  • Florida Man Accused of Hacking Disney World Menus, Changing Font to Wingdings

Florida Man Accused of Hacking Disney World Menus, Changing Font to Wingdings

    [ad_1]

With just days to go until the 2024 presidential election in the United States, WIRED reported on documents that revealed US government assessments about multiple components of election security and stability. First obtained by the national security transparency nonprofit Property of the People, one report distributed by the US Department of Homeland Security in October assessed that financially motivated cybercriminals and ideologically motivated hacktivists are more likely than state-backed hackers to attack US election infrastructure. Another government memo warned of the risk to the election of insider threats, noting that such internal malfeasance “could derail or jeopardize a fair and transparent election process.”

With so much at stake in a hyper-polarized and combative climate, US elections have become increasingly militarized, with bulletproof glass, drones, defensive blockades, and snipers protecting election offices, and election officials bracing for the possibility of violent attacks. A WIRED investigation also revealed a successful CIA hack of Venezuela’s military payroll system that was part of a clandestine Trump administration effort to overthrow the country’s autocratic president, Nicolás Maduro.

In other cybersecurity news, WIRED did a deep dive into the firewall vendor Sophos’ five-year turf war to try to remove Chinese hackers running espionage operations on some vulnerable devices—and keep them out. And researchers warn that a “critical” zero-click vulnerability in a default photo app on Synology network-attached storage devices could be exploited by hackers to steal data or infiltrate networks.

As always, there’s more. Each week, we round up the security and privacy news we didn’t cover in depth ourselves. Click the headlines to read the full stories. And stay safe out there.

A Disney employee who was fired from the company and still had access to its passwords allegedly hacked into the software used by Walt Disney World’s restaurants, according to reporting by 404 Media and Court Watch. A criminal complaint against Michael Scheuer claims he repeatedly accessed the third-party menu-creation system created for Disney and changed menus, including changing fonts to Windings—the font made up entirely of symbols.

“The fonts were renamed by the threat actor to maintain the name of the original font, but the actual characters appeared as symbols,” the criminal complaint says. “As a result of this change, all of the menus within the database were unusable because the font changes propagated throughout the database.”

The allegations aren’t limited to whimsical font vandalism, however. The federal complaint also details how Scheuer allegedly changed menu listings to say that foods with peanuts in them were safe for people with allergies, tried to log into Disney employees’ accounts, locked 14 employees out of their accounts by trying to log in with an automated script, and maintained a folder of personal information about employees and turned up at one person’s home. A lawyer representing Scheuer did not comment on the allegations.

For the past few years, infostealers have become a popular tool of choice for hackers, from cybercriminals trying to make money to sophisticated nation state groups. The malware, which is often bundled into pirated software, uses web browsers to collect usernames and passwords, cookies, financial information, and other data you enter into your computer. This week, cops around the world took down the Redline infostealer, which has been used to grab more than 170 million pieces of information and has been linked to large-scale hacks. An almost identical infostealer called Meta was also disrupted. As part of Operation Magnus, US officials identified Russian national Maxim Rudometov as being behind the development of Redline. As TechCrunch reports, Rudometov was identified following a series of operational security errors, including reusing online handles and emails across social media apps and other websites. In its criminal complaint, the US Department of Justice pointed out Rudometov’s dating profile, which apparently has “liked” 89 other users and received no likes in return.

In January 2018, it emerged that GPS data from running and cycling app Strava could expose secret military locations and the movements of people exercising around them. Officials warned that it was a clear security risk. Years later, many seemingly haven’t paid attention. French newspaper Le Monde has revealed in a series of stories that US Secret Service agents are leaking their data through the fitness app, allowing the movements of Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and Kamala Harris to be tracked. Security staff linked to French president Emmanuel Macron and Russian president Vladimir Putin are similarly exposing their movements. Those exposing their data used public profiles and often posted runs starting or finishing at the locations they were staying during official trips. Included in the leaks were bodyguards linked to Putin who were running near a palace the Russian leader has denied owning.

