WATCH: AWOLNATION on the creation of his new album

On August 30, AWOLNATION released The Phantom Five. The album is Aaron Bruno’s followup to the collection of covers he released in 2022. It’s an eclectic mix of dreamy pop songs with a punk rock spirit.

Growing up in Southern California, Bruno was inspired by West Coast hip-hop and the area’s legendary hardcore scene. He’s successful now, but he spent more than a decade performing in different bands before creating AWOLNATION. Since then, his music has become the soundtrack for countless commercials, TV Shows, and sporting events.

Watch Bruno talk to Jordan Edwards and Demi Ramos about the making of The Phantom Five, the creation of “Sail,” and his love for surfing and the Las Vegas Raiders.

  • Chloe Chaidez, Sugar Pit, and the Wild World of PSY Sound

Chloe Chaidez, Sugar Pit, and the Wild World of PSY Sound

For many, Chloe Chaidez is the force behind beloved power pop band Kitten, known for underground hits like “G#” and “Memphis.” She’s recently focused on developing other artists through PSY Sound, a music and arts collective based in Los Angeles. It serves as her record label and production company.

PSY events are known for bizarre, high energy shows in suburban backyards, local businesses, and rehearsal spaces. From the costumed hijinks of Joy and Bob to Chaidez’s all-female Body Party, the group of misfits straddles the line between music and performance art.

One PSY artist who’s gained a strong following is Kian Stevens-Winston, who performs under the name Sugar Pit. Although he recently signed with Atlantic Records, his brand of zany energetic pop hasn’t changed. The latest Sugar Pit single, “Sex Party,” is just as unhinged as his viral hit “Customer Service.” Sugar Pit is also the cover boy for the new PSY Sound magazine.

Watch Demi Ramos talk to Chaidez and Stevens-Winston about making music together and the community they’ve built around PSY.

Carter Vail: From ‘Dirt Man’ to ‘100 Cowboys’

For the past few years, Carter Vail has built a following on social media. His little comedic songs are catchy, bizarre, and perfect for short form consumption.

An open verse challenge has spawned additional lore, and Dirt Man merchandise is selling out on his website.

But Vail makes serious music too. A graduate of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, he plays multiple instruments. His new album, 100 Cowboys, is a breakup record. The music is still bright and playful, but the lyrics focus on getting dumped.

Watch Carter Vail talk to Jordan Edwards and Demi Ramos about how he creates his bite-sized songs, the making of 100 Cowboys, and of course, his fitness routine.

WATCH: Echosmith Break Down Their New Album

Echosmith has evolved since their breakout hit “Cool Kids” a decade ago. While they still produce atmospheric, catchy pop songs, they take more risks.

Their self titled new album is their most experimental release yet. It may also be their best. One standout track, “Sucks 2 Be Us,” is built on psychedelic keyboards. “Hang Around” and “Gelato” include fuzzy guitars and booming percussion that will sound great live.

The trio has matured personally as well. The lead single, “Sour,” was inspired by a sixth-month period in which vocalist Sydney Sierota lived three time zones away from her husband. The band has smoothly transitioned into grown adults who sing about adult things.

Watch Jordan Edwards and Demi Ramos talk to Sydney and brother Noah Sierota about recording the new album, their sibling bond, and upcoming European tour.
