – Another Delmarva town is looking to put a pause on pot.

    The Town of Easton might be joining the club. St. Michaels, Oxford, and Talbot County itself have all passed 9-month moratoriums on pot shops. And, for the same reason, Easton’s interim council president Don Abbatiello says the town needs more time for zoning purposes.

    “There are obviously rules coming down from the state as far as what zoning is allowed and then we can kind of tweak that to make it work for us,” says Abbatiello. He goes on to say that it will also give them time to make sure they do it correctly the first time around. “…that those dispensaries are run properly and that the town is able to provide a service to the residents of the community.”

    But some people in town like Annie Velenovsky feel the town has had enough time to think about where a marijuana shop would best fit.

    “We did have a significant amount of time to already go over the legalization of cannabis and we’ve also had a couple shops in neighboring counties for medical marijuana that are pretty reputable. I do feel like, in my opinion, not the best decision,” says Velenovsky

    While JoAnn Brown of Justamere Trading Post says she doesn’t have a problem with weed shops moving-in downtown, but no too many.

    Historic Victorian Reclaims The Throne In Downtown Easton, Maryland

    The Chaffinch House occupies a grand spot in the history of Easton, Maryland. The restored Queen Anne Victorian is one of some half-dozen to still exist in the downtown historic core and a crowning example of the fanciful style that was popular in the late 1800s.

    Listed as a contributing structure to the Easton Historic District by Maryland’s National Register Properties, the elaborate house was built by William P. Chaffinch sometime after 1894 and is a showplace of architectural creativity.

    When the current owners bought the place, says Martha Suss of Long & Foster Real Estate, “the house was in a very rough shape.” Over the years, it had been converted to apartments, a bed-and-breakfast and back to a single-family residence before eventually going into foreclosure.

    There were five layers of roofing, no functioning air-conditioning, a gutted kitchen and gaping holes in the plaster walls, she says. “Squirrels were running through the house.”

    Working with approval from the Easton Historic District Commission and in partnership with Maryland Historical Trust, the couple restored the house to its original purpose as a grand family home. Today, it displays preserved period features while functioning for contemporary living.

    The Queen of Easton, as it is often called, sits on a corner lot and is topped by a tower with a steep witch’s hat roof. Irregularly placed gables are adorned with scalloped siding. A deep porch fronts the intersecting streets.

    The turnkey house takes full advantage of outdoor living space with a corner lounge and screened-in dining porch. Another porch sits off the back of the house, where antique brick paths lead through gardens and deodar cedars to a Williamsburg fountain and the detached garage.

    Inside, rich woodwork fills the foyer, which opens to a formal living room with a gas fireplace. The dining room, which can seat 12, connects to the modernized kitchen with a marble-topped island, bar and breakfast nook. The nearby laundry room doubles as a butler’s pantry.

    A carved oak staircase leads to the second-floor bedrooms, one of which features a Victorian-era keyhole window. There are three bedrooms on this floor, including a primary suite with a sitting room, sleeping porch, wood-burning fireplace and second porch with a sauna. The third floor has two more bedrooms.

    Throughout the nearly 4,000 square feet of living space are five full bathrooms and a powder room. The asking price for 132 South Harrison Street is $2.25 million.

    Suss sees the home as appealing to a wide range of potential buyers. The current owners work from home and have used the residence for hosting events and overnight guests.

    “This home is an ideal setup for a family of four, with parents who telework,” she says. “Elementary, middle and high schools are all walkable.”
