Where was Vanished filmed?
Vanished was filmed entirely in France. No stand-in cities, no soundstage trickery. Production was primarily based in Marseille, with early scenes shot in Paris.
Executive producer Lourdes Diaz described Marseille as a character in its own right.
“It is the beauty of Marseille. The darkness of Marseille. Marseille has many layers to it,” she told Prime Video.
From sea views and mountainsides to docks and nightclubs, the city’s contrasts feed directly into the show’s tone.
Co-creator Preston Thompson added that Marseille offers both “French Riviera glamour” and “grit and underworld”.

Built in the 19th century, it stands 83 metres high and stretches 375 metres long. It was constructed to carry water from the Durance River to Marseille after devastating droughts and cholera outbreaks.

No. Although flashbacks are set in Jordan, the production never left France.
These scenes were filmed in the French countryside and colour-graded to create the dusty, sun-bleached look.
The end credits confirm the production benefited from France’s tax rebate for international shoots – making it financially sensible to keep everything local.
Why Marseille was a big decision for Kaley Cuoco
For Cuoco, filming abroad was a major step.
After welcoming her first child in 2023, she had scaled back work. Vanished required relocating to France for months.
Speaking to TV Insider, she said it was the first time she had to make a “big decision” as a mum.
“When they first said Marseille, I was like, ‘Do you really need to do that?’ I’ve got a two-year-old. How do I leave?” she said.
Her fiancé encouraged her to take the opportunity – and she’s glad she did.
“I don’t know if I’ll have an opportunity like that again,” she added.
The Game is officially coming back for series 2 on Channel 5 – and yes, that means the chilling showdown between evil killer Patrick Harbottle and retired cop Huw Miller is far from over.
In news that may raise a few eyebrows, the channel has confirmed the hit cat-and-mouse thriller will return despite that deliberately ambiguous series 1 ending. The first run, which aired in May 2025, left viewers with more than a few loose ends. And while Channel 5 thrillers are usually neat, self-contained slices of deliciously daft drama – think The Feud, The Au Pair and The Rumour – this one clearly had more story to tell.

Is there a series 2 of The Game on Channel 5?
Yes – Channel 5 has commissioned a second series of The Game, with Jason Watkins and Robson Green both returning. Even better, filming is already under way, having started on February 20.
Series 1 left plenty unresolved. While it appeared that serial killer Patrick was finally headed for prison, Huw’s fate was much less certain after he was stabbed and left for dead by his long-time nemesis.
The first series introduced viewers to retired detective Huw Miller, still haunted by his failure to catch The Ripton Stalker years earlier. When his seemingly charming new neighbour Patrick casually used the Stalker’s chilling sign-off – “catch you later” – alarm bells rang.
Huw became convinced Patrick and The Ripton Stalker were one and the same. He was right. What followed was a psychological duel that pushed both men to the brink.
Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor of Drama at Channel 5, said: “The Game was one of Channel 5’s top preforming dramas of 2025. And we are delighted to […] bring a second series of this dark thriller to our screens with our brilliant leads Jason Watkins and Robson Green returning.”
What is the plot of The Game series 2?
Series 2 picks up a year after the dramatic events of the first run. Viewers will learn that Huw survived Patrick’s vicious attack and now believes he has finally broken free from the serial killer’s psychological hold, with Patrick ‘safely’ behind bars.
The official synopsis teases: “Retreating with his wife Alice to an isolated house by the sea, Huw is determined to rebuild a quiet life, far from the violence that nearly destroyed them. But peace, he soon realises, is an illusion.”
So if Huw thinks it’s all over, he may want to think again.
Toby Frow returns to direct, with Tom Grieves once again penning the scripts. Rachel Gesua, Senior Executive Producer for Clapperboard, said: “I’m thrilled to be getting the team behind The Game back together. BAFTA-winning Jason Watkins reprises his role as troubled retired detective Huw Miller. Known for Coma, The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies and W1A, he said of his return: “I cannot wait to get started on The Game series 2. Huw has been through the mill and there’s no let-up this series. I’’m excited to get my teeth into what’s ahead for him.”
Robson Green returns as the chilling Patrick Harbottle. The TV favourite, known for Grantchester, Soldier Soldier, Touching Evil, Wire in the Blood and Strike Back, teased: “Stepping back into the world of The Game for series 2 is an exciting challenge. The Game reviews
The first series received mixed reviews, with some viewers highlighting plot holes. However, it was largely well received.
Radio Times described it as: “Tom Grieves has given us a psychological thriller that isn’t so much a whodunnit as a will-they-ever-catch-him. While Green and Watkins as the cat and mouse playing this deadly game have been terrific.”
The Daily Mirror called it: “With a stellar cast and pacy plot, this is a deliciously dark psychological drama.”
The Daily Telegraph praised Watkins’ “compelling everyman quality” and noted “an enjoyably sinister turn from Robson Green.”
Daily Mail said: “Watkins excels at playing the beleaguered everyman.”
The i Paper added: “Jason Watkins is one of Britain’s most prolific character actors… portraying an ordinary bloke unravelling has to be top of the list.”
The Lady, ITV’s drama about Jane Andrews, comes with a soundtrack that’s as bold as its story – including a theme every football fan will instantly recognise.
The four-part series follows Andrews (played by Mia McKenna-Bruce), who swaps retail life for Buckingham Palace when she becomes a dresser to Sarah Ferguson, portrayed by Natalie Dormer.
It charts her rapid ascent into royal circles – and her devastating fall, culminating in her conviction for the murder of Tom Cressman.
Its music choices are very intentional – and there’s more than a few songs in The Lady that you’ll recognise.

Why football fans will clock The Lady soundtrack instantly
Early in episode 1, as Andrews steps into palace life, we hear ‘Zadok the Priest’.
If it sounds familiar, that’s because it directly inspired the UEFA Champions League anthem.
In 1992, composer Tony Britten used George Frideric Handel’s original coronation anthem as the blueprint for the competition’s now-iconic theme.
Handel wrote ‘Zadok the Priest’ for the coronation of King George II in 1727. It has been performed at every British coronation since – including that of King Charles III.
The symbolism in The Lady is hard to miss. As Andrews finds herself immersed in royal ritual and grandeur, the same music used to anoint monarchs plays over her arrival.

The original score was composed by Chris Roe.
While not a household name, Roe has worked across dozens of film and TV projects, including Trigger Point and The Salt Path.

Production on Silent Witness series 30 is underway – and we already know when to expect its release on BBC One.
The long-running BBC crime drama is currently airing series 29, but filming on the milestone 30th season has quietly begun, according to a social media post featuring Emilia Fox.
After recent schedule changes – due to a tragic incident in Birmingham and FA Cup coverage – the series is back on track, and viewers can watch a new episode tonight (February 17).
With the show marking 30 years since its 1996 debut, one thing is clear: Nikki Alexander isn’t going anywhere.

When is Silent Witness series 30 out?
The BBC hasn’t formally confirmed a release date yet, but series 30 is expected to air in January 2026.
In recent years, Silent Witness has settled into a consistent winter slot, with new runs launching between January and February. Series 29’s February start was slightly later than usual, possibly timed to coincide with the show’s February 21, 1996, premiere anniversary.
If that pattern continues, January 2026 is the most likely window for series 30.

Who will return for series 30?
Emilia Fox is expected to reprise her role as Nikki Alexander, alongside David Caves as Jack Hodgson.
The wider Lyell Centre team should also be back, including Maggie Steed as Harriet Maven and Francesca Mills as Kit Brooks.
As always, the series will introduce new guest stars across its cases, following on from series 29’s rotating ensemble.
Where is series 30 filming?
Series 30 is currently filming in Bodenham, Hertfordshire.
More specifically, production has been based at Bodenham Arboretum, a 134-acre botanical garden and nature reserve. The location revealed the news in a Facebook post, teasing the presence of trailers, security, and “cryptic signage” in its car parks.
“Bodenham had the privilege of being chosen as the BBC drama’s ‘Silent Witness’ base camp whilst filming locally for the 30th series,” the post read.
It also confirmed: “The new series will be screened January next year… watch out for the local landmarks.”
Emilia Fox even posed for a photo with staff during filming.
Fans were quick to react. “Wow. Love Silent Witness. Can’t wait to see next year’s episodes,” one wrote, while another added: “Well I never… shall look forward to watching that.”

