Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested three men and seized 45 kgs of fine quality marijuana hidden in specially designed cavity under the rear seat of a car, an official said on Saturday.

The accused were identified as Akhilesh Bhagat (29), a resident of Swaroop Nagar, Delhi, Naresh Kumar (19) and Prakash Sharma (32) both residents of district Madhubani in Bihar.

Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravindra Singh Yadav, stated that they had received information about a consignment of narcotics substances (Ganja) being supplied in the Delhi/NCR area.

Further information was gathered through field sources and technical analysis, which revealed that narcotics substances were being transported in a Maruti SX4 from Andhra Pradesh to Delhi.

“Suspected phone numbers were placed under surveillance,” said Yadav, adding that consequently, a trap was set on the service road near Bhalswa Jheel in Delhi, resulting in the interception of the car and the apprehension of three men.

Upon conducting a detailed search of the car, it was discovered that the car’s trunk was smaller than the standard size.

During the interrogation, it was disclosed that the rear seat of the car was foldable, and a concealed cavity had been specially designed under the rear seat for hiding contraband.

“After folding the rear seat, a concealed cavity was found beneath it, covered with a wooden plate fixed with screws. The wooden plate was opened, and 45 kilograms of high-quality Ganja were…

  • Delhi Police asks Uber to verify drivers before onboarding them, check alcohol level before ride

Delhi Police asks Uber to verify drivers before onboarding them, check alcohol level before ride

    [ad_1]

The Delhi Police on Tuesday asked ride hailing firm Uber to verify past records of drivers before onboarding them and suggested that the company put a mechanism in the cab to check their alcohol consumption levels.

While speaking at the safety feature launch event of Uber, Delhi Police additional commissioner Mahesh Chandra Bharadwaj said that drunken driving has been a major factor in case of rule violations.

“If a driver is drunk then you should have some kind of mechanism to know that your driver is drunk. We test drunk and drive through the alcohol meter. Can Uber fix something closer to steering so that if a driver is drunk you get the notification. Please find a mechanism to test drunk drivers,” Bharadwaj said.

He asked Uber to verify the past record of drivers before onboarding them.

“Uber should try to put a system in place to get notified about traffic rule violations by their driver partner, which in turn can be shared with Delhi Traffic Police,” Bhardwaj said.

Uber India and South Asia head of safety operations Sooraj Nair said that the company has noted the feedback and will carry on study to check feasibility of features into the system.

On the occasion, Uber announced expanded support to users to call their helpline even after 30 minutes of ending their trips.

Uber director Customer Experience for India and South Asia Manasi Chadha said that the extended timeline has been launched in India only.

He said that the company has completed an SOS feature to send alerts during emergencies, which has been integrated with Hyderabad Police and gone live in the city.

“We are in talks with the police department of other states to integrate SOS features. Every state police department has a different technology architecture. We are working with them to integrate our SOS feature with their system,” Nair said.

Uber has also started audio rear seat belt reminders for riders on the driver’s phone along with a push notification on the rider’s phone.

The government has made it mandatory to wear a rear seat belt after the tragic death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry in September.

“We are the first one to go live with this feature,” Nair said.

Shraddha murder case: As grim details keep emerging in the Mehrauli murder case, a letter by the victim, Shraddha Walkar, which she wrote to the Tulinj police station in Mumbai on November 23, 2020, has resurfaced. She stated in this letter that Aftab Poonawala used to scare her and blackmail her. He had also threatened her that he would kill her, cut her body in pieces and throw it away.

She stated in the letter that he has been hitting her since as long as six months but she does not have the courage to approach the police. The letter accessed by the news agency ANI further mentioned that Poonawala’s parents were aware of the physical abuse and the fact that he tried to kill Walkar.

She said, “I lived with him till date as we were supposed to get married anytime soon and had the blessings of his family. Henceforth, I am not willing to live with him so any kind of physical damage should be considered coming from him as he has been blackmailing me to kill me or hurt me whenever he sees me anywhere.”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said that there would be an investigation into why the Maharashtra police took no action on Shraddha’s letter in 2020. He added maybe Walkar’s life could have been saved if authorities took action in a timebound manner.

DCP Suhas Bavache of the Mira Bhayandar- Vasai Virar (MBVV) Commissionerate said that Shraddha stated in her written statement that the issues between herself and Poonawala were resolved.

