  • Tere Ishk Mein Movie Review: Dhanush and Kriti Sanon make Aanand L Rai’s PROBLEMATIC film worth watching | Bollywood Life

    [ad_1]

Aanand L Rai returns with Tere Ishk Mein, a complex love tale led by Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, carries shades of the emotional intensity earlier seen in Raanjhanaa.

    Tere Ishk Mein
    Director: Aanand L Rai
    Cast: Dhanush, Kriti Sanon
    Rating: ★★1/2

‘Pagal ho kya? Chinta kyun karte ho? Sab theek ho jaega’ says Mukti Behniwaal (Kriti Sanon) – a Psychology student in jest. Reason? Mukti Behniwaal wants Shankar Gurrukkul (Dhanush) for her case study so she can get her thesis – violent, ‘alpha-type’ men can be changed into calm, gentle individuals – approved. While she is convinced of turning this ‘gandi naali ka keeda’ into ‘insaan’ with her experiments and sessions, Shankar doesn’t change. All the way to the film’s final moments, he is called ‘outrageous, outstanding, out-of-hand’ by a flight-mate and ‘aggressive, angry, alpha’ by Mukti. So does anything change? Yes, the lives of Mukti and Shankar that flips upside down. And also the minds of the viewers who can’t believe that in 2025, they are offered a film that revolves around a brutally aggressive college student who storms through Delhi University crushing opponents and obsessively pursues a girl who had clearly mentioned at the outset that her ‘relationship’ with him would always be ‘work’.

Tere Ishk Mein Movie Review: What is the story?

Shankar (Dhanush) is a rebellious DUSU President who is invariably shown picking fights for social causes. He stays in a cramped little room with his father played by Prakash Raj, and remembers his mother who died saving him from a fire. Following his first unexpected meeting with Mukti, Shankar becomes her case study on the condition that she is with him strictly for ‘work’. What follows next, keeps the viewers glued to their seats. For the film offers an interesting mix of laughs, action, and the whole rich-versus-poor vibe between them. By the time an hour rolls by, you’ll be thinking that you actually watched a lot. As we get back to the present, we are told Shankar is now a pilot in the Indian Air Force, and Mukti works as a head counsellor in the Armed Forces. What brings them together is what the film is about?

Tere Ishk Mein Movie Review: How are Kriti Sanon and Dhanush’s performances?

Within the first 15 minutes, the film pushes us into a mix of past and present. This is where Mukti – who is now heavily pregnant – is shockingly called to Leh to give a mental fitness certificate for Shankar. Until now, she hadn’t heard from him following her wedding to another person. Despite her condition, she sets off on this journey to Leh. As expected, the past and present collide which isn’t just emotional, but also messy and gripping.
Kriti Sanon is impeccable as Mukti – who is determined about her goals in life, but also a confused character. After winning hearts in films such as Mimi, Bhediya, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and Crew, she still needs to be cautious while portraying roles that have a messy setup. Even though there is enough chaos in her character, Kriti is flawless in making Mukti believable and relatable. Dhanush clearly owns Shankar. He nails this messed-up guy who is evidently violent, but also emotionally vulnerable. A couple of sequences where he describes his mother’s death and witnesses his father’s demise, truly standout. Even when the film falters, Dhanush and Kriti keeps us invested. Prakash Raj is impressive as his dad. Priyanshu Painyuli, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Vineet Kumar play their parts well.

Tere Ishk Mein Movie Review: What goes wrong?

Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav bring to the viewers a dark story. It may have sounded convincing on paper, but falters in execution. There are parts that look totally absurd, and a few that are either too grim and unnecessary. And what is that climax? It is almost like a patience, and logic-stretching endurance test than the viewers have to sit through. Mukti could have been a more fleshed out character, but isn’t. And her ways to ‘control’ him are as much weird as laughable. And with the way her dad behaves, it is tough to be convinced about her ability to fix her own issues before she is even considered as the only option for the entire Armed Forces.

In a nutshell, Tere Ishk Mein is watchable only for Dhanush and Kriti Sanon’s performances. But what about the story? Wait for OTT release, and thank us later!

  • Idli Kadai Review: Dhanush starrer is a partially entertaining family drama that ends up uncreative and melodramatic

    [ad_1]

    Name: Idli Kadai

    Director: Dhanush

Cast: Dhanush, Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, R. Parthiban, Shalini Pandey, P. Samuthirakani, Geetha Kailasam

    Writer: Dhanush

    Rating: 3/5

Idli Kadai, starring Dhanush in the lead role, was released in theaters on October 1, 2025. Written and directed by Dhanush himself, the family drama also features Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, and others in pivotal roles.

