Latinos Fed Up With Broken Borders, Moving To GOP: 'I Want Trump Back'

America’s broken borders are a problem for all Americans, not just the poor souls who live along the border with Mexico.

But especially, and understandably, for Latino Americans.

    ‘I Want Trump Back’

As a trip to El Paso, Texas revealed to reliably left-leaning Politico Magazine:

The growing appeal of a pro-Trump, hardline immigration mentality was even evident here, in a city where more than 80 percent of the population is Hispanic or Latino, and in a county where Biden pummeled Trump by more than 35 percentage points three years ago…

“Get the key and lock the gates,” said Rick Delgado, a Navy veteran who told me he leans Democratic and who keeps a U.S. Customs and Border Protection number in his phone.

He said he thinks Biden is “doing whatever he can.” But it was the state — not the Biden administration — that had strung razor wire on the Texas side of the Rio Grande and passed legislation that would authorize police to arrest migrants .

Compared to Biden, Delgado said, Texas’ hardline Republican governor, Greg Abbott, “is doing a better job.”

“It’s getting really bad with a lot of the people coming in,” said Simental, who was born in the Mexican state of Chihuahua and immigrated with her family when she was 12. She didn’t vote for Trump in 2016, she said. But lately, she’s thinking differently about it.

“Now,” she told me, “I want Trump back.”

These stories seem to sound quite a bit different than the usual narrative heard from the talking heads on the TV networks or in the angry ramblings of liberals online. There are some obvious reasons for that.

Latinos Also Want to Fix Broken Border

The typical assumption by many Democrats is that Latino voters would reject Trump because of his stance on enforcing the southern border.

But as it turns out, they want the border enforced too. They feel similar effects as everyone else – hits to wages, fewer available jobs, drugs in their neighborhoods, and more.

Politico went to El Paso likely looking for a narrative that was decidedly anti-Trump.

What they found seems to be an entirely different picture.

  • New Poll Shows Trump's Lead Has Widened

New Poll Shows Trump's Lead Has Widened

    Opinion

In early November, a New York Times poll showed Donald Trump leading in toss up battleground states that are crucial to Joe Biden. Another poll released last week showed Trump still outperforming Biden.

And yet another poll shows that Trump’s lead has widened even further.

    He’s On a Roll

    Fox News reports:

Former President Donald Trump keeps gaining ground in the Republican presidential nomination contest, as fewer than one third of GOP primary voters now back all his rivals combined, according to the latest Fox News survey.

Trump’s support stands at 69% in the primary race. That’s up 7 points since November and fully 26 points since February.

Ron DeSantis receives 12% support (down 1 point since November), Nikki Haley gets 9% (-1), Vivek Ramaswamy 5% (-2), Chris Christie 2% (-1), and Asa Hutchinson 1% (steady).

When asked their second choice, the top picks among Trump supporters are DeSantis 50%, Ramaswamy 20%, and Haley 14%.

In hypothetical general election matchups against President Joe Biden, Haley is ahead by 6 points, while Trump is up by 4 (neither advantage is statistically significant). DeSantis and Biden tie. As recently as August, Biden was narrowly ahead of all three of them.

The report added, “When third-party candidates are included, Trump’s edge over the president remains at 4 points, with Biden getting 37% to Trump’s 41%.  Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. gets 14%, Jill Stein 3%, and Cornel West 2%.  That’s mostly unchanged since last month.”

Trump’s Popularity Shows No Signs of Stopping

Some believe that Democrats will fall into freak out mode if Trump’s poll numbers continue to perform so well. Many seem to be pinning their hopes on the former president’s multiple indictments leading to legal trouble that could prevent Trump from going to the White House.

Time will tell on that front, but one thing time has already told us is that if Democrats thought that trying to lock up their presidential opponent was a good campaign strategy – it isn’t working.

Because the only result so far is Trump continues to grow in popularity with every new poll.

