The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed his death, as well as the deaths of two other individuals aboard the plane, according to The Associated Press.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident.

James’ illustrious career spanned decades, as he became one of the most successful and beloved songwriters in Nashville.

He worked on more than 500 songs recorded by artists like Faith Hill, Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban and Meghan Trainor.

She also remembered their shared moments of laughter over his rendition of “Cowboy Casanova,” a song of hers that he wrote. She said that the song “should’ve sounded ridiculous coming from a macho dude like him, but somehow, he even made that cool.”

Underwood also spoke of James’ love for God. She remembered their shared moments of worship, singing together at church, particularly the songs they wrote about Jesus.

“My favorite songs to sing of ours are the ones that he or we wrote about Jesus because the thoughts and feelings behind them are so genuine and pure. I won’t ever sing one note of them again without thinking of him.”

In 2020, James recorded his own album. He previously explained to the Grand Ole Opry, “At my stage in life, I’m not going to write about driving around in pickup trucks, chasing girls. It needed to feel more classic, lyrically. They all wound up being love songs, but hopefully love songs with a twist, that haven’t all been written before.”

James was born in Oklahoma City and moved to Nashville to pursue music after leaving medical school. His songwriting career skyrocketed, and he quickly established himself as one of the most influential writers in Nashville.

  • Robert Redford’s real-life love story began in Utah with wife who wasn’t impressed with Hollywood fame

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Robert Redford was initially attracted to Sibylle Szaggars once he learned she wasn’t familiar with him or his movies.

The legendary actor was 89 when he died on Sept. 16 at his home in Sundance, Utah, his representative told Fox News Digital. Redford and Szaggars’ love story began decades ago in those very mountains in Utah.

In 1996, the German-born artist ran into Redford while on a ski trip with friends at his Sundance Mountain Resort, which eventually became the same spot he founded the non-profit Sundance Institute to provide support for independent filmmakers.

In 2014, Szaggars shed some light on their first encounter.

“I knew of him,” Szaggars recalled during a discussion for the National YoungArts Foundation. “I had seen ‘Jeremiah Johnson,’ one of my favorite films, and ‘Barefoot in the Park.’ But I have to also say: I’m not a film person, and I hadn’t been a film person. I was more interested in musicals, opera and painting and artists and Salvador Dalí and Picasso.”

Szaggars said that Redford invited her and her group of friends out to dinner after a day on the slopes. “Oh my God, I don’t know any of his films,” she recalled thinking to herself.

One of Redford’s friends told her that she could rent some of his movies at the reception. She rented several and watched short bursts of the six or eight movies that she rented in the chance that the star would bring any of them up, but he didn’t.

“I thought, ‘What if he wants to talk about his movies?’ I have no idea — that would be so embarrassing. I probably would have mixed everything. Of course, he did not talk about it so I was rescued and saved,” she said at the time.

Redford was also in attendance for the panel and admitted this is one of Szaggars’ qualities that attracted him to her.

“That’s one of the things that attracted me to her—she didn’t know much about me.”

“So we started from a more even playing field. I didn’t have to worry about any agenda. I’d been through that before. And so it was a wonderful beginning of a relationship because it began as two human beings meeting each other and finding a connection as two human beings rather than being colored by success or whatever,” Redford said at the time.

Prior to his romance with Szaggars, who he married in 2009, Redford was married to Lola Van Wagenen. The pair tied the knot in 1958 and later divorced. Redford and Szaggars did not have any of their own children, but she became stepmom to Redford’s children from his marriage to Van Wagenen.

Redford and Szaggars kept their relationship private over the past several decades and rarely made any public comments about their romance. Prior to tying the knot in 2009, Redford spoke to the German magazine, Bunte, about their engagement.

“We are engaged and very happy with that. She is my fiancée and that says everything, doesn’t it?” he told the magazine in 2008.

Sticking to their theme of privacy, Redford and Szaggars kept their wedding very small, only inviting 30 friends and family members. They tied the knot at Louis C. Jacob Hotel in Hamburg, Germany, where Szaggars is from.

In 2011, Redford spoke to AARP The Magazine about Szaggars. “She’s a very special person. She’s younger than I am, and European, which I like, so that’s a whole new life,” he said at the time.

Szaggars was 21 years younger than Redford.

During his illustrious career that spanned five decades of film, Redford became an Oscar-winning director as well as an activist. Szaggars also had an interest in activism.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox took to Instagram shortly after Redford’s death to shed some light on his life in his state.

“Decades ago, Robert Redford came to Utah and fell in love with this place. He cherished our landscapes and built a legacy that made Utah a home for storytelling and creativity. Through Sundance and his devotion to conservation, he shared Utah with the world.”

