  • North Texas Teacher on Leave After ‘Full Drag’ Video Goes Viral

North Texas Teacher on Leave After ‘Full Drag’ Video Goes Viral

In Carrollton, a teacher who recently wore a dress to school is now on administrative leave.

Video posted Wednesday by a prominent right-wing influencer shows a Hebron High School educator chatting with students while wearing a pink dress, boots and hat. It has since gone viral, raking in some 4.2 million views.

“UNREAL. This is an actual teacher in @LewisvilleISD named Rachmad Tjachyadi,” the X account Libs of TikTok wrote. “I’m told he also sometimes shows up to teach dressed in full drag and has a f*tish for wearing women’s clothing. How is this acceptable?!”

Libs of TikTok is a phenomenon in right-wing circles, having been embraced by conservative titans like former President Donald Trump and ex-FOX host Tucker Carlson. But critics argue the handle is a frequent spreader of misinformation and anti-LGBTQ+ hate, and that its vitriol sometimes bleeds over into the real world.

Vice reported in October that several schools blasted by Libs of TikTok were subsequently hit with harassment and bomb threats. (The account’s creator has bristled at being linked to such occurrences and denies culpability.) The Anti-Defamation League flagged the handle in a January 2023 post titled “Online Amplifiers of Anti-LGBTQ+ Extremism.”

Still, it’s clear that Libs of TikTok wields real power outside of the online realm, including here in North Texas.

Hebron High School Principal Amy Boughton sent parents a note on Thursday concerning the viral dress clip. On Friday morning, a Lewisville ISD spokesperson told the Observer that the district is “aware of the video circulating on social media.

“The staff member has been placed on administrative leave while the district reviews the situation, which is standard procedure,” the spokesperson continued. “Because this is a personnel matter currently under review, there is no additional information the district can share.”

A media request sent to Tjachyadi’s school email bounced back “because the address couldn’t be found, or is unable to receive mail.”

Conservatives have pointed to the Hebron High School video as proof of a supposed LGBTQ+ agenda in public schools. Some X users have called Tjachyadi a “drag queen” and a “groomer.”

“This is in Texas everyone,” one poster wrote. “There is a war on children and we have a lot of work to do if we’re going to stop this evil.”

“He is a great teacher … He does not deserve to be defamed and lose his job.” – Change.org Petition

    tweet this

But plenty of North Texans have come to the teacher’s defense, including students at Hebron High.

One Change.org petition demanding Tjachyadi’s return had received more than 1,020 signatures as of late Friday morning.

“Recently, Mr.Tjachyadi was put on blast on twitter for wearing a pink dress for a spirit day. He is being called a pedophile, among other names, however, this is NOT the case and he is beloved by many students at Hebron,” the petitioner wrote. “He is a great teacher, he explains chemistry very well and has created a very fun and safe environment for his students. He does not deserve to be defamed and lose his job.”

The petitioner further explained that students had actually encouraged Tjachyadi to don the dress.

Many community advocates have criticized the district’s response to the ordeal.
Frisco real estate agent Hava Johnston, a Democrat running for state Rep. Jared Patterson’s seat, posted the Change.org petition to Facebook. She said that Tjachyadi was placed on leave after wearing the controversial outfit on Valentine’s Day.

“Doesn’t matter that he is a wonderful teacher, students love him, staff loves him, and his students excell… nope none of that matters because, well because TEXAS,” Johnston wrote on Friday morning. “Please sign this petition to help get him back in his classroom.”

  • Dakota Johnson Wore a Thong-Baring Sheer Dress to the SNL After Party

Dakota Johnson Wore a Thong-Baring Sheer Dress to the SNL After Party

As if her Saturday Night Live promo images weren’t chic enough—with especially note-worthy inclusions being an Alessandra Rich catsuit made entirely of lace and a Khaite bodysuit styled with just tights and a giant feather coat—this week’s host Dakota Johnson showed up to the after party in the most perfect sheer, hand-beaded vintage Alaïa gown, like, ever

The dress, which was designed by the late founder of the house Azzedine Alaïa and included in his spring/summer 1996 collection, was sourced by Johnson’s longtime stylist Kate Young from Vintage Grace, a New York City–based designer-vintage business founded by Chandler Guttersen in 2021. It features short sleeves and sequin embellishments throughout, making it completely sheer and perfect for the occasion. On top, the Madame Web actress wore a feather Saint Laurent jacket, adding simple black pumps and a Jimmy Choo handbag to finish off the look.