The BBC adaptation of Lord of the Flies, written by Jack Thorne and based on William Golding’s classic, follows a group of British schoolboys stranded on a remote island after a plane disaster.

The episode opens at an airport. Parents hug their sons goodbye. We briefly see the aircraft: a plane operated by “Corinthian Air”.
It’s fictional, so don’t look for clues there.
On board, there’s no mention of the destination. Within seconds, turbulence hits. The plane starts to plummet, and then we’re back on the island.
In the novel, it’s suggested that the boys were being evacuated during a distant nuclear war. It’s also implied they were being flown somewhere safe in the Pacific.
But that still leaves a huge gap, considering the Pacific spans around 64 million square miles.
Australia? New Zealand? A British territory? We’re never told.

Lord of the Flies fans come up with destination
Golding’s book is set in the 1950s, against the threat of nuclear conflict.
Many readers believe the boys were being evacuated from Britain to somewhere in the southern Hhmisphere.
One Reddit user speculated: “The boys were being evacuated from a school somewhere like Singapore or Hong Kong, on their way to Australia.”
Another added: “It would make sense to evacuate as far as Australia or other British islands in the Pacific.”
There’s also a small clue in the novel. Jack mentions Simon fainted in “Gib” and “Addis” – widely assumed to mean Gibraltar and Addis Ababa. That could suggest a long-haul route heading to the east.

Is there a Vigil series 3?
Good news for fans of Vigil, as there WILL be a series 3. Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie will return as partners DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre.
This time, their new case takes them to a remote Arctic research station. There they must investigate the murder of a member of a covert British special forces mission.
The synopsis tells us: “Amy and Kirsten will need to catch the killer and diffuse a potential international confrontation, driven by a land-grab for energy and resources in the changing polar climate, with both their careers and relationship on the line.”
Writer Tom Edge explained: “In our third season we travel to the frozen north. This is where the world’s great powers are competing to secure advantages as the ice melts.
“With a brilliant cast and crew assembling to make the show, we hope to deliver an epic investigation that shines a light on issues that will shape the world we all live in. This series grapples with the issues that will define tomorrow’s world. These issues include melting ice caps, conflict over resources, energy wars, and lives put at risk in pursuit of peace and profits.”

When’s the start date?
The third series started filming in Scotland and Svalbard in September 2025. Filming has now wrapped.
Series three of Vigil will be coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One later this year. Series one and two can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
Vigil series 1, set on a nuclear submarine called HMS Vigil, aired in August 2021. Series 2 came in December 2023. It saw the detectives investigate when a weapons test turned deadly.
So the Beeb has often made us wait at least two years between series. Although this is probably a result of Suranne and Rose’s busy schedules.
Is Vigil any good?
Well, millions of viewers can’t be wrong, can they? The BBC report that “Vigil is one of the UK’s most successful dramas this decade”.
It was nominated for Best Drama Series at the 2022 BAFTA Television Awards. It went on to win the International Emmy for Best Drama Series.
Series two launched to nearly nine million viewers. It was in the BBC’s top three most watched dramas of the year.
And, of course, the guest cast – which has included Dougray Scott, Adam James, Shaun Evans, and Martin Compston – doesn’t hurt either.

Who returns in the cast of Vigil series 3?
Leading actors Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie will be back as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre to solve another tricky case. Suranne Jones – best known for Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack, and Coronation Street – said: “I can’t wait to return to Vigil series three, see our brilliant team in Scotland and work with Rose again. I’m sure it will be a thrill of a ride.”
Meanwhile, Rose Leslie added: “I can’t wait to get stuck into another season of Vigil, to work with the wonderful Suranne Jones again and our brilliant crew. And this time, Kirsten will get to pack her bags and join Amy on what’s set to be Vigil’s most high-stakes mission yet!”
Rose is famous for playing Ygritte in the acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones. She recently appeared in Miss Austen opposite Keeley Hawes.
The Bay’s Gary Lewis will return to reprise his role as Detective Superintendent Robertson. He’s appeared in all three series of Vigil so far.

Who is new in the cast?
The new cast for the third series includes Derek Riddell – although nothing has been revealed about his character yet. Happy Valley fans will know him as Catherine’s ex-husband Richard Cawood, as well as Richie Gulliver in Crime.
In 2019, he portrayed Chris Brooks in series 5 of Shetland. It’s not the first time Chris has worked with Suranne Jones, either. He portrayed Captain Sutherland in Gentleman Jack.
Steven Miller, who recently played the villain in Dept. Q, has also joined the cast of Vigil series 3.
Other names announced include Norwegian actor Jeppe Beck Laursen, Artificial Breathing star Tornike Gogrichiani, Belgravia: The Next Chapter’s Benjamin Wainwright, and The Old Man’s Artur Zai Barrera are also confirmed.

Where was Vigil series 3 filmed?
In September 2025, the BBC announced that production for the third series was underway in Svalbard and Scotland.
Vigil series 1 was filmed largely in Scotland, with series 2 set in the fictional Middle Eastern country of Wudyan – which was recreated in Morocco.
The upcoming series 3 is being filmed in Svalbard. Previously known as Spitsbergen or Spitzbergen, it’s a frosty Norwegian archipelago that lies at the border of the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.
Jake Lushington, executive producer for World Productions, says: “We are thrilled to be kicking off filming series three of Vigil with Suranne and Rose in the epic arctic landscapes of Svalbard. We welcome our most multi-national cast to date, as well as featuring new and established Scottish talent.”

London-born actress Milly Zero – real name Melissa Jasmine Skye Zero – joins the Call the Midwife cast in episode 5.
Milly, 26, trained at The BRIT School and will be instantly recognisable to soap fans, even if she looks VERY different here as chain-smoking new mum Lana. And don’t expect her character to win you over either – she isn’t particularly kind to poor Sister Julienne.
EastEnders viewers will remember Milly as Dotty Cotton, a role she played from 2019 to 2022 after taking over from Molly Conlin, who portrayed the character between 2008 and 2010.
Dotty arrived as the daughter of villain Nick Cotton, son of long-suffering Dot. Nick famously used his daughter as a partner-in-crime and together they plotted to kill Dot and inherit her money. Milly eventually left the soap after three years in the role.
The actress first appeared on TV as a child star, making her debut aged 13. From 2013 to 2015, she played Hannah Enright in CBBC series All At Sea.
Since leaving Walford in 2022, Milly has made only a handful of TV appearances, including Lisa Gillespie in a 2023 episode of Doctors, playing Kitty in the 2023 short film Better, and a Burns Unit nurse in the Netflix series Too Much.

Luton-born actor Lee Ross, 55, appears as Ivan Barrowman, who reveals he has recently moved back to the area with his family. Sadly, the story takes a tragic turn for them.
Lee has been a familiar face on screen since the 80s, beginning as a child star playing Dodger in Dramarama and spin-off Dodger, Bonzo & the Rest. Manchester-born but London-raised Joanne Howarth plays Mrs Russell, Lana’s neighbour who alerts the midwives after hearing her giving birth alone.
The 65-year-old is well known for her theatre work, particularly with Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, and has a TV career spanning almost 30 years.
Between 2000 and 2001, Joanne starred as Spencer’s mum Sue Hargreaves. Since then, she has appeared in episodes of In Deep, The Bill, EastEnders, Spooks, Casualty, Doctors and It’s a Sin. Call the Midwife marks her first TV role since It’s a Sin in 2021.

