  • Eagles announce some roster moves, including CB Jakorian Bennett’s impending return from IR

    [ad_1]

The Philadelphia Eagles announced a handful of roster moves in advance of their first practice of Week 8. Let’s review each of the moves.

The Eagles opened the 21-day practice window for Jakorian Bennett: The Eagles traded for Bennett near the end of training camp, after Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo failed to definitively win the CB2 job. Both Jackson and Ringo have been benched for each other at different times this season, and Bennett hasn’t yet gotten a chance start, mainly because he suffered a pectoral injury Week 3 against the Rams and landed on IR.

“You can’t practice when you’re on IR, so once we open up his window and get him on the practice field, see where he is at, I can answer that better,” Vic Fangio said on Tuesday, when asked what type of role he might have as early as Sunday against the Giants. “But obviously, he’s a guy we’ll take a hard look at.”

The Eagles did not open the practice window for EDGE Nolan Smith: Smith has been on IR the required four games, but the Eagles opted not to open his 21-day practice window. He will almost certainly remain on IR for at least another week, missing the Eagles’ Week 8 game against the Giants. To be determined if he’ll be good to go against the Packers Week 9 after the bye.

The Eagles signed OG Sua Opeta to the practice squad: Opeta played for the Eagles from 2019 to 2023, playing in 38 games, starting 10. He signed in free agency with the Buccaneers in 2024, but suffered a torn ACL during training camp and missed the entire season. Opeta did not make the Bucs’ initial 53-man roster out of 2025 training camp, but signed back to their practice squad. The Bucs released him from the practice squad a couple weeks ago.

Brandon Graham will have a two-game roster exemption: This wasn’t a team announcement, but Graham won’t take up a roster spot for a maximum of two games while he tries to get back into football shape, following his unretirement. In other words, he’ll be added to the 53-man roster prior to the Eagles’ Week 11 home matchup against the Lions on November 16th, unless the team decides he’s ready to play sooner, in which case they can activate him to the 53-man roster at any time.

  • Three cut players around the NFL who could interest the Eagles

    [ad_1]

The Philadelphia Eagles have arguably the best roster in the NFL and are therefore unlikely to make waiver claims in bulk on other teams’ trash this year. They are also 32nd on the waiver priority order, which means that even if they put claims in on players, a lot of other teams would have to pass on them first. Still, Howie Roseman always works the margins, and if there is a player available who they feel is better than their 53rd guy, he will always look to improve the roster.

To be clear, you’re not landing starters off of waivers, so they’re not going to be looking for a starting cornerback there, for example. But here are three guys who I think make sense for minor roles on the current team, or as developmental projects for the practice squad:

CB JuJu Brents: Brents is a third-year corner who the Colts selected in the second round of the 2023 draft. He has had a lot of injury misfortune, via the IndyStar

Brents arrived in Indianapolis while still recovering from a wrist surgery after the draft, suffered hamstring and quadriceps injuries during the 2023 season that caused him to miss eight games, then broke his nose in the 2024 preseason and suffered a torn MCL and meniscus in the 2024 season opener, forcing him to miss the next 15 games.

That almost sounds like a scene from a Naked Gun movie:

Anyway, Brents has great size and some explosive athletic measurables:

He also came to Philly on a pre-draft visit in 2023. Other guys who came on pre-draft visits in 2023? Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Kelee Ringo, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, to name a few.

Maybe you bring Brents in, hope that he has better injury luck, and try to develop him?

RS Britain Covey: Covey was arguably the best punt returner in the NFL in 2023. However, he suffered a neck injury in 2024 and only played in five games. He signed with the Rams in free agency, but did not make their 53-man roster. If the season started today, the Eagles’ punt returner would probably be Cooper DeJean or Jahan Dotson. Vic Fangio certainly doesn’t want DeJean returning punts, and Dotson is probably a guy who is only back there to make sure he secures the catch, as opposed to a guy who is a threat to break off a long return.

The Eagles would probably only be interested if they could sign Covey to the practice squad and elevate him on gameday.

RB Audric Estimé: Estimé was a Broncos 2024 fifth-round pick who carried 76 times for 310 yards (4.1 YPC) and 2 TDs as a rookie. He’s 5’11, 227, and kind of a north-south power back. The Eagles cut a similar style back in Montrell Johnson, who feels like a good bet to land on the practice squad. But if Estimé isn’t claimed on waivers, he is a better version of Johnson.

  • Losing A Talent — Then Adding Some More. – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

Once again in 2025 — the Eagles had high hopes for the physical play of wide receiver Johnny Wilson. Wilson — who was drafted in 2024 from the Florida State — injured himself in practice this week and will be shortly undergoing surgery that will keep him out for the 2025–2026 season.

When we last saw the Eagles offensive line during the NFL regular season — they weren’t in a meeting. They were meeting at the quarterback. Patrick Mahomes spent the evening of Super Bowl LIX on the turf of the Caesars Superdome. Now they have added yet another weapon (to their arsenal.)