Apparently, No One’s Wearing These Spring Dresses Anymore—Shop These 7 Instead

As cold as it feels outside (which, trust me, is cold), spring will eventually appear, and for most people, its arrival will come with the realization that their warm-weather wardrobes are in desperate need of a 2024 refresh. I like to think of myself as a pretty timeless dresser and shopper, and I still know for a fact that by the time the first nice day rolls around, the contents of my spring bins will feel at least slightly like old news. So rather than let spring sneak up on me like I have so many times before, I’m getting proactive about my wardrobe for the upcoming season—starting with dresses.

In an effort to distract myself from the cold this week, I cozied up inside and drew up a spring-dress plan, deciding which styles I no longer need in my closet and which I should fill those empty hangers with. After consulting friends, fellow editors, and, of course, Instagram, I came to the conclusion that the seven dress trends below are officially on the outs with the fashion crowd. Scroll down to find out which ones are getting the axe and find seven alts to buy instead.

  • Dua Lipa Wore the Underrated Color Trend That's Just as Versatile as Black

Dua Lipa Wore the Underrated Color Trend That's Just as Versatile as Black

Leave it to Dua Lipa to make us rethink our entire wardrobe for 2024. The singer recently wore a gorgeous dark-brown Tom Ford gown while in Jaipur, India, standing out among a wave of little black dresses flooding our Instagram feeds.

Although wearing head-to-toe neutrals is nothing new, opting for a rich chocolatey brown instead of beige, white, or black somehow looks and feels very fashion-forward. It’s decadent without being over-the-top, and it can be dressed up with metallic accessories for a bit of added sparkle or made simple for everyday wear with black accessories like boots, belts, and bags.

If you’re ready to start this year off on a stylish note, keep scrolling for some recent runway inspo, plus 13 dark-brown dresses to shop now. Most of these designs come in black, too, but if you choose a length, fabric, and neckline that’s right for you, your winter wardrobe will be full of little brown dresses in no time.

  • I'm on the Hunt for the Ultimate Revenge Dress—These 29 Have Me in a Choke Hold

I'm on the Hunt for the Ultimate Revenge Dress—These 29 Have Me in a Choke Hold

I’m a firm believer that looking your best is the best revenge, and that’s where the concept of a “revenge dress” comes from. I’d like to think the revenge dress has been around as long as dresses have existed, but most of us think of that infamous black dress Princess Diana wore in the ’90s to a Vanity Fair party. The timing coincided with her estranged husband confessing his infidelity during their marriage. Princess Diana looked so good that just her showing up in it was deemed an act of revenge.

Ever since, women everywhere have been secretly shopping for that one dress that you keep in your closet as backup and only bring out when you really need it. A revenge dress needs to make you feel confident and tends to have a touch of sexiness. I don’t know when I’m going to need a dress that doubles as an act of revenge, but I do know that I don’t want to be empty-handed when the time comes.

I rolled up my sleeves and got to looking for the best revenge dresses on the market and found 30 that have some serious wow factor. Keep scrolling to see the 29 I’m loving right now.

  • Hailey Bieber Already Wore the 2024 Trend We're Putting Big Money On

Hailey Bieber Already Wore the 2024 Trend We're Putting Big Money On

Anyone who’s visited Hailey Bieber’s Instagram feed during Halloween knows that the model and entrepreneur loves a good holiday, especially when it means dressing to a theme. And now that we’ve entered into December territory, it appears that her outfits have switched over to another holiday. “Christmas glitter,” she captioned an IG slideshow on Sunday, showcasing one of the chicest festive looks of the year thus far.

To celebrate the holiday season’s arrival, Bieber chose a long-sleeved minidress made of bone-colored satin from Khaite, which was paired with matching sparkly tights, a Prada top-handle bag, Balenciaga pumps, and a black velvet hair bow from Emi Jay. But while her accessories certainly finished off the look, her dress was no doubt the star of the show, especially given how on-trend satin is at the moment. After a buzzy showing on the spring/summer 2024 runways at Tory Burch, Altuzarra, Carven, Louis Vuitton, and more, the luxurious material was destined to become a major deal in the year ahead. Now that Bieber’s gone and stamped it with a Rhode Raspberry Jelly Peptide Lip Tinted kiss, any last doubts there were about the trend’s popularity in 2024 were squashed for good.