The Night Manager series 2 came to a gut-wrenching ending this week, brutally killing off two major characters in a final, high-stakes showdown between good and evil.
The body count climbed fast as Jonathan Pine risked his own life to stop Richard Roper’s deadly plan. Instead, viewers watched in horror as everything unravelled before his bloodshot eyes. Time and again, Richard Roper stayed one step ahead.
The final 10 minutes landed blow after brutal blow. While the ending proved emotionally crushing, it also left the door wide open for a series 3. Here’s the ending of The Night Manager series 2 explained…

What happened in The Night Manager ending?
In the closing moments of the penultimate episode, Mayra Cavendish’s men shot Basil dead after subjecting him to light torture. The final episode then piled shock upon shock, with more deaths following fast.
Viewers learned that Mayra had also ordered the hit on Rex Mayhew. She wasn’t finished there. She still had one more life to take – and as TV deaths go, this one proved particularly hard to watch.
Teddy Dos Santos and Jonathan Pine joined forces to stop Roper’s plan. Teddy finally realised his father had only ever used him and decided to return to the UK without him. Pine wanted to shut down Roper’s operation once and for all – and for him, it had always been personal.
Richard Roper wanted Jonathan Pine’s “head on a stick”, but the outcome proved almost worse. The finale left Pine broken, burdened by multiple deaths on his conscience. The ending delivered twist after twist, and just when it looked like Pine might win, Roper revealed he had already outplayed him.
What was Richard Roper’s plan and did he get away with it?
Richard Roper used his son Teddy’s charity, Aurora, as a front to recruit child soldiers to fight a rebel war in Colombia.
He planned to deliver an electromagnetic weapon – built and funded by the British – to exiled leader José Cabrera. His men would drive the weapon into Medellín during a major festival. Once detonated, it would plunge the city into darkness, cutting power to homes and hospitals, triggering chaos, deaths, and looting.
The public would blame the Colombian government, giving insurgent leader José Cabrera the opportunity to step in with his rebel army to “restore order” – fully funded and backed by Mayra Cavendish.
In the final episode, Teddy turned on his father and tried to sabotage the plan.
The episode focused on Jonathan Pine’s attempt to intercept the plane carrying the weapon. For a moment, it looked like the plan might succeed. Then Pine discovered the truth: Roper had switched the planes. Two aircraft, two very different cargos.

What was Jonathan Pine’s plan?
Teddy and Jonathan devised an elaborate plan. Teddy arrived in the jungle with Pine as his apparent hostage. He told Cabrera and his men that Pine worked for British intelligence and secretly collaborated with Roper.
They used photos of Pine and Roper together, along with doctored phone calls, to convince Cabrera that Roper planned to betray him. Pine then claimed that Roper intended to kill the mercenaries and that the proof lay in the plane never arriving.
Pine’s allies – by this point mainly Sally and the head of Colombia’s supreme court – would intercept the plane carrying the weapon. But Roper anticipated the betrayal.
Distrusting his son, Roper sent a decoy plane. The real aircraft delivered the weapon safely to Cabrera’s forces, exposing Pine’s lies and confirming Roper’s control.
Sally intercepted the dummy plane and found a single red rose inside. The message couldn’t have been clearer.
What happened to Teddy Dos Santos in The Night Manager ending?
With victory secured, Roper committed his most horrifying act yet. He killed his own son.
Before pulling the trigger, Roper told Teddy: “I can forgive your immortal soul. But not your mortal one.”
He then shot Teddy in the forehead, killing him instantly – just as viewers had started to warm to him.
Roper’s true emotional attachment, however, lay with his younger son Danny (Noah Jupe). And Danny became his next destination.

The Night Manager series 2 ending: What happened to Richard Roper?
Flush with cash from his deal with the British government, Trickie Dickie paid off his Syrian debts and fled Colombia.
He returned to the UK and reunited with his son Danny Roper. The moment showed a flicker of humanity, albeit a shallow one, given that his eldest son now lay dead in the jungle.
Roper claimed he had “shed his old skin and grown a new one”. He remained as vile as ever – tan or no tan.
He collected Danny from his expensive private school and whisked him away for the weekend. Thanks to Mayra Cavendish, Roper settled into a lavish Oxfordshire home complete with a pool, tennis courts, and luxuries he had no right to enjoy.
The Night Manager series 2 ending: What happened to Jonathan Pine?
By the end, Jonathan Pine had taken a thorough beating – emotionally and physically. He watched Roper murder Teddy and escape unpunished.
Earlier, Roper had offered Pine a deal: 50 million dollars to walk away and disappear. By the finale, Pine likely regretted turning it down.
Although he escaped Roper and the mercenaries, his future looked bleak. Could he get out of Colombia? And if he did, what kind of relationship would he have left with British intelligence? Very few people remained whom he could trust.

Is Angela Burr dead? Who killed her?
After Basil’s death, Angela Burr stepped up and took charge. From the UK, she pressured Roper’s old associate Sandy into handing over evidence, threatening to send him back to prison for breaching parole.
Sandy talked – but too late. Even with emails linking Mayra Cavendish and arms investor Adam Holywell, Angela couldn’t stop the weapon.
Roper and Mayra won. But Angela knew too much.
In the final moments, viewers saw Angela Burr lying dead, shot in the chest. Her young daughter discovered the body. In the distance, a figure walked away – one that looked very much like Mayra Cavendish.
We need a series 3. And this time, it’s personal. Justice for Angela.
What else happened in The Night Manager ending?
Roper used Roxana as bait to stop Pine, but Pine outmanoeuvred him. Realising Roxana had double-crossed him – under pressure – Roper abandoned her. The series ended with Roxana seemingly heading for a flight to Miami, although viewers never saw her board.
Roper’s plan succeeded. He returned safely to the UK while civil war tore through Colombia following the power outage caused by his weapon. The ending brought triumph for Roper – and devastation for an entire country.
Lynley series 1 wrapped up on an upbeat note, with DI Thomas Lynley and DS Barbara Havers proving they were more than capable of outsmarting Norfolk’s criminals. The cases were cracked, the villains caught – but the ending left viewers with one big question: could this mismatched duo be back for a series 2?
Initially billed as chalk-and-cheese partners, Lynley and Havers turned out to have far more in common than either expected. What began with a bit of frost soon thawed into mutual respect – and even affection. And with the finale leaving plenty unresolved, it certainly felt like their story isn’t over just yet.
So, what exactly went down in the final episode, and what clues did Lynley series 1 leave behind about a possible return?

What happened in Lynley episode 4?
The final episode saw Lynley and Havers investigating the death of homeless teenager Kimmo Thorne, whom Havers had reluctantly arrested for petty theft just a day earlier. Their enquiries led them to a church linked to a local drug gang – but it soon became clear this case ran far deeper.
The trail connected back to an unsolved murder handled years earlier by their now-retiring colleague, DI Horwood. As the pieces fell into place, Lynley and Havers were forced to confront a deeply uncomfortable truth: corruption inside their own station.
Lynley uncovered evidence that his predecessor DI Derek Horwood had been on the take, turning a blind eye to drug gangs for the right price. Worse still, Lynley suspected his own boss, DCI Brian Nies, may also have been complicit.
When a third victim was discovered with the same distinctive wounds as the first two, the team sought expert advice to build a psychological profile of what appeared to be a serial killer.
Meanwhile, long-simmering tensions between Lynley and Nies finally boiled over. Their fractured history came into sharp focus as betrayal and resentment were laid bare.
The finale delivered a genuinely chilling twist. Two murders were carried out by church youth Ryan, who believed he was acting on divine instruction – described as “a mind corrupted by religious fantasies”. He then abducted Lynley’s girlfriend Helen in a desperate attempt to draw the DI into a trap.
The final shock? The third murder was committed by Professor Hamish Milne of Norfolk University – the very man Lynley and Havers had turned to for guidance on the earlier killings.
Did DI Thomas Lynley end up with Helen?
In the closing stretch of the series, Lynley’s personal life finally took centre stage. Having reconnected in episode two, he and Helen quickly slipped into an intimate relationship – but not without some frank conversations.
In episode four, the pair discussed where things were heading. Over an evening meet-up, Helen laid her cards on the table, telling Lynley she needed to understand what she was signing up for if they were going to keep seeing each other.
Lynley admitted relationships didn’t come easily to him, prompting Helen to raise the awkward but necessary topic of commitment. Her blunt honesty caught him off guard, but his response was equally revealing: he wasn’t seeing anyone else and liked the idea of something serious.