Italian prosecutors placed four people under house arrest and revealed they are investigating at least 60 others after an intelligence firm in the country allegedly hacked government databases and gathered information on more than 800,000 people. Intelligence company Equalize allegedly gathered information about some of Italy’s most prominent politicians, entrepreneurs, and sports stars, Politico reported. It is alleged that the information accessed included bank transactions, police investigations, and more. The hacked information was reportedly sold or potentially used as part of extortion attempts, with those behind the scheme allegedly earning €3.1 million. The scandal, which has enraged Italian politicians, may also be wider than just its impact in Italy, with the latest reports suggesting Equalize counted Israeli intelligence and the Vatican as clients.

  • Dare I say it? Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe … back on track?

Dare I say it? Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe … back on track?

    [ad_1]

It’s an odd feeling, this. After months—years, even—of uncertainty surrounding the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Avengers: Endgame’s saga-defining finale, it finally feels like things are back on track.

Despite a few hits since Endgame’s $3 billion theatrical run, like WandaVision, Loki, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, much of the MCU’s output has floundered, slightly directionless, under the burden of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. While the Multiverse Saga was expected to open up infinite possibilities for the MCU, something else happened instead. Every movie and show was hyped up to be multiverse-defining, but they rarely were, and for a long time, there seemed to be no end in sight.

Almost every new movie and Disney+ show introduced a new multiversal concept: portals, incursions, the sacred timeline, branched timelines, variants, the TVA, nexus events, nexus beings, absolute points, the void—all of these terms mean something slightly different, and yet they are all supposed to work in tandem with one another, providing ways to make sense of the mess that is the multiverse. Something had to give.

Marvel Studios needed to take control of its narrative; it had to figure out what it wanted the Marvel Television Disney+ shows to be, it needed to take a step back and re-evaluate its movie output, and it had to figure out a way to create a coherent, interconnected narrative once more. That’s not an easy task, made all the more difficult by the studio’s broken relationship with Kang actor Jonathan Majors, but I don’t know … somehow, it feels like the MCU may have finally found a way forward, one that is somewhat less reliant on the multiverse without throwing it away entirely.

Let’s start with the MCU’s recent Disney+ featurette. Featuring new and extensive looks at upcoming live-action shows like Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, and Wonder Man, there’s a real sense of coherence. These shows are wholly their own thing. Sure, they’ll reference the larger goings-on in the MCU (you can spot Kamala Khan’s father in the Daredevil footage, for instance), but they’ll largely be self-contained stories, the same way Agatha All Along is.

The biggest problem with previous Disney+ Marvel shows, like Secret Invasion and yes, even Loki, is that they were too insistent on exploring world- and multiverse-ending threats when the chances of those threats ever really being followed up on was minimal. What Agatha, Daredevil, Ironheart, and even Wonder Man all seem to have in common is the belief that not everything that the MCU makes, especially for Disney+, must impact the wider universe. They can be character studies, and explorations of new corners of the MCU, without forcing the general audience to watch them to understand the films. A behind-the-scenes look, if you will, rather than the main event. Hopefully, Marvel will keep this new trend going.

When it comes to the movie side of the business, I must admit, it’s been a long time since I felt this excited about it. Deadpool & Wolverine was a rousing success, both at the box office and storytelling-wise, and the upcoming slate feels like the MCU of old, but with a new twist. Sam Wilson’s Captain America is deservedly making the jump from the small screen to the big screen, the Thunderbolts* trailer was surprisingly awesome, Fantastic Four will be a breath of fresh air, and even Avengers: Doomsday, despite RDJ’s controversial casting as Dr. Doom, feels like a (safe) return to form, with the Russo bros. back at the helm. The news that Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man outing landed Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is incredibly exciting, too. It feels like we really have something to look forward to.

