Michael Jackson’s kids Prince and Paris Jackson are remembering their Uncle Tito.

“Rest in transition, Uncle Tito ❤️,” Paris, 26, wrote over a photo of Tito and her late father shared via her Instagram Story on Monday, September 16.

Prince, 27, meanwhile, shared a recent family photo of the Jackson clan via his Instagram on Monday, alongside the caption: “Love you forever Poppa T❤️.” The photo features Prince with his relatives including Tito, grandmother Katherine Jackson, aunt La Toya Jackson, and several of his uncles and cousins.

“He always spoke so highly about you Prince and was so proud of the man you have become and your love for family,” Tito’s son, TJ, commented under the post. “Thank you for being such a great nephew to him. ❤️”

TJ, 46, had custody of Prince, Paris and their younger brother, Bigi, following Michael’s death in 2009. He was made their co-guardian, along with their grandmother Katherine, in 2012. In 2019, TJ said he had sole custody of his late uncle’s children. (Prince, Paris and Bigi are now all legal adults.)

TJ and his brothers Taj, 51, and Taryll, 49, who are better known as the pop group 3T, announced their father’s death on Monday, September 16, via Instagram.

Tito died Sunday, September 15, after police responded to a medical emergency near a mall in Gallup, New Mexico. “The individual was subsequently transported to a local hospital in Gallup, New Mexico, where he was pronounced dead,” the Gallup Police Department said in a statement Monday. “Following this, the hospital requested the presence of detectives and the Office of the Medical Investigator. The deceased has been identified as 70-year-old Toriano ‘Tito’ Jackson from Tulsa, Oklahoma.”

“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us,” Taj, Taryll and TJ wrote alongside a series of photos spanning their father’s life on Monday. “We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.”

“Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as ‘Coach Tito’ or some know him as ‘Poppa T.’ Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously. It will forever be ‘Tito Time’ for us,” the trio continued. “Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is ‘Love One Another.’ We love you Pops.”

TJ took to his Instagram late Monday night to share a personal tribute to his father, writing, “Words can’t express how much I already miss my father. It doesn’t feel real. Rebecca Cheptegei’s former partner has died from injuries sustained in the attack that killed the Ugandan Olympic athlete.

Dickson Ndiema was pronounced dead on Monday, September 9, at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya, according to a statement from the hospital obtained by The New York Times. The statement noted that he had developed respiratory failure after sustaining severe airway burns. Ndiema was 32.

Cheptegei died last week at age 33, days after Ndiema, her ex-boyfriend, allegedly doused her in gasoline and set her on fire. The athlete was taken to the hospital on September 1 following a disagreement with Ndiema at her home in Kenya.

Following the attack, Cheptegei was left with burns on 75 percent of her body and was in critical condition. She died three days later on September 4 after experiencing organ failure.

Ndiema, meanwhile, received burns on about 40 percent of his body and had been receiving treatment at the same hospital as Cheptegei. Police had planned to charge him with murder if he recovered from his burns.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our athlete, Rebecca Cheptegei early this morning who tragically fell victim to domestic violence,” Uganda’s athletics federation shared via X on Thursday, September 5. “As a federation, we condemn such acts and call for justice. May her soul rest in peace.”

Donald Rukare, the president of Uganda’s Olympic committee, also shared his condolences for Cheptegei, who finished 44th in the marathon at the Paris Olympics earlier this summer.

“We have learnt of the sad passing on of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei OLY following a vicious attack by her boyfriend,” Rukare wrote via X on Thursday. “May her gentle soul rest in peace and we strongly condemn violence against women. This was a cowardly and senseless act that has led to the loss of a great athlete. Her legacy will continue to endure.”

Dr. Owen Menach, acting director of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where Cheptegei was admitted, told local media that Cheptegei died after all her organs failed on Wednesday, September 4, per the BBC and Sky News.

Donald Rukare, the president of Uganda’s Olympic committee, wrote via X on Thursday, “We have learnt of the sad passing on of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei OLY following a vicious attack by her boyfriend.”

Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom previously said that Ndiema “bought a jerrican of petrol, poured it on her and set her ablaze during a disagreement” that took place on Sunday, per the AP.

“The couple were heard quarreling outside their house,” Kosiom said, according to the BBC, who referred to Ndiema as Cheptegei’s “former” boyfriend in their report. “During the altercation, the boyfriend was seen pouring a liquid on the woman before burning her.”

The AP reported that Ndiema received burns during the incident as well and both were taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, in Eldoret, a city in Kenya.

Cheptegei competed as a long-distance and marathon runner for Uganda in the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing in 44th place.

The AP reported that she and Ndemia had argued over land that her house was built on. Cheptegei’s parents said the athlete bought land and moved to Trans Nzoia in order to continue her training.