    Trump Celebrates

During a campaign stop in Coralville, Iowa last week, Trump celebrated the success of his recent polling numbers while also criticizing his fellow Republican candidates.

“We are leading by a lot, but you have to go out and vote,” Trump said, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch. “Sometimes when you’re leading by a lot, everyone says, ‘Oh, why should I go and vote?’ The margin of victory is so important — and frankly, bad things are going to be happening if you don’t.”

Trump went on to dismiss rumors of a “Haley surge,” claiming that the only person that she is “surging” against is DeSantis.

“They’re talking about the Haley surge, where she goes up 2 points, I go up, I think 10 points — under 10 points,” Trump said. “They (should) say, ‘That’s a Trump surge,’ but they don’t want to say that. … These are the most dishonest people ever in our country.”

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene’s attack on “too old” Democrat sparks backlash

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s attack on “too old” Democrat sparks backlash

Marjorie Taylor Greene came under fire on social media when she hit out at Democratic Representative Maxine Waters, after the 85-year-old criticized her for having a government Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan written off during the coronavirus pandemic.

Taylor Commercial Inc., the company Greene owned with her then-husband, received a $183,504 PPP loan write-off in April 2020, according to publicly available records. This consisted of the original $182,300 loan, plus the interest that had been accrued. PPP loans were introduced during the Donald Trump administration in 2020 to support small businesses during the pandemic, as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

After being criticized over the loan forgiveness by Waters, Greene replied in a lengthy post on X, formerly Twitter: “Maxine Waters is attacking me for taking a PPP loan (like so many had to), before I was a member of congress, when the tyrannical government shut us all down. Maxine is 85 yrs old and has held government office since 1976!!!

“She has no idea what it’s like to meet payroll and keep a business running. Maxine is everything wrong with politicians today. Too old. No real life experience. Corrupt and tyrannical. Is she going to cling to power until she dies like so many of her peers?” Greene added.

The post went viral, receiving more than 6,600 shares, 1.3 million views and garnering 8,500 comments. Newsweek has contacted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for comment by telephone and voicemail message.

However, many of the replies took issue with Greene’s stance. Several X users wrote that she would go on to oppose the Biden administration’s student-debt relief proposal, which was blocked by the Supreme Court in June.

Ryan Shead, an X user from Tucson, Arizona, with over 84,000 followers, replied: “She is attacking your hypocrisy in taking the loan and chastising the government you just allowed to save your sorry a**.

“If you were a woman of principles you wouldn’t have taken the massive loan from the tyrannical government,” Shead added. “The American people would have received zero help from you, but you took it for yourself. That’s why we criticize you.”

A second Twitter user, ChrisfromCali added: “And she voted against loan forgiveness for students. Her hypocrisy makes me so sick.”

A third wrote: “But young people struggling to pay rent and buy food can’t get $10,000 in student loan relief?”

Ron Fancy, an X user from California, commented: “She comes after frauds like you. Did she ask for a pardon? Did she plan an insurrection? She has been around for a long time b/c [because] she does an excellent job. When Kev[in McCarthy, former speaker] lost his job you lost your leverage.”

However, not all social-media users disagreed with Greene’s post. Rhonda Lynn replied: “Maxine Waters is so corrupt and vile. She is a disgrace to Congress and everyone despises her. She is one of the nastiest people I’ve ever seen.”

A second user added: “I believe that Maxine Waters, due to her age and alleged corrupt practices, is out of touch with the current political landscape. I argue that she should be removed from office ASAP [as soon as possible].”

Marjorie Taylor Greene raises a finger while speaking at a news conference on border security outside of the U.S. Capitol on November 14, 2023 in Washington, DC. The Republican came under fire on Friday after attacking Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters on X in a row over PPP loans.

During an appearance on Tucker Carson’s X show, released on Thursday, Greene named five “powerful Republicans in the House” whom she said have been undermining her in the House, and in particular her efforts to impeach prominent Biden administration figures.