Of course, there are still some issues, like Blade’s infinite delays or Marvel’s reluctance to confirm anything about Shang-Chi 2, but at least that means it’s not announcing or throwing out projects at random, hoping that something sticks. What the MCU needed most of all after the Infinity Saga was a solid vision of what it wanted and needed to be, a balance of Earth-bound stories and multiversal ones that change our favorite characters’ lives, for better and for worse. Right now, it feels like the MCU has managed to find that balance. Let’s just hope they maintain it.

  • Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’s David Henrie Reveals How a ‘Tragic Incident’ Forced Justin Russo to ‘Walk Away From It All’

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’s David Henrie Reveals How a ‘Tragic Incident’ Forced Justin Russo to ‘Walk Away From It All’

    [ad_1]

Growing up as a kid in the 2000s meant running home from school and tuning into whatever show that was playing on Disney Channel. One of those shows that shaped many of our childhoods was none other than the iconic and magical Wizards of Waverly Place. And now the characters we all know and love are back with new crazy shenanigans in Disney+ reboot Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

In the original show, Alex (Selena Gomez) was not a typical lead who saved the day and knew exactly what to do. She made mistakes and at times, could be too stubborn for her own good. Despite her laidback attitude, Alex’s mischievous adventures made us feel like we were unstoppable. Her funny dynamics with her siblings were more than relatable with Justin (David Henrie) as the smart, trustworthy kind of uptight eldest sibling, Alex, as the middle child with a rebellious spirit, and Max (Jake T. Austin) as the funny and a bit dumb younger brother. Family was the heart and essence of the show. No matter the intensity of their fights or how much trouble they were in, they all loved each other and had each other’s backs in their times of need. David Henrie even coined this specific bond the “Russo family values.”

Fast forward 12 years, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place makes it clear that everything is going to be “anything but a breeze” for Justin Russo—who is now a middle school Vice Principal in Staten Island. The new series follows Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a strong young wizard— who with the help of Alex— barges in Justin’s mundane life with his two boys, Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko), and his wife Giada (Mimi Gianopulos). Alex, in an attempt to help Billie after she’s been kicked out of WizTech, has positioned Justin to be her new wizard teacher. There is no one Alex trusts more than Justin to take on such a responsibility but problems arise as Justin may not have been totally honest with his family about his past. This new situation inspires him to resume his life as a wizard, pulling him out of retirement and forcing him to face the mistakes he’s made in the past. However, Billie’s exuberant personality may be more similar to Alex’s than Justin had anticipated.

David Henrie shared that Billie has grown up differently than the Russo’s and is not used to the Russo family values at all which is going to create a very fun and interesting dynamic on screen. Billie’s character opens up a whole new world of relatability for new viewers and representation that was so dear to me as a young Latina when watching Alex and the rest of the Russos in Wizards of Waverly Place

There were also certain moments in the new show that original fans may love. When StyleCaster mentioned mannerisms or lines that David Henrie and his co-star Selena Gomez had in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place that resembled their younger selves, Henrie said “Thank you. We worked hard on that!” It is clear that there is much love and effort going into this age of magic so this new series could be what we’ve all “wanted in our wildest dreams.”

Wizards of Waverly Place has always had such a unique cultural impact, and I remember the episode with Shakira and Selena as a significant moment for me, because it was a time where I felt really represented on TV.  Given that Justin is half Mexican and half Italian, will we see more of that Latino or Italian heritage explored in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

That’s a great question. I think we did so many things to represent our Mexican heritage on the show, with the quinceanera episode and others that I think we’re really meaningful to folks. My character married Giada, who is Italian. In real life, she’s Greek, but she’s Italian in the show so I guess our kids would be like, three quarters Italian and a quarter Mexican. We got a spicy mix, don’t we? That’s some good food right there. I think we definitely want to explore that. We haven’t yet, but I’d imagine we will, because it is a part of our blood. I would imagine in Mexico, there are cool wizard sites for us to see or check out, which we’ve never done before. I don’t know why we haven’t done that.

