I’m 5’2″—These Are the 30 Best Petite Dresses Out There

    [ad_1]

As someone who stands at a solid 5’2″ on the best of days, I can personally attest to the fact that shopping for dresses can feel like a real challenge. This is coming from the person who had to wear kid-size dresses well into my middle school years because everything else I tried on was either too big in the chest, too long at the hem, or a sorry combination of both. But now that I’m an adult, I have finally discovered all of the best petite dresses that work for me, and I’m sharing them with all of you, of course.

While you can—and should!—wear whichever dresses you want, no matter your height, let these options act as a series of guideposts if you truly don’t know what to look for when shopping for something new. I personally keep going back to a few fail-safe silhouettes because I always know that they’re going to look great in a pinch.

To make life easier, I’ve broken down all of my favorite frocks into five categories. These picks range from going out–approved minidresses to a few midi- and maxi-length options that will work for that day when you eventually need to return to the office, so keep scrolling to shop them all right now.

See Simone Ashley’s TikTok-Viral Dress From the Green Carpet Fashion Awards

    [ad_1]

We’re always excited when the stars come out in style, especially when it’s for a great cause like the Green Fashion Awards. Founded by Livia Firth and co-chaired by Simone Ashley, Cate Blanchett, Quannah Chasinghorse, Viola Davis, Tom Ford, Salma Hayek and Simu Liu, the debut of this soon-to-be annual event celebrates positive partnerships and changemakers in the entertainment and fashion industries.

The evening bestowed several honors to cross-industry A-listers including Tom Ford, Edward Enninful, and Alicia Silverstone, and also took time to recognize fourteen female leaders from around the globe for their inspirational activism, understanding, and interplay between environmental action, civil rights, equality, global feminism and building a better collective future.

It was fitting, then, that co-chair Simone Ashley’s minty green Blumarine Pre-Fall 2023 off-the-shoulder dress stole the show—at least on TikTok, where our video of Ashley garnered nearly 2 million views, over 200,000 likes, and over 500 comments. We’re used to seeing the Bridgerton actress in decidedly more complicated gowns so this timeless silhouette in an unexpected color, and with a very on-trend rosette embellishment at the bust, feels much more modern and appropriately on-theme.

Ahead, see several of the best-dressed guests at the Green Fashion Awards, and prepare to be inspired.

Among the many reasons sundresses are our go-to as summer approaches, the ease and comfort with which they can be worn and styled are high up there. However, while throwing on a sundress is an undeniably effortless process, figuring out which shoes to wear with it might not come as easy.

When your flip-flops feel a little too casual, heels may ruin the ease that makes the sundress so appealing, so it can be hard to figure out what shoes will work, which is why we’ve rounded up the best options. Keep reading to learn about the six types of shoes you’ll want to wear with sundresses all summer long.

The It Girl–Approved Way to Wear Dresses With Sneakers

    [ad_1]

Considering the fact that there are a handful of outfits that will always look good, you can build a completely foolproof wardrobe for the season if you really put your mind to it. However, if there’s one ensemble we had to pick as our favorite, it would be a dress with sneakers. Don’t get us wrong. We love skinny jeans with ankle boots as much as any other outfit, but in case you want to switch things up a bit, this one really takes the cake.

Wearing a one-and-done piece like a dress is already simple enough, but the addition of a pair of sneakers will have you giving off that enviable cool-girl vibe in one easy step. Whether you’re headed to drinks with friends or are jetting out of the house to run errands, we’re here to show you why dresses with sneakers are the outfit formula you should always have on rotation. To prove our point, we rounded up some of our favorite takes on the look from the coolest fashion people. Check them out below.

  • Here’s How to Pair Jackets With Dresses

Here’s How to Pair Jackets With Dresses

    [ad_1]

No matter the season, it goes without saying that my dresses are some of the simplest and most convenient pieces in my wardrobe. In the summer, I throw one on and run out the door with barely a thought because they’re the most practical item one can wear while summer temps blaze. In winter, the added thought is only to slip into a pair of tights and maybe layer a turtleneck underneath. No matter the season, however, dresses are always complicated by one thing: coats. In the summer, temperatures can swing from 90ºF midday to 65ºF at night in the blink of an eye, which means it’s essential to have a coat to combat the evening chill. In fall and winter, a coat practically becomes part of your outfit as you need one to even step out the door.

The challenge lies in the fact that, as a coat immediately becomes the most visible part of your ensemble, it can easily make or break an outfit. Styling coats with dresses can be particularly tricky, as the final layer can make the entire dress seem shapeless or even cover it in its entirety. But it’s necessary, and there are, in fact, ways that a coat can upgrade—and even highlight—the dress underneath. If you don’t believe me, read on to learn how to pair jackets with dresses.