Lynley series 2: Did they stay together?
Sadly, any hopes of a lasting romance were short-lived. After becoming collateral damage in Lynley’s latest case, Helen was forced to face a harsh reality. Even after Lynley saved her life, she admitted she couldn’t continue.
She told him that his dangerous world was something she couldn’t share, explaining that while she cared deeply for him, she couldn’t fall in love with someone who lived with such constant risk.
The series ended with Helen needing space, leaving Lynley once again alone – another personal sacrifice in a life already marked by distance from his family. Viewers know his father is the Earl of Asherton, but Lynley has long rejected taking on that role.
What was the history between Nies and Lynley?
BBC One described DCI Brian Nies as “clever, analytical, and politically astute” – but his dislike of Lynley was unmistakable. Rooted in class insecurity and old professional wounds, Nies resented Lynley’s presence from the start.
Earlier episodes showed Nies attempting to drive a wedge between Lynley and Havers, but Havers proved far too sharp to be played. It also emerged that Lynley and Nies had worked together years earlier at the Met, and their partnership had ended badly.
When Lynley suggested Nies may have known about Horwood’s corruption, things turned ugly. Their explosive confrontation forced old betrayals into the open, with Nies accusing Lynley of undermining his authority.
Despite itching to suspend him, Nies was forced into an uneasy truce, eventually conceding one grudging truth: Lynley got results.

What is a CHIS?
Anyone familiar with Line of Duty will already know the term. CHIS stands for Covert Human Intelligence Source – essentially an informant used by police to gather information on serious crime.
In Lynley, DI Derek Horwood had a CHIS feeding him intelligence on local drug operations. Not all informants volunteer, and some are pressured into cooperating in exchange for leniency.
On the streets, of course, a CHIS has a far simpler name: a grass.
Lynley series 2: What happened to Lynley’s brother?
One of the quiet emotional threads of the series was the shared grief between Lynley and Havers. Both lost their brothers, a bond that helped cement their partnership.
Lynley revealed his brother had died too, admitting he struggled to talk about it. Fans of the books will know that Thomas’ younger brother Peter battled drug addiction, though this has yet to be explored onscreen.
Havers’ loss, meanwhile, was more clearly defined – her brother died from cancer.

Is there a series 2 of Lynley?
So far, neither BritBox nor BBC One have confirmed a second series. But with so many threads left dangling, the ending certainly didn’t feel final.
The contemporary reimagining draws from Elizabeth George’s best-selling novels – and there’s no shortage of material left to adapt. The original Inspector Lynley Mysteries ran from 2001 to 2008, clocking up six series and 24 episodes.
With a built-in fanbase and plenty more stories to tell, the potential for Lynley series 2 is very much there.

Here, the series was embraced as cosy crime comfort viewing: a handsome lead detective, a growing partnership, and picturesque locations that made Monday nights feel a little softer. Lynley and Havers won viewers over, and many would happily welcome them back.
Critics were more mixed. The Guardian called it “the ultimate undemanding telly”, while The Independent praised it as “a great comeback for the detective show” despite reservations about performances and scripts. Radio Times highlighted its “old-school charm”.
Audience reactions were similarly divided, with some unimpressed by the production style, while others defended it as old-fashioned fun. For every detractor, there was a viewer enjoying its straightforward storytelling – and hoping it gets another run.
Tensions escalate between Scarlett Thomas and Adam Thomas’ characters in tonight’s episode of Waterloo Road – with violent consequences.
It was a big start to the new series for Izzy (played by Scarlett, the niece of the Emmerdale star). After a brief fling with Ben Drake, she kissed frenemy Cat Guthrie.

However, episode 3 marks a dark downturn for Izzy and Donte’s relationship, with one fight scene leaving fans shocked.

Izzy hurts Donte in shocking Waterloo Road fight with Scarlett and Adam Thomas
In episode 3 (airing tonight, January 13), Izzy asks Donte if she can go to Ibiza with Aleena and Lois. Donte is reluctant, given that Izzy is only 16 and shouldn’t be going to clubs.
However, after she loses her temper, he agrees to speak with the girls before making his decision.
Unfortunately, from his conversation with them, it’s clear that Aleena and Lois don’t want her there if it means they can’t go clubbing.
Later that day, Izzy shouts at Donte and blames him. He says she can go on holiday with her friends in the future, but she says she doesn’t have any other friends.
She shoves him into the lockers and storms out. When Donte tries to stop her from leaving, she kicks the door into his face and leaves him with a cut on his face and a black eye.
Izzy eventually apologises. Towards the end of the episode, she runs away to go to see her aunt Mika, but Donte finds her and she agrees to try family therapy.
Waterloo Road fans divided after Izzy hits Donte
It’s safe to say, most fans haven’t been sympathetic to Izzy after the new episode.
“Only on episode 3 and my GOD, Izzy is so annoying! Coming from someone who lost a parent as a teenager, she has no reason to be shoving her only parents head into a door,” one viewer wrote on Reddit.
“Yeah she was bang out of order with Donte this past season and he’s been so lenient cause he himself is lost too,” another commented.
Another fan praised Scarlett’s performance, writing: “Yeah I think they all need therapy and hopefully they got it off screen. The acting from her so good though.”
Other fans have argued that it makes sense that Izzy lashing out; after all, she’s a teenager who lost her mum.
“Izzy is genuinely acting out because of a bunch of grief and trauma and who knows what else going through her head,” one user wrote.
“People deal with grief differently btw,” another fan pointed out.

Who is Richard Roper in The Night Manager?
Hugh Laurie’s Richard ‘Dickie’ Onslow Roper – aka “the worst man in the world” – was a smiling assassin. Beneath the charming facade and the expensive suits, he was an arms dealer utterly devoid of conscience. His motivations were simple: power and profit. The only crack in the armour seemed to be his son Daniel.
Series 2 has subsequently revealed another son from a different chapter of Roper’s life. Teddy Dos Santos was born from a relationship with a Mexican woman during Roper’s youth.
Back in series 1, former soldier turned hotel manager Jonathan Pine was recruited by British intelligence to infiltrate Roper’s operation. Against the odds, Pine helped dismantle the arms dealer’s empire.
But Roper never made it to justice. After Operation Limpit officers arrested him, furious Syrian criminals took matters into their own hands, hijacking the police van and driving off into the desert. Watching it disappear, Angela Burr summed it up perfectly: “He deserved it.”
Is Richard Roper dead?
Fast forward four years to The Night Manager episode 1, and viewers watched Jonathan Pine and Angela Burr in Syria identifying what they were told was Richard Roper’s body. We were informed he’d been executed – though, tellingly, no visible injuries were shown.
Despite Hugh Laurie’s brief appearance as the lifeless Roper, most viewers assumed that was the end of the character. Episode 3 proved just how wrong we were.

Is Gilberto Hanson really Richard Roper?
In episode 3, Jonathan Pine edged closer to Teddy Dos Santos. It soon became clear that Teddy wasn’t acting alone, with whispers of another powerful figure lurking in the background: Gilberto Hanson.
Jonathan uncovered intelligence describing Hanson as a “terrifying local arms dealer whose reach extends to the heart of London’s intelligence community”. Digging deeper, Pine’s team discovered Hanson was officially listed as having died years earlier in a helicopter crash.
When Teddy arranged a meeting with Hanson, Jonathan followed – expecting answers. What he got instead was a huge bombshell, as well as a lot more questions. Posing as Gilberto Hanson was none other than Richard Roper, standing there in the flesh. Alive, with a rather glowing tan replacing his previously-seen deathly pallor.
The Night Manager episode 3: How can Richard Roper be alive?
One possibility is that Richard Roper bribed Syrian officials to convince British intelligence he was dead. Far more unsettling, though, is the idea that his “death” was a cover story approved by British intelligence themselves.
That second option feels worryingly plausible. It suggests Angela Burr may have deliberately misled Jonathan Pine. Painful as that idea is, episode 4 may finally give us some answers.
The series 2 trailer hints at a furious confrontation between Jonathan and Angela, in which Jonathan accuses Angela of lying to him. She replied: “I had no choice. This is our chance. To nail the London investors, the politicians, the whole rotten bunch.”
There’s also a chance Roper cut a deal with British intelligence to save himself from the Syrians. Could he now be helping to bring down his own son? It seems unlikely, but he is capable of betraying his own flesh and blood.