We definitely should do that, but right now we’re really focusing on this new element in this character of Billie. She is an incredible talent, by the way, and she’s a new mix to the Russo bunch. So if you’re familiar with the Russo values, themes and feelings we bring in a character who contrasts that, who doesn’t understand that at all, and has not known stability or family or what those things can do in your life, so she’s mistrusting of us. So it really is a nice engine to kind of reactivate the themes of the world. And you know, Janice is African American, so we’re representing another demographic on the show in a nice way. So we really are following in the mold of the old but kind of in a new way.

In the first episode, it’s revealed that Billie is destined to save the world–what was going through Justin’s head when Alex tells him he has to train Billie?

You know, I call the first season for Justin of this new show, like his rebirth. Because when you meet him, his family knows nothing about him. They don’t know anything about his magical past. They don’t know anything–that he was a wizard or his past at WizTech or any of that stuff. So when you meet Justin, you’re going, “What happened? Why? How? Huh?” which I love. Throughout the first season, we reveal that there was this kind of tragic incident in the past that caused Justin to walk away from it all, and Billie rebirths this past for him, and it’s welcomed to him, because I think he never felt settled in what happened. He wants to welcome that old piece of him back into his life, and he wants to be upfront and honest with his family, so she really does reawaken a lot inside of him that I think is a very healthy thing for his character.

In the original series, wizards are born with magic but they need to wear something to control it before their powers fully develop at age 12. Now that Justin is Billie’s teacher and his sons, Milo and Roman, are learning that magic exists, will the series explore their own abilities as it progresses? Did Justin have them wear anything to help manage their magic as they grew up?

Ooh, that’s a good question. I think you’re gonna have to watch and see what happens, because I think you’re smart and you’re asking the right questions, and you’ll have to watch and see what happens.

Justin is now a vice principal at a middle school, which is a shift from the high school setting of the original series. Was there a specific reason behind choosing a middle school setting this time around?

Our characters are a little younger, so I think we’re factoring that into the equation. I’m sure as they get older, we’ll probably figure out a way to expand it or change it. But by the way, did you catch the name of the new school? It’s called Greenwald Middle School, and that’s the name of the creator of the show, Todd Greenwald, from back in the day. So we named the school after the creator of Wizards of Waverly Place.

I saw you posted this week with Greg Sulkin who played Mason (in the original show). What can you tell me about that?

Yeah, Greg got to come and visit. Since we started the show, Greg has become and remains a very good friend of mine. I spent a lot of time with him, and he was in town. He was back from London. I was like, “Dude, you got to come check out the set.” So he came and visited and saw it all, and he was just smiling the whole time reliving the memories.

Well, I would love to have every character back on the show, it’s just about doing it right. I want the care that we put into the first episode with me and Alex to be put into every character that comes back, so that way it doesn’t feel cheap. You know, I think the worst thing we could do is just throw someone in there, and then fans will feel like we didn’t understand how much they care about these people. So we want to do it tastefully every step of the way.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premieres on October 29 on Disney Channel and will stream on Disney + the next day.

Disney announces when it will replace CEO Bob Iger

    [ad_1]

The Walt Disney Co. isn’t prepared to say who will succeed CEO Bob Iger, but the entertainment giant is at least indicating when it will announce who is to replace the company’s respected chief executive.

Disney said Monday it will disclose Iger’s replacement in early 2026.

Relatedly, Disney’s board of directors also named Morgan Stanley executive chairman and former CEO James Gorman its new board chairman, effective January 2, 2025. Gorman will step down at Morgan Stanley before assuming his new duties as Disney’s  chairman. He will replace Mark Parker, executive chairman of Nike.

“The Disney Board has benefited tremendously from James Gorman’s expertise and guidance, and we are lucky to have him as our next Chairman – particularly as the board continues to move forward with the succession process,” said Iger, who left Disney in 2020 before returning in 2022, in a statement. “I’m extremely grateful to Mark Parker for his many years of board service and leadership, which have been so valuable to this company and its shareholders, and to me as CEO.”

