  • Faith As In Homework

    From time to time, you read here in this space, my quest, goal, or challenge to define the work that accompanies the faith of a saved Christian. I believe that faith is a verb of a saved Christian. Faith is a verb, and action is the next logical step of a professed follower of Jesus Christ. My dilemma sometimes has been to determine just what it is that I’ve been called to do. What church should I join? What ministry should I participate in? What pastor should I follow? Invariably, when I have prayed on this for guidance, the Lord has a way of reminding me that these are my issues and not His. What church I attend, what pastor I listen to, and what so-called ministry I participate in do not matter to the Almighty. What does matter, He constantly reminds me, is service to my fellow man in His name.  Instead of focusing on what to do and which way to go, I should ask God for the opportunity to serve, witness, and expand the knowledge of Him through me.

    I am now convinced that whenever I struggle in the real world, trying to determine if I’m doing this thing right, I am falling prey to, allowing, if you will, the devil to do his thing. His thing is confusion. The more confused I am, the less I’ll do in God’s name, afraid to do the wrong thing. You see, Satan wins if nothing gets done. Each and every time I allow myself to take over, I lose. The prayer to God must first submit all things to His will and respond accordingly to what comes next.  What comes next is the work. What comes next is what God would have you do. The answer is understanding that the job of being a Christian is to let go and let God. The hard part is letting go. The easy part, once you’ve done that, is then and only then to recognize that God will give you something to do. Not only will He give you something to do, He will also give you the means to accomplish it. 

    Every time I get lost in my walk, I, by now, have enough sense to stop and ask directions from the Creator. I generally get what I’ve asked for each time I do this. Like Christ turning over tables in the temple, the point is doing God’s work, not getting hung up on the definition, parameters, or the name of the work. You know, Jesus spent a lifetime trying to get people to relate to the spirit of the law, rather than the rule of the law. Bingo! That’s it. The spirit of God’s law demands that we remain open to the possibility that we can, will be, and must be used in His service. We must give Him all the honor and all the glory. Faith prepares you for this. Faith molds you for this. Faith gives purpose and intent. Through this faith, God provides circumstances and opportunity. The rest is up to us. Just remember there is a way out when you get confused, lost, or overwhelmed. Treat the next person you meet, and deal with the next circumstance you encounter as sent by God to allow you to put your faith in His hands. Christ has already guaranteed the outcome. Let go and let God. The rest is given.

    Small plane crashes in San Bernardino Mountains

    Authorities are investigating a plane crash that occurred in the San Bernardino Mountains on Saturday night, officials said.

    The twin-engine Gulfstream AC95 crashed at about 8:15 p.m. in the mountains north of Palm Avenue, according to preliminary information from the Federal Aviation Administration. Officials did not know how many people were on board, or whether anyone survived.

    The remote area is difficult to access by foot or vehicle, and search efforts were initially hampered by rain and wind that lashed the area Saturday night, officials said.

    By Sunday morning, authorities had located a debris field north of Devil’s Canyon, and members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Unit were on the scene along with search and rescue crews, said Gloria Huerta, a spokesperson with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Rescue workers were being hoisted down a mountain and attempting to hike to the debris field, she said.

    The rapper Lil Nas, who infamously pole danced to Hell in his music video for his song “Montero,” was humiliated by the evangelical Christian institution Liberty University, which was quick to invalidate a letter he shared alleging that he had been accepted to their school.

    Liberty University Denies Accepting Lil Nas

    It all started on Tuesday, when Lil Nas took to social media to share a letter claiming that he’d been accepted to Liberty University while promoting his new single “J Christ.”

    “I know twitter hates me right now but i want yall to know im literally about to go to college for biblical studies in the fall. Not everything is a troll! Anyways IM A STUDENT AGAIN! LETS GOOO,” he wrote alongside the alleged letter.

    Liberty University, however, was not having any of it, as the school quickly issued a statement saying that Lil Nas had not in fact been accepted.

    “We can confirm that Liberty University did not issue the Montero Hill ‘acceptance letter’ posted yesterday to social media, and we have no record of Montero Hill applying to the university,” the school told Billboard.