What else happened in The Night Manager episode 2?
We started to see cracks in Teddy’s smooth armour, with hints of mental health struggles. Daddy issues, perhaps?
We learnt that Teddy is “creating an army” – men for hire.
Viewers also discovered the shipment Pine was tracking was being used to smuggle under-the-counter weapons into Britain.
And the tension between Jonathan and Roxana ramped up, with a near-kiss derailed by Sally arriving with urgent news.
Channel 5’s new thriller The Imposter has landed just in time for cosy nights on the sofa, but after episode one, we’re all asking more questions about Amanda.
The four-part drama began tonight (Monday, December 15), introducing us to Helen O’Riley, the formidable general manager of a vast seaside hotel. She’s close to her three grown-up children – Simon, Kate and Ian – but there’s a long-buried secret she’s never shared with them. The show wastes no time whisking viewers off to sun-soaked Australia with a dark twist lurking beneath the surface.
Years earlier, before her family life ever began, Helen gave up her first child for adoption in the UK. Now, in The Imposter, a woman named Amanda suddenly appears claiming to be that lost daughter. Lonely and vulnerable, Helen is quick to believe she’s finally found the missing piece of her life. But viewers are left asking the big question – is Amanda really telling the truth?
According to Channel 5, things soon take a sinister turn. A teaser promises that “the lucrative hotel is the ultimate prize”, as a carefully laid plan descends into betrayal – and, ultimately, murder.

The Imposter episode 1: 5 Clues Amanda isn’t who she says she is
In episode 1 of The Imposter, viewers saw the dynamic between matriarch Helen and her children, who all worked in the family hotel in a Melbourne beachside suburb.
However, Helen’s not getting any younger and a diagnosis of advanced macular degeneration (AMD) means she won’t be able to run the hotel indefinitely. And what chance does she have of her passing the responsibility to her kids? Helen believes that eldest son Simon is lazy and can’t be trusted. While Kate and Ian are dedicated, Helen disapproves of their husbands, Todd and Lee. Real estate agent Todd wants the hotel sold, while Lee has a history of recreational drug taking.
So what convenient timing it is when Helen’s secret daughter Amanda turns up in Australia, looking for her real mum. Turns out Helen wrote to her a year earlier, but never heard back. Suddenly the daughter, Amanda, appears out of the blue… Red flag anyone?
Clue one: The show is called The Imposter
Well pardon us for stating for the obvious, but the show is called The Imposter. Now if that isn’t a pretty huge clue as to ‘Amanda’s’ real identity, then we don’t know what is.

Clue 2 after The Imposter episode 1: ‘Amanda’ is too good to be true
‘Amanda’ has turned up in Melbourne with nothing but compassion and love for her newfound ‘mum’. But surely there might be some residual resentment at having been abandoned decades ago? Especially as Helen went on to have three more children, whom she bought up, and still sees on a daily basis.
Instead, Kym Marsh’s character seems too nice, too forgiving, and too invested in worming her way into her mum’s life. If Helen doesn’t smell a rat, then her children sure do. Or at least Kate and Ian, who seem to want the best for their mum. Which brings us neatly to Simon…
Clue 3: ‘Amanda’ is in a relationship with ‘half-brother’ Simon
The biggest clue of all is that Amanda, who really is beginning to look a lot like someone else, is having a sexual relationship with her so-called half-brother Simon. In the closing scenes of The Imposter episode 1, Amanda and Simon locked themselves in a hotel room and started having passionate sex.
Either they are trying to recreate the sickening incest story from Brookside in 1996, or they aren’t related at all. The pair are clearly in cahoots. And we suspect Helen’s money is the prize.
Interesting that Simon was the only one of Helen’s children to demand a DNA test, too. Something tells us the results will be faked.

Clue 4: The timing
The timing of Amanda’s arrival sure seemed convenient. After years of no contact, why has she chosen to arrive now that Helen is becoming elderly and might have to sell the hotel?
We know that Helen’s greedy kids want her to sell, but Helen is against the lucrative deals they’ve been offered. Helen’s son-in-law Todd, aka Kate’s real estate agent husband, is also under pressure to secure a commission. Meanwhile, Simon is just a loser with no ambition, and Ian wants a loan to pay a surrogate to carry his child. The hotel is worth AUD 30 million (£15 million).
Looks like everyone wants a slice of Helen’s money pie, so the arrival of Helen’s angelic long lost daughter seems all too coincidental.
Clue 5: The appearance of Dannii Minogue’s character
Lastly, at the end of The Imposter episode 1, we saw a sneak peak of the upcoming episode – and crucially the appearance of Dannii Minogue’s as yet unnamed character. Doesn’t take a genius to guess she might well be the REAL Amanda. Scream!
We also saw the fake Amanda telling Simon: “It’s all a game babe. You keep doing your bit, and I’ll keep doing mine.”

‘She is the worst character I’ve played so far’
In fact, Kym Marsh’s character is actually called Claire. She’s pretending to be Amanda in order to get her hands on Helen’s money.
Talking about her role in The Imposter, the actress said: “I’ve played some dark characters, but I do think with Amanda/Claire it’s the way she goes about everything with all her trickery. She is probably up there as the worst I’ve played so far.
“I just knew this was going to be fun to play. There is so much depth to her. Clearly, bad things have happened in her life to make her the way that she is. What I really loved is that the script wasn’t that typical moustache twiddling, Scooby Doo-esque villain. She is much more complex than that.”
Talking about her character’s reasons for worming her way in to Helen’s affections, Kym explained: “Amanda/Claire has turned up and she’s the daughter that Helen always wanted to have. Her way in is becoming Helen’s friend and ally. She just sides with Helen on a lot of things and is very understanding.”
Claire and Simon ‘hatched a cunning plan to sure up both their futures’
So who is the fake Amanda really? Well, Claire was born and raised in the UK. She’s a survivor “by any means possible”.
Channel 5 describe her as “wily and resourceful”. Claire’s had to overcome a lot in her 40-something life, including a grim upbringing, thorny relationships, and failed dreams. Now, she believes that life owes her something, and is always trying to better her situation – even if she has to cross moral lines to get there.
We’re told: “Eight months ago, Claire was between jobs and working as a receptionist in an adoption agency in the UK. One quiet afternoon, an Australian man named Simon walked into the agency, seeking information about a child – now a grown woman – who his mother put up for adoption over four decades ago. The pair got talking, then went for lunch, which soon turned into dinner, and a week-long sexy tryst in a hotel room. Tortured souls and kindred spirits, they hatched a cunning plan to sure up both their futures.”
Claire subsequently arrives in Australia pretending to be Amanda, the long-lost daughter of Helen, Simon’s mother. It’s her most brazen grab for a better life yet…
When is The Imposter next on?
The Imposter is being stripped across the week on Channel 5, making it ideal binge-worthy viewing if you’re already hooked.
The four-part thriller kicked off on Monday, December 15, 2025, with the opening episode airing at 9pm. Episode 2 follows the very next night on Tuesday, December 16, again at 9pm on Channel 5.
Things continue to ramp up in episode 3, which airs on Wednesday, December 17 at 9pm. And if you’re keen to see how it all ends, you won’t have long to wait – the final episode lands on Thursday, December 18 at 9pm on Channel 5.
Shetland series 10 continued on BBC One this week, and episode 2 delivered another round of twists, secrets and simmering tension in Lunniswick.
The episode picked up from last week’s shocking cliffhanger, when Lana Muir set fire to Eadie Tulloch’s house. In Wednesday’s instalment (November 12), DI Ruth Calder and DI Tosh got to work unravelling her motives – and what she might be hiding.
Lana’s decision not only wiped out crucial evidence linked to Eadie’s murder but also hinted that she knew far more about who wanted the elderly woman dead.