Gorman said the process to pick a new Disney CEO is ongoing.

“A critical priority before us is to appoint a new CEO, which we now expect to announce in early 2026. This timing reflects the progress the Succession Planning Committee and the board are making, and will allow ample time for a successful transition before the conclusion of Bob Iger’s contract in December 2026,” he said in a statement.

Iger was Disney’s public face for 15 years, compiling a string of victories lauded in the entertainment industry and by Disney fans, before he retired in 2020. But he returned to lead the company two years ago after it fired Bob Chapek as CEO.

In his latest stint at the helm, Iger has moved to slash costs and restructure Disney’s business, including cutting 7,000 jobs. In 2024, he also staved off a challenge from activist investor Nelson Peltz, who had mounted a proxy fight to win a seat on Disney’s board.

    Wait, Chris Pratt???
    Photo: Paul Abell/Netflix

New York Comic Con is officially underway, and with it comes the promise of big, big trailers for big, big nerds everywhere. And since “fans of nerd content” came to mean “everyone” over the last decade, it’s hard to overstate how big these trailers can get. Netflix fired the first shot, teasing the Russo brothers–helmed Electric State adaptation, and HBO increased the buzz for The Penguin with a mid-season trailer. Below, the latest trailers, updating all throughout the weekend.

Peyton List returns as Maddie for the second season of School Spirits— she’s still stuck in the after life and trying to figure out the reason for her disappearance on the other side.

The Russo brothers’ upcoming Netflix movie The Electric State, starring populist favorites Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, just released its first trailer. Based on a graphic novel of the same name, the film debuts March 14 on Netflix.

No, for those of you confused, The Penguin is not currently off the air, nor is the season randomly done after only four episodes. Max decided to drop a mid-season trailer for a little intrigue. New episodes will continue to air on Sundays.

Dune: Prophecy’s first official trailer debuted during a panel with star Emily Watson, and, boy, is it filled with ominous statements. “The Imperium is fragile,” they say. “This endangers everything,” they also say. “The Imperium is a circus of fear and rumor.” Enter a sisterhood with a plan. The prequel premieres November 17 on Max.

Two of our best actors with the curliest heads of hair star in Wolf Man, out January 17. Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott play a married couple with a daughter, and the film follows as Abbott gets infected with werewolf-ism. Rawr. The film is out January 17.

Starz shared the Outlander mid-season trailer, and they are going home to Scotland! The second half of the season will include another eight episodes, same as the first half, and, as always, will star Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan. The first half of the season ended on August 11, and the second half begins again on November 22.

  • Disney World’s New Line-Skipping Pass Costs Up To $450 A Day Per Person

Disney World’s New Line-Skipping Pass Costs Up To $450 A Day Per Person

    [ad_1]

Disney has announced a new way to skip the lines at its parks. But depending on where you go and when, you might have to spend over $400 a day per person to take advantage of the new Lightning Lane Premier Pass.

On Wednesday, Disney announced its plans to roll out a new tier of Lightning Lane, a pre-existing program that lets visitors pay extra to skip the lines for certain rides in Disney World and Disneyland. Previously, Lightning Lane Multi Passes, which let you skip the line on multiple rides, cost $32 a day per person, though the price could increase for various reasons. These passes forced guests to select a time to arrive for their “line skip,” which could cause problems if you were late. This newly announced tier of line skipping, Premier Pass, does away with that restriction, but at a steep cost.

As spotted by GameSpot, the new “Premier” pass—which will be available later this month—will cost up to $450 a day per person at Disney World. The price varies depending on the park and when you go, with Disney saying that the highest prices will be found on a “limited number of days over peak travel periods.”

Here are the prices for each park, but keep in mind that you still need to buy a ticket to the park, and at Disney World, only folks staying in Disney World hotels on property will be eligible to buy these new, limited passes.