Below, check out Bieber’s on-trend holiday ‘fit and shop the fabric everyone will be talking about and wearing post NYE.

  • Khaite’s the Goal—H&M’s the Budget: This Chic $27 Halter Dress Is All You Need

Khaite’s the Goal—H&M’s the Budget: This Chic $27 Halter Dress Is All You Need

I have an obsessive personality, which can, like most things, be a good thing or a bad thing. It’s a good thing when it comes to cleaning, editing, or washing my face at night no matter how late it is. It’s a bad thing, though, when I find something that I desperately want that I simply cannot afford. I’ll think about said item day and night, stalking sales and resale sites until my screen time is up 500%.

Here’s a perfect example: Last February, Khaite held a runway show in SoHo, where the brand debuted a high-neck halter dress in a fitted, ribbed fabric that came to the model’s lower shins. It was perfectly sculpted, and the neckline epitomized elegance and refinement. I zeroed in on the dress, feasting over its every thread and waiting patiently until it became available. When it did, I immediately started saving. But with life comes expenses, and given the dress’s lofty price tag, I still haven’t quite been able to give it a home in my closet.

  • If Your Vibe Is Bottega Veneta But Your Budget Is H&M, This $75 Dress Is a Must

If Your Vibe Is Bottega Veneta But Your Budget Is H&M, This $75 Dress Is a Must

If you speak to any fashion editor about the dresses on their current wish list, they’ll likely bring up some iteration of a halter-neck midi dress. The style has been gaining momentum for a while now, in large part due to Matthieu Blazy’s Bottega Veneta collections, which have included the silhouette in a variety of colors and fabrications. Nipped-in waists, bubble hems, fringe details, and voluminous skirts are also features of his halter-neck frocks. Of course, an off-the-runway Bottega Veneta dress isn’t exactly within everyone’s budgets, and with the dress style in question trending right now, there isn’t a ton of time to save up. Fortunately, I just stumbled upon a $75 alt that checks off similar trend boxes without the rather large investment.

The dress in question comes courtesy of H&M’s latest fall drop and is a black V-neck halter dress with an A-line shape and a fringed jacquard-pattern skirt. Did I mention that it’s $75 and fully stocked? There’s only one catch that I can think of, and that’s the high likelihood of it selling out as soon as the masses find it hidden in the brand’s nearly 1000-item new-arrivals section. That’s why I made it extra easy to snag by linking straight to the dress below. You’re welcome.

Nordstrom Predicted I’d Love These Picks, and I’m Freaking Out—They’re So Good

As a fashion and market editor, I have been shopping professionally for years. • I loved my dress. My fiancé’s ominous reaction was a warning sign

I loved my dress. My fiancé’s ominous reaction was a warning sign

When I was newly engaged in 1986, my grandfather sent a Christmas gift of cash. I knew just what to do with it. There was a strapless, red sequined dress with a chiffon ruffled skirt in the window of a Santa Monica boutique that I’d been eyeing for weeks.

After working my way up from receptionist after film school, I became the west coast production manager for a commercial and music video company on the legendary Sunset Boulevard. For a girl from Ohio, I was living the dream. This dress was my destiny. It was sexy and sparkly and sophisticated–everything I always wanted to be.

Unfortunately, my salary barely covered my rent-controlled apartment by the beach and the big-shouldered suits that camouflaged my figure at work. No way could I afford such Madonna-inspired splendor. But thanks to my grandfather, I could swing it for Christmas.

Leslie Lehr pictured on a lifeguard stand (L) and with her ex-husband (R).
    Leslie Lehr

My grandfather, A. L. Levine, was a big art collector. The Picasso and Botero in his Palm Beach cottage were destined for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, for the Atrium that now bears his name. And this dress was art!

I decided to splurge on it and surprise my fiancé before a big New Year’s Eve party. I curled my long hair and layered on lipstick. I was so excited that my hands shook as I zipped up my dress. I felt like a balloon filled to bursting. “Ready?” I called.