After the incident, police commander Kosiom spoke with The Standard, revealing that neighbors put out the fire before rushing Cheptegei and Ndiema to the hospital. A “five-liter yellow jerrican, a bag and a black marvin” and “burnt mobile phone” were reportedly collected at the scene for “forensic analysis,” Kosiom continued.

Prior to Cheptegei’s appearance in this year’s Paris Olympics, she competed in various marathons. She ended 2022 with a fourth-place finish in the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, which allowed her to secure her spot at the Olympics. Shannen Doherty’s doctor and close friend is commending the actress for being a fighter up until the very end of her life.

“Things turned much more difficult in the last couple of weeks, and that’s when it became clear that it was heading in a different direction,” oncologist Dr. Lawrence D. Piro said in an interview with People published on Monday, July 15. “We continued to fight while putting in more support and we just kept loving and hoping and supporting.”

Piro helped care for Doherty when she first received her breast cancer diagnosis in 2015. While she went into remission in 2017, Doherty’s cancer returned in 2019 and she was later diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 cancer.

On Saturday, July 13, Piro was with Doherty when she died at the age of 53 following a long health battle.

Prior to her July 2024 death, Shannen Doherty made a name for herself in film and television. The actress, born in Memphis in April 1971, started her career as a child star on Little House on the Prairie and went on to appear in the dark comedic film Heathers. Doherty’s fame continued to grow after […]

During their long friendship, Piro enjoyed experiencing vibrant dinner parties with the Charmed actress at her home. “She was an incredible, incredible chef,” the medical expert and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center doctor recalled. “It was very strange being in her home with her in a bed and not in the kitchen bringing out pizzas and cooking pasta. She loved cooking. She loved giving parties. She loved entertaining.”

According to Piro, what kept Doherty going “was a love for life and a desire to have more life. That was incredibly painful for her not to be able to do that.”

While many will remember Doherty for her various roles on the big and small screen — including Prue Halliwell on Charmed and Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210 — Piro believes his friend’s legacy will be one of treating others with kindness.

“This tremendous love for life was inspired by a love for people and a love for being treated well,” he said. “And I think that that grew out of being in the public eye from a very young age and feeling misunderstood most of her life. She would want us to live our lives as strongly as we can, committed to our convictions and to not allow others to label you or to misrepresent you and stop you from living your best life.”

  • Heartbreaking way Jonnie Irwin’s kids were told he’d died and why they didn’t have a final kiss and cuddle with their dad

Heartbreaking way Jonnie Irwin’s kids were told he’d died and why they didn’t have a final kiss and cuddle with their dad

    [ad_1]

The devastated children of Jonnie Irwin weren’t “blissfully unaware” their dad was dying but didn’t have tearful final kisses and cuddles with the doting A Place in the Sun star, his wife has shared.

Jess, who shared sons Rex, five, and four-year-old twins Cormac and Rafa with Jonnie, has also revealed the moment she told the little boys their dad had died and “gone to heaven”.

Why Jonnie Irwin didn’t tell his children he was dying

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Jess said she and Jonnie took the decision not to destroy their sons’ happiness by telling them outright that he was dying.

She said that Jonnie reasoned: “If you’ve only got a short time left why spend it in mourning and confusion?”

However, they knew that Jonnie was unwell, even if the word death wasn’t mentioned.

“The boys weren’t blissfully unaware. They heard me say hundreds of times: ‘Daddy’s sleeping’. They knew he’d lost his hair because he was having treatment and that no, he couldn’t go down the big slide because it might hurt him. But we didn’t want to put scary thoughts in the boys’ little heads,” she shared.

Instead, Jess revealed they’d come home from school and nursery and she’s send them upstairs to show Jonnie.

However, she said one day eldest son Rex “just wandered in and kissed Jonnie’s hand while he was sleeping”. She added the she thinks Rex had “sensed the energy had shifted a bit”.

And, she said, Rex doing that “of his own accord” would’ve meant more to the TV star than “forcing all the boys to cuddle him”. She said if that would have happened her husband “would have sobbed and it would have been a terrible memory”.

Jonnie died in February (Credit: ITV)

How Jess told the boys he was gone

Turning to the moment that she told the boys about Jonnie’s passing, Jess said she approached it with Rex first. Then she told her younger twins.

“I told Rex first, that Daddy had gone to heaven, in the sky, and he ran out of the room and hid. He said: ‘Why can’t the spaceman bring Daddy back?’ Then I told the twins. They asked: ‘How did the angels carry him up to the sky?’ I said: ‘Angels have special powers.’ It was all toddler talk. The conversation will change as they get older.”

Rex has now told Jess that he can speak to his dad, but only at night, through a special pair of sunglasses. He told her he can use them to “see into space” and, if he presses a button, he can “see Daddy and this one lets me hear him talk”.

(NewsNation) — Alcohol deaths increased steadily over the past decade, with sharp rises during the pandemic years, according to a report published last week.