If you are heading out to watch the movie in theaters this week, here’s the Pinkvilla review.

    The Plot

Idli Kadai presents the story of Murugan, a youngster whose parents run a small yet famous idli shop in their village. Coming from humble beginnings, Murugan builds a career in catering and lands a job at Vishnu Vardhan’s luxurious hotel chain.

Amidst his hard work, Murugan falls in love with Vishnu Vardhan’s daughter Meera and decides to marry her. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when his father passes away. Even though he doesn’t want to cancel his wedding, he decides to return to his hometown despite threats from his fiancée’s family.

In a heated moment, Murugan calls off his marriage and retreats to his village. Once back, he decides to follow in his father’s footsteps and run their idli shop. But Meera’s brother Ashwin stands in his way, seeking revenge for tarnishing their family’s public image.

What happens to Murugan and how his rivalry with Ashwin affects the idli shop forms the crux of the story.

    The Good

The biggest strength of Idli Kadai is the simple and innocent relationship shared between Dhanush’s Murugan and his father (played by Rajkiran). Both actors are known for their powerhouse performances, and this film relies heavily on their ability to deliver heartwarming moments.

Though the storyline struggles to maintain its original intent, the movie is elevated by impressive performances from the main cast. As the film progresses, Dhanush strikes a balance between portraying a timid character and stepping into the shoes of a hero in a classic good vs evil narrative.

On the technical front, Idli Kadai boasts some beautiful soundtracks composed by GV Prakash Kumar. The soulfulness of the songs and scores blends well into the narrative, offering a refreshing experience with organic music rather than tracks crafted for viral social media appeal.

Additionally, the production design, cinematography, and editing deserve special praise.

    The Bad

Idli Kadai is riddled with cliches right from the start. What begins as a personal journey of self-identity and returning to one’s roots gradually devolves into a generic good vs evil conflict, lacking credible development.

As a result, many characters in Idli Kadai come off as artificial with staged emotions. The screenplay is bland and uncreative, making it difficult for viewers to connect with the characters. The lackluster writing and stale treatment force a viewer to rub their foreheads at times, making it a tiresome watch.

The execution by director Dhanush is sub-par at best, even though it is an improvement over the mess that Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK) was, but the bar remains too low.

    The Performances

Idli Kadai has strong performances by the ensemble cast led by Dhanush. While the Raayan actor holds together the story and prevents it from crumbling apart, veteran actor Rajkiran delivers such a nuanced and layered portrayal.

With an intense and impressive performance by Arun Vijay as the prime antagonist, Nithya Menen does a solid job as the female lead, exuding charm throughout. Moreover, Shalini Pandey also makes a commendable impact despite her limited screentime.

    The Verdict

Idli Kadai is a predictable and melodramatic venture starring Dhanush in the lead role. With every nook and cranny of the story falling into textbook cliches, this film ends up being the second-best effort in Dhanush’s directorial career, after Pa Paandi.

If you enjoy sentimental family dramas set in villages, featuring a hero vs villain trope, then this film might be worth your time.

Take the case of Thiruchitrambalam; the actor was great at making the audience root for his character in the film.

This will be Dhanush’s 51st outing and is expected to be released in multiple languages. Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao have been confirmed as the film’s producers. A poster will be released tomorrow on Dhanush’s birthday.

Varun Tej’s next film titled Matka will also feature Norah Fatehi and Meenakshi Chowdary

Varun Tej is an actor who has constantly experimented with a variety of genres and roles. His newest film is Matka, which just got an official title. Meenakshi Chowdary will be the film’s female protagonist. Norah Fatehi will also be a part of the film, and she has already expressed her happiness at working with Varun Tej and team in an interview.

The cast list of the film has also been released and comprises Naveen Chandra, Kannada Kishore, Ajay Ghosh, Mime Gopi, Roopalakshmi, Vijayrama Raju, Jagadeesh, and Raj Thirandas. Karuna Kumar will be directing the project, which will be produced under the banner of Vyra Entertainments. The film’s music will be composed by GV Prakash Kumar, while Priyaseth will handle the cinematography.

Matka will be made on an epic scale, and the story will span decades. Set against the backdrop of Vizag, Matka is based on real incidents that took place between 1958 and 1982.
