  • This Once-Hated Dress Trend is Suddenly All I Care About

This Once-Hated Dress Trend is Suddenly All I Care About

    [ad_1]

If 2023 has taught me anything thus far, it’s to never say never. At the start of the year, I all of a sudden coming around to the idea of wearing voluminous full skirts, something I would have never been caught dead in before. And now that summer dressing is on my mind, there’s another surprising style bubbling up and it’s making me question everything I thought I knew. All of a sudden, I’m seeing fit-and-flare dresses start to trend and for once, I’m not opposed to the idea of wearing one. In fact, I’ve seen so many chic options that I’ve officially remove them from the list of things that are banned from my closet.

I’ll admit it, I was once a hater of fit-and-flare dresses. The fitted waist and full skirt shape just felt too sweet for my personal style, and yet here I am, writing my apology letter to the style. If you’re wondering But why now? the answer has to do with the new wave of fit-and-flare dresses I’m noticing. Instead of having volume on both the top and bottom, balanced only by a nipped-in waist, the styles on deck for 2023 offer a refined update with a completely fitted bodice and full skirt. Some of the standout dresses even qualify as drop-waist styles, another current favorite of mine. In other words, the styles you’re about to see are streamlined, minimal, and very chic.

Ahead, scroll through to shop the best fit-and-flare dresses of summer 2023 and glean some outfit inspiration along the way.

  • Angelina Jolie Bravely Wore the Dress Style I Could Never Wear to the Airport

Angelina Jolie Bravely Wore the Dress Style I Could Never Wear to the Airport

    [ad_1]

I would probably never wear the outfit Angelina Jolie wore to JFK this week when traveling myself, but there’s no denying how chic she looks. I admire her commitment to being the picture of quiet luxury at all times, especially at the airport. Jolie chose a long white dress paired with platform sandals (currently on sale at Nordstrom and available to shop below), a lightweight black jacket, and a tote bag.

So what makes this outfit somewhat controversial? Well, the likelihood of spilling something of yourself is high on airport travel days, as your lap is basically your table for much of the day. And I’m sure you’ve noticed that airport and airplane seats aren’t the cleanest. There’s a lot of white fabric in Jolie’s outfit to keep clean, but I imagine if anyone can do it, it’s Jolie. I prefer to stick to dark colors when I’m traveling just in case of mishaps, but if Jolie has inspired you to wear a white maxi dress to the airport, I support you. If not, scroll to shop a few alternative airport dresses that aren’t as prone to stains.

  • These Are the 29 Most Expensive-Looking Dresses on Amazon

These Are the 29 Most Expensive-Looking Dresses on Amazon

    [ad_1]

In my circle of friends, I’m the one everyone goes to when they’re looking to buy new clothes. It’s almost at the point where I am offended if my friend purchases something without asking me. Leading up to the summer, my most frequently asked question is, “Where can I get cool summer dresses that won’t break the bank?” I mean, who doesn’t want an endless collection of summer dresses to wear all season long? I’ve made multiple suggestions to my friends from my favorite retailers, but inflation has hiked the prices of even the most notoriously affordable sites. This has led me to begin pointing my friends to Amazon.

Ah, Amazon. The land of endless scrolling. It can be hard to find things on the retailer’s site that are actually worth buying. Lucky for you, I’ve done all the digging. The 29 finds below look double their price and are worth wearing on repeat. Happy shopping.

  • I Spent 2 Hours Trying On Dresses at Zara, and These 6 Left Me Speechless

I Spent 2 Hours Trying On Dresses at Zara, and These 6 Left Me Speechless

    [ad_1]

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that whenever I’m anywhere near a Zara location, I’m going to walk in and try on at least a dozen items. I’ve been this way since a Zara store opened in my local mall, and I’ll probably always be this way. Call it a guilty pleasure. So, when I walked by the Bryant Park location last night after work, I naturally had to pop inside and see what was new. And it’s a good thing I did because in all my years of shopping at Zara, there have only been a handful of occasions where my try-ons were this successful.