Shetland series 10 episode 2 recap: Why did Lana set fire to Eadie’s house?
At the beginning of the episode, Calder and Tosh took Lana Muir in for questioning after she set fire to Eadie’s house. We’ve been told that Lana is suffering from dementia, but perhaps she isn’t quite as confused as we’ve been led to believe…
Did she, in fact, know what she was doing? During questioning, Lana described Eadie as a “force of nature”, and admitted they’d been friends before she died.
But she later said something much more revealing. Talking about Eadie’s death, Lana told the detectives: “You reap what you sow. She was always nosing into other people’s business.”
When Calder and Tosh pressed Lana further, asking if Eadie had ever “hurt someone”, Lana said: “That’s all behind us now. Some things are best left to lie.”
However, “vulnerable adult” Lana soon became distressed. This led to Procurator Fiscal Matt Blake (Samuel Anderson in the cast) warning the detectives that they couldn’t question her again.
So did Eadie have enemies, and was Lana one of them? We later found out that Lana and Eadie had been “close” friends – “kin not blood”. But something – or someone in this case – came between them. More on that below.
What happened to Eadie’s son Craig?
Eadie’s son – and Ed’s brother – Craig died in the infamous storm that devastated Lunniswick in the early 2000s. It killed several locals Lana and Arthur’s son Ally, too.
Both Craig and Ally “died young” during the storm while working on a fishing boat called The Linty. The boat sank during the turbulence.
Lana was a “positive and warm person” until the tragic loss of her son over two decades ago. The tragedy left Lana overwhelmed with grief.
At this stage, it’s unclear if the storm has anything to do with Eadie’s death. However it was the reason Eadie and her son Ed were estranged. He told Ashley: “It’s what started the rift between me and mum. I could never live up to Craig.”

Who are Amy and Stevie Shannon in Shetland series 10?
Sergeant Billy McCabe’s wife Morag used to work with the victim, Eadie Tulloch, in Shetland social services. And she pointed Tosh to a possible person to interest in Eadie’s death – a person called Amy Shannon.
Amy Shannon was an old case of Eadie’s. Eadie had recommended that Amy and her sister Stevie be removed from their birth mum who, according to the files, was neglectful. Amy is now suing social services. Morag described Amy as “angry” and “looking for someone to blame”. But enough to commit murder?
Amy was adopted in Shetland, and became a teacher. She now has a flat in Lerwick with a partner, and their child. Her sister Stevie ended up on the mainland and was bought up in Aberdeen. The sisters didn’t see each other for years. Long story short, as a social worker, Eadie’s work often made her unpopular…
When Tosh visited Amy and her sister Stevie, Amy told her the reason for their complaint. She said: “A few months after we were removed, our mum died, and they split us up. Stevie’s been through four different foster families, and two children’s homes.”
Tosh “got a weird vibe from Stevie” and so, quite frankly, did we. We later discovered that Stevie had a bit of a “disturbing” history… There were concerns that she’d been “manipulating other children” in her care homes, turning them against once another, and “encouraging them to run away with her”.
In the episode, someone called social services on Amy Shannon and her husband – but who?
Shetland series 10 episode 2 recap: Arthur became a new suspect
Arthur became prime suspect in episode 2 of Shetland series 10. When Tosh and Calder finally got to interview Lana again, she became agitated at her husband Arthur. She said: “I know what happened to Eadie. It was terrible what Arthur did. You’ve got a temper on you Arthur.”
Did Arthur kill Eadie and Lana burnt her house down to cover his tracks? Turns out that Arthur and Eadie had had an affair, but he “ended it for good” as soon as Lana was diagnosed with dementia “five years back”.
Another vital piece of information he’d kept from the police was that he visited Eadie on the night she died. He’d dropped around some food and whisky and they “drank, ate, and chatted”. However he insisted they had “just the one dram”, but the quantity found in her stomach contradicted that.
The autopsy showed that Eadie had a “skinful” of whisky in her belly when she died and was likely drunk, which explained why she hadn’t fought back. Even weirder when you consider that Eadie didn’t drink. According to Colin Waite anyway. As Di Ruth Calder put it: “Our 76-year-old victim was paralytic at the time of her murder.”
However, Arthur insisted that when he’d left her, Eadie was fine. He had gone home and spent the rest of the evening with his wife and family.
Tosh believed the affair, while reason enough for Lana to set Eadie’s house on fire, wasn’t a “motive”, but more like “a defence”. They let Arthur go – for now.

Shetland series 10 episode 2 recap: What is Hayley’s secret?
Hayley was clearly hiding a secret in episode 2 of Shetland series 1o. Chris accused her of “sneaking around” and constantly “checking her phone”. Not only that we also found our she had a secret phone. While she insisted it was because she runs two restaurants, the truth came out eventually.
In fact, Hayley admitted she was in “deep shit”. She said: “That’s why I bought us here. The restaurant’s got into debt and I’ve done something stupid. Now I have to do exactly what I’m told or we’re in danger. All of us.”
Hayley Burnett had a huge bag full of heroin, which she had to hand over to a dealer. After that, they’d be “free”. Allegedly. Is any of this related to Eadie’s murder or just a side-plot? All will be revealed in the coming episodes.
Arthur and Eadie’s affair. It turns out Arthur and Eadie were more than just old friends. He even admitted to visiting her on the night she died, raising serious questions about what really happened before the blaze.
Eadie’s whisky mystery. When Eadie’s autopsy revealed high levels of whisky in her system, Ruth and Tosh were left wondering why she suddenly started drinking after Arthur left.
Hayley’s dangerous deal. Hayley Burnett’s presence in Shetland took a dark turn when it emerged she’d brought a bag full of heroin to the island. She’s being blackmailed by ruthless moneylenders she once borrowed from – and it’s clear they’ll stop at nothing.
A long-standing grudge. Amy and Stevie Shannon’s history with social worker Eadie was far from friendly. The pair clearly held a grudge, putting them firmly in the frame for having a motive.
A tragic shared past. In a heartbreaking twist, both Lana and Eadie lost sons in the devastating storm of the early 2000s. The question now is whether that shared tragedy has anything to do with Eadie’s shocking death.

Crazy Family Dynamics
Imagine the most dysfunctional family and multiply it tenfold. That’s how chaotic and scandalous the Sun Clan in Lucky Seed is. Starting from the way the late Big Boss Sun grew his company at the expense of other people, one of which was his close friend and business partner. Then we get to his children and their strained relationships caused by betrayal, blackmail, and constantly butting heads: Roses, Iris, George, and Hyacinth. The next generation of Suns (April, Wayward, Isaac, Felicia, and Lola) mostly tolerate or ignore one another, though some of their resentment has been brewing in recent years. Now with a multi-billion dollar trust on the line, everyone vies for their shot at producing a son who will ultimately inherit it.
It Keeps You Guessing
We were somehow able to predict a few of the plot twists in Lucky Seed (not to brag or anything). But the secrets and surprises never seem to end with the Sun Clan. Like what does a murder investigation in Hong Kong have to do with Roses’s fortune teller? Or who gains the most from spying on the Sun Clan and planning their demise? Some of the shady dealings between family members and secret conversations we become privy to are so unexpected. Yet they are all interconnected to the main drama: and that’s how each of the Sun cousins finds a way to inherit the family fortune. We especially love getting the added perspective of the family dog, Houyi, who is ultimately a hero in his own right.
The Cathartic Ending
Whew, we had to take a few breaks reading through the ending of Lucky Seed because the consecutive big reveals kept wailing on us. We fast forward through each of the respective pregnancies (we won’t spoil who to keep the element of surprise). In a much-anticipated family reunion at a baby shower, everyone’s secrets and schemes come to light. Characters we once rooted for turn into the villains of the story. Long-missing relatives show their hand in manipulating the Sun Clan. We were so scared for the fate of a few characters. But suffice it to say that everyone gets the ending they deserve. Slowly but surely, most of the siblings’ relationships and parent-child relationships are on the mend. And the future of the Sun family is as bright as ever.

The Night Manager made a huge impact when it landed on BBC One in 2016 – yes, nine years ago! – so it’s very exciting to share the news it’s coming back any day now with a series 2.
Like Happy Valley, Line of Duty, The White Lotus and Broadchurch, The Night Manager was THE television show everyone was talking about that year. But, no offence to the others, it had a touch of class.
That was largely down to the impeccable, A-list heavy cast, led by Marvel antihero Tom Hiddleston as former British intelligence operative, Jonathan Pine.