  • Here’s How to Nail a White-Tie Dress Code (and Avoid All the Common Mistakes)

Here’s How to Nail a White-Tie Dress Code (and Avoid All the Common Mistakes)

    [ad_1]

At a glance, it may seem like there isn’t a significant difference between white-tie and black-tie dress codes. The distinction between the two dress codes is a bit clearer for men since a white-tie event requires a tuxedo as opposed to a suit. For women, though, gowns are worn at both, but there are a few key differences between the two dress codes. Most importantly, it comes down to the formality of your gown. At a black-tie event, you might get away with an elegant tea-length dress, but for a white-tie, you shouldn’t stray from a floor-length dress, ball gown, or a distinctly formal jumpsuit.

At a black-tie event, there’s an opportunity to be a bit creative with your eveningwear, whether it’s with a print, color, or statement accessories, depending on the event. At a white-tie event, you want to focus on finding the most elevated version of eveningwear that stays true to your personal style. Think of the events like the Oscars or a gala when finding inspiration for your look.

Now that we’ve established what white-tie means, let’s dig into the do’s and don’ts when choosing the perfect white-tie ensemble.

15 Dress Styles Fashion People Wear Over and Over Again

    [ad_1]

Question: Is there one thing you can’t have enough of in your wardrobe? For some, the answer may be a great pair of jeans, or maybe it’s shoes. But I’ve always been a devoted fan of dresses. No matter what season it is, I’m about that life. And while I always make room for a new frock, I have to admit that there can be a limit to how many dresses one should own (even if it’s only imposed by real estate). When you can’t have every type of dress imaginable, you have to be able to edit it down to a thoughtful capsule

So in that vein, I’ve scrolled through Instagram for hours to identify 15 types of dresses that are worthwhile investments. Each style’s worthiness was determined by its popularity among the fashion set, versatility, longevity, and ability to fit seamlessly into any wardrobe. Whether you consider yourself a modest dresser or live for a special occasion, you’ll be able to find at least one type of dress that’s worth the closet space for you.

Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world’s eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We’ll be following the Meghan Markle Effect with our column, “Meghan Markle Wore a Thing.”

Meghan Markle put a new spin on evening elegance with her latest red carpet appearance in custom Louis Vuitton, designed by the house’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière

She and Prince Harry attended the 2022 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Award Gala in New York City, where the couple received an award for their charitable work through the Archwell foundation. For the occasion, Ghesquière designed a minimalist, ivory-colored off-the-shoulder dress with a tapered tulip skirt and gentle draping. To accompany the look, Markle also wore a shoulder-grazing pair of earrings by CH Carolina Herrera and black pumps.

Jenna Ortega Just Wore a Sheer, Lace Dress With the Highest Slit, Like, Ever

    [ad_1]

Jenna Ortega is taking her press tour for Netflix’s new Addams Family series Wednesday very seriously, especially when it comes to her outfits. A month after wearing a completely sheer, black lace dress to Valentino’s S/S 23 show, the Gen Z darling wore a similar, albeit even more daring sheer, lace look for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. This time, though, her dress featured a sky-high slit unlike any we’ve seen before.

For the show, Ortega and her stylist Enrique Melendez chose a long-sleeve, half French lace and half opaque dress from the fashion favorite label Dion Lee and a pair of Christian Louboutin platforms. In addition to the see-through material, it also featured cutouts around the ribs and up to the actress’s hip on one side. Bold? Yes. Shockingly pretty? Also yes.

See her look for Jimmy Kimmel Live! and shop more dresses and skirts with outrageously high (and chic) slits below.

Hailey Bieber Wore a Fully Sheer Maxi Dress With Black Lingerie to an LA Party

    [ad_1]

What makes Hailey Bieber’s style so aspirational is the way she can make anything look effortlessly cool and genuinely copiable, whether it’s a post-pilates set or a slip dress at the Met Gala. Even her most daring style choices—yes, I’m talking about that Met Gala after-party look—elicit a million clones on Instagram and TikTok. And her latest one, despite being one of her most risqué yet, is no exception.

For a party put on by Tiffany & Co. in Los Angeles, the Rhode founder made a completely sheer black maxi dress from Saint Laurent, worn with nothing but a matching bra and underwear set, look entirely casual and wearable. Once intimidating, Bieber managed to make naked dressing for fall an approachable concept. Just add some strappy, sky-high heels and a gold wrist cuff.