“I started acting long before I knew what I was doing,” she previously told Actors’ Equity, per People. “At age 19 and a junior in college, I joined the cast of a summer outdoor theater in North Carolina called Unto These Hills Outdoor Drama Center. I was a choir singer, a square dancer and understudied a lead role. . . . That job paid room and board and about $40 a week.”

Holliday moved to New York in the 1970s and got her first Broadway role in “All Over Town,” which was directed by Dustin Hoffman.

It wasn’t until 1976 that the aspiring actress landed her breakthrough role as the sassy waitress Florence Jean “Flo” Castleberry in the CBS sitcom “Alice,” where she coined the popular catchphrase, “Kiss my grits.” Holliday starred in “Alice” from 1976 to 1980 and then portrayed the character in the show’s spin-off, “Flo,” for two seasons.

“I used to think I preferred drama,” she told the Tampa Bay Times in 1992, “but I kept getting cast in comedies, and realized I was sort of good at it. Now I think I would like to do comedy more. It’s hard to do, but in a way it doesn’t take as much of an emotional toll.”

Country music singer Lee Greenwood described Kirk as “passionate, wise and fair,” in a statement shared with Fox News Digital on Thursday.

And one of those people that brought me into their world was Charlie Kirk,” Chrisley said in a video shared on TikTok. “Someone who gave me a voice as a woman made me feel like I had the power to show up in this world. And he was assassinated today. It truly was a political assassination.

Jillian Michaels paid tribute to Kirk on X, writing in part, “Today the world lost a father, a husband, and a cultural force who encouraged honest debate and communication with those who disagreed.”

“I’m utterly heartbroken and my prayers are with his family. He had such a powerful voice my young son took three flights just to shake his hand,” she continued. “Charlie was magnanimous and gracious — he welcomed me onto his podcast, invited me to his events, and offered me his platform even when we did not see eye to eye on certain topics. It’s a very rare and special soul who does that. The hatred that has seeped into our culture must stop. If we give in to this anger, if we allow hate to breed hate, we lose not only lives but our very humanity.”

Michaels concluded, “We have got to reject this darkness — in our media, in our politics, and within ourselves. Let’s take the pain of this loss as a solemn call to ensure it never happens again. All of our leaders on both sides of the aisle, of all colors, all genders, and all orientations need to set a better example. Come together. • Beach Boys feud reignites as Al Jardine criticizes Mike Love’s speech at Brian Wilson’s funeral

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Beach Boys member Al Jardine slammed Mike Love’s eulogy given at Brian Wilson’s Aug. 6 funeral as the feud between the former bandmates seemingly resurfaced.

“Mike wanted everybody to know that he wrote every single word of ‘Good Vibrations,’” Jardine told Rolling Stone about Love’s speech. “I didn’t feel the compassion, let’s put it that way. Mike’s got some serious megalomania problems.”

During Jardine’s speech, delivered at an event held after the funeral, he addressed Love’s words. “Mike, I’ve written some songs with Brian myself. We wrote one called ‘Surfin’ Down the Swanee River.’ It just wasn’t as big as ‘Good Vibrations,’” he said.

“I was focusing on Brian, and Mike was more focused on Mike,” Jardine told the outlet. “I think that is what it boiled down to.”

BEACH BOYS FOUNDER BRIAN WILSON DEAD AT 82

Fox News Digital reached out to Love for comment.

The Beach Boys began with Brian and his two brothers, Carl and Dennis. Eventually, they were joined by their cousin, Love, and their friend from school, Jardine. The band is one of the most commercially successful groups of all time, selling over 100 million records worldwide.

Despite the success, rifts between the band members have existed for decades.

“Mike is like P.T. Barnum,” Jardine told Rolling Stone. “He had these incredibly exotic ideas for tours. He was always looking at that next tour. He probably has a tour of Mars planned right now. I was going, ‘Let’s go back to the studio.’ And then he kicked me out of the band. It was pretty s—–.”

    STARS WHO DIED IN 2025

At the time, Jardine formed the Beach Boys Family and Friends. The band consisted of him along with his two sons, Wilson’s two daughters and Cass Elliot’s daughter. He was sued over the use of “Beach Boys.”

“Frankly, they were threatened by me, because my band sounded better than the Beach Boys band,” he explained. “Mike just came down on me with a s—load of lawyers. And pretty soon I was down about a million bucks. It was pretty devastating financially and emotionally. He showed me no mercy.”

A representative for Love told Rolling Stone that the musician never sued Jardine. The outlet reported the lawsuits were technically between Jardine and Brother Records, which the Beach Boys founded in the ’60s.