    • Disney’s Animal Kingdom: $129 to $199
    • EPCOT: $169 to $249
    • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $269 to $349
    • Magic Kingdom: $329 to $449

Meanwhile, at Disneyland, the Premier pass will cost $400 per person until December 31. In 2025, the pass will drop to $300 to $400 a day per person, based on what dates you visit.

In 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the massive company had been “too aggressive” about increasing prices at the parks and wanted to make them more “accessible.” This, uh, doesn’t seem like a good way to do that. And sure, you can argue that people don’t need to buy these passes, that they can just wait in line, but ride queues can get quite long and waiting sucks. Besides, the big appeal of Disney World and Disneyland is the rides! And making it more expensive to actually enjoy them seems like the opposite of making your parks more accessible to more people.

    [ad_1]

Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, two major theme parks in Orlando, are preparing to close as Florida braces for Hurricane Milton to hit as a major storm.

Disney said it would shutter its theme parks and Disney Springs entertainment complex in phases beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and will “likely” remain closed on Thursday. “We will consider opening Disney Springs on Thursday in the late afternoon, with limited offerings,” Disney said on its website, adding that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom has been canceled on Thursday.

Universal said it would cease operation of its theme parks and City Walk at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and stay closed on Thursday. “We anticipate a full reopening of our destination, including Halloween Horror Nights, on Friday, Oct. 11 at our normal operating hours pending the outcome of storm impacts,” according to the park’s website.

SeaWorld Orlando also announced its closure on Wednesday and Thursday.

“We continue to closely monitor the path of Hurricane Milton,” a spokesperson for Disney said in a statement. “Please know these adjustments have been made in order to leave plenty of time for our Guests and Cast Members to return to their Resort hotels or homes safely hours before higher winds are expected to reach Central Florida.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, Milton was a Category 4 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, per the National Hurricane Center. The storm has sustained winds of 155 miles per hour and is expected to make landfall Wednesday on Florida’s west coast.

Disney rarely suspends operation of its theme parks, other than recent major hurricanes, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Sept. 11 attacks. October is busy for the amusement parks because of Halloween-related events like Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights and Disney’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

  • DeSantis Uses Hurricane To Damage Marijuana Initiative

DeSantis Uses Hurricane To Damage Marijuana Initiative

    [ad_1]

A second hurricane is less than 2 weeks is barreling down on Florida – the governor sees it as a chance to hurt the marijuana initiative

Hurricane Helene hit the Florida Big Bend causing havoc all the way to North Carolina with over 200 dead and thousands homeless.  Now,Hurricane Milton hast targeted the Tampa area and, in a rarity, grown from a tropical storm to a category 5 storm in a matter of days. While people are prepping and worrying, DeSantis uses hurricane to damage marijuana initiative.

RELATED: Is New York Finally Getting Its Marijuana Act Together

Hurricane Milton strengthened to a powerhouse Monday, driving sustained winds of 180 mph as it headed to the Sunshine State. Tampa, Orlando and St. Petersburg are three of of 5 largest population centers and are targeted by the storm. With people either planning evacuation or prepping their home for the massive storm, DeSantis sees an advantage. The Governor has decided to not extend the voter registration deadline. He has stated there’s “nothing inhibiting” unregistered voters from registering ahead of the deadline. At the same time he is urging residents on the populated west coast to heed evacuation orders ahead of Hurricane Milton’s expected landfall on Wednesday.

    as it

DeSantis has been concerned about the recreational marijuana initiative as public support and backing have been huge.  The Governor has made it clear the voters are “confused” and “should leave decisions to him” around marijuana. He worked hard to block medical marijuana, but it passed with 71% of the states voters. He has worked hard to stop this one also, but with lackluster success.  The PAC he encouraged to fight it has raised less than $20 million versus the pro group which has raised over $100 million.  Even AARP has joined the fight with research seniors (a significant voter population in Florida) has accepted and starting consuming not just for fun but for chronic pain, inflammation, insomnia and more.