Is there a series 2 of The Night Manager?
Series 2 of The Night Manager is coming soon, nine years after the ridiculously successful series 1 of the BBC One drama. The BBC and Prime Video have now unveiled the first-look images for the much-anticipated new episodes. And it looks epic!
Series 1 aired in 2016, and its explosive finale was watched by more than 10 million viewers in the UK alone.
Now, the central cast return, with Loki legend Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as former British intelligence operative, Jonathan Pine.
The Night Manager series two is created and executive produced by David Farr, based on the characters created by John le Carré.

What’s the plot?
The upcoming series 2 of The Night Manager “expands the story beyond the source material of the titular novel for the first time”.
While series 1 stayed faithful to the John le Carré novel of the same name, which was published in 1993, series 2 moves the plot along.
We catch up with Jonathan Pine who is now living as Alex Goodwin in London. Alex is a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London… His life is now comfortingly uneventful and he believes he’s “buried his past”.
However, one night, a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action. It leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos.
The synopsis tells us: “On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños, a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army.
“As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late.”

Who is in the cast?
The Night Manager wouldn’t be the same without the cool Tom Hiddleston as cool as a cucumber Jonathan Pine. Of course, Marvel fans will know Tom as Thor’s little bro Loki, but he’s famous for his multiple leading roles in film, theatre, and TV. Other highlights include The Essex Serpent, Kong: Skull Island, and The Life of Chuck.
It was The Night Manager series 1 that really helped make the actor into the global star he is now.
Also set to return are National Treasure Olivia Colman as Angela Burr. She’s known for being in everything brilliant, including Fleabag, Peep Show, The Crown, Broadchurch, and The Bear. We could go on, but we’d get blisters on our fingers.
Sex Education’s Alistair Petrie reprises his role as Sandy Langbourne, opposite The Great’s Douglas Hodge as Rex Mayhew, Traces’ Michael Nardone as Frisky, and A Quiet Place’s Noah Jupe as Daniel Roper. Sadly, early reports suggest that Hugh Laurie will not be returning as Richard Roper.
Of course, in series 1, Richard Roper was the main antagonist. He was arrested by Egyptian police after his arms deal was sabotaged by Jonathan Pine. Pine had swapped his weapons for fake ones…. Other main characters like Elizabeth Debicki’s Jed and Tom Hollander’s Lance met grisly ends.
Series two will also incude several new cast members. These include:

Where was The Night Manager filmed?
The new series of The Night Manager was filmed across various glamorous locations in the UK, Spain, Colombia and France.
The stunning locations were one part of the appeal of series 1. The acclaimed first series was nominated for more than 30 awards and won multiple BAFTAs, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globes – including Best Actor for Tom Hiddleston.
Commissioned by the BBC, in was one of 2016’s most-watched TV shows in the UK.
When is the start date? How many episodes?
The Night Manager series 2 will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, and on Prime Video later this year.
Although the Beeb and Prime Video have not yet confirmed an exact date, we have a feeling it will be sooner rather than later.
It will be six episodes of one hour each, and series 1 is currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Summary:Mona Mashad grew up on camera, with millions of fans around the world tuning in to see her every move. Nothing was off-limits: not her first pimple, her first crush, and definitely not the death of her father, Mashad family patriarch and the best dad ever, Ali.
After more than a decade on screen, Mona has discovered the key to being the most famous teenager on the planet: never let your guard down and never give your heart away (because if it breaks, the whole world will know).
But she didn’t expect to meet Lucas Sterling, notorious heartthrob and only son of Jordana Sterling, the beloved President of the United States. Lucas sweeps Mona off her feet—he literally saves her when she falls down the stairs at the Met Gala—and for just one second Mona wants to let her walls come down. So, it hurts a lot when he betrays her, and even more when their moms demand they pretend to keep dating to appease their respective fan bases.
Normally, a fake relationship would be manageable for Mona. After all, she’s used to playing a part for the camera. Flirty Banter & Romantic Tension
We, along with most people on BookTok, love to read banter between two characters. It’s the way into our hearts, and we immediately fell in love with Seeing Stars because of Lucas and Mona’s banter. We could feel the chemistry from their very first meeting. And even though Lucas has to make up for a lot during their fake relationship, he’s relentless in pursuing Mona. He’s also self-assured and effortlessly charming, and Mona held out on him a lot longer than we would’ve if we were her.
Second-Lead Syndrome
As with any good love triangle, Seeing Stars gives us the ultimate second-lead syndrome. Kai, AKA Hot Surfer, is a respectful, down-to-earth guy that gives Mona a taste of a normal teenage life. He’s easy to talk to and so earnest. Their surfing lessons are so intimate and brimming with tension of what could happen if either of them admitted their budding feelings. We were so stuck between Kai and Lucas and rooted for them both at one point. Alas, this novel is not a “why choose?” story.
The Confessionals
Another one of our favorite things about Seeing Stars is reading the filmed confessionals that are a staple to reality TV shows. These scenes take us out of the main story to get an in-depth look at each character’s reactions and thoughts on the events as we read about them. It adds a very meta layer to this novel. We especially love seeing Mona and Lucas’s differing opinions at various stages of their fake relationship. While Lucas was ready to be all in, Mona was still in denial.
From flirty banter and fake dating to falling for the first (and second) lead, Candice Jalili’s Seeing Stars might be one of our favorite books this year!

The Rumour on Channel 5 ending explained
In the five-part Channel 5 thriller, Joanna arrived in Flinstead with her son, Alfie, eager for a fresh start. But when she ‘accidentally’ started a rumour about a child killer living in the town, things took a dark turn.
We discovered that a convicted child killer called Sally McGowan was potentially living in the village under a new identity. And, as suspicion spread, Joanna became increasingly certain of who the real Sally was – but she was wrong every time.
In fact, the real Sally McGowan had been under the nose all along… In episode 5 of The Rumour, Joanna reeled from the truth she’d discovered at the end of the previous episode, while her mum Bea faced the fallout – her past as Sally McGowan was about to be exposed, and with it, the threat of a killer closing in.
A synopsis of the finale told us: “Joanna discovers Rachel has taken Alfie. Desperate, she tracks them to a derelict house, where Rachel demands Bea’s confession. Flames erupt, chaos ensues, and Joanna seizes the moment to escape with Alfie. The next day, the town is buzzing with blame as Joanna, Michael, and Alfie pack up to start again.”

The Rumour Channel 5 ending: Who was Sally McGowan?
We found out at the end of the penultimate episode that Joanna’s mum Bea was the real Sally McGowan – a convicted child killer. As a 10-year-old child, Sally had murdered five-year-old Robbie Harris and been convicted to (a rather measly) 10 years imprisonment. Understandably, Joanna was devastated to discover her “whole life had been a lie”. In fact, her real name was Lucy.
Furious, Joanna called her mum a “monster” and told her “you should never have had me”, adding: “You had no right.” Not prepared to hear her out, she also told Bea that she’d never see her grandchild Alfie again.
The truth was that there had been no fire which had destroyed their family home and all personal belongings therein. In fact, Joanna’s dad had found out who Bea really was. That meant that mother and daughter had had to change their identities and move on again.
In the final episode, Joanna tried to come to terms with the shocking revelation. As she packed to leave Flinstead and her mum behind, she knew there was another killer on the loose. Whoever killed Sonia and attempted to gas Kay was actually trying to kill Sally McGowan. So Bea’s life was in serious danger… Could Joanna really leave her mum to that fate?

