  • NYC man accused of stealing hundreds of OTC medications in NH spree

    [ad_1]

HUDSON, N.H. — A Staten Island man is being held without bail after police said he carried out a coordinated retail theft operation, stealing 455 containers of over-the-counter medications from Walmart and several Hannaford grocery stores before fleeing from officers.

The Hudson Police said they arrested 28-year-old Yasin Shearin after Walmart employees on Lowell Road reported a “repeat theft suspect” they wanted removed for trespassing. When officers approached him, Shearin displayed a New York driver’s license on his phone, but the photo did not match him, and he struggled to answer questions about his identity, including his Social Security number, according to a police affidavit.

Police said they linked him to a prior felony theft at the same Walmart involving nearly $1,500 in merchandise on Oct. 29. According to the affidavit, during that prior incident, the store’s asset protection employee took surveillance of Shearin placing items into a tote and walking past all points of sale. The employee told police Shearin appeared to be attempting the same method again on Dec. 17, concealing Zyrtec inside a closed tote.

Police said the store’s asset protection employee also alleged Shearin had “numerous open cases around the area regarding past thefts with Walmart.”

As police moved to arrest him, Shearin allegedly resisted and ran from the store. Officers chased him across the parking lot and apprehended him by the nearby McDonald’s.

Police said Shearin tried to get into a black 2025 Nissan SUV with New York plates during the chase. The vehicle was seized, and a search warrant allegedly uncovered 455 items of over-the-counter medications — Tylenol, Zyrtec, Nexium, Nicorette, Motrin, Dulcolax, Nexium, Pepcid, Breathe Right nasal strips and more — packed into bags.

Police said they also found marijuana and what they believe to be butane hash oil.

The affidavit states GPS data obtained from the vehicle showed it had stopped at several Walmart and Hannaford supermarkets in New Hampshire, including locations in Salem, Bedford, Seabrook, Manchester, Derry, Londonderry and Hudson.

Surveillance footage from the Hudson store showed Shearin entering alone, heading directly to the vitamin and health aisle, and concealing medications in a blue bag hidden inside a shopping cart before walking out without paying, according to the affidavit.

Police later matched the blue bag to one allegedly seized from the SUV.

Shearin was arraigned in the 9th Circuit Nashua District Court on Friday. Court documents state he entered a not-guilty plea to willful concealment, a Class A misdemeanor, and no pleas to receiving stolen property ($1,501 or more), a Class A felony, and organized retail crime enterprise and theft by unauthorized taking ($1,001-$1,501), both Class B felonies.

A judge ordered him held without bail, citing his risk of flight, multiple open cases in other states, and what was described as a safety risk to himself and the community if released.

Shearin was appointed a public defender, Alex Charles Fernald, who was not immediately available for comment.

  • Election preview: Rep. Chris Pappas is challenged by former Executive Councilor Russell Prescott

Election preview: Rep. Chris Pappas is challenged by former Executive Councilor Russell Prescott

DERRY — Residents of the 1st New Hampshire Congressional District will be taking to the polls next month to determine who will represent them for the next two years in Congress.

On Nov. 5, the voters from Danville, Derry, East Kingston, Hampstead, Kingston, Londonderry, Newton, and Plaistow will have to choose between incumbent Democrat Chris Pappas and the challenger, Republican Russell Prescott, to represent them in Washington, D.C.

Pappas was first elected to Congress in 2019. Before that, he had served on the New Hampshire Executive Council for six years.

Pappas is a small business owner, one of the co-owners of the Puritan Backroom restaurant in Manchester that has been open for more than 100 years.

Prescott has served as a state senator for five terms, beginning in 2000, then re-elected in 2010, 2012, and 2014. He also served as an executive councilor, serving from 2016 through 2021.

He left the council after he purchased R.E. Prescott Company, a wholesale distributor and manufacturer of water treatment systems, of which he had been the co-owner and vice president for several decades.

Many of the issues Pappas is campaigning on are devoted to inclusivity, like making college more affordable, making health care more accessible, and keeping LGBTQ+ and minority Americans safe from discrimination.

He also emphasizes investing in transportation and infrastructure, combatting the opioid epidemic, creating more opportunities for small businesses, and increasing the availability of mental and physical healthcare for veterans.

For Prescott, important issues revolve around aspects of safety, like tightening up border security, ensuring Israel has the resources it needs to defend itself, fighting to keep Second Amendment rights for Americans, and using voter identification laws to safeguard elections.

Lowering inflation and taxes, defending social security and Medicare, promoting state’s rights on issues like abortion and education, supporting term limits for senators and congress members, getting better benefits for first responders and veterans, promoting domestic energy policies, and standing up to China are other topics that are featured in the Prescott campaign.

It and It: Chapter Two star Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu) has officially signed back on to reprise the role of sewer-dwelling, child-eating clown Pennywise for Max’s Welcome to Derry series. The returning Pennywise joins castmates Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar.

According to Deadline, Skarsgård will also executive produce the show along with his fellow It film franchise creative team at Warner Bros. The show was inspired by the Stephen King novel It and was developed by the franchise’s director Andy Muschietti with producer Barbara Muschietti. They’re also joined by Chapter Two co-producer Jason Fuchs with the films’ other producers, Roy Lee and Dan Lin. Now with Skarsgård in the mix, we’re excited for more horror in the prequel series. Muschietti is set to direct four episodes out of the nine in the series order.

Recently, Bill Skarsgård starred in Boy Kills World and will be featured as Eric Draven in the upcoming The Crow reboot, while Andy Muschietti remained in the Warner Bros. family with The Flash. Needless to say, we are excited to see them team up again with more world-building and creepy killer clownery in the Stephen King universe. Their take on It has become the quintessential one garnering $1.17 billion worldwide. And in an age with ever-expanding mythologies, characters like Pennywise can keep floating on in horror infamy as long as he wants.