With back to back storms, voting rights groups shared  the current situation has the highest impact on residents who just moved to Florida or eligible voters who just turned 18 and likely haven’t registered. To show the concern over Hurricane Milton, Disney is considering closing, which has only happened 8 times previously in its history. Six times for a hurricane, 9/11 and Covid…and potential a 9th with Milton.

  • Mapping the Marvel Universe in 6 Very Cool Charts

Mapping the Marvel Universe in 6 Very Cool Charts

    [ad_1]

Mapping the Marvel universe is not the kind of thing one can do just by snapping their fingers.

For starters, there are many Earths out there in the multiverse; there are also all kinds of mystical dimensions and other weird locations. But even on just one version of Earth there are many points of interest, from the hometowns of fan-favorite heroes to fictional nations that exist only in comic books. Trying to find every Marvel-ous hangout in New York City? Fuggedaboutit.

Still, for his latest book of cool charts, that’s exactly what Tim Leong did: map the Marvel universe. For his new book, Marvel Super Graphic, Leong made a diagram of mystical planes, an illustration of the proximity of Kamala Khan’s New Jersey residence to Moon Girl’s Lower East Side lab, and even a Mean Girls–esque illustration of who-sits-where in the Empire State University cafeteria.

But that’s just the beginning. Leong—who, full disclosure, once served as WIRED’s design director—filled Marvel Super Graphic with charts and graphics about many aspects of the Marvel comic book universe. Check out some geographically-focused highlights from the book above.

‘Heard the same words’: ‘X-Men 97’s Beau DeMayo alleges he faced Disney’s ‘less gay’ policy

    [ad_1]

Beau DeMayo continues to talk about Disney on social media. DeMayo, who was reportedly fired from X-Men ’97 due to sexual misconduct, has been doubling down on his tweets about his former employer. Now, he claims he was told to make his animated X-Men series “less gay.”

Rumors began to circulate that Disney told Pixar to make Riley’s character in Inside Out 2 “less gay.” Those online began criticizing the company and questioning why they were catering to people who would ask this of their films. DeMayo claims that X-Men ’97 got the same note. “Heard the same words ‘less gay’ on X-Men ’97 when it came to Magnus and Xavier, as well as marketing,” he wrote on X.

In another post, DeMayo also claimed that Disney forced Magneto to wear briefs in a scene where he is being tied up. According to the former creator, he stated that Magneto was naked until changes needed to be made. “Originally, he was nude and the beat played as dehumanizing torture. It was Marvel’s idea to put him in briefs. The crew and I were so beaten down by that point we just gave each other looks, knowing their note would do the opposite. Such is ignorance … “

The scene in question, according to DeMayo, was about two men looking at each other with brotherly solidarity. “True, but when they start misinterpreting two males exchanging a look of brotherly solidarity before battle as ‘too gay’ and one execs favorite word ‘creepy,’ there’s an issue.”

DeMayo has been just tweeting things without a response

In August, Disney released a statement about DeMayo’s firing when it was announced that he’d no longer get credit on the second season of the show. “Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2023 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.”

Since then, DeMayo has been posting about the company and its MCU plans. He claimed that the original script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was very different from what we got with Michael Waldron’s take on the story, and now he is connecting X-Men ’97 to the reported Pixar claim.

Disney has yet to say another word about DeMayo’s firing but some rumors do not paint DeMayo in the best light. Whether or not he actually got that note from Disney or this is part of a larger takedown of the company, we can’t say for certain.

  • Jared Leto Went by Ares on Set of Tron: Ares, Says Jeff Bridges

Jared Leto Went by Ares on Set of Tron: Ares, Says Jeff Bridges

    [ad_1]

Jared Leto is known for his method-acting ways when working on films, and that extends to the recently finished Tron: Ares, according to co-star Jeff Bridges.

Speaking during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Literally! With Rob Lowe, Bridges talked about meeting Leto for the first time, and how he was told that Leto was already going by his character — Ares — name instead of his own.

