Shrimp is a weeknight dinner superhero. It cooks quickly and is extremely versatile, yet feels like a treat every time I set it down on the dinner table. This classic recipe calls for ingredients you probably already have on hand, like butter, garlic, and lemon, which together create a saucy, Italian-leaning shrimp that’s just begging to be at the center of your plate tonight. The best part: You need just five minutes to make it.

A Fast & Fancy Shrimp Dinner for Any Night of the Week

Shrimp tossed in a rich garlic butter sauce is hard to compete with. This recipe is quick enough to pull off on a busy weeknight, but feels special enough for a Saturday night in, too. How you serve it is up to you. Toss it with pasta for a dish that very much resembles shrimp scampi; serve it over rice, orzo, or creamy polenta; or simply serve it straight-up in shallow bowls, with crusty bread close by to help soak up all the delicious sauce.

This garlic butter shrimp couldn’t be easier to pull together but a few tips ensure success:

  • A Veggie Bowl Inspired By The “Three Sisters:” Corn, Beans, & Squash

A Veggie Bowl Inspired By The “Three Sisters:” Corn, Beans, & Squash

Crystal Wahpepah’s restaurant, Wahpepah’s Kitchen, picks up where her work as a Bay Area caterer left off: making and serving Native American cuisine that both nourishes and educates diners, with the goal of fostering Indigenous food sovereignty. Her menu is intimately tied to the provenance of the Ohlone land she grew up on in Oakland, California, and the food traditions of her multi-tribe community there (Wahpehpah is an enrolled member of the Kickapoo nation of Oklahoma). Tribes throughout North America tell the legend of “the three sisters,” the story of how corn, beans, and squash help each other to grow and sustain the community. Wahpepah’s eponymous nod to these Indigenous staple crops is a fixture on her menu: This veggie bowl leaves plenty of room for you to adapt, just as the restaurant does. Use whatever fruit is in season or suits your preference, if not strawberry, try blueberry or pomegranate seeds; use the nuts you like best; feel free to play with the greens you use. It’s essential, however, to use corn, beans, and squash. Even better if you take a page from Wahpepah’s book and also use this recipe as a chance to seek out connections with your region’s Indigenous farmers.

  • Lentil & Mushroom Ragu: A Plant-Based Pasta Sauce With Protein

Lentil & Mushroom Ragu: A Plant-Based Pasta Sauce With Protein

I tried to keep the flavor profile similar to an Italian beef or veal ragu by using a base soffritto of celery, onion, and carrot plus a grating of nutmeg and some bay leaves for that all-is-well-with-the-world homely lasagne taste. The other crucial ingredient was some hidden blitzed mushrooms, a vegetable Leo generally hates but that add meatiness here without actually tasting mushroomy. There is sweetness from Marsala (or use the dregs of a bottle of port or dessert wine if that’s what you have), and I decided to use red lentils instead of Le Puy or green because they cook down quicker and have a mushy nursery-food charm.

  • Misfits Market vs. Imperfect Foods: Which Service Is Best?

Misfits Market vs. Imperfect Foods: Which Service Is Best?

When signing up for Misfits Market, you’ll first enter your email address and create a password. It will then bring you to a page to fill in your full name, shipping address, and phone number. Here, you’ll be able to leave any delivery notes such as where you’d like the package left or if your apartment building has a front desk or door attendant.

Information will populate on the side of the screen to tell you which day Misfits Market does deliveries in your area. For my neighborhood, the delivery date is Tuesday. Quick note: Unfortunately, the day of the week you receive your delivery cannot be changed. On the bright side, the brand does this to limit its carbon footprint.

Based on the survey I completed, my plan started at $35 per week plus tax and shipping—but the plan can be customized. All changes, including whether or not I’d like to skip a week or change my delivery details, can be made under Settings.

The next screen will require you to enter your credit or debit card information, and you’ll be charged your grocery plan cost before you can browse products and go any further (I find this a little annoying). The order minimum for Misfits Market is $25, and delivery fees and taxes are based on where you live. If you spend over $70, you get free shipping.

  • The Official Dos and Don’ts of Restaurant Dress Codes

The Official Dos and Don’ts of Restaurant Dress Codes

What to Avoid: The term “business” is an important addition to this category. While the sleek jeans you styled for a casual dinner can be considered acceptable in certain business settings, focus on chic pants to err on the side of caution.

What to Wear: Business casual, though it may seem obscure for a restaurant, is easy to understand, as it’s what one would typically wear to work. While that concept can become a little hazy for the fashion person who wears trendier outfits to the office, the idea is to maintain a professional, appropriate, and elegant appearance. Imagine the outfit you would wear when taking a client out to lunch. Personally, this brings to mind tailored pants, an oversize blazer, and a button-down with a pair of simple oxford loafers. Sophisticated and stylish but not overly stuffy.

Does Protein Make You Gain Weight? What Experts Want You To Know

However, several studies32 have found that consistent protein intake throughout the day is more important for gaining muscle, promoting recovery, maximizing performance, and losing weight.

To optimize MPS, aim to consume 25 to 30 grams of high-quality protein21 during two or three meals throughout the day. This amount has been found sufficient for both younger and healthy older adults.

“In general, the first meal of the day after a nighttime fasting period is the most important for MPS,” says Layman. “However, if you’re eating a low protein diet (only 50 to 60 grams per day), getting at least one meal up around 40 grams is critical. If you have a higher protein intake (around 100 grams per day), it’s best to distribute the protein. The first and last meals will greatly benefit muscle growth.”

“Eating a high-protein meal every four to six hours during feeding windows will maintain your body in an anabolic state with ongoing muscle protein synthesis,” Lyon explains. “The first and last meals of the day are most important because they’re when you break your overnight fasting period and prepare your body for sleep, where you do most of your repair and regenerate activities.”