Within minutes of stepping inside the store’s revolving doors, I had at least three items in my hand, all of which happened to be dresses. One loop around the main floor later, and I’d added four more to the pile. By the time I got downstairs to the dressing rooms, I’d accumulated more summer dresses than Zara allows you to take into the fitting room at once. Suddenly two hours had passed, and I’d tried on at least 15 dresses, six of which had rendered me speechless. Keep scrolling to see which Zara dresses received 5-star reviews during my last in-store visit.

  • Amal Clooney Wore Classic Sneakers With the Perfect Casual Spring Dress

Amal Clooney Wore Classic Sneakers With the Perfect Casual Spring Dress

    [ad_1]

While Amal Clooney is a workwear fashion icon, her off-duty style is just as noteworthy—and quite different from her usual business attire, I might add. She appears to love fashion and has fun with it, often wearing items that are quite trendy. While getting coffee in L.A. earlier this week, Clooney embraced the “quiet luxury” look.

Clooney re-wore a knit Stella McCartney dress in step with this spring’s “in” aesthetic. Knit dresses are ideal for spring when the weather is not quite cold but not exactly hot since they’re comfortable, versatile, and provide a bit of warmth. Clooney was previously spotted in this particular dress at the airport, where she paired it with a controversial pair of boots.

This time, however, she opted for classic white Adidas Stan Smith sneakers, proving that two timeless and versatile items are better than one. Read on to shop Clooney’s chic spring outfit combination.

  • Apparently, “We’ve Got to Move On” From Floral Midis—These Dresses Are Next

Apparently, “We’ve Got to Move On” From Floral Midis—These Dresses Are Next

    [ad_1]

According to, Queralt Ferrer, the fashion director of the iconic British brand, John Lewis, it’s time to move on from the floral print midi dress trend. At first glance, this seems like an outlandish sentiment, especially since the dress style is still a favorite among the fashion set, but Ferrer’s take is actually much more nuanced. During an interview with The Guardian, Ferrer acknowledged that customers still love floral print dresses, but that she and her team don’t want their customer to “just keep buying what she already owns.”

That said, there is no need to store your favorite floral print midi dresses, but if you are looking for a forward-thinking closet refresh, try taking a departure from the usual ditzy floral prints. Instead, opt for dress styles with bolder, brighter florals in a variety of lengths. The article describes the evolution as more exotic botanical garden rather than romantic English country cottage. Ahead shop 40 editor-approved dresses that fit the bill, plus some outfit inspiration on how to wear the fresh style.

  • Zendaya Wore the Prettiest Dress Trend For Her Surprise Coachella Performance

Zendaya Wore the Prettiest Dress Trend For Her Surprise Coachella Performance

    [ad_1]

I didn’t attend Coachella but I’m guessing that when Zendaya stepped onto the stage during Labrinth’s weekend two set, the crowd lost it. Zendaya has stepped away from music to focus on acting projects in recent years, so it’s safe to say that no one expected to see her there, mic in hand. And in true Zendaya fashion, she looked perfect.

For the appearance, Zendaya wore a pretty, early-2000s dress trend that’s once again surging: a ruffled mini dress. The pink dress featured a fitted bodice and a bow at the chest, and she made it look even more forward by layering a white tank underneath it. (FYI, Miu Miu can be credited with making T-shirt layering a thing this season.) Zendaya paired the dress with thigh-high black boots, cutting the sweetness of the dress a bit, whether that was the intention or not.

If Zendaya has convinced you to spring for a ruffled dress, scroll on to shop some of my current favorites.

I had some time before a dinner this week and decided to treat myself to a quick game of dress up in the J.Crew dressing rooms, not because I had the intention of buying anything, but rather, just for the fun of it. Little did I know when I pulled open the doors of the brand’s Fifth Avenue store that I was about to stumble upon the motherload otherwise known as dozens of new dresses, all of which are perfect for spring.

Though my reservation time didn’t allow me to try on every last one of the freshly dropped dresses, I did get a chance to test-drive a few of them.
