Brisbane pub The Victory Hotel to close after long history in CBD – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

A favourite central Brisbane watering hole will close on Saturday.

The Victory Hotel on the corner of Edward and Charlotte streets in the CBD has long been a place for musicians, DJs and karaoke lovers to gather of an evening and enjoy a beverage in the beer garden.

Built in 1855, the pub was first known as the Prince of Wales before being renamed Victory — and then affectionately known as The Vic — and has been a Brisbane City Council local heritage site since 2009.

It is the oldest surviving hotel in Brisbane city and according to the council, “retains the principal characteristics of a 19th century hotel, including its prominent corner position”.

The site was fully leased until this year to Woolworths-backed Australian Hospitality and Liquor Group (AHL).

A spokeswoman for AHL said the group had made a “decision not to enter a new lease with the landlord”.

Owner Precision Group has been contacted for comment.

Venue manager Phil Coles posted to social media that the “rumours are true”, but later removed the post.

“The sad day has come after 21 years where we have to close the doors on a Brisbane icon,” he wrote.

“It’s been an honour to have been there on and off for 12 of those years and venue manager for the last five years.

“Our last day of trade will…

  • Are people moving away from obsessing over pumpkin spice?

Are people moving away from obsessing over pumpkin spice?

    [ad_1]

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – It’s an American tradition, as soon as the leaves start falling, the pumpkin spice lattes start pouring. The flavor seeped into the public consciousness in 2003, when Starbucks realized no one had tapped into the world of pumpkin. The company thought it would be the perfect addition for its fall collection, and they were right.

“I don’t know why, but people go crazy for it,” said Sam Lopez, Manager of The Velvet Robot Coffee Lab.

However, is this autumn squash slowly losing its magic?

“We were like man, you know, we don’t enjoy pumpkin spice lattes or pumpkin spice in general as much as everyone else seems to, so there’s gotta be other people who feel that way, so when we did our little study that’s exactly what we found out,” said Jason Patton, Vice President of Fire Department Coffee in Rockford.

Patton and his team conducted a survey where they interviewed 500 Americans about the signature spice. Here are some of the results:

    – Only 26% said they prefer pumpkin spice over other flavors.

    – 10% say they’ve had at least one argument with a friend or family member over differing pumpkin spice opinions.

-11% said they’d consider breaking up with a partner over differing pumpkin spice opinion.

As a result, Patton think there’s new fall coffee flavors on the horizon.

“People love crème brulee, so I’m gonna play with crème brulee, make it like a salted caramel brulee,” said Pete DuFoe, who owns Inzombia Coffee.

“When we created our vanilla bean bourbon infused coffee for home, bean or whole ground, that was our highest seller immediately,” Patton said.

As we move into winter, peppermint and cinnamon will take center stage.

  • Dunky Cup – Dunk Like a Boss

Dunky Cup is a fun new way to enjoy one of America’s favorite pastimes – Milk and Cookies

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 4, 2017

Phoenix-based startup, Sprybird LLC, just released a fun new product that is a must-have for cookie dunkers.

Named Dunky Cup, it is redefining the milk and cookie experience. Heavy-duty, yet sleek and comfortable to hold, the dunking cup was meticulously crafted for various-shaped cookies and milk. Inspired by the creator’s love for Oreo Cookies (TM), the three pockets also nestle a variety of morsels such as Milano’s (TM), graham crackers, vanilla wafers, and even your own freshly baked cookies. At center stage, ice cold milk, tea, or coffee is stored and is where the dunking fun and mystique takes place. As an added bonus, Dunky Cup allows you to ditch the plate, elevating you to cookie dunking bliss with a simple, yet innovative approach to cookie dunking.

My kiddos are gonna go nuts over this!

“I’ve always had a sweet tooth and a passion for inventing,” says the cup’s inventor Jim Smith. “These attributes crossed paths one night as I was sitting on the couch with my milk and cookies. As I stared at the cookie crumbs on my plate and then over at the small pile of dishes from cookies past on the adjacent table, the idea to integrate plate and cup came to me. I tried not to get too excited because I assumed that something this extraordinary probably had already been imagined. After hours of searching, a few other ideas that solved the cookie conundrum appeared, but I was unable to find any similar to Dunky Cup. From this point forward, I began my quest to solve this first world problem. With a background in engineering design, I initially modeled the cup for 4 cookies, but later decided that 3 cookies packaged much better and allowed for 8 ounces of milk in the center, plus it’s great portion control! The overall shape and feel of the cup evolved slightly over the course of its development as I created multiple 3D printed plastic and porcelain prototypes and got feedback from friends, industrial designers, and manufacturers. Eventually I decided on a very durable food-safe plastic. I now look forward to a successful Kickstarter campaign which is live as of 2/3/17.”

  • Drink Saporé Solves Glug Factor Problem

Drink Saporé Solves Glug Factor Problem

    [ad_1]

Liquids from containers do not flow smoothly, they glug because the vacuum inside every container inhibits gravity from working.  The inventors behind Drink Saporé have created a 100% recyclable plastic fluid cartridge that solves the glug problem.

When placed inside one of our dispensers, at the push of a button the cartridge works by simultaneously opening an air hole and releasing contained fluids, allowing gravity to deliver a smooth flow.  The cartridge then reseals itself to keep the ingredients fresh, providing a solution that is simple, clean and convenient with no electricity needed.  Consumers use their own hot, cold or bubbly water and adjust flavoring to their own personal taste, Made, Like U Like™.

“Consumers love the combination of convenience and choice so we are planning a global online store to reflect regional tastes. Instead of software apps our platform will be selling a multitude of flavors.”

Ian Goldey, President of Drink Saporé

The beverage industry will be the first introduction of the Drink Saporé technology because consumer demand is changing as evidenced by declining soda sales at the likes of Coca-Cola® and PepsiCo.

According to Drink Saporé president Ian Goldey, “Consumers love the combination of convenience and choice so we are planning a global online store to reflect regional tastes.  Instead of software apps our platform will be selling a multitude of flavors.”  Seth Golden, beverage analyst, added, “Drink Saporé is the evolution of beverage systems such as the Keurig® because we deliver more flavor choices than just coffee while also being eco-conscious.”  Instead of single serve pods our 150ml cartridge provides between ten and twenty 12oz servings and they are both refillable and recyclable.

Our cartridge technology can also be applied to cosmetic, industrial, medical and consumer goods.  One example is a washing machine that holds cartridges containing detergent, fabric softener and bleach.  No mess or heavy bottles, just simple and convenient and a perfect solution for companies such as Proctor & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson.

Drink Saporé has recently completed consumer testing at the LA Women’s Expo and other events and our team is ecstatic at the positive results in the high 90th percentile for the Drink Saporé cartridge solution.