Overall, the national alcohol death rate has risen 70% in the past decade, accounting for 51,191 deaths in 2022, up from 27,762 deaths in 2012, the KFF analysis found.

Over the past decade, alcohol death rates grew the fastest among people aged 26 to 44, American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) people and women, according to the report.

In 2022, alcohol deaths were the highest among people aged 45 to 64, men, people living in rural areas and AIAN people. The report revealed that alcohol death rates are five times higher for AIAN people than white people, which is the racial group with the next highest prevalence.

The report revealed that across all age groups, people aged 45 to 64 have the highest alcohol death rate, followed by 65 and older.

Meanwhile, deaths are rising fastest among adults aged 26 to 44, AIAN people and women. These groups experienced nearly or more than a 100% rise in alcohol mortality rates in the last decade, according to the report.

Adults aged 26 to 44 experienced a rise of 144% in alcohol death rate over the past decade and over 50% during the pandemic. During the pandemic, alcohol death rates increased by almost 25 deaths per 100,000 AIAN people.

Death rates in men are more than double that of women, while people who reside in rural areas have death rates higher than those who live in urban areas.

Golfer Harry Higgs paid tribute to the late Grayson Murray with an emotional call to arms.

After Higgs, 32, became the first player in history to win back-to-back Korn Ferry Tour tournaments in a playoff, he used his winner’s speech to discuss Murray, who died by suicide at the age of 30 on Saturday, May 25.

“I just have a message, so forgive me if things get a little deep,” Higgs told the assembled crowd at Knoxville, Tennessee’s Holston Hills Country Club on Sunday, May 26.

Higgs called Murray, who had been candid about his struggles with mental health, “somebody who went through a lot of difficult things, somebody that was open and honest about it.”

Higgs said that, while he was thankful for his success on the links, “It’s just not that meaningful.”

“I would challenge everybody here and I’m going to do this myself, as well each day, say something nice to someone you love,” Higgs urged. “And also make it a point to say something nice to somebody you do not even know.”

The crowd, who until that point had been watching enraptured, began to clap.

“The world is difficult and only getting more difficult,” Higgs said. “I’ve been blessed with great parents and a great support system and I haven’t had, other than some frustrations at times, any battles mentally. But Lord knows how many people do and it’s only ever increasing.”

He continued, “Everybody here could be a difference. The difference. Brighten up somebody’s day. It could mean the world.”

After Murray’s passing, his parents Eric and Terry Murray, released a statement via the PGA.

Orange County Adopts CDC Initiative to Reduce Fatal & Nonfatal Overdoses

    [ad_1]

In order to address the increasing number of overdose deaths related to prescription opioids and illicit drugs, Orange County has engaged with the Centers for Disease Control and recently was awarded a grant funded by the CDC to implement its Stop Overdose campaigns locally.

The series of campaigns focuses on four key areas: the dangers of illicitly manufactured fentanyl, the risks and consequences of mixing drugs (polysubstance use), the lifesaving power of naloxone, and the importance of reducing stigma around recovery and treatment options. The messaging highlights drug-use trends and encourages harm-reduction practices.

“We worked with CDC staff to determine the best messages for our community, and they helped us identify our priorities,” explained Dr. Thomas Hall, director, Orange County Drug-Free Coalition. “The campaigns are based on best-practice marketing strategies, and the messages are simple and direct. Each message has an action associated with the information presented.”

The connecting feature of the campaigns is the Stop Overdose website, which was launched as a resource library for people who use drugs and their loved ones. Each subpage on the website features campaign messaging, support data and resources for the intended audience – those who use drugs between the ages of 18-34.

“There’s a big stigma attached to addiction, so we need to get specific messages out to people who use illicit drugs, including that the community offers access to free medicine that reverses opioid overdoses and free treatment,” asserted Megan Giddens, senior program manager, Orange County Drug-Free Office. “This campaign really helps get these messages to its intended audience.”

Three hundred people die of a drug overdose every day in this country, and the availability of illicit fentanyl significantly increases the likelihood of opioid overdoses and overdose deaths. In our community and across the nation, deaths related to mixing fentanyl with other drugs, such as cocaine and methamphetamines, are most prominent.

For more about local strategies, programs and resources, visit Orange County Responds.

“The Drug Enforcement Administration reported 7 out of every 10 pills seized by the agency contain a lethal dose of fentanyl, yet drug users may not know the risk of fentanyl being present,” said Dr. Hall. “Raising awareness of these risks is a priority for Orange County, and the Drug-Free Coalition is committed to expanding harm reduction strategies to reduce drug-related deaths in our community.”

Giddens agreed the priority is saving lives. “We have high overdose rates in this region, so Stop Overdose is a critical education piece,” she said. “We want to be proactive, and this represents an effective preventive measure.”