What did Bridges say about Leto’s method acting?

“I hadn’t met him before. I’m saying, ‘What’s it gonna be like?’ because he was also a producer of the show, big fan of the original, working on it for 10 years. I came in, and you know how each set has a different vibe?” Bridges said. “There was an interesting vibe on this. I said, ‘How’s Jared? How’s he working?’ ‘He’s all right. You know, we call him Ares, you know, so he goes by his name,’ and I said, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.’”

Alongside Leto and Bridges (the latter of whom is reprising his role as Kevin Flynn), Tron: Ares also stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.

Tron: Ares will be the third official feature film in Disney’s Tron franchise following 1982’s Tron and 2010’s Tron: Legacy. The film is directed by Joachim Rønning, who previously made 2019’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and 2024’s Young Woman and the Sea. He also co-directed 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales with Espen Sandberg.

Production on the new Tron movie officially wrapped in May 2024. Rønning wrote in an Instagram post at the time, “Thanks to an incredible and tireless crew, I really believe we pushed the filmmaking limits on this movie. Even through six weeks of night shoots you never slowed down. Also, a big thank you to our wonderful cast for leaving everything on screen. I can’t wait to show the world what we’ve done.”

Tron: Ares will be released in United States theaters and IMAX on October 10, 2025, from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

DirecTV, Disney fail to reach deal

DirecTV customers lose access to Disney, ESPN channels amid contract dispute

    01:45

DirecTV and the Walt Disney company have reached an agreement in principle, returning Disney’s channels to DirecTV consumers.

The parties are still working to finalize a new, multi-year contract, according to a joint news release on Saturday from the two companies. The channels, including ESPN, Disney, ABC stations and streaming services including Hulu, been immediately restored.

The channels have been dark for millions of DirecTV customers since Sept. 1. DirecTV has 11.3 million customers, CBS News previously reported.

The dispute focused on the carriage fees that DirecTV pays to Disney. DirecTV accused Disney of “taking an anti-consumer approach” by demanding a new deal include bundled services. DirecTV said that it wants to allow customers to choose from smaller bundles of networks when subscribing, so they can lower their costs.

As part of the core agreement agreed to by both parties, Disney’s streaming services Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ will be included in select DirecTV packages. DirecTV will continue to carry Disney’s entertainment, sports and news programs.

“Through this first-of-its-kind collaboration, DIRECTV and Disney are giving customers the ability to tailor their video experience through more flexible options,” the companies said in a joint statement. “DIRECTV and Disney have a long-standing history of connecting consumers to the best entertainment, and this agreement furthers that commitment by recognizing both the tremendous value of Disney’s content and the evolving preferences of DIRECTV’s customers. We’d like to thank all affected viewers for their patience and are pleased to restore Disney’s entire portfolio of networks in time for college football and the Emmy Awards this weekend.”

    $30 Credit for DirecTV Subscribers

ABC, ESPN, and other Disney channels haven’t been available to DirecTV subscribers since September 1, 2024.

The two companies have been in a contract dispute over the terms and fees associated with distributing Disney’s channels. Disney says that DirecTV is undervaluing its channels, while DirecTV says that Disney’s terms aren’t offering it enough flexibility to create different packages for customers.

In the meantime, DirecTV customers have missed out on coverage of the presidential debate, US Open and NFL season opener. If you are one of those customers, then you can at least get a $30 credit.

DirecTV says it is offering all affected customers a $30 bill credit and alternative ways to watch your sports, entertainment, and family & kids channels. You can see the offer here, ad follow the steps, or just reach out to DirecTV to possibly get something better.

DirecTV is offering these two option to catch up with your favorite TV channels:

    • Visit fubotv.com/deal for a 7-day free trial from Fubo, either for their Pro or Elite with Sports Plus plans.
    • Visit sling.com/DIRECTV to get the Sling Orange service, offset by a $30 credit from DIRECTV.