The band got back together in 2012 for a reunion tour, setting their disagreements aside.

“I enjoyed hearing everybody sing again, even Mike,” Jardine recalled. “It still had political overtones, believe me, within the band, but it really proved that we could do it again, and have fun doing it.”

According to Jardine, the fun was short-lived after Love and Bruce Johnston ended the reunion tour run to play as the Beach Boys on their own.

“He cut us right off there,” the musician claimed. “We were hopefully going to continue on doing some more, but he insisted on going back to his handpicked band and basically left Brian and I in the dust.”

Afterward, Wilson recruited Jardine and Blondie Chaplin to form their own trio and performed until the Beach Boys founder’s cognitive health began to decline.

“Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world.”

In the year leading up to his death, Wilson had been placed under a conservatorship after a dementia diagnosis.

“Brian Wilson wasn’t just the heart of The Beach Boys — he was the soul of our sound,” Love wrote in part in a tribute to his cousin and bandmate at the time of his death. “From the first time we sang together as kids in my living room, I knew there was something otherworldly in him. His musical gifts were unmatched. The melodies he dreamed up, the emotions he poured into every note – Brian changed the course of music forever.”

The statement continued: “He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired.”

“In his honor, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world — just as he did every day,” the statement concluded.

Caprio garnered a following on social media after videos of him treating those who appeared before him in his courtroom with kindness and compassion went viral, earning him the title of “Nicest Judge in the World.”

In the videos, Caprio can often be seen bringing children up to join him on the bench, setting up payment plans for individuals who weren’t able to pay the full amount of their fine, and sometimes waiving the fines completely.

His social media fame led him to star in his own reality show, titled “Caught in Providence,” which was on the air for two years, from 2018 to 2020. The show originally aired on local access television, but was picked up by Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury division.

“Judge Caprio’s unique brand of compassion and common sense approach to justice caught the attention of daytime TV and social media audiences, making ‘Caught in Providence’ a fan favorite,” Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury, said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter. “We will miss him dearly.”

The show went on to receive four Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including one for Caprio.

In December 2023, Caprio announced to his social media followers he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, calling it “an insidious form of cancer” and asked his followers to keep him in their prayers.

“One thing that people ask me is, ‘What can I do for you?’ First of all, I can’t thank all of you enough for your friendship and your kind messages. But I would ask each of you, in your own way, to please pray for me,” Caprio continued. “I am in need of the power of prayer, which I believe, in addition to the medical treatment that I’m receiving, is the most powerful weapon to help me survive this.”

Aubrey Plaza is opening up about navigating life after the tragic loss of her husband.

“The White Lotus” star spoke candidly about grief following the death of her late husband and director Jeff Baena, who died by suicide earlier this year at the age of 47.

During a recent episode of “Good Hang,” hosted by her longtime friend Amy Poehler, the host asked Plaza, 41, how she’s coping with the unimaginable loss.

“You’ve had this terrible, terrible, tragic year,” Poehler, 53, began. “You lost your husband, you’ve been dealing with that and you’ve been looking for all different ways in which to feel and find support.”

Poehler, who starred alongside the actress in “Parks and Recreation” from 2009 to 2015, noted that Plaza’s beloved dog Frankie had stepped in as a source of comfort.

“Frankie’s like your therapy dog now,” Poehler added.  “On behalf of all the people who feel like they know you, and the people who do know you — how are you feeling today?”

Plaza emotionally responded, “Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you,” she said. “Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.”

The “Honey, Don’t” star has mostly kept private in the months following Baena’s death in early January. Three days after his death, she broke her silence in a heartfelt Instagram tribute.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” she, along with the Baena/Stern family, said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

Meanwhile, Plaza compared her grief on the podcast to the plot of “The Gorge,” a 2025 sci-fi action movie starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.

“This is a really dumb analogy and it was kind of a joke at a certain point, but I actually mean it,” Plaza told Poehler. “Did you see that movie ‘The Gorge?’”

“In the movie, there’s a cliff on one side and a cliff on the other side, then there’s a gorge in between and it’s filled with all these monster people that are trying to get them,” she explained.

“I swear when I watched it, I was like that feels like what my grief is like… or what grief could be like,” Plaza said. “At all times, there’s like a giant ocean of awfulness, that’s like right there and I can see it.”

“Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it’s always there.”

Baena died on Jan. 3 at his home, according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed authorities responded to a call near Baena’s residence. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, officials told Fox News Digital at the time.

Baena and Plaza were private about their relationship after meeting in 2011. It is unclear when the two married, but Plaza confirmed the couple’s marriage status in 2021 with an Instagram post.