When I tiptoed into the living room and twirled around, my fiancé shook his head. “I hate sequins,” he said. I blinked in confusion. I loved sequins. I planned to wear them to get an Oscar one day. How could he not understand this was the real me?

I kept the dress on, but the bubble had burst. We’d met at work in Hollywood, so he saw plenty of sequins. He thought they were tacky. But I didn’t feel tacky; I just didn’t feel as beautiful as before.

At the party, when my fiancé went off to chat with some friends, other men approached. They disagreed with my fiancé; my dress was a hit. I tried to enjoy their compliments, but they didn’t count. I had pledged my heart.

If only I’d paid more attention. When I left to work freelance and started getting screen credits, my husband was proud. He still had more money, though, and that mattered more. When my first novel won an award, he took a job out of the country and couldn’t join me to collect it. He liked me best in my bathroom. He took photos of me baking Christmas cookies with our daughters. Or, rather, decorating them; I used Slice N Bake dough. For another book, I was interviewed on the CNN morning news. He didn’t wake the girls to watch. And somehow, he forgot to record it. I buried the dress deeper and deeper in the closet.

A decade later, my sister asked me to wear the dress to take pictures for her photography class at USC. My husband was happy to help. I dug out the dress and my sister got an A. We sent a copy to my grandfather, who loved it. By now, it was a period piece from the 1980’s. But I never wore that dress again in public. I hung the picture in the hallway and admired it through the glass.

Later, I turned a bedroom into my office. I stored my red dress in the closet with extra supplies. One night, when my husband was home between freelance film jobs, I was on a roll. I kept writing past six, which was when he usually expected dinner.

Then I heard him shouting for me from the kitchen. I turned off the computer and ran in, ready to take over. He turned around from the sink and punched me. “It was an accident,” he said. He didn’t see me standing there. He was an ex-Marine. Had he meant to hit me, I’d be “out cold.”

That was true, I thought, as I lay on the floor where I fell. That’s where the girls found me.

I hid in my office for a few days until the bruising went down, where I came across my dress again in the storage closet. My swollen lip matched the dress for a week. My husband never hit me again, but the party was over.

Five years after that incident, we finally divorced. I should have seen it coming–seen the bright color like a stop sign, a cautionary tale. It’s still my favorite dress–the shiny sequins and the fluffy skirt–and I can still zip it up. There are no tags now to tell who made it, but if there were, I would thank the designer.

But its exuberant appearance is not the only reason why I love the dress. Instead, I keep the dress close as inspiration; every once in a while, I try it on and twirl. The very sight of it makes me smile.

When I look at it now, this dress is more than a red stop sign. This dress reminds me of that girl who wanted so much out of life–and now she’s got it. It reminds me of who I wanted to be, and who I am.

  • I’m Calling It—This J.Crew LBD Will Be at Every Holiday Party From Now Until ’24

I’m Calling It—This J.Crew LBD Will Be at Every Holiday Party From Now Until ’24

As much as I’d like to pretend that it’s still summer, the season’s come to a close once again, and now, it’s time to face the fact that the holidays are approaching at lightning speed. If you want to be more prepared than I usually am when they come around, it’s pivotal that you get started on your gift shopping and outfit shopping too. Fortunately for you and me both, I just stumbled upon what’ll go down in the history books as 2023’s ultimate holiday dress. It’s an LBD so perfect and versatile that there’s no reason I can think of for it not to go completely viral.

The dress in question caught my eye this morning as I was scrolling through the latest drop from J.Crew, which is full of holiday-ready apparel, shoes, and accessories in fabrics like duchess satin, velvet, and tweed. A red, gold, silver, and black color palette really drives the theme home. Of all the hundreds of new arrivals I dug through, the item I fell hardest for was an off-the-shoulder jersey-knit maxi dress with long sleeves and a body-hugging silhouette that could just as easily be worn to a lunch date with the right shoes and bag as it could a black-tie gala. As an added bonus, the off-the-shoulder touch places it right at the top of both fall’s and winter’s trend lists, with everyone from Meghan Markle to Elsa Hosk donning the look and brands such as Khaite, Helsa, The Row, Jacquemus, and Reformation all making it.

Below, see and shop the dress that I’m predicting a major presence of come Thanksgiving and the holidays that follow. While you’re at it, scroll through more of my favorite finds from J.Crew’s new collection
