  • Disney World reveals new details for Pirates of the Caribbean tavern

    [ad_1]

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Disney World unveiled new details on Tuesday for The Beak and Barrel, its new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern, which is set to open later this year at Magic Kingdom Park.

    What You Need To Know

    • Disney World unveiled new details for The Beak and Barrel, its new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern
    • The pub is set to open later this year at Magic Kingdom Park
    • Disney said that The Beak and Barrel’s opening date and menu offerings will be revealed soon

The new pub, which will be found at Adventureland, is “established by the legendary pirate rumrunner, Captain Meridian ‘Merry’ Goldwyn, and her talkative first mate, Rummy,” according to a post on the official Disney Parks Blog, and will welcome guests of all ages.

At The Beak and Barrel, guests can dine in “The Mess,” which is the tavern’s biggest space, once the mess hall for Spanish soldiers. This area features long tables with abundant seating and plenty of pirate-themed decor, such as a hanging anchor covered in candles. A large bar can also be found, made from salvaged parts of a cursed shipwreck.

“Guests may also spot the Enchanted Rum Bottle, which was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma and seemingly serves as the source of the tavern’s specialty brews, or Rummy hobbling along the bar’s ledge, greeting the patrons and keeping a close eye on the crew while Merry is away,” stated Disney.

Another area of the tavern, “Captains’ Quarters,” is adorned with fine art and drapery, which has been tattered over time by pirates. Five small ships in glass bottles are mounted above the fireplace, “rumored to represent pirates from every corner of the world banding together to defeat tyranny” — park officials say they are known to come to life and battle one another.

    [ad_1]

ORLANDO, Fla. — Guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can now skip the airport check-in line with the company’s Luggage Assistance service, officials said Thursday.

The pilot service is available at select resorts with Southwest Airlines flights departing from Orlando International Airport (MCO).

    What You Need To Know

    • Guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can now skip the airport check-in line with the company’s Luggage Assistance service
    • The pilot service is available at select resorts with Southwest Airlines flights departing from Orlando International Airport (MCO)
    • Luggage Assistance is available to receive luggage any time from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. – 1 a.m. daily
    • Get more information on the service on Disney World’s website

The Luggage Assistance service allows guests to drop off their checked bags at their resort hotel. The luggage is then delivered to Southwest Airlines at MCO, where guests can head directly to their flight.

The service is only available at the following locations:

In order to use the service, guests are to check in at their Disney resort hotel and call or visit Luggage Assistance in the resort lobby at the beginning of their stay. Guests are encouraged to leave their inbound Southwest Airlines tags on their bags.

The day before the departure, guests should check in for their Southwest Airlines flight online.

Officials said that guests should drop off their bags at Luggage Assistance in the resort hotel lobby area by the required drop off time. They will need to provide a valid form of photo identification first. Guests can also call Luggage Assistance from their in-room telephone to ask for help with their bags.

Guests can then head to the airport, skip the check-in line, board their flight and pick up their bags at baggage claim when they arrive at your destination.

Officials said the service works only if guests are checking out from these hotels and if their return flight is with Southwest Airlines.

Guests are encouraged to drop off their bags the night before your scheduled departure. However, if you need some extra time, they can do the following:

    • When flying before 1:00 p.m: Drop your bags off by 1:00 a.m. the night before your flight.
    • When flying at or after 1:00 p.m.: Drop your bags off at least 4 hours before departure or no later than 1:00 p.m. — whichever comes first.

If a guest’s Southwest Airlines flight is canceled, their luggage will be rerouted to the new flight. Passengers can also track your bag through the Southwest Airlines app.

“We continue to work with Orlando International Airport on ways we can help manage the high demand for travel to Central Florida and improve the experience for our guests and other airport passengers,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement. “As part of these efforts, we are working with a vendor to pilot a new one-way service for guests at Disney Value Resorts to conveniently check their luggage prior to departure when flying out of the airport on Southwest Airlines.”

Boarding passes must be printed or downloaded before the drop-off, as printing isn’t available at the resort, officials said.

    Luggage Assistance is available to receive luggage any time from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. – 1 a.m. daily.

ORLANDO, Fla. — A newly born Masai giraffe named Tucker made his Walt Disney World debut on Monday at Animal Kingdom’s Harambe Wildlife Reserve alongside his mom, Mara.

Tucker is the first giraffe calf born at Walt Disney World Resort since 2021. The Masai giraffe is classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with around 30,000 giraffes remaining globally, according to Disney.

Disney has partnered with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to help protect and conserve the iconic species. Through the AZA’s Species Survival Plan, Disney has welcomed the births of a variety of animals, including Hartmann’s mountain zebras, cotton-top tamarins, a rare addax, and an endangered Sumatran tiger cub, Disney said in a release.

Guests can take a trip on Kilimanjaro Safaris to view the variety of wildlife that call Animal Kingdom home, including Tucker the giraffe.

At 4:30 a.m., the first group of runners started a 26.2 marathon, and another group started 30 seconds afterwards.

The marathon is part of Walt Disney World’s Marathon Weekend.

Adam Ball, the vice president of ESPN Wide World of Sports and Disney Water Parks said this Marathon Weekend shows just how the local community and participants from around the world come together and support one another.

“Anybody can do it, whether it’s your first time,” he said. “We have so few people here who’ve never won a race before. We have people that it’s their 20th marathon today. And so really, anyone can do it when you’re local, whether you’re from the other side of the country, or another country.”

Marielle Despres was the championship winner for the women’s group. She’s from France, but now lives in Clermont.

Despres trained for the marathon for two months with her husband and her three kids as her support system.

“Each time I do trainings, they were with me and saying, ‘Let’s go, let’s go.’ It was amazing,” she said.

The first race was a 5K held on Thursday, followed by the 10K on Friday morning.

The event weekend continued with the half marathon on Saturday and the marathon on Sunday.

And after an early and long morning, Despres only had two things on her mind: to rest and enjoy her day.