Who killed Sonia and tried to gas Kay to death?
During The Rumour ending on Channel 5, we discovered – as some of us had suspected – that prison warden Rachel wasn’t as sweet and friendly as she’d appeared to be. She’d certainly been very keen to get Joanna on side, hadn’t she? And Rachel asked a LOT of questions… Red flag, anyone?!
Rachel was in fact the daughter of Marie Harris. As in, the mum of Robbie Harris, the boy Sally McGowan had murdered when she was also a child. So Rachel was in fact Robbie’s sister.
So no prizes whatsoever for guessing that Rachel was the person who killed Sonia, which she described as “an honest mistake”. Rachel believed Sonia was Sally McGowan. She later tried to kill Kay, for the same reason. And, as we soon found out, she didn’t stop there.
Meanwhile, Bea knew that whoever killed Sonia was getting closer to finding out her real identity. She knew she would have to move on again, before the Flinstead vigilante discovered who she was. However, she didn’t have time for that before Rachel made her move.
The Rumour ending on Channel 5: Rachel kidnapped Alfie
In the gripping – and often preposterous – season finale, Rachel abducted Joanna’s son Alfie. Of course, she often looked after her so-called friend’s son while she was working.
Once she had Alfie in her clutches, Rachel called Bea to arrange a meeting. And she had one clear motive in mind – revenge for her brother Robbie’s death.
By this point, Rachel was borderline hysterical (more than usual anyway), which was understandable in the circumstances. But Bea seemed remarkably calm. It was as if she knew her past had finally caught up with her, and she had to face the music – if it meant saving her grandson.
Rachel was in the abandoned house on the crescent. That’s where she had a sedated Alfie. The poor boy lay unconscious on a blanket soaked with petrol – and Rachel had a lighter which could have blown the wooden structure sky high.
During the tense denouement, Rachel explained how her grief-stricken mother had looked for Sally McGowan for years. And had even come close once, until they moved her on. Rachel took over the search when her mum Marie got sick.
She also revealed the sad truth that she’d been born to compensate for Robbie’s death – a “replacement that never managed to fill the void”. It also explained why she’d gone into prison work – in an attempt to find another guard who’d known Sally. Truth be told, Rachel’s whole life had been shaped by the death of the brother she’d never even met. It was a shame, but not an excuse for what she went on to do.

The Rumour ending on Channel 5: How did Rachel find Sally McGowan?
During her work as a prison guard, Rachel got lucky one day. Ridiculously lucky one might say. She heard the name of the town Flinstead used in connection to Sally McGowan. And that’s why she and her mum moved to the village.
Of course, she had to kill Sonia and harm Kay before she discovered Bea was in fact Sally McGowan. Although we never quite found out how Rachel discovered Bea’s real identity as the convicted child killer.
So what did Rachel want? Well, she wanted the “truth” about her brother’s death. Rachel wanted to know “everything Sally didn’t tell the court”.
What happened in the series finale?
While held captive by Rachel (Lucy Speed in The Rumour cast], Bea pled her case. She told her captor: “I went to jail Rachel. I served my sentence.”
She went on to say: “Marie has poisoned your mind. It’s your life you’ll be throwing away if you do this.”
But Rachel was intent on getting her revenge via a full confession from Bea/Sally. After that, she expected Bea to light up the derelict house in what she hoped would look like a suicide. Of course, all this time, the life of unconscious Alfie was in Bea’s hands.
As Rachel set up the camera to film Bea’s confession, Joanna was on her way to the house after a tip off from Fatima. Luckily, she’d seen Rachel’s car outside the building after one of her rendezvous with Stephen.

Was Sally ‘evil’? Why did she really kill Robbie?
Rachel turned up just as Bea was being forced to film her confession. So was she “evil” and a “monster”? Well, that’s up to you to decide…
We heard her say: “That day I knew what I was going to do. It wasn’t anything Robbie did. I just picked him because he was small. He was always hanging around, wanting to play with the older kids. I knew he was weak, and he wouldn’t fight back.
“I waited until the other kids had run off to the swings, and I told Robbie to stay behind with me. Of course, he did. He would have done anything I told him to. I took him to the old house at the end of our street. We held hands. I promised him a lolly when we got there.”
She added: “I had a knife that I had taken from the kitchen at home. I had to sharpen it on a rock. I’d seen someone on the telly do it. I never told the police that; only the lawyers. And they made sure the police never heard it, because it would have looked bad for me if they did.”
Frankly, at this point, Bea was looking and sounding every bit like a killer. While Rachel became more and more distressed as she listened. All while Rachel crept up from behind.
Bea continued: “He looked so surprised, that’s what I remember the most. As if he couldn’t really believe this was happening. But it was so easy. I remember I liked the feeling of it.”
Yep, it was grim. And so different from the mild-mannered Bea we thought we know. As for why she decidedly to kill the boy, she didn’t explain.
What happened to Bea and Joanna in the final episode?
As Bea made her shocking confession, Rachel became more and more upset and angry. As Bea made the rather horrible admission that she’d “liked the feeling” of stabbing Robbie, Rachel lost control. She lunged for Bea, with Joanna just behind her. All the while, Rachel had the lighter in her hand.
Amidst a tense scuffle between the three women, the lit Zippo fell to the ground setting the petrol-soaked carpet alight.
The wooden building caught fire immediately. In the struggle, Bea walloped Rachel over the head with something hard, and tried to focus on getting Joanna and Alfie out of the burning building. But it wasn’t long before Rachel reared her revenge-seeking head again, and grappled Bea down. All while Joanna seemed dumbstruck by the fire and unable to move.
Luckily, just in time, Joanna came to her senses and leapt to save her son Alfie. She managed to carry her son to safety. Meanwhile, both Bea/Sally and Rachel were left in the burning blaze. At first, we assumed that both Bea and Rachel had died. But this wasn’t actually the case.
In the closing minutes of the series, Joanna left Flinstead with her son Alfie and husband Michael. In the final scenes, Alfie was seen in the back of his parents’ car opening a letter. Inside was a painting of a robin (Alfie’s favourite bird), and a message signed ‘Nana’. The next scene was Bea and Liz walking arm in arm across a bridge together – with Bea very much alive!

What else happened in the The Rumour ending on Channel 5?
Debbie discovered that her husband Stephen was cheating AGAIN. This time with her friend Fatima. Anybody see the appeal? Nope, us neither! Debbie and Stephen split up, with Fatima ostracised from the friendship group.
Rachel was presumed dead. But, if Bea could escape, surely Rachel could have?
Although Joanna worried that she might have her mum’s killer genes, Michael reassured her that she was “more than just her mum’s daughter”.
Will there be a series 2 of The Rumour?
Channel 5 has not confirmed whether there’ll be a potential series 2 of The Rumour. But there were plenty of loose ends dangling.
Channel 5 thrillers like The Inheritance, The Game, and The Feud are usually stand-alone series, with no sequels. But there’s no reason at all why The Rumour couldn’t return.
After all, viewers did not learn Rachel’s fate, while Joanna had no idea her mum was still alive. Would Sally, now presumably living under a new identity, ever be able to live her life without looking over her shoulder?
As well as a continuation of Joanna’s story, The Rumour also has the potential to be an anthology like The Teacher. After all, there’s a rumour in every village, town and city in the world…

The Dazzling Drama
With 16 young women vying for the same prize, there’s bound to be drama. Luckily, we get all the details from both Piper and Chapin’s sides. Even thrust into a new world of glitz and glam, Piper is a natural in front of the camera. Her down-to-earth personality makes her the most favored to win, despite her poor background. On the other hand, Chapin has it all: wealth, fame, and the world at her fingertips. Everything except her mom’s approval. She’s willing to resort to underhanded tactics to outshine everyone, especially Piper.
Piper’s Budding Romance
Paris is the City of Love, after all! By Invitation Only has the sweetest romance between Piper and her cavalier Dalton, who also happens to be Chapin’s older brother. (How’s that for fueling the drama?) They have so much in common and often nerd out with each other. Dalton shows Piper all his favorite spots in Paris, including the Louvre. Even so, Piper can’t risk pursuing a relationship with Dalton without risking her position at La Danse and possibly her whole future.
Piper And Chapin’s Friendship
We knew these girls would warm up to each other eventually! Despite Chapin’s attempt to sabotage Piper and the rocky start to their acquaintance, the two of them bond over their common goals and reasons for being at La Danse. Chapin helps Piper with her wardrobe. Piper helps Chapin from being ambushed in an interview. They are great listeners and eventually build a trust so strong not even a last-minute scandal can break it. We’re so glad they both get to follow their dreams in the end, in a much better position than when they first met.