Former Bears DT Jereme Robinson is now a Philadelphia Eagle. Robinson played four seasons at Kansas where he had fourteen sacks, five forced fumbles, ninety-eight tackles (29 of them for a loss.) Robinson had been with both the New England Patriots as well as the Bears as a UDFA after the 2025 NFL Draft — Jereme Robinson had been with Chicago for less than a month prior to the trade and had a hurry against Jets quarterback Adrian Martinez.

But the Eagles roster moves weren’t done there before the weekend was over — in more ways than one. Six months after Carson Wentz watched the team that drafted him in 2016 obliterate his then team (Kansas City) Minnesota signed the journeyman quarterback. Subsequently — they then sent quarterback Sam Howell to Philadelphia (along with a 6th round pick in 2026 in exchange for a 2026 5th round pick and a 2027 seventh round pick.)

The move comes after Eagles Quarterback Tanner McKee broke his finger in practice. After a successful college career in which he passed for over 10,000 yards — (Howell) was selected with the 144th selection in the 2022 NFL Draft by Washington. Two years ago (2024) — he was traded in return for a third and fifth round selection. Last Spring— Minnesota traded a fifth round selection for Howell and another fifth round selection in order to bring the quarterback to the Vikings.

  • The Eagles signed some guys

    The Eagles signed some guys

    [ad_1]

The Philadelphia Eagles signed two players to futures contracts on Tuesday. They were RB Tyrion Davis-Price and OT Darian Kinnard, both of whom were selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. They also signed former Lions edge rusher Julian Okwara last Wednesday. We’ll round up all three guys here.

    RB Tyrion Davis-Price

Davis-Price was a 49ers third-round pick out of LSU. He’s a bigger back at 6’1, 219, who did not have great college stats.

Tyrion Davis-Price  Rush  Yards  YPC  TD
    2019  64  295  4.6
    2020  104  446  4.3
    2021  211  1003  4.8
    TOTAL  379  1744  4.6  15

A yards per carry average of 4.6 is good in the NFL, not so impressive at LSU. He was a Day 3 prospect who got picked on Day 2. He probably got a little over-drafted because he ran a 4.48 at the Combine, a good time for his size. And, certainly, he had his explosive moments at LSU:

A scouting report, via Lance Zierlein of NFL Network

Big, athletic back offering an enticing blend of size and explosiveness to go with an SEC pedigree. Davis-Price’s early season tape was listless and lacking pro quality, but that changed over the second half of the year. He’s an enigmatic back featuring urgency, indecisiveness, physicality and finesse on any given carry. He got much better as the season progressed and clearly finds a rhythm when given volume carries. Scouts say that staying motivated will be a major factor in future success. Davis-Price’s athletic ability and hammerhead finishes will help him create yardage. He has the size and upside worthy of consideration in the middle rounds.

The “motivation” nugget is interesting. In his first two seasons in the pros in San Francisco, Davis-Price has ridden the bench. He had 34 carries for 99 yards (2.9 YPC) in 2022, and 6 carries for 21 yards (3.5 YPC) in 2023. They waived him in December and he finished out the season on the Niners’ practice squad.

The Eagles evidently gave Davis-Price more pay than the typical player signing a futures contract:

“Don’t mind him, just writing history,” lol.

The addition of Davis-Price makes sense, as D’Andre Swift, Boston Scott, and Rashaad Penny are all free agents this offseason. Also, paying (likely) negligibly more to a guy on a futures contract is a reasonable enough strategy by the Eagles’ front office. None of these guys are likely to make an impact, but I respect the hustle in working the margins.

    OT Darian Kinnard

Kinnard was a Chiefs fifth-round selection in 2022. He made the 53-man roster as a rookie, but was a scratch for 17 games, and active for just three. He appeared in one game, getting 6 special teams snaps.

Kinnard did not make the 53-man roster out of training camp in 2023, and spent the entirety of the season on the Chiefs’ practice squad.

We profiled Kinnard in our prospects series in 2021. He had experience at LT and RT (mostly RT) in college at Kentucky, but the thinking then was that talent evaluators would have to decide if he was going to be a RT or a RG at the pro level. The Chiefs tried to develop him at OT, and the Eagles announced him as an OT, so I suppose he’s staying there.

Kinnard was a strong run blocker at Kentucky who could move the line of scrimmage. Here he is, at RT in Kentucky’s 2020 bowl game:

The Eagles can use more depth bodies along the right side of the line with Jack Driscoll potentially leaving in free agency.

    EDGE Julian Okwara

Okwara was a Lions high third-round pick (67th overall) in 2020. He landed on injured reserve as a rookie in 2020, and thus only played in 6 games. He had a promising season in 2021, when he had 27 tackles, 5 sacks, 9 QB hits, an INT, a forced fumble, and a couple of pass breakups as a depth player.

However, his progress stalled in 2022, when he once again landed on IR. In 2023, he rarely played (121 snaps), he was waived during the playoffs in January, eventually signing back to the practice squad. We’ll also note here that Okwara suffered a broken leg in his final season in college at Notre Dame.

Okwara is 6’4, 239, with 9 career sacks. He has talent, but has not been able to stay on the field. The Eagles will likely give him a look at SAM.

    Depth chart updated here.