    “Liberty University exists to glorify God by equipping men and women in higher education in fidelity to the Christian faith expressed through the Holy Scriptures,” the statement continued. “We continue to pray for America and for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be proclaimed across this land. We welcome all to apply and join us at Liberty University.”

    J Christ Music Video

    This comes after the music video for Lil Nas’ new song “J Christ” dropped early this morning, and it opened with a series of callbacks to his hellish video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” including the infamous pole to hell and a demonic Lil Nas X stirring a cauldron of arms and legs. 

    Lil Nas, who directed the music video, can then be seen flying back up to Heaven, where he reunites with the Devil and plays a game of one-on-one basketball against him. The rest of the video shows Biblical vignettes like Jesus’ crucifixion, Nabal shearing David’s sheep, and Moses parting the Red Sea. It ends with Lil Nas turning into Noah and shepherding the denizens of Earth onto a large ark to survive this flooding world.

    “Back up out the gravesite/ B—h, I’m back like J Christ,” Lil Has declares in the song. “I’m finna get the gays hype/ I’m finna take it yay high.”

    The video ends with the screen saying “Day Zero” of “a new beginning,” sharing a quote from 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

    Lil Nas Defends Himself

    Before the song came out, Lil Nas was widely slammed for using Biblical imagery to promote his music.

    “The crazy thing is nowhere in the picture is a mockery of Jesus,” he recently said to defend himself, according to Variety. “Jesus’s image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world.”

    “I’m not making fun of s***,” he added. “yall just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. stfu.”

    In the end, we’re glad that Liberty University has distanced itself from Lil Nas, as he clearly does not belong at any kind of Christian institution. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments section.

    Man Suspected Of Intentionally Driving Off California Cliff

    MONTARA, Calif. (AP) — The driver of a Tesla that plunged off a cliff in Northern California, seriously wounding two children and a second adult, intentionally caused the crash and has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and child abuse, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

    Dharmesh A. Patel of Pasadena will be booked into San Mateo County Jail after he’s released from a hospital, the highway patrol said in a statement. It wasn’t immediately known if Patel has an attorney.

    “CHP investigators worked throughout the night interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene,” the highway patrol statement said. “Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act.”

    Patel, another adult, a 4-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy survived after their car tumbled down a notorious cliffside along the Pacific Coast Highway near an area called Devil’s Slide that’s known for fatal wrecks, officials said. It was not immediately clear whether the four were members of the same family.

    The Tesla sedan plummeted more than 250 feet (76 meters) from the highway and crashed into a rocky outcropping. It appears to have flipped a few times before landing on its wheels, wedged against the cliff just feet from the surf, Brian Pottenger, a battalion chief for Coastside Fire Protection District/Cal Fire, said Monday

    Crashes along Devil’s Slide, a steep, rocky and winding coastal area about 15 miles (24 kilometers) south of San Francisco that’s between Pacifica and Montara, rarely end with survivors. On Monday, the victims were initially listed in critical condition but all four were conscious and alert when rescuers arrived.

    “We go there all the time for cars over the cliff and they never live. This was an absolute miracle,” Pottenger said Monday.

    There was no guardrail at the spot where the sedan went off the cliff, officials said.

    Witnesses called 911 around 10:15 a.m. Monday and the crews set up rope system from the highway to lower firefighters down the cliff, the battalion chief said. At the same time, other firefighters watching the sedan through binoculars suddenly noticed movement — a sign that at least one person was still alive.

    The incident turned from what had been likely a recovery of bodies to a rescue operation that took several hours amid constant rain, heavy winds, slick roads and crashing waves. The doors were smashed against the cliff and jammed shut, so firefighters were forced to cut the victims out of the car using the so-called “jaws of life” tools.

    Crews pulled the kids out of the back window and brought them up the cliff by hand in a rescue basket using the rope system. They were rushed to the hospital by ambulance with musculoskeletal injuries.

    The adults had traumatic injuries, however, and had to be hoisted up the cliff by a helicopter. They were then both flown to the hospital, the battalion chief said.