Bavache mentioned, “Whatever necessary action had to be taken in that matter was done by the police at that time. The application that was given by the complainant was also investigated. After the investigation, the complainant herself gave a written statement that there is no dispute. Her friend’s parents also cajoled her to resolve the dispute. She gave the written statement and after that the case was closed.”

Aaftab has been accused of strangling and killing Shraddha Walkar on May 18 this year. He also put the chopped body parts in a 300-litre fridge before disposing of them. Both of them met on a dating app and moved into rented accommodation in Chhatarpur.

Shraddha Walkar murder case: Aaftab Poonawalla moved belongings in 37 boxes to Delhi, paid Rs 20,000

Accused in the brutal Shraddha Walkar murder case Aaftab Poonawalla moved belongings in 37 boxes from his flat at White Halls Society in Evershine City in Vasai district to his residence in Delhi’s Chhatarpur area and paid Rs 20,000 for it, according to a Delhi Police official. Poonawalla told Delhi Police that he and Walkar fought about who would pay for shifting the items from their house in Palghar.

The officials are yet to trace the details of the account used to pay Rs 20,000 for transporting furniture and other household items through Goodluck Packers and Movers company in June. This matter came to light when a Delhi Police team recorded the statement of an employee of the packaging company in the Palghar district.

Delhi Police also recorded the statement of the owner of the house where Walkar and Poonawalla stayed in 2021 and the owner of the flat in Mumbai’s Mira Road area where the accused’s family was staying. Officials have also recorded the statements of four people in Palghar including two men who helped Walkar after Poonawalla assaulted her in 2020, news agency PTI reported.

Abdullah Khan, the secretary of the Unique Park Housing Society, where the accused Aaftab Amin Poonawalla lived with his family, told the police in his statement that Aaftab’s family vacated the house around 20 days ago and the place has been rented out.

The accused lived with Shraddha in three apartments including Kenny Apartment, Regal Apartment, and White Hills Apartment across Mumbai. Delhi Police will also question the staff of the five-star hotel where Poonawalla worked as a trainee chef. While two officers will question the staff about Aaftab, one officer will carry on the probe in Palghar.

The case came to light when Shraddha’s father Vikas Walkar filed a complaint with the Delhi Police on November 10. During the interrogation, it was revealed that Aaftab killed Shraddha on May 18 and later chopped her body into 35 pieces and put them in a fridge before dumping them in the Mehrauli forest area.

Delhi murder case: CCTV footage shows Aaftab possibly disposing mortal remains of Shraddha Walkar

    [ad_1]

In a major development in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, Delhi Police in its latest claim has said that the sleuths have got hold of a CCTV footage of October 18 in which Aaftab Ameen Poonawala can be seen carrying a bag, which they suspect had Shraddha’s mortal remains.
Cops have told India Today TV that perhaps Aaftab was going to dump some of the cut body parts, which were stored in the refrigerator, in the nearby Mehrauli jungle.
Shraddha Walkar, 26, was allegedly strangled and then chopped into 35 pieces by her boyfriend and partner Aaftab in the month of May. Delhi Police have been conducting several search operations in the Mehrauli forest area to look for key evidence in the case.
In the new surfaced CCTV footage, Aaftab can be seen making three rounds, and police suspect that he might have gone out with the bag to dispose of the body parts.

On Saturday, Delhi police also recovered heavy and sharp cutting tools from Aaftab’s flat, which they suspect might have been used for the crime. Investigating officers have said that Aaftab himself told the police where the weapon was kept and helped them recover the vital evidence from his Chhatarpur flat. Recovery of the weapon will be crucial in further investigation of the case.
On Friday, a Delhi Police team visited the office of a private firm in Gurugram where Aaftab used to work. After carrying out a search, the police officers were seen carrying black-coloured plastic bags with some items or suspected evidence they found in the backyard of the office.
Aaftab has told the police that he disposed of Shraddha’s bloodstained clothes in the civic garbage van after dismembering her body.
Several body parts have been found in the forests in Mehrauli in the last few days. Cops said that they are looking for her severed head. The police have recovered ten bags of body parts so far.
The Delhi Police have also sent teams to Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to look for possible evidence in the murder case. Cops said Aaftab and Shraddha went on several trips and they are trying to look into minute clues or pieces of evidence there.
